Moto Maxx - Moto Turbo XT1225 factory images (Mexico | Puerto Rico | India | Brazil) - Moto Maxx General

NOTE: the MediaFire mirror links seem to work better than the OneDrive links. Also have some Google Drive links.
________________
New Brazil Moto Maxx 5.0.2 factory image at bottom of post next to the India Moto Turbo 5.0.2 -- with MediaFire and Google Drive links. Scroll down!
The downloads in this post are divided into two sections:
1) TWRP BACKUPS which I made in various stages, such as
stock, unrooted
stock + rooted
stock + rooted + permanent TWRP
You need TWRP to flash these. You can use a temporary installation of TWRP (one time, one off) if you do not wish to permanently install TWRP. Instruction in the post below
2) Straight Factory Images which you need RSD Lite to flash
These are
Puerto Rico 4.4.4
India 5.0.2
Brazil 5.0.2
They are under the "Non-TWRP" heading towards the bottom of the post.
For these, you will need RSDLite 6.2.4, found here:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/wnxtofd1hwxvokj/RSDLite 6.2.4 (1).zip?dl=0
OR you can unzip the image and use @Jaocagomez excellent instructions in this thread to flash all sections of the image using mfastboot.

Rooting does NOT affect the ability to recieve OTA updates (like 5.0 Lollipop). Rooting just lets you removed apps you don't like, make changes, run apps like Titanium Backup, Root Browser, Xposed framework, Gravity Box, etc.
(On my daily phone, I'm running 4.4.4 from factory, but rooted and I have Gravity Box with lots of custom ROM features and I'm even running a Lollipop theme using Xthemes, which is an Xposed app. Can't do that without root.)

Having permanent TWRP lets you boot to recovery using the power menu (like in Gravity Box). You can easily flash zipped apps, make backups, restore backups, fix permissions, etc. Having custom recoery like TWRP does prevent OTA updates. But right now until we get some custom Lollipop ROMs for our Moto Maxx, I'm not giving up all the Gravity Box featues I have with Xposed in 4.4.4.

My first Moto Maxx is from Puerto Rico. Although sold by Claro, this image is unlocked and has ONLY Motorola software just like the Mexican Moto Maxx. So, there's nothing "retail" about it, it's factory. (The Moto Maxx sold by Claro has no bloatware). Hi
Sorry for asking such noob question, how can i install root image?
Click to collapse
Going to list the steps. If you have already done some of them, skip to the next.
1) Turn on phone and connect phone to computer via USB cable.
2) Download the factory recovery image you want from my links onto your phone, or drag the image over to your phone storage from computer.
3) Download and install ADB to your computer.
4) Unlock your bootloader. Get code from Motorola. Google unlock Motorola bootloader and click on link for the Motorola website. Follow the directions.
5) Download TWRP recovery from the OP post of this thread and extract files, preferably to your "platform-tools folder" where you installed ADB on your computer.
(In the screenshot below, I re-named TWRP to be "recovery.img" -- not to be confused with the factory recovery image made from TWRP that you are trying to flash. The recovery.img in the folder below is TWRP. I should have named it that. Sorry for any confusion.)
In that "platform-tools" folder, then hit "shift" key on your keyboard, right click in open space and choose "open command window here".
6) Follow instructions from the op post to use command window (via ADB) to boot phone to the bootloader, and then use the command window (via ADB) to flash the "one time" TWRP recovery boot file.
This will not install TWRP recovery permanently. (You can do that later if you wish.) But you need to at least boot into "temporary" TWRP recovery to install any of the images.
7) In TWRP, then choose "restore" and browse to the TWRP recovery image you put on the phone from step #2. Choose that, and restore.
8) Reboot phone.

This is the stock Lollipop 5.0.2 image that was released with the Moto Turbo XT1225, which is the same Quark device as the Moto Maxx XT1225. Just re-named for another market...
This is the firmware PUBLICLY released by Motorola on the Moto Turbo phones, bought by customers. It is NOT the subject of any confidential non-disclosure agreement. It is NOT any kind of soak test, beta test, whatever. It is FINAL factory software, shipped with the Moto Turbo XT1225.
This is my Moto Maxx XT1225 converted to India Moto Turbo XT1225 , flashing this image.
The advantage is Motorola lists all the current specs, including enabled bands for the Moto Turbo XT1225. Although the Moto Maxx XT1225 has the exact same bands (LTE and HSPA), on the Latin American Moto Maxx websites, Motorola does not admit all those bands are enabled, even though they are (like AT&T LTE band 5 and T-mobile HSPA band 4). By flashing the Moto Turbo Lollipop image, you can prove to other people you do indeed have all those bands, because it's on the Motorola Moto Turbo specs page.

You must unzip the folder, next you dirijes to TWRP / BACKUPS / and inside there is another folder that you generated the Recovery TWRP to make a backup or in case you think I have one named ZX1F32266F (I do not know if the same name on other devices), in this place it's already decompressed Zip folder and there you have it to detect :good:

Thnxs! i figured out as you was helping me, i did a backup, delete everything in the folder and replace it with your zip file. Thank you very much!

Are the Puerto Rico & Mexican images interchangeable? Can I use Mexican firmware on a Puerto Rican Moto Maxx (and visa versa)?
If I don't want to flash TWRP permanently just to restore the factory images, can I just do a simple fastboot boot twrp.img to restore from these backups?
Thanks!

Yes, you can just do temporary TWRP to restore.

Actually "fastboot boot" is restricted even on unlocked Droid Ultra / Moto X. Did they finally change it here?

Yeah bro... They did! Some people "claim" that the Turbo or the Moto Maxx was meant to be the Nexus 6 which I doubt.. But I went ahead and dared to flash the Nexus 6 images which did flash but never booted... So guess there is some amount of similarity in them!
U have a Moto Maxx now? Can we expect some development?

Well you doubt wrongly. As late as mid-August, Motorola/Google was testing a 5.2" version of "Shamu" to either be THE Nexus 6 -- or Google was considering pulling an Apple and releasing TWO Nexus 6 smartphones.
http://www.idigitaltimes.com/nexus-...-reveals-52-inch-1440p-display-and-snapdragon
Nexus 6 Specs Confirmed: Benchmark Leak For Motorola 'Shamu' Reveals 5.2-inch 1440p Display and Snapdragon 805
The existence of a Nexus 6 benchmark, which has confirmed leaked specs shows that the early rumors weren't entirely correct. A Motorola "Shamu" exists, but it won't be a massive phablet. Rather it will be a 5.2-inch 2560 x 1440 QHD device, powered by a quad-core Snapdragon 805 processor clocked at 2.6GHz with an Adreno 420 GPU, 3GB of RAM, a 12-megapixel rear camera with 4K UHD video recording capabilities and a 2-megapixel front facing camera. It will launch with Android L.

Well, Google did indeed choose the massive 5.96" version over the 5.2" version -- but they were TESTING the smaller version for several months. However, after mid-August, all evidence of a 5.2" Nexus 6 variant disappeared and only the 5.96" remained.
I think that was a mistake. To me, a 5.2" Nexus 6 phone would have been killer.
5.2" Moto Maxx vs massive 5.96" Nexus 6
Motorola obviously re-purposed the 5.2" "Shamu" variant as the Droid Turbo/Moto Maxx, and changed the camera. A lot of the hardware specs remains the same as the Nexus 6. But that doesn't mean you can flash a Nexus 6 image on it.
Same manufacturer (Motorola),
same CPU/GPU (Snapdragon 805),
same RAM (3GB),
same resolution (1440p),
same "turbo" charger
same Qi wireless charging.
Same 64GB internal storage as the 64GB version of the Nexus 6.
And then Motorola announced a 5.2" 1440p, Snapdragon 805, 3GB RAM phone -- codenamed Quark -- to be released in U.S. as Droid Turbo (XT1254) and "internationally" as Moto Maxx (XT1225).
In another example, Motorola has also re-purposed the actual Nexus 6 as the Moto X Pro for China. Probably can't flash a NEXUS 6 image on it, either -- even though it's identical hardware.
"Moto X Pro" -- for China. 5.96" identical hardware version of the Nexus 6.

ChazzMatt said:

Motorola repurposed it as the Droid Turbo/Moto Maxx. But that doesn't mean you can Nexus 6 image on it.
Besides the leaked benchmarks, there's the Qi wireless charging, which the recent NEXUS smartphones have, but is very unusual for a Motorola branded phone.

Well... If you think about it... Nexus devices ditched the capacitive buttons long back... That's point 1 that this wasnt meant to be a Nexus... And the Motorola Droid Maxx had wireless charging... And since Motorola decided to ditch the ultra and mini series so probably they decided to put in the best! I tried flashing cuz almost all the specs are the same so expected it to boot with a few things broken but it didn't, cuz if u know the Moto X 2013 Roms boot on the Droid 2013 series just fine! And as I said I flashed the leaked shamu boot loader and it worked fine... Though I don't recommend anyone doing it!

Yeah I figured that too but all the .mk files .sh files and their contents, syntax and language is alien to me!
Got an exam on Jan 16th will continue working after that... One more question is now for cm12 do I use the prebuilt kernel from KitKat or have to make modifications for the nexus 6 kernel? And u think there is a possibility to get Nexus 6 stock Roms working with some kernel tweaks? I mean Nexus 4 and Lg G pro had similar hardware so Roms just needed small modifications to work... If so what do u think I need to look at?

Maybe this will help http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2113479

For those who said the links didn't work, I see some people have been able to download (I can see the stats from my OneDrive account).
Perhaps if you are signed into YOUR OneDrive account, it downloads better?
When I click on the link in Google Chrome (signed into OneDrive account) and choose download, it takes several minutes, but it eventually starts downloading.
When I click on the link in Firefox (not signed in) and choose download, after a couple of minutes it offers choices to "save to drive". (I'm not signed in to my account and it still downloads)
When I click on the link in Microsoft Explorer (not signed in), it never downloads.
Having said that, here's a mirror link to MediaFire for the Moto-Maxx-XT1225-rooted-PR-TWRP image. Over the next few days, I'll try to upload the other images also to MediaFire for mirror links.

There are no improvements in these images, unless for some reason your Brazilian retail has a different (worse) radio/modem than Puerto Rico or Mexico Moto Maxx? Or something else different?
These Mexican and Puerto Rico Moto Maxx images are for people who accidentally mess up their phones and want to start over. Some people didn't make backups before installing stuff that cause bootloops.
I currently own two Moto Maxx phones -- one from Puerto Rico, one from Mexico.
This one image is just stock Puerto Rico Moto Maxx image, which is unlocked for any carrier, rooted, and has TWRP installed.
In the first post (Op), I also have Mexican Moto Maxx images, straight from the factory:
pure stock,
pure stock + rooted,
pure stock + rooted + TWRP.
This Puerto Rico image is technically "retail", phone was sold by Claro store -- but was unlocked by the eBay seller who shipped it to me. It has no Claro software on it, only Moto software from the factory. Examining the two phones, I see no difference in software apps that came with the phone.
However, the Mexico Moto Maxx was shipped straight from Motorola factory in China, so it is "pure" factory

[INFO/TIP] Web sites for official and LEAKED roms..

This post/thread is to summarize where to find full SBF files, leaks, etc for the Moto X (2013 or First Generation).
REMEMBER... Always flash the same ROM/SBF or Newer to your phone. NEVER attempt to downgrade your rom!!! for more info, see DOWNGRADING
Motorola posts their complete STOCK "Recovery Images" (aka SBF files) for the GSM and Verizon Developer Edition X at -> https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/standalone/bootloader/recovery-images
If you have the Retail and/or Moto Maker XT1053 (aka Unlocked ships with T-Mobile SIM, or Unlocked Ships with Net10 SIM), you can also use the GSM Developer Edition (XT1053) roms from Moto's site.
If you have the Retail and/or Moto Maker Verizon X (XT1060), you can also use the Verizon Developer Edition (XT1060) roms from Moto's site.
There might be a delay in Moto making an SBF available.
For other models of X, I know of 3 sites for "leaks" which contain the SBF files for nearly every model of X (2013). You may need to check EACH site to find the particular rom you are looking for. NOTE: None of the following sites are owned, operated, or sponsored by Motorola. They may be down or offline at any time, without warning.
http://sbf.droid-developers.org/ <- DEAD when checking on 8/22/15
http://www.filefactory.com/folder/dd05c058d3ff8dbe/?sort=created&order=DESC&show=100&page=1 <- seems to have the most 4.4.4 roms
http://motofirmware.com/files/category/9-ghost/ <- DEAD when checking on 8/22/15 once there, look under the GHOST folder. (as of 11/9/2014, its format and access has changed)
http://motofirmware.center/files/ <- Select Moto X 1St Generation from the list along the right side of the page
Are there any others?

As 5.1 SBF files become available, they are being collected and curated in this thread -> [OFFICIAL] Collection Full Firmwares (FXZ/SBF) Lollipop 5.1
FAQ:
1. How do I know which file to download?
- If you are NOT running a 3rd Party or Custom ROM... take a look on your phone, under App Drawer -> Settings... Make note of what is listed under System Version, Android Version, and build number. Then visit one (or all) of the sites until you find the SBF that matches. The file name will usually contain parts or all of that info listed under settings, and possibly the carrier name, or acronym for the carrier name (Verizon might be VZW, Rogers Canada might be RCI, etc).
Normally I would suggest BEFORE you flash away from Stock, on the phone you first go App Drawer -> Settings -> About Phone... Make note of what is listed under System Version, Android Version, and build number. Then visit one (or all) of the sites until that host the leaked SBF files until you find the SBF that matches and down load the file to your PC for use later.. The file name will usually contain parts or all of that info listed under settings, and possibly the carrier name, or acronym for the carrier name (Verizon might be VZW, Rogers Canada might be RCI, etc).
So for example: If your phone model is XT1058 and under about phone it reports...
android version is 4.4.4
system version is 212.44.26. ghost_row.RCI.en.ca
build nunber is KXA21.12-L1.26
That tells me you have a Rogers Canada (RCI) XT1058 with 4.4.4 ROM on it. When you look at the file factory site for your SBF, you want to look for a file that contains some/all of that info, like... XT1058_RCI-CA_4.4.4_KXA21.12-L1.26_59_cid14_CFC_1FF.xml.zip
(notice the parts of the "about phone" info and file name which are highlighted in Bold to help illustrate the example)
IF you are already running a CUSTOM or 3Rd party rom, like CM, system version and build number will not match STOCK Moto SBF files
2. Where do all these SBF files come from?
As mentioned earlier, Moto does make the Dev Edition "recovery images" (in SBF format) available on their web site. For all others, the only way for us to get firmware files, is for a copy to be LEAKED to us.. The "Leaked" firmwares are files that are basically "stolen" by a Motorola or wireless carrier employee, who then posts the file on the internet for us... So we can't always count on this ever happening, nor can we have any expectations that a particular firmware will actually get leaked, or when it will be leaked.
There is some talk about using Motorla Device Manager (MDM) app to upgrade your phone, and how during the update process, the app downloads the full FXZ (another term for SBF) to your PC, so it could be copied/saved to another folder for use later. I have not done this with MDM.
EDIT: As of 12/12/14, Only the filefactory.com link is working. The others appear to be down. I don't know the owners of the sites, so I can't say if they will return or not.
EDIT2: As of 1/2/15, motofirmware.com seems to be back up, but sbf.droid-developers.org appears to be gone.
Great info! ??
SBF is my first choice, but when I needed the 4.4.4 retail firmware not found it in SBF, I had to turn to Google and found it.
FTP of Moto Firmware is empty, but the File Factory folder has many versions! Very cool.
if my firmware is currently 4.2.2, can I download the 4.4.2 or 4.4.4 firmware and it would fix a soft brick with 4.2.2? or must i find the 4.2.2 firmware in order to fix the issues?

I'm not sure what problem you encountered is.. If it is truely "soft bricked" first start by booting the phone to APFastboot/Booloader screen and use fastboot or mFastboot on the PC to erase the phone's cache then try to reboot.
If that doesn't work, generally to recover from any issues, if you can boot into APFasboot/Booloader, check the version on the second line, then download and flash the appropriate ROM version, you can recovery from most soft brick scenarios.
30.70 = original 4.2.2
30.71 = 4.2.2 OTA with camera update
30.B2 = 4.4
30.B4 = 4.4.2
30.B7 = 4.4.4
Once on 4.4.2, 4.4.3 or 4.4.4, NEVER flash an older version ROM!!!
On occasion, you need to use mfastboot, and do a few extra commands (See Option 5 at -> http://mark.cdmaforums.com/MotoX-ReturnToStock.html )
If you have any questions, please search and see if any threads with your phone's symptoms already exist then post in that thread. If a thread doesn't already exist, start a new one, and post any details of what phone you have (model, carrier), what the symptom is, and what was done leading up to the symptom appearing. The more details you can supply the better.

well issue was I was rooted with twrp and silly me I tried to do the ota update. so now it won't get past the warning about unlocked bootloader. I read after the fact that you needed to revert back to stock before taking ota. mine is 30.71, but the other issue is I cannot find that firmware anywhere. my only option in regards to firmware is to use 4.4.2 that I found. I've posted the question here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2542219&page=123

BUT if you tried to take the OTA while TWRP was on your phone, just boot into fastboot mode on the phone, and do a mfastboot erase cache will get you out of the bootloop. Then you can flash stock recovery on there, take the ota.
Or you can just flash the 4.4.2 or 4.4.4 for your phone, when completed, flash TWRP on there, reboot hte phone to bootloader, enter Recovery/TWRP and root.
Yes, You can flash a higher/newer version without problems. You just can't flash older once 4.4.2 or higher has been flashed to your phone. (the only time its safe to flash older was when you had 4.4 on your phone, and you were Following the SlapMyMoto process to downgrade to 4.2.2. W/Camera Update as part of the process).
Thank you for this!

Getting a Moto X VZW dev ed in a few days, and while it may never apply to me, I had his same question.
I understand what you said, but it doesn't really address the issue of if it is OK to use these images to flash to a later version...
I am aware of the risks of flashing to older firmwares, but are their risks to flashing NEWER updates? I have seen people go as far as to recommend flashing the current version first to recover, then updating... But is this necessary?

U can always flash newer images without a problem. It's flashing older images (downgrading) that's a problem.

The OTA updates are incremental, so you need to be on a certain level to take them. (to take 4.4.4 you need to be on 4.4.2, to take 4.4.2 you need to be on 4.4, etc)
Full SBF/FXZ files are complete roms. They are not incremental like the OTA Updates are. When flashing a FULL SBF/FXZ you can just flash it, so long as its the same version OR newer than what is on your phone, with no need to "step up." In other words, if you have 4.4 on your phone, you can flash directly to 4.4.4 using the full 4.4.4 SBF, without having to flash 4.4.2 on there first.
The risks to keep in mind would be, just like any update...
If you have a locked bootloader, the vulnerabilities exploited to root and disable write protection might be patched in the newer roms, that means you might not be able to root, or the processes may change for the newer rom. However, with an unlocked bootloader, there is no issue rooting and disabling write protection (lollipop is yet to be confirmed).
In either case, since you can't safely downgrade, if you find bugs, other issues (battery life, reception, etc), or there is something you don't like about the rom, you're stuck, since you can't safely downgrade.
THANK YOU SO MUCH every damn site I went to posted a link to a long dead server LIFE SAVER YOU ARE....

The Motorola Moto Turbo, the Indian variant of the Verizon exclusive DROID Turbo has just received a new firmware update.
Motorola Moto Turbo In Pictures While the phone will still be running on Android Lollipop 5.0.2 after the update, it brings about performance and stability improvements. The update is 16.7MB in size and updates the build number to LXG22.33-12.16.
Previously we had seen that the Moto Turbo was facing some issues in terms of stability as it occasionally did hang up while we were using it. This update should most likely fix the issue and should also improve the performance.
Apart from that, it also fixes a rare issue that will prompt you to enter a PIN code in order to boot up the device and also might result in a audio error if you attempt to make an emergency call before entering the required PIN.
The update is available OTA on Moto Turbo devices in India. While neither the Moto Turbo nor its international counterparts have received the update to Lollipop 5.1, it is said to be releasing sometime in June.

I already have the mexico firmware update on the thread
I flashed this 16mb ota over moto maxx mexico 5.0.2, it brings performance and stability fixes for real. Very recommended ota update who owns a moto maxx / turbo. I didn't take note of the kernel date from the previous 5.0.2 but this one is from april 24, so it must be newer.

So, you don't yet have the complete image to flash with LXG22.33-12.16. ?
And what's with all the crappy "news: websites out there suddenly touting the Moto Maxx is now getting 5.0.2? We've had final 5.0.2 since March... 5.02. soak test was in February, if you want to go back that far.
India Moto Turbo LAUNCHED with 5.0.2 in March, and Moto Maxx got 5.0.2 about the same time.

I agree with you.
Just downgraded to KitKat 2 days ago because of the slowdowns.
Not I'm on 5.0.2 again with that update, it seems way better.
Let's see if it stands the [ultimate] test of time.
.13 loved to crash/slowdown my Snapchat/Spotify/Chrome to the point it was IMPOSSIBLE to use ((
And it insisted to shutdown the Moto 360 connection (buggy bluetooth) :/
Let's hope this got fixed. This were the only issues that I found, tho it were very severe :/

i think there is a slight decrease in battery life, too. However i think it is related to radio because there is not strong H+ connection in my apartment and i usually forget to change network to 2G before sleeping. Cell standby takes %7 of battery according to my battery stats. Before it was about %3-4.

Is the OTA somewhere to download? Based on the screenshots, the radio FW is not updated.

I'm hoping for 5.1 Motorola will post full images or they'll leak. So, we can flash via ADB.
I don't want to go through the hassle of incremental updates from stock.

but @Jaocagomez did that and boot looped on the latest OTA. He was rooted. He had to go back to stock to then flash the OTA update.
I also have root, TWRP installed. It's the hassle of going back completely stock I want to avoid.
Motorola has not released the full image which contains the latest OTA update. So, just hoping with 5.1 they do...
Unless I am misunderstanding something with your suggestion?
Of course "official" 5.1 for Moto Maxx/Moto Turbo is probably a month away at the least. It won't come until Droid Turbo gets it, in my opinion.
We already have two custom ROMs for the Moto Maxx/Moto Turbo XT1225 built on 5.1.1, of course, but will be nice to have official sources released.

I was referring to your full images comment.
Full images can't be flashed via adb, which makes sense because nothing can be running on the flashed parititons and adbd is a kernel service.
It is also why you must reboot after flashing the bootloader, because it runs off whatever is in memory until you reboot. When rebooting, it reads the new flash from the partition.

International Moto Maxx 5.1 official update (Non Droid Turbo)

Ok, I know what you're thinking, 5.1 thread, again???? No it's not.
This is for Non Droid Turbo devices, non US Verizon. So Moto Maxx, Latin America devices such as the XT1225
I am currently on official 4.4.4 and I have already opt in for the Moto Feedback Network, so I should get the Soak test update when available.
So let's keep this threat updated about 5.1 updates for our international Droid Turbo variants.
And by the way here are the DROID TURBO - Android™ 5.1 Lollipop - Release Notes

Did you receive the survey or something? Or are you just being proactive and already creating a topic for when it happens?
Proactive mate, I have already singed up for the program and waiting for the soak for the international version.
Here we can follow updates about different variants of the phone (except for the main Droid turbo USA branch), who gets Soak, or official and news regarding that. I am using a PR XT1225, stock firmware and unrooted sadly due to corporate software.
This is the thread I need...waiting like you. I know we could root and stick L on it, but I want to see what develops first (and KK has been fine for me). But hopefully something will develop soon.

You're lucky you have that option, I don't as I have to use corporate software and cannot be rooted (let's not start talking about root cloaking etc as it didn't work for me)
Let's keep this alive with updates and share stories and we should be fine, I am assuming since Droid US has got 5.1 it won't be far for us. I would give it a month or two.
People keep saying that Droid turbo and Moto Maxx are left behind but the reality is, we are getting the 5.1 update at the same time as the Moto X so we should use the Moto X as an indicator. I think once Moto X (international version) gets the official 5.1 update (currently in Soak testing as the Droid Turbo) we will get it as well.
I think some people won't even have to wait. Tomorrow Motorola will release a downloadable file of Droid Turbo 5.1 for use with RSD lite, and since the Droid Turbo KK worked on Moto Maxx (since it's bootloader can be unlocked), I'm betting this one will too, but with some adjustments (like no flashing the rádio partition/flashing the intl rádio partition afterwards)
That might work, but I won't risk it. I would wait for the official OTA, I have already returned 100% stock. I would have totally gone for it if I didn't have my work apps complications.

The apps are a problem indeed. I'll wait for the oficial release, then go backup to KK, restore my stuff with titanium and update.

I do remember, for you it's really a no go if you want/have to keep the apps/data. Rootjunkysdl already have the OTA file, I'm backing up now to test my hypothesis.
Well I can justify asking for a new access code for my corporate apps after full wipe, but if something goes wrong with root / backup or installing the OTA as Zip my device will be banned. Can't take that risk. So I will have to wait for official or Soak OTA.
But please let us know how that goes for you. Which device do you have? is it a PR XT1225 ?

BR XT1225. One time I flashed the 4.4 Stock ROM for the Turbo in my device and it worked allright, and since this time I will just do the same then update, I think it'll work the same. Still backing up (a lot of data here).
Keep us updated mate.

I haven't tried everything yet because I'm restoring my phone from a hardbrick.
My tries and findings so far:
First hypothesis) Flash KK service ROM KDF21. Directly: I knew it wouldn't work from the begining, since the frequencies for the radio cell are different, but tried anyway. Managed to update to Lollipop (KK -> KK VoLTE -> KK something -> OTA Lollipop) but without cell signal it's useless
Second hypothesis) Flash radio partition from RETBR Lollipop over Droid Turbo Lollipop OTA: didn't work too, don't know exactly the reason.
Third hypothesis) Flash Droid Turbo KK over RETBR KK, BUT without the radio partition, then update: worked till I tried to update (somebody already posted that flashing Droid Turbo KK without flashing radio over RETBR KK works). The system won't update probably because the VoLTE/Advanced Calling update needs to modify radio and finds a different radio partition.
Fourth hypothesis) To be tested yet ---- Update Droid Turbo KK to the latest (after VoLTE), flash radio partition from RETBR KK, then update with Droid Turbo LP OTA: haven't tried this yet because when I was flashing RETBR KK again I bumped at the cable and it was already faulty, so I have to unbrick my device to try again and I'm gathering the stuff to do that (no tutorial available, maybe I'll put something together sometime)
Edit: nvm, found this just a couple threads below: http://forum.xda-developers.com/droid-turbo/general/turbo-unbrick-t3139811

Wow. You are brave!
I'm happy right now with CM 12.1 (5.1.1 Lollipop on my two XT1225 phones. I'm actually in Brazil right now for two weeks, using them.
Hope 5.1 files Motorola releases will help for custom ROMs for our phones.
When Motorola does release 5.1 for the XT1225 (Moto Turbo and international Moto Maxx), the kernel source code is the main thing, but won't come for awhile.
First it's the OTA, then the full image, then a month or so later the kernel code. At least that seems to be the pattern.

Don't buy the Chinese Moto Z Play

Before buying the unlocked Moto Z Play make sure it is not the Chinese version. (Model XT1635-03)
I bought this model (64gb, dual sim) and haven't received a single update yet. (Still on July patch)
I contacted Motorola support and they told me the device had been rooted!! I never rooted or unlocked the bootloader on this phone, and bought it brand new and sealed.
Another user on XDA is reporting a similar problem. https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=70856113&postcount=12
Rooting shouldn't stop you from getting OTA notifications, granted you might not be able to install it but you should get the notifications.
i read that XDA user's post. He says his Chinese Moto Z Play has an unlocked bootloader out of the box. Maybe that's why you don't get official OTA updates, but you may be able to flash new updates using ADB. That has been my experience with phones having unlocked bootloaders out of the box (like a developer edition Moto X).
Not sure where you bought it, but all phones in China are without google apps(google exit China in 2010), so if you received this phone with google app, I guess it is unlocked and could also been rooted.
And believe me you don't want a moto z without google apps, for me it'll be useless...
But at least you should able to flash firmware from other software channels e.g. reteu from the zip file.
The software of Chinese version is absolutely different and you must notice that at the first sight. It's not stock android UI but one from Lenovo and with no google apps in it.
If you don't like the software, you can easily flash it into retEU or Asia or any version you like just by the official RSD Lite. It will get OTA if you don't make any change to the system like root and xposed.

Hi. How is it possible to flash Chinese Moto Z into EU version? Any instructions? Will it certainly get OTAs?
There isn't a lot of problems with that, besides the unlocked bootloader, idk if that is relevant anyway, i buy a lot retail phones from hk and most of them came with unlocked bootloader and also rooted some of them, a Nexus 6, my new MZP, a Moto Droid Turbo, you should flash a retail version and that's all, and you can relock bootloader, but idk why would you do that, if you have any questions, just pm

Just unlock the bootloader and flash the official image with RSD lite or fastboot commands in the regular way, you can look for any instructions on RSD Lite for motorola phones. Then it will work as any version you flash on it, with dual SIM working as well, and the same Chinese LTE bands as before(US LTE bands not included). You'd better not flash fsg.mbn, it's something about signal. (or flash Chinese fsg back is OK).
You can get OTA only if you flash the full image and don't modify the system files. But flashing factory image is more recommended than OTA for its lower risk.
Thank you all. I just was concerned if Chinese Moto Z Play doesn't get OTAs like some guys supposed here and on other forums. It does, so no need to flash into EU version. I have just updated to Nougat on my brand new Chinese Moto Z Play. No worries about mods either.

[help] need to download a specific rom for moto x style

when trying to unlock the bootloader always has this message (failed to get unlock data please try again) and the only possibility of resolving this error is to flash the equivalent or higher bootloader of a ROM retasia 7.0 [CLARK_RETASIA_DS_7.0_NPHS25.200-15-3_cid7_subsidy-DEFAULT_CFC.xml.zip] but the link is premium [http://gsmsolution.org/file-by-model.php?modelId=8962], Someone knows how to unlock the link or know of another where you can download this firmware
Obs: I need to unlock the bootloader to install twrp and restore my sister-in-law's efs folder with a backup I made from my device
Any link where you need to pay to download a factory firmware image is questionable at best... I would highly doubt it's authenticity.
We do not have the Nougat images for any device except the Moto X Pure Edition (XT1575, retus), which just leaked this weekend.
The fact this leaked lends to the possibility we may see other models soon, but it doesn't necessary mean that will happen... Firmware leaks from Moto are few and far between now days. Follow Moto Firmware Team on Twitter for the most up to date info, all leaked firmware seems to come from them in the last several months.
