A review - Note Edge General

I have had my Edge for a few days, and I may change my mind on a few aspects, but this is what I feel at the moment.
What has stood out so far is:
The cost. I am happy to pay a fair amount for my technology, but this phone is very expensive. This alone will ensure that this will remain a niche device. Maybe Samsung see it as a prototype for the allegedly forthcoming Galaxy S6 and are more interested in the response to it than sales.
The battery. It leaks power at a rate I haven't come across before. Which makes it very fortunate that it charges so very quickly - and that it has the ultimate power saving mode. I would really rather not have to use my phone in black and white though.
The curve. This is, of course, what makes it unique. It feels and looks wonderful and is very well made. Handing it around to some friends today, they were all very impressed. It makes accessing my apps very easy, but I'm note sure that it is a life changer when compared to accessing them from the regular screen(s). I'm not going to call it an edge, because that would demean it as it is a beautifully manufactured curve. It really ought to be called the Note Curve.
I really can't see what I should be doing with S pen. I have googled it and no one else seems to know either, so I suppose it will have to make do as an adequate tea stirrer.
The screen is simply gorgeous. The size of the phone fits well in my large hand. I am ostensibly left handed (there are several things I do right handed), and hold my Edge in my right hand. Accessing the edge strips seems natural and easy. Contrary to some reviews, having the wake up button at the top doesn't seem problematical to me.
Overall it works very well, and is very appealing to use. It is exciting in the way that, say, the S5 never was. But at that price, it really should be.

Omg. Don't know what to do with the S Pen? Fair enough, but I make business notes most days with my S Pen. Wacom digitisers are not new so can't believe you can't find YouTube video on what to use stylus for.

Do you find it easier to make handwritten notes rather than to type them or say them? Do you use the pen for anything else?

I'm using out of the box unmodified Note Edge and battery life is comparable with the Note 4 which is to say it's great
What Widgets are you running? Do you use the phone in a bad signal area?

Notes includes diagrams. Difficult to do ad hoc mind maps with a keyboard. Not acceptable to make notes in a meeting with voice input. I use hand written input some times for short entries and some times keyboard. I also have the Note 10.1 2014 and can sync notes with OneNote.

The only widget I use is a weather one. My signal is OK.

Lol at tea stirrer. Give the s pen a chance it might hook you lol

Yes, I have only had it for a few days. I have found I can do the most amazing Islamic type of calligraphy with it, though. I can see the use that jah has for it when it comes to diagrams. But I was serious about Google: try something like 'what to use the S pen for', and virtually nothing relevant comes up.

My first search came up with this:

The first one has one short tip on how to configure it, the second one again has one tip for the pen. The third - the video - is pretty much what I have been looking for. Thank you.

IMO, I think many make the mistake of purchasing a Note smartphone w /o keeping in mind that its design is moreso catered for those who know how to utilize the Spen i.e. note taking in meetings, journalism, school, etc. It appears to me that many will buy or have bought this model only for the performance and size, and the Spen will only be regarded as an extra accessory rather than an integral part of ones need with this phone. For me, I bought this phone knowing exactly how the Spen could become useful for my everyday needs. Therefore I find myself using it practically everyday.

If pens were more mainstream I think most people would buy a phone that has one. If people take an hour to see what the pen can accomplish then it would make more sense to them as to why these phones are far superior to other phablets. Most people don't need the pen, but for me it is invaluable for work. It makes excel file editing far easier. That's the majority of my use. I also use it on my 12.2.
I have the iPhone 6 Plus as well for a personal phone and it is fairly useless for what i need. Once we have profiles in 5.0 I will sell the 6 Plus. I don't want to have to use Knox or Private Mode to seperate my work and play phones.

I agree!

I use my pen all the time... Notes for class, phone numbers for study groups, writing on photos of items for sale, clipping images off websites to put in my scrapbook and notes, research I've done while waiting for the kids. I could go on and on but there are many different ways to use the pen. I haven't used the power save mode too much because I have been having great battery life like my Note 3. The edge screen has been very helpful switching between apps, I was working on something else, a quick thumb tap and I'm on top of things that needed my attention, quickly. Multitasking made easy. Oh and Office 360 works like a champ on here. Keep on messing with it, you will be addicted soon.

Penabled
Im used to penabled tablets and used to making notes. I have a pen since the note 2 but it is not as usefull al on en full tablet. No place to lay your hand down, so note functionality is limited in my opinoin. I bought the phone for the size, speed and unique formfactor.

lol. Ive previously owned three note devices and despite being a heavy phone user never used the S pen.
Never thought about using it as a tea stirrer

I like note 4 edge. But im using note 4 by Exynox. How do to it alike note 4 edge. Im in vietnamese and i waiting for next of Note 4. I very like Spen on Note 4. Anyone can help me to root Galaxy Note 4 Exynox? Its coming

For me, I like having all my frequently used icons, notifications, S Health results and appointments all in place. It's not like life changing, but it looks great and it's very nice to use.
But - the more I use this phone, the more I like it. The quality of the screen is amazing; the colours and the crispness really leap out. I've got the Flip case, and it integrates with the phone beautifully. I really like the feel and use of it.

I like the idea of using it as a tea stirrer. I don't use it much, because my handwriting is atrocious!! Battery life is ok, to me not much different than any large smartphone I have owned. Key is to go through the App Manager and disable anything you are not going to use. My biggest drainer was the S-Health. I don't need my phone telling me I walk 3 to 5 miles a day at work. So once that was disabled, and a few other items I don't use, my battery life went from 20% left when I leave work, to 55%. And I use live wallpaper too. I don't gimp my phone, but I do shut off stuff I don't use.

I know, having to hold down a button for 1 second is SUCH a drag on the SGS2..
These pictures will keep coming for every iteration of the iPhone.

haha =) Apple have to do something big in the future now..
These discussions are becoming pointless. I love sgs2 and wouldn't swap it for an ip4, but then again, if I could be arsed (to show the pointlessness) I would do a sheet where the galaxy only has one tick over a stone and ip4 has loads. Resolution, UI presentation, transitions etc.. ip4 is much better in some respects, as is the sgs2. Pointless..
Don't become as Iphone funboys pls.

It`s made to laugh only.. you mention resolution. all websites favorizeses SAMOLED+ over the IPS display. UI on the iPhone is the same as it was back in 2007 with only icons on the screen, nothing more.
The list could actually contained 3x more stuff than it does, making the iPhoneusers look like they live in a prison.
But both have pros and cons, that`s right. But the picture still is funny;D
Comparing a year old iphone to the, less than a month old galaxy S II is a bit weak.
That said, iphone is a GAME changer and MAGICAL woooooooo weeeeeeeee
there are many things for a serious developer standpoint that are way better on ios. But from a user standpoint just looking at hardware course the sgs2 is super, it's way newer! But at the end of the day, most of those points on the list aren't true. I have dlna streaming on 3gs i have etc. Wirless sync, wicked multitasking and can even force an app to act as foreground even when in background (continue play video, running a graphics filter on an image etc). Comparing the 2 only has a point to the individual comparing. I dont get this defensiveness over phones really. oh well
Well, I happened to change loads of mobile devices (buy and sell ofcourse), some of them being HTC Desire HD, HTC HD7, Samsung Galaxy S, LG Optimus 2x, Nokia N8, Nokia C7, Xperia Arc, and now the iPhone.
I have to say that, although it is a little bit limited when it comes to "openness" compared to almost every other OS (Windows Phone OS is by far the worst crap I have ever tasted, so I dont even count it in), iPhone has the + that it is much more stable than anything else in the market, which is what people really want when it comes to business usage. And everything that it has on it works exactly as it should (e.g. the 5mp camera quality is fantastic, and way better, especially when it comes to 720p recording, than all the other devices I owned). GPS "hooks up" in max 20 secs, battery life is excellent, it never crashes, it is always lightning fast with no hick-ups (had many of these problems with Galaxy S).
And now, suddenly, the news is that Android is being struck by viruses and trojans (I personally believe that, if such malware exist, its either Jobbs job, or Gates ). When I had the Arc, I installed AVG, which was crap, and when I uninstalled it it ****ed up my device, which required a full restore.
I wish that Google just stopped jumping from version to version lightning fast (7 versions in 3 years is an exaggeration), and just pause for a year, trying to refine 2.3 OS and the Android Market management.

There is a difference though. most of the claims the iPhone can make against the SGS2 are subjective only, not technical. The resolution of the screen is pretty much the only one it can win and there are counter arguments about other aspects of the screen (poor blacks, small size, wrong aspect ratio etc).

Hence why I said a hardware comparison is obviously sgs2 bias. But IOS vs Android is another matter. But the best is always what most suits the individual. Not what anyone other than YOU say. So thats why I still think comparing them in anything but superficial and subjective ways is almost impossible. UI speed, but what if your a little slow Customizable to hell, what if you dont customize, touch response, what if your not one to notice, call quality, what if you only ever phone when your on a building site lol Everything is context based and subjective
Of course, everything is subjective in this matter. But when all the reviewers come with the same conclusion on which is the best, can we then conclude that the product is best for the mass? (Generally)

Ahhh, a philosophical question
In my very humble opinion (relevant only to meee):
2 answers:
a) you can conclude what you want, as it's your conclusion (but no1 else's)
b) in only as much as you believe one, two or even a group can speak for the entire population all users.
Even with just the sales figures, even though iphone product range in mobile smartphone market has a much bigger share than samsung smartphones, I would not presume that ip4 is better for the masses. For to conclude of presumption is but a fools game
enough of my bs now
nice work
what exactly makes the multitasking on the gs2 real and the multitasking on the iphone 4 fake? on android i thought all the devices you have to hold down the home button which pops up an apps list and go to another app just like you do on iphone

That is correct for android - and that'll switch you like one does in windows.
With apple, SOME apps will multi-task but others with simply close down and restart when you open them. For example every time I go to re-open IM+ (after a few minutes of browsing/gaming etc) it will have to rebuild my session.
My calendar apps has to re-pull down my events. A few games have to reload.
(this all goes on on an iPad so it's not as if it's not meant to multi-task)
It could just be with my experiences of apps, but I've never had this problem with my phone.
Also i think that's the way the iPhone 4 achieves such a good battery life, because many of the apps are not actually running in the background, even thought they appear to be - not sure about that though.
Honestly? I just don't care about these ordeals anymore. Honestly I prefer the openness of android and hate itunes and having to screw with that whole deal to put media on my phone. I think that rejecting facts is frustrating on either end but tend to see this more on the iphone end in my personal experiences. I also think it is intelligent and obviously works, but the way apple exploits the less technically savvy people who buy a $40 fm radio adapter or car adapter that is apple specific compared to the $5 one that is generic and works with any media device : / there are some benefits and perhaps people either don't care. Or really want to 'accessorize' all their stuff to be apple-tastic. But i think some people are disappointingly exploited by this. Also name brand association has pissed me off. Graduated high school a few years back and hated hearing 'no listening to ipods' thinking i should be able to take out my sansa, (enter name of any pmp besides ipod here). And tell them screw off because they said simply no ipods assuming that would cover everything. But reliability is nice. They have stepped up their game with using decent hardware typically their hardware was far behind and charged 150% and still sold. But the iphone 4 was on par hardware wise with other phones and their ipads appear to be as well. But to each his own if anyone wants to spend their money on that that's their personal deal.

Seems cool but its such a niche market they are targeting.
Probably more than likely targeted for the Asian/Korean market. They had a previous model by the same or similar name last year.

Well they called the Note a niche, now it seems pretty popular. But yeah this one will be niche, I don't care, if its not overpriced I will get it. Bigger screen is always a welcome.
I predict future phones will all have projecting ability.

The screen is only 4", but you're probably talking about the projected image. But if you're thinking the projected image is going to look even remotely good enough to "enjoy" you're fooling yourself - 15 lumens is pretty weak. And on top of that battery life is probably going to be dismal, other features will definitely be removed or skimped on to make room for the projector (and to keep the cost down), and Samsung will abandon this thing update-wise faster than you can say "Samsung will abandon this thing update-wise". For all those reasons I wouldn't touch this thing with a 10' pole. The more I think about it, you have yourself a recipe for the worst phone of 2012 brewing in this thing.
This video was filmed at MWC2012 at Barcelona.

You can see the main functions and the projector. I am here for any questions.
Interesting concept but projector quality and battery life are probably lacking.
Hey!
I have used the phone for a week now and it's absolutely amazing! Here's a video review I made. I apologize for the bad quality in the dark shots, but my cameras are too average to handle it. I can assure you the image is crisp clear in complete dark rooms, but in even the slightest light you loose details and sharpness, and as you can see in my video, in the evening (it was 7 pm), you can't see a thing.

how was the battery life on it, is it for like a short time use on battery? or can you play an entire movie?
It can go a full 5h on one charge, so they say, but i have never tried to drain the battery on the projector only. What's more, you get a second battery you can charge independently and simultaneously so watching a full movie is a piece of cake. As far as a smartphone goes, it uses the battery fairly ok, you can easily get more than an entire day on 3g, wifi and others.

I have used the phone for a month now. I considered getting it for its battery life more than for its projector. The price is as expected if you consider that pico projectors cost ~£70 on ebay. Nevertheless I am so pissed off with any smartphone's battery life in general that I would easily pay £70 to get one that gives best possible.
This phone has 4" and 2 batteries with 2000miliamphours close to SGSIII or the new google nexus that have much bigger screen. So if I don't use the projector but every thing else turned on 24/7, Wifi, 3G, live wallpaper, skype, steam, 6 im+ accounts and normal to heavy use, I can get 2 days without charging AND having the 2nd battery that comes in the box for another 2 days.
I was expecting the projector to be nothing more than a gimmick and not good as it actually is! With flash support I can stream live tv on my wall or ceiling. I had to craft a base for it from a little box so that it can stay upright and charge at the same time. Sure it needs to be dark but for the times of the day that i wanted to use it, darkness was not a problem. Even in daytime thought, I can use a A4 sheet of paper across the desk from where its charging and play videos or tv shows as an additional 10-12" screen on my desktop.
So your assumption about battery life, sorry to say but it is false. The battery life on this phone is one of the best out there, just because they needed to do so to support the projector. The projector is a feature more than it is a gimmick and it has proven useful for me on every day use.
Cons:
-I've only heard announcements for official upgrade to JB but I haven't received one yet. Still running GingerBread.
-no 3rd party support for roms and kernels, yet., I am missing features such as USB-OTG and overclocking. Barely a rooting guide exists.
-no dedicated XDA forum for GT-I8530
-stock prevents me from using the projector while gps is locating.. (not a yuge problem imo, just annoyance)
Overall the phone is a WIN situation for me. Official or 3rd party support is a matter of time.
Why is there no XDA forum for it? They should start turning op pretty cheap on ebay and with the projector it's an obvious candidate for custom applications.

Samsung Galaxy Note - I tried to like it :-(

I tried to like the Galaxy Note. I really did. However, the size is just to overpowering for me. Plus, I couldn't shake the fact that the GS3 has come out as a more feature-proof device.
When I first got the phone, I was in LOVE, LUST, whatever! However, pulling it out of my purse begin to feel like a chore and the noticeable lag was not something I felt I had to deal with on a $600.00 phone. Now, I know you say, well stall a new launcher/rom. But guys, these treats should ADD to a phone not mask faults/shortcomings.
I have to say, after hearing that the Note II may be a bigger size, I have to wonder what brave soul would carry it? Soon, will be putting Ipads up to our ears!
All in all, I want to say that I have enjoyed the Note forums and have learned soo much. Kudos, to those who LOVE their phones and I wish you a smooth free experience going forward.
P.S. Not looking for a fight, please don't start one. We are entitled to our opinions. That's what makes the world go round
Any Note owners considering the move to the GS3? I'd love to hear from you.
Im sad you feel like that but i guess its personal preference,
For me Ive adapted to the size, at first it was overwhelming but now it feels normal, All other phones feel miniature lol !!
Im also considering the SGS3, but not to replace my Note ! I have 2 lines with my provider and ones almost up, So I think I may get the S3 or hold out for the note2
that being said, Phones are getting bigger and bigger now, The HTC One X is big, Hell even the SGS3 is big !!
I dont make a lot of calls, and when i do i have my head phones / bluetooth headset in, So i rarely need to hold it to my ear.
I love my ''Phablet'' !!!
I could have bought an S3, but I chose the note instead. The S3 has a very slightly better camera sensor and two more cores on a slightly better CPU.
I see the Note's size as a plus, but that's entirely subjective. Both are great devices, and either will serve you well. Sometimes it takes a day or two to really know if you really like a device enough to keep it.
Today I asked a retailer if I could swap my SGN for S3.
I consider moving to S3 because of superbrick bug and screen issues.
But I'm still holding ..... isn't S3 another Samsung phone ?
Little confusion but I'll follow S3 forums and decide.
I was on the.original 5" bandwagon with the sell streak, I have had my note since November and I won't consider anything other than a note 2 for my next device.
There really is no going back from the.functionality of a 5" screen, for me at least.

You are not masking anything..bad choice of words.
Using a better ROM makes the phone faster and a lot smoother. There is no masking involved is all too real and proves that is not a hardware fault.
I do it with every phone and in the case of the NOTE. I am not changing unless it is for a NOTE 2 or similar.

Ever heard of these little battery-powered race cars from some years ago?
You buy one, Car A, and it goes like say, just for the sake of an example, 20mph. You buy another one, Car B, and it goes for 15mph.
Then you get yourself some aftermarket parts - engines, wheels, or whatever, and modified both Car A and Car B and now you're sure they are both in their fastest. After doing that, Car A now goes at 30mph, while Car B goes at 40mph. Car B is faster now even if it was slower to begin with. It had more potential than Car A - but that won't be realized without some effort on your part. Also, it's also useful to note that the manufacturers of these two cars may be different from each other and may also not be expecting what you intend to do modify their cars as well.
Heck, why am I even using toy cars as a comparison? Should've went straight to phone comparisons and the text would've been much shorter. XD
Anyway, I'm assuming you have a Note. Try not to throw it away and just play with it. Maybe you'll find time to like it some day.
This is the best phone i ever had and i don`t feel the need to buy the Galaxy S3.
I`am not realy fond of touchwizz so i am running CM9, the phone is super fast, has no lags and does work as it is supposed to be.
I love the big screen for browsing, games, video`s and photo`s.
I will probably only change for the Note 2 :victory:

You are not masking anything..bad choice of words.
Using a better ROM makes the phone faster and a lot smoother. There is no masking involved is all too real and proves that is not a hardware fault.
I do it with every phone and in the case of the NOTE. I am not changing unless it is for a NOTE 2 or similar.

Difference of opinion. I stand by my original statement. I even upgraded to ICS and while it made some difference in smoothness, the results were negligible plus it added some problems.
Adding to my original post. I also think the Note is going to become the red-headed step-child now that the GS3 is out. May not be true, but that is my gut feeling. Besides, I bought my note, last week -- Technically, I'm already using outdated equipment. For those who are passed their return windows, the Note is great, but for those who still have time to AT LEAST play with the SG3, I would.

I love my Note, have a fantastic rom running on it and its lightning fast and perfect for everyday use. Plus it suits my massive hands down to the ground.

The only my 1 BIG reason getting the Note is S-pen. It really saves my work days apart from other BIG cool features.
If the S-pen means a lots to you then all other smartphones, out there, are being nothing nowadays.
do you really need it?
I'm sensing that you don't need a Note or the S3.
The note is all about utility and function, not form or fashion.
Are you just uncomfortable with not having the latest?
Just how fast/smooth do you need it to be?
If UI speed is your main concern, you need Windows Phone 7.
Looks like you want a WP7 phone like a Lumia 900.
if u r afraid of roms or if think u r going 2 get something good 4 u as a seasoned droid guy
STOCK?
u r insane
what u get is a rom thats good 4 samsung or apple or whowevers biz strategy it happens 2 be

Interesting discussion, and I'd like to post my opinion as well.
What clearly differentiates the Note from other phones is the size. And the pen. I almost forgot about the pen, as I hardly use it. For me, a Note would be equally fine if it came without the pen. Some will disagree here, as they have other usage requirements.
I deliberately chose the Note due to the screen size. I had iphone and other phones, and I use the phone frequently to watch movies and to browse the web during my frequent travels. Having used iphone and others previously, I got more and more depressed with the small screens. I can say that I appreciate the Note's larger screen and its great resultion. It makes these tasks simply more fun.
If someone performs tasks such as phone calls and SMS, the larger screen size does not benefit (much). So appreciation with the phone is releated to its use.
So I believe the phone serves people with certain specific requirements, and other features/functions are then simply less important.
Unfortunately for me, watching movies is somewhat affected by the bad screen gamma as reported at many several in the forum. But I still would not want to change back to a smaller size, as I am not much disturbed by it and I can live with the issue (also because my screen is by far not as bad as what some guys report here).
If I ever (have to) change the phone, I wish it would have the following characteristics:
1. Approx. same screen size, but certainly not smaller
2. No gamma issue / better gamma calibration
3. Better back camera (better sharpness, less distortion, better light sensitivity)
4. Provide root access out of the box (no jailbreak/rooting required)
5. Better battery life of Android OS (probably requires better software programming skills)
Performance-wise, I am totally happy with what I have now, and I am not requiring more CPU cores or higher frequency. My phone has been totally responsive all the time out of the box since November 2011.
I had GB 2.3.5, 2.3.6 and ICS 4.0.3, am now on Paranoid Android 0.4 as I totally disliked the email app in ICS. So the operating system still matters somewhat. So it is good to have a choice here.
The only time I feel that the Note is too big is when I am in "dangerous" zones in the city where people could snatch your phone anytime! I mean if you take out a smaller phone, it would probably go unnoticed at 60% of times, but with the Note out in your hands, this huge beast will surely attracts everyone's attention in 99% rate!
Otherwise, I never encountered any so called problems that many people are complaining about!
Some adapt to Note's size, some don't. Good thing is that we have a choice. I'm really against Apple-like "one size fits all" philosophy.
from a gamer's perspective i say : f*ck all other phones, the screen is just perfect for my taste.

Reviews, Feedback & Opinions on Note 10.1

The idea behind this thread is to have all reviews, opinions and feedback of note users collated under one roof.
This would make things simple for everyone easy to post opinions updates feedback, for those who look upon us before making a purchasing decision easier to find them.
I hope this is not take in a wrong way the whole idea is to get things organize so information is easier to find and not scattered around but not boss around or offend anyone.
I just got my note yesterday and I have to say that it's a pretty amazing and fast piece of tech. I'll come back to edit this review more as I use it (and receive my case so I can use it a little more roughly like I normally do).
So far:
Pros-
Amazingly fast.
No stutters (I had the original Transformer TF101.. which had lags sometimes).
Sound is amazing (why don't other tablets have front speakers?).
Wacom stylus is streets ahead of capacitive crap / sorry adonit jot just doesn't cut it).
Multi-tasking is awesome!
Cons-
S-note is.. underwhelming. (But lecture notes was great!) Seriously wished s-note was better because I kind of like it.
Multi-tasking is limited.. (although we get the Galaxy Note 2's multitasking abilities after we get jb right?)
EDIT:
Just used this for class.. and doodling, amazing! It's like taking notes on paper, without the weight and fuss and ink and ****, and I can copy and paste stuff. Also, I used it in the crapper, and it's amazing for reddit and stuff because it won't crash from loading too many images. But the stylus is freaking fantastic! AHHHh! (BTW, LectureNotes is definitely worth it. I like Papyrus more than it in the beginning because Papyrus was easier to use, but LectureNotes' customizability is waaaaay worth the learning curve.)
This is a general trend because of the aprehensions created by biased reviews people have doubts before purchasing a note but ones they have got one they are happy I have yet to see any one regretting purchasing a note
It is a great devices there is no doubt about it
I do not use S notes so no positive or negative feedback but yes those on JB say there are some improvements on Snote
The multiapps feature is limited and with JB some more apps have been added but again no google native apps have been added but the reason for the limitation is due to the reason that for every app code needs to be added and apps needs to be recompiled the problem is that Samsung cannot control the updates of google apps they are push directly and hence it will be difficult but I think in future as time goes by more and more developers will adapt the feature and so the number of apps with multiview will grow

I still love using my Note 10.1. Its never given me any problems. Its worked well out the box since day one. So much so that I stayed stock and feel no need to root it. Can't wait till we get JB update. I am very tempted to get a Nexus 10 also. Bit I have too many devices as it is. This device performing so well makes it hard to justify getting another android tab. Aside from screen resolution increase and newer/more powerful processor. And HDMI port built onto device..lol
The only improvements that I would make hardware wise, would be screen resolution and more memory. Software changes would be more apps available to be used in multi screen.
Other than that everything else is spot on.
Another victory for Galaxy note 10.1
http://www.designntrend.com/article...ng-galaxy-note-apple-microsoft-surface-rt.htm
Here’s yet another blow for Apple, which is embroiled in a multi-billion dollar battle with Samsung.
Consumer Reports, a magazine that reviews consumer products, recently pitched Samsung Galaxy Note, and not the market-dominating iPad, as the most groundbreaking tablet of 2012.
Based on performance and innovation, the magazine noted that “the 10-inch Galaxy Note adds capabilities that no other tablet, not even the Apple iPad, currently offers. An excellent performer overall, it almost matches the superb battery life of the iPad and adds a memory-card slot that its rival lacks.”
Like Us on Facebook
On the design front too, many reviewers feel that the Galaxy Note scores over the third generation of iPad. For instance, the Apple iPad 3 has an all aluminum back and glass front, which makes the device heavy. On the other hand, the Galaxy Note has gone for a plastic construction, which makes it easy to hold for long hours.
But if its style over substance, the iPad 3 is the best choice as it “looks and feels like the premium option,” according to an IBTimes

Very true. But it's hard because the iPad has been cemented in people's heads as THE tablet. Honestly, most people I know (who aren't tech people, but aren't "stupid, tech-phobes" just refer to all tablets as "iPads" in the same way people refer to tissue as kleenex. I'm not sure how any tablet can get away with not being compared to the iPad unless Apple bankrupts or keeps getting bad publicity (and still, not that much honestly) for suing everyone for everything.
Its a brand preception which was generated we can say the same for Iphone but yet S3 has over taken it, yes all people are not techsavy but most of them understand a difference between Ipad and Note the only reason they buy an Ipad is because of the hype surrounding it again it is a brand which has generated over time and it is a good product there is no denying that
Overtime like things have changed for Iphone it will change of Ipad because Apple has reached its peak and now it will slide down like Apple Samsung is looking towards reaching its peak and after it enjoys its stay over there someone else will do that.
After using the note 10.1 for 3 months, I feel that if you are looking for a generic tablet for media and content consumption, a tablet like iPad or the nexus 10 will be more suitable for you, with higher resolution screen on paper and either same price or cheaper. However if you're looking for true productivity, multitasking and content creation (taking notes, replacing pen and paper for a student), note 10.1 is definitely the best option. Well if you're reading this you're definitely not a generic user or average consumer so you know what to choose I personally have no regrets buying it as a student. Have not touched a pen or paper for very long and my laptopis collecting slightly more dust than ever.
i used my note for like 1 month , i really loved it so much , good screen res , very good smooth , no lag at all
u can hold ur pen and type what u want , multitasking are very poweful
i can play all games , i can play with photoshop
finally all i can say u will hold tablet that makes u dont need a PC
Best Tablet I Have Ever Used
Coming from the Asus Transformer Prime TF201, I have to say, this tablet is amazing. My prime suffered from WiFi, Bluetooth, gps light bleed, and I/O issues, even with sending it to Asus. This tablet fixes all of that and still adds more. I was worried about the screen being small, but I looked at the specs of my Prime to find out they both have the same resolution. This tablet is fast, sleek, and does everything I wanted in a tablet. I would highly recommend this tablet to anyone who wants a productivity device or creative device.
I had to make the hard decision between the Nexus 10 & the Note 10.1. I watch a lot of videos & I love great looking picture quality. The Nexus 10 was the best choice in that department, but it didn't offer much else to me personally right out of the box. The Note 10.1 on the other hand did (especially since I'm a student). After looking at the reviews, I was kind of down on the screen, but I was quite impressed when I actually saw it in the store. The screen is not top of the line, but it's actually quite good. Coming from a long line of AMOLED products, the colours look fantastic. Highly recommend this for students & those who just want their tablets to do more.

This was my deciding factor(along with the fact I had a newegg gift card). The "reviewers" harp on it for having a 1200 x 800 screen, instead of looking at what it offers. I decided to look at amazon reviews which praised the tablet. I also went into the store to check it out to find the screen really beautiful. I would highly recommend someone go into the store and check out tablets instead of reading paid reviewers.
The reviewers have only one major so called flaw by them to work with thats the display so all they do is use it to critized the note and create an impression that it is a bad peice of hardware what is surprising is that for a so called bad device there is only praises from the actual users

They have to find something to grab on to make the device seem worse then the iPad. It is amazing what they say sometimes.
My opinion about note 10.1
I have the impression there is two distinct opinions about the note, i don't know why.
Before i buy the note 10.1 i read a lot of reviews from sites and magazines and so on, and most of all don't give me a good impression of the note 10.1. In general it was a regular tablet.
But in other way when reading the opinion of the users, all of them said wonderful things, some of them already use other tablets like Ipad. And the most important was that they talk about things that i didn't read on the reviews.
One of that things was the S-Pen, yes they talk about it, but, just superficial. I use the pen to do almost everything, write mails, documents, notes, internet.
I can edit photos and videos using software that came installed by root, don't need to buy it. I can make art with it (abstract art because my drawings....). I have real multitask.
I use this tablet for working, not just for read, or using the internet, thats the big diference. Everything i do on a computer i do it here, with a litle bit of practice, but I can do it.
About the display, have anyone already put the note 10.1 side by side with a full HD, my laptop is 17" full hd and i didn't found any diference. Perhaps brightness and colors, but even the same display could appaer different on this aspects, but in the pixels I cannot find.
As you can see i like very much my note 10.1 :good:

Finally, a NEW Android phone with a QWERTY!

I'm one of those few people who prefer physical keyboards. I have a DROID-4. Was really sad when those "leaks" of the DROID-5 turned out to be fake.
I think this device would be a good upgrade. I feel the only reason we're getting a keyboard on this Android phone is because it's being manufactured by Blackberry, and the QWERTY is one of their quintessential features. I doubt we'll ever get any new QWERTY Android phones from other manufacturers.
Although I've never liked "portrait" style keyboards, for some reason it seems to suit this device. And the specs are really good. I hope it runs Android M.
Here's a hands-on video I watched of the device: https://youtube.com/watch?v=uJ6Yvp7-z3E - Looks pretty sweet.

Day 1 purchase for me. My Relay is ready to be retired. I wonder how many QWERTY faithful are planning on getting the Priv? BB has/ will have a monopoly on the android keyboard crowd, so this has the potential to be a very successful product.
I thought I was the only one who really missed having a keyboard. There was a time I wouldn't buy a phone unless it had a physical keyboard. Never owned a Blackberry, only carried one for work at times. But I never liked the BB OS/Interface because back then I was coming from Windows Mobile. I feel like original Droid was the last of the Android keyboard phones.
This BB could be a big hit. It seems as though they didn't cut corners on specs it also seems as though they made an effort to keep it thin. I'm sold but I won't sacrifice performance (specs) just to have a keyboard, and I don't want some thick clunky device either. That said...I hate phablets...they're too big for me. I already have a tablet, surface pro 4, and Razer notebook. I want my phone to be no larger than 5.1 - 5.2 in screen wise. They seemed to have checked that box as well. If the specs line up Snapdragon 808 - 810, 3GB Ram, 5.1 in display etc. The only thing they're missing is a better looking shell. I know BB is business-oriented, utilitarian-style, but damn BB you're bring out a device that needs to have mass appeal not just to business users but consumers. Hell your days of companies having BES severs are long gone. Corporate America isn't going to say...excellent BlackBerry is back. All new devices will be BlackBerry's that we assign instead of iPhones. Just like Windows Phone...too little too late. BB will never be the BB they used to be. So go ahead and start appealing to average consumers. Come out with killer phones try to compete with Samsung. Make a sexier looking Priv.
Does it look boring? Yes. My previous Copper Z3 and current Platinum Gold S6 Edge will run circles around it. I just hope the battery life is better than the S6 Edge, and the camera is at LEAST just as good. The S6 camera is amazing (but battery life blows). Z3 (amazing battery life, garbage camera).
My guess:
Camera will be adequate, not S6 good, but usable.
Battery life will be decent, and get better after a few months (blackberry hasn't made an android phone, so the battery life may not be optimized at first. If it sells well they may put enough resources into it to make it better)
The stand out takes will be the keyboard, and the integration with Blackberry devices (BBM, hub, enterprise).
The phone will do well, if they have good specs and market the phone correctly.

BTW- The Priv is pretty sleek. A guy on Reddit said he got to try it out and he says it's THINNER than his Note 5, which is 7.6mm thick. And for comparison, the new iPhone is 7.3mm thick.
At a conference I was at today, one of BlackBerry's executives had a 'Priv' which he let me play with for a bit. I must admit, it's a VERY nice device. It was actually thinner than my Note 5! It also seemed snappy and smooth, and the keyboard was also very nice. It had full access to the Play store as you would expect, and he had a few apps loaded. The screen was very nice with a high PPI, and it seemed to curvey around the edges. I have to say that I'm definitely interested in Blackberry again!

Rumoured pricing, $3999 RMB in China.
http://weibo.com/3889211823/CECSseD...1823_profile&wvr=6&mod=weibotime&type=comment
Straight up currency conversion gives $630 USD, $815 CAD. However, LG G4 was launched at the same price in China, and it launched in Canada at $700 CAD, US at $600, so I'm not sure.
If there's a bundle deal during Black Friday or drops down to $599 CAD (even better if there's a pricing error again like the Passport), I might pull the trigger.
There are new photo samples of the pre-leased software. Check out: http://crackberry.com/latest-priv-b...=slider&utm_campaign=navigation&utm_source=cb

The only thing about the physical keyboard is that there are two different keyboards. If I was to adjust to the onboard virtual keyboard and its layout, I feel like that would mess me up with the physical keyboard's layout. Not sure how this will affect me/anyone using this phone.

Maybe he meant width. Multiple sites are listing the Priv at 9.4 mm thick which seems more believable than sub-7.6 mm.
