S4 & Note 10.1 2014 Edition

So I recently sold my Note 2 ahead of the Note 3 launch and I am debating whether or not to get the GS4 and a Note 10.1 2014 edition tab instead of just the Note 3. I feel that the tab will do everything the Note 3 will do just not make phone call and the GS4 will be just as good as any Note out there but in a smaller form. I just played with the Note 3 in store and it seems longer yet narrower.
Thoughts??

What do you want a Note device for? For me it is a business productivity tool and so I use a Note 8 for serious note taking and Note 3 for quick notes and as a plannet/organiser and as a great media device. The Note range is about business and personal use which is why the Note 3 and new 10.1 have Knox.

I dont really use the Note too much for taking notes itself but I did enjoy the screen real estate. I forgot to mention that I will carrying around the 10.1 with me while at work / school........

Possible new devices in 2014 - Note 8.4" Pro

If this is true, I will hold on for LG G PAD 8.3

Wondering what those four new Samsung tablets that we’ve been talking about a lot lately are? Well, thanks to our insider, we now have the name and screen size for each of those tablets – there’s the Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 (SM-T320/T325), Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 (SM-T520/T525), Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 (SM-P900/P905), and the Galaxy Tab 3 Lite (SM-T110/T111). All of these will come in Wi-Fi and LTE models (with the exception of the Tab 3 Lite, which will only have 3G connectivity as befits its low price of around 100 Euros.)
The Galaxy Tab 3 Lite will be the first to launch sometime in week two in Cream White color with a 7-inch screen; it will be followed by the Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 and Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 sometime in week six, while the Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 will arrive just a week later. All three Pro tablets will be available in black and white colors; the Tab Pro 8.4 and 10.1 will come with 16GB of storage while the Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 will have 32GB storage out of the box.
As always, the launch time frames may vary a bit, though all four will be out before March is over. We already have some details on the specs of the Galaxy Tab 3 Lite and the Galaxy Note 12.2 Pro, and we’ll be keeping an eye out for info that might crop up about the Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 and 10.1.

I think that every tablet Samsung has made came in a variant with phone calling capability. The US carriers just won't allow them to bring it here. So my guess is that won't change (on either front) with the new tablets. But, speaking as someone who uses an N5100 as my primary phone, I think an 8.4 tablet would exceed the limits of portability as a daily driver.

That crap needs to stop. Its days away from 2014, 32GB should be the entry level storage option now.
agreed. I just cannot for the life of me understand why they won't just give us that little bit extra storage it would make all the difference. Not like it would cost them that much more.
I haven't seen a mention of note 8.4 pro anywhere, where are you getting you facts from?
there's the "Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4" (which ain't the note line)
and
Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 (which definitely ain't 8.4 incher )

i hope they upgrade the int sd to 32gb like in note 3. but.... 8.4 inch... kind of big... it wont be comfortable to hold anymore... unless you got a gigantic hand...
Unless they keep the device the same size like they've been doing with their phones. I guess we'll see soon enough. I'm guessing we won't see a new Note until the summer

The note 8 was supposed to have a 32gb version too but it never came out. Also with 5 game on my note 8 and a few other small apps I have no more room. Yes I have a 64gb card in it. Problem is the app to sd only puts a very small amount of the app on the sd card. So it doesn't clear much in the internal space.
The 16 gig 8.4 is available today at bestbuy. $399
Stunned at the price in the UK for the wifi only version of the 8.4. £349. SERIOUSLY?
$399 would equate to around £250 in the UK and if the US was paying what £349 is, it would be more like $570 for you guys.
I'm a major Samsung supporter and major Samsung fan. I've had a couple of Samsung Tabs in the past, and at present have the Galaxy Tab 7.7. This has a Super AMOLED plus screen which has been exceptional and unsurpassed on a sub 9" device since it was released. (OK so only just beaten by the recent Nexus 7 v2.0).
So my Tab 7.7 has held up very well. And while I paid £349 for it back when I got it 2 years ago, I am seriously disappointed to see the new Tab Pro 8.4 come in @ £349. There's a lot more competition out there now and it should have been priced as such. I would maybe have stretched too £299 for it as a fanboi, and had hoped for it might be as low as £249. (i.e. US Price)
But seriously Samsung? £349 in the UK?
Sorry Samsung, but you just lost a sale. Don't expect stellar sales at that price.
Meantime I'l keep my 7.7.

Is that inclusive of the VAT? That 20% VAT is crazy.
Think the idea is to compete with the iPad mini 2. If the prices arent similar at launch, they'll probably come down soon to the ipad levels.
The people in the US get some nice freebies too. Hulu subscription, $25 playstore credit and a few other things.
At least you have the wifi option. In India, they try and push the wifi+3g model that bumps the price up another $100 or so.
I have a nexus 7 2013 16 GB model and all I do is download movies which I delete after watching it serves me well but if I do get the galaxy pro 8.4 they would need to release the lte model I will get a 64 GB sdcard problem solved

The 7.7 is a great tablet, in some ways (display, metal build) superior to the Note 8. And the folks that have them tend to keep them, thus the high prices for used ones. I'd still have mine if I hadn't broke it. Samsung got it wrong, the Note 8 should have been a Galaxy Tab 7.7 with a stylus.

UK note 8 is been discounted.... Imminent new version?

As title... I see that a couple of UK retailers have got the Note 8 at £199...down some £100...
Is this an indication of a new version on the same lines as the 10.1 2014 edition?

Hopefully, however quite a few retailers have put the price back up i, e John Lewis, and its only available from Amazon UK from 3rd party sellers.
Lets hope the 2014 Note 8 comes with some stellar specs.
I will be keeping an eye on CES for possible announcements

Confused??? Note Pro 12.2 and Note Pro 10.1 & I just bought a Note 10.1 2014

First off I'm new here and would like to say hello to everyone.
So recently I bought the Note 10.1 2014 and love everything about it. But I've been reading and I'm confused.
So I've noticed from the CES reports and other reports on the Web about the Note Pro line being released here soon. The Note Pro will be released in 12.2, 10.1 and 8.0 displays. With the Note Pro 10.1 you see the specs are the same as the Note 10.1 2014. And the only difference between the 10.1 and 12.1 is display sizes being 2.1 difference.
The Note 10.1 2014 was just released and I don't understand this. I thought buying the 10.1 2014 I was buying Samsung's top of the line tablet PLUS it was titled the 2014 edition but now we see the Note Pro 12.2, 10.1 and 8.0.
Will the 10.1 2014 be overlooked, discontinued, forgotten about, not recognized and support goes down hill? Will they do away with it? Was I screwed by Sammy?
How is this possible when the Note Pro and the Note 10.1 2014 have the same specs and the Note 10.1 2014 was released for 2014?
Is the Note 10.1 2014 basically a Note Pro 10.1? Because the Note Pro will be released in 12.2, 10.1 and 8.0. Basically Samsung will re box all the Note 10.1 2014's to new Note Pro boxes?
I'm wondering if I purchased wrong now ALTHOUGH the Note Pro and Note 10.1 2014 have the same specs.
Thanks and look forward to everyone's replies and thoughts. Please reply. Thanks
Here's Samsung's 2014 tablet line, the first of which was the N10.1-14.
1) Note 10.1 2014 Edition
2) Note 12
3) Galaxy TabPro 8.4
4) Galaxy TabPro 10.1
5) Galaxy TabPro 12
The TabPro 10.1 and TabPro 12 are "Note's" without S Pen and, with the exception of the former having 2GB of RAM, share identical specs with their Note brethren.
I have no idea what Samsung's going to do with Galaxy Tab 3 line or the Note 8 in terms of continued sales. I'm guessing the G-Tab 3's will soldier on with price cuts to appeal to the low-end. It wouldn't surprise me if sometime, maybe the second quarter, if Samsung announced a Note 8.4.
The N10.1-14 will receive 4.4 and the Magazine UX probably before the above new tablets are released or right after. The Note-series delivers Samsung's highest tablet margins. If you read their earnings preview they need to boost their margins badly. Hence the onslaught of premium tablets just announced. So if you don't need S Pen return your N10.1-14 and buy a G-TabPro 10.1 and save $100-150 (WAG). If you really wanted a larger screen return your N10.1-14 and get the N12 and pay $100-150 (WAG) more. Regardless, the N10.1-14 isn't going anywhere.

So my Note 10.1 2014 is not being replaced by a Note Pro 10.1? Basically your saying their only bringing out a Note 12.2 while also having the Note 10.1 2014? I guess they just released the Note 10.1 2014 ahead of time? Lol
Now talking about "Pro" series. Is this only what Tab is being called for example as you said TabPro?
Because what I thought I read was Samsung was releasing:
Galaxy Note Pro 12.2
Galaxy Note Pro 10.1
Galaxy Note Pro 8.0
Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2
Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1
Galaxy Tab Pro 8
So is the Note series not getting the "Pro" in the name (like above) and only the Tab series (like you listed above)?
I'm just really confused
BTW I use my S Pen a lot and love it.

So... is the Note 10.1 2014 going to from here on out or will it now be re branded as the Note Pro 10.1? Reason be is it has the same specs as the Note 12.2 basically and has the S Pen. BTW it is a 2014 edition. I mean you couldn't just bring out a new tablet for 2014 and wipe it aside for newer models.
Plus the tabs are being called the TabPro's so is the Note 10.1 2014 basically or will it also be known as the Note Pro 10.1? I'm thinking Samsung will probably just re box the Note 10.1 2014 with a box that says Note Pro 10.1 instead. Because basically same specs and S Pen. And again its the new 2014 model of the Note tablet and nothing really different.

To clarify all the confusion:
The Note 10.1 2014 will retain its name for now at least.
The Note 12.2 Pro is exactly the same as the Note 10.1 2014 aside from the new software and the increased size.
The Tab series now has a Pro lineup, seeing as how you have
-Tab 3 7.0, 8.0 and 10.1
Which are all midrange/low-end.
The Tab Pro series, clearly focused on the high end, are
-Tab Pro 8.4, 10.1 ad 12.2.
These all make up the new high-end tablet range from Samsung.
Two Notes, the 10.1 2014 and the 12.2 Pro, and three Tab Pros.

Edit: Yes, I realise this doesn't have the S-Pen, but it's near identical hardware specification (minus the S-Pen) and improved software software spec. (Kit-Kat and more business oriented apps) do set it apart from the Note 10.1.
Edit #2: This post is not an invitation to troll XDA Developers, please do not respond unless you have something meaningful or intelligent to contribute. Thank you.
That's the tab version omneity.
what I don't understand is why are there two versions? just have a note pro X size and be done with it. the galaxy tab series from what I can see is the same without the stylus? It's not like if you don't want to use it the stylus hinders the experience. it's horribly and unnecessarily confusing to the average consumer.
You know, when you think about it, they should/could have called the N10.1-14 the "Note 10.1 Pro" from the start. It's not like the tablets just announced weren't well under development when the N10.1-14 was announced in October.
Reasons I can think of for not:
1) They continued to push the OG N10.1 over the holidays with discounts and calling its successor "pro" might have dampened sales. It was featured at BB, the U.S'. largest electronics reseller in their Christmas marketing and advertising.
2) Introducing a device with "pro" attached could have fueled speculation before the holidays that what just happened might happen and dampen sales of Samsung's existing tablets, some of which are pretty dated and light on specs. Look at what happened with the Nexus 10 2 that never got announced. People held off purchasing the old one and didn't buy any brand of new tablet because rumors swore the Nexus 10 2 was imminent.
3) Is what the N10.1-14's named even matter? With yesterday's announcement why they released a device in 2013 named "2014 Edition" suddenly becomes clear. Since the G-Tab Pro 10.1 and Note 10.1 2014 Edition are as similar as the G-Tab Pro 12 and Note 12 Pro Samsung could change the N10.1-14's name to Note 10.1 Pro. I'm guessing the challenge is we all bought it under its original name and can't think of any manufacturer changing the name of a product already in people's hands. Support would be confusing also if an identical product was assigned two different names.
Regardless, based on all the new tablets including the N10.1-14 having their specs so meticulously aligned there would be zero reason for Samsung to release a "Note 10.1 Pro" that had any newer or better specs or features than the current N10.1-14 and the just announced tablets. Other than one out of five devices having a non-aligned name, Samsung's 2014 tablet line is the most coherent I've seen (until we find out what happens at the low end and to the N8 ). So I think we're all safe in our investments and Samsung's just got a naming convention issue on their hands until the "Pro 2" or "2015 Edition" series come out.

They have average consumer line (Tab) and more powerful one (Note, S Pen, more RAM, used to be more powerful processor). Pen requires special screen, it adds to the cost of device.

Yes , this seems to be the product line-up now: a lower-end basic tablet; a higher-specified tablet for the "professional" user; and the Note range with S-Pen input.
My take on this is rather than creating a 'budget' tablet to compete ate the lower-end of the market, they have created a new premium range in the Tab Pro range to allow sale price lessening of the lower specified (old generation?) Tabs. It makes sense given the mockery Apple exposed themselves to when then created the "budget" iPhone 5c. There has been a massive sales increase in tablets over the past few months, most of these have been at the lower end of the price market, Samsung, although doing very well in tablet sales, have probably lost sales due to the relatively high price of their Tab range. I've heard several people say they like the Samsung tablets, but feel they're a bit more than they want to pay (especially when the Samsung is surround by cheap Chinese clone tablets with low-res screens and 512k RAM). Many people's purchase choice is driven by price rather than by specification and brand reputation; after all a tablet's a tablet - right? Besides, tablet computers are cheap enough to be almost regarded as disposable items these days, so if I make the wrong purchasing decision then it's not a lot of money to lose.

No.
I think SS may be release a new Note 10.1 model in late 2014
with 64Bit Mobile CPU (Snap or Exy)
we can estimate the spec. from the new Note 4 :silly:
In that time I may switch to Note Pro 12.2 (cheaper than today)
I read some comment saying, maybe after KK update it will be names NotePro 10.1 2014. who knows!
