[Q&A] Silent mode missing after 5.0 lollipop update on Galaxy S5? Now priority mode.
Edit: solution below (4th post). But be cerful for disabling your alarms.
<rant>
I have a Galaxy S5 SM-G900F. As a power user i need to factory reset my phone every half year to keep it running smooth. Since it was time for that anyway, i combined a fresh start with flashing the official polish 5.0 lollipop S5 rom (the updated one
PDA: G900FXXU1BNL7 ). It looks and works great. Ok, more blacks would work better with the amoled screen and it can easily take 2-3 seconds to open the task switcher, which is extra annoying if you have to also use it to jump to another browser tab. But i didn't find any major bugs and i generally love it. But one thing is driving me so crazy I'm considering going back to 4.x and staying there.
WHERE IS THE FRACKIN SILENT MODE?????
Sorry for the caps but that's kind of how i feel. Apparently it's not a bug but a feature. In vanilla, stock android on the nexus and moto g, you have to assign priority people or apps that can disturb you in priority mode. And then there's the "none" mode where your phone is completely silent. But those modes are not there in touchwiz. And people can't get their phones silent on other hardware too. Apparently Google will do a reintroduction of the feature in 5.1. But i don't know what that's worth. It will take ages for Samsung to incorporate and I'm starting to distrust google. With Google maps I'm still missing some features they cut out, such as measuring the direct distance between two points in the app. And they brought back writing to microsd cards with a special api, but i still can't edit word documents in any of the seven office apps I've tried (including several purchased ones).
</rant>
Anyway, I've tried everything i could think of to find silent mode:
* tap the vibrate/sound button in the quick toggles, it only switches between sound and vibrate, silent is gone
* long press power button: sound settings are removed from this menu
* go to settings - sounds and notifications: again there's only sound and vibrate mode. Silent mode is missing.
Please help me. The only workaround i found is to manually set all vibrates to really soft. But where is the silent mode? This is a feature that has been present in phones since before the wheel was invented. Did they really forget it? Or leave it out in purpose?

Thank you for replying but where can i find this priority mode?

remove me again sorry

Solution
Ok, found it. You mute your phone with priority mode, but that's rather hidden...
WARNING: your alarms will not go off of you set priority mode to none.
open the all toggles: swipe down from the top of your screen with two fingers (or swipe down once and tap the icon in the upper right with three squares and two arrows)
here you see a toggle called all. Set it to none for silent mode
tap the pen icon to edit the layout, long press the all/none toggle and drag it up to put it in your directly accessible toggles
you can go to the settings for priority mode by long pressing the toggle. You can also find it under sound&notifications - interruptions (not called priority mode!!!)

But I think that with "none" mode, even your alarm won't go!

This is not something implemented by Sammy, this is a Lollipop Google feature and sucks.

I had a widget for doing this and the App developer says that there is Nothing he can do
why they did this God Knows

what the heck is wrong with android developers nowadays? I hated this option.

At least silent mode will be back in 5.1

I am on EE and when I upgraded to Lollipop I lost this silient mode like everyone else did. My mate on Virgin also lost it but about a week later he received an update and he gained back this functionality.

There's now an XPOSED module for enabling native silent mode in lollipop
Sent from my SM-G900F

Silent mode is back in BOB7
Sent from my SM-G900F using XDA Free mobile app

I'm very confused by this "priority mode" thing. I would really like it simple....I can put my phone on silent at night and have my alarm go off, and still receive ALL notifications while I'm sleeping, but they're silent. Then during the day while I'm at work, leave it on silent, but receive all notifications. I really really don't like that no matter what, silent mode mutes all notifications and alarms. It seems like I have to have it on vibrate in order to have the alarm work. I've googled this so many times and read so many articles, but it still doesn't make sense. Also I couldn't care less what order the notifications are.

who install and active XPOSED module in Rom 5 ?please help me....

[Q] Disable increasing ringtone volume Galaxy S5 Active

This drives me nuts. Damn you Samsung for not leaving it as selectable feature but are forcing us to have it.
OK, so far I've tried these methods:
1. Wanam Xposed, there's an option in Phone section that says Disable increasing call ringer - it doesn't work on my phone, it's checkmarked and doesn't do the job, rebooted a few times with no luck
2. Apps from PlayStore - I've tried HandyPhone and Disable Increasing Ring, didn't like neither.
HandyPhone had that feature OFF by default, to achieve what I wanted I had to turn it on and set start volume and end volume to the same value, say 10. In this case lowering the ring volume from the phone did not work since HandyPhone was always applying same volume setting (10).
Disable Increasing Ring - this didn't work so well, it did the job but not clean cut, it was leaving empty spaces in the status bar between other notifications, etc.
I saw somewhere SecPhone.apk patched but not for Galaxy S5 (Active).
Have I missed another way that can do this?

Silent mode on Nexus 6 workaround

Hi there!
I know there are a few threads about it, BUT I thought as no one obviously knows about the workaround for putting the Nexus 6 in silent mode without the need of an app, I decided to make a seperate thread. It's working on Stock ROM, you don't have to be rooted.
This is how it works:
- Put the phone all the way down to vibrate with the volume down key
- Then tap once on the volume up key so you are on - lets call it "volume step one"
- Now reboot your phone
Congrats, silent mode is back! Unfortunately, you have to do it all over again, if you change the volume once...

Wait, am I missing something here?
Why not hit the volume button then select "none" from the options of "none, priority, all"?
Enters silent mode pretty easily for me!

I think what people liked about silent mode was it allowed Alarms through. "None" means no sounds or alarms. Priority mode with just Alarms set as priority isn't a workaround because some Apps can still emit sounds. The main problem with this new notification system aside from the fact that it eliminated a couple of real world use case scenarios is it is just flat out not intuitive.

I use Tasker, set media and ringtone to 0 alarms stay at 4, start at 7:00 workdays, end at 4:30 (silent mode except alarms) then volumes return to normal. Works like a charm, this way I don't have to remember to change the volumes when I get to work, or turn them up when I go home....

I use Tasker a lot too, and for many things. And I can't remember now, but what about vibration? I mean in "real" silent mode, vibration is off. If you only set media and ringtone to 0, does your phone still vibrate? I mean in Lollipop you can't even turn vibration off, right?
So my phone is on silent without vibration, so that only my G Watch R vibrates on calls and notifications, with alarms going off on the phone as usual...

That's correct, there currently is no silent, I did read that they were doing something with the sound settings in 5.1 but not exactly sure what that will look like. I am pretty sure you could get silent back some how if you were to root the phone but I am not ready to go there yet. Other than using a little battery I don't mind the vibration, as is I can get 2 days on a charge without too much effort.

Specifically for apps, you have to flag them as priority for their notifications to go through. Otherwise, in Sounds & Notifications settings you can specify "Priority Interruptions" which you can select system Events and reminders (alarms), Calls and Messages you want to go through.
I use it for meetings and class... so far it has yet to allow a notification that I haven't set to priority.

Still they all vibrate, right?
If your turn on priority mode, no apps will push notifications to you, unless you prioritize them.
None disabled everything.

Nope, no notifications even vibrate lol. Priority mode means, no notifications will wake the device or vibrate unless you prioritize them.

What the other poster probably meant is that apps can bypass Priority mode. This has been thoroughly documented, and according to Google it's "working as intended". Some apps have already fixed it, like Whatsapp, and very recently, FB messenger, but other big ones like Viber and Skype are yet to do it. It's a big nuisance that one has to depend on app developers to conform in order for such an important OS function to work correctly.

You can get the app Nights Keeper, it will do the old silent mode and more. The free version should be enough for simple silent mode, but the premium is only a couple bucks. The actionable notification and the widget are awesome. No root required.

App dedicated to enabling silent mode [Quest for a simple APK]

Dear XDA Community,
As you know thanks to touchwiz it is still possible to turn on silent mode on Android 6.0.
I have been searching the web for hours but could not find "a simple app that when launched turns on silent mode without the need to tap anything (like a widget)".
Can you tell me where to find such an app ? or create it for me ?
I would really appreciate it and I think it help other people facing the same issue.
You must be thinking why isn't he using a widget or an app with a button to tap or something like tasker for silent mode. Well that's because I don't like Tasker and use "Smart connect" instead but Smart connect has limited sound options (ring/vibrate/Do not disturb). However Smart connect allows you to launch an app automatically, so a workaround could be to launch this simple app automatically.
Why the following solutions won't work for me :
- Do not disturb mode
On samsung phones correct me if I'm but you can't set up more that one DND profile. The problem is I need silent mode when I'm at work where I can't accept any sound. On the other hand I use DND at night where I only allow calls (in case of emergency).
- Sound mode toggle widget
I want silent mode to turn on in a certain time period on weekdays. I don't want to have to press a widget every time. I don't even need a widget for that because I could tap on the quick setting in the notification menu.
- A tasker like app for sound modes
Would work but I don't like the idea to have several tasker like apps on my phone. I believe having multiple tasker-like apps triggers wakelock that would impact battery life and/or create wakelocks.

[N] - Notification help

Backstory: I don't use the stock android alarm clock because when I am half asleep I can't figure out what icon snoozes and what icon dismisses so I often dismiss my alarm and go back to sleep... no bueno.
Solution: I have always used circle alarm. It has features that I really like but is now due for a visual refresh.
Problem after Nougat upgrade: I have do not disturb modes setup for when I am sleeping. I tried to increase the notification permissions for the app to allow the alarm to go off but when I go to Settings > Apps > Circle Alarm > Notifications, the slider is disabled and says "App determines importance for each notification", so it is stuck on level 3. I have the setting "Override Do Not Disturb" enabled. Driving me crazy and have been late to work the last few days because of it SMH.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
when you go to its setting, tap on 'A' circle icon, it should then enable the slider.

I am an idiot. You are a genius. Cannot believe I didn't think to click that. Didn't even notice it was there to be honest lol. I blame it on the sender labels in gmail that serve no real purpose.
Worked like a charm though, thanks! Will test the alarm this weekend to see how it does
I actually found it by accident lol.
I had a notification that would cause an app to force close when it was set higher than the third slider. Just happened to hit it one day accidentally while adjusting.
/me shrugs.
Glad it helped you out!
Somewhat related note/question...
Has anyone on N had issues with Quick Reply specifically with Hangouts? All my other quick reply compatible apps works perfectly, but hangouts fails to send 70% of the time.

I am able to access the slider and change the settings. However, no matter which setting I apply I still have the peek notification on my screen. All of the other features of the slider work (lock screen behavior, sound, vibration, etc.). For some reason I cannot disable the peeking. At this point I am just curious if I am missing something. I can live with it as is, but just has my curiosity up. Thanks.
Press the "A" button to Edit the Importance level of Notofications. So intuitive, yet it would have taken me forever to figure this out. Thanks!

HTC U11 - Oreo 8.0 Buglist

I'm creating this thread to collect bugs found in the Oreo software that devs can take a look at for their ROMs, and possibly report to HTC depending on importance.
My first bug is cosmetic. The app icons are not consistent at all, and this goes further than the home screen launcher. If you hit the share button, the size of the icons vary, some big and some small.
My second bug is a little more annoying, and I'm not sure how to replicate. I was using Google Maps in and out of PiP mode (I drive Uber, so I come in and out of Maps constantly), and after some extensive switching, the PiP app wouldn't maximize, and my Recent Apps panel would not activate. The actual recents button could still activate multi-window, but it wouldn't cycle through the last two apps or activate the Recents carousel. The behavior returned to normal after a reboot. I am currently stock rooted, but I'm quite certain that has nothing to do with this issue. I will report if this happens again, and pay more attention to any possible causes. I might report this one to HTC.
My third bug is cosmetic, but a little on the annoying side. When switching Bluetooth audio profiles (found in dev options, for those who don't know), the codec that is displayed doesn't change, but you still hear the difference in audio. Also, aptx HD doesn't work for me. When selected, I hear no difference in the sound.
Ok....so my nav buttons are not working, but my home button is still working....am In the only one who is experiencing this? It is very sporadic, and fixes with a reboot.

PIP is not convenient to use now. For example, you can open youtube.com in chrome, request desktop site, play some video in fullscreen, press home button, then you get your PIP feature.
After update my battery reduction too much..
Maybe not exactly bugs, but a few things that bother me are how ugly the icons are and that it's using the default notification sound when I'm on low battery and it plays the notification sound coming in and out of night mode as well. I don't need to be notified with a sound about coming in and out of night mode and I'd prefer the regular buzz buzz sound of the low battery rather than thinking I got a message of something.
I hate the persistent notifications of things running in the background or drawing over... Not a bug, but a 'feature'.

Probably more a feature than a bug, but I miss being able to pull down the notification shade and toggling between Do Not Disturb, Priority Mode, and Normal. Now tapping the icon just turns on Priority Mode. I can't seem to find an easy way to turn on Do Not Disturb without long-pressing the icon. Does anyone else know a better way?

You can turn off the night mode notification. I set it to still show the icon in the top bar but not make a sound. It took a while to find, and I forget where it is. Maybe the notification settings for the system app.
When the screen is off and you double click the power button to access camera, it will not pop up with a preference choice (assuming you have more than one camera installed) unless you time it exactly with putting your fingerprint on the scanner
My shortcut options when you long press an icon are completely gone on every launcher.
Edit: Suddenly works. Odd.
My phone's bluetooth connects with my car's. Tried to play spotify But the audio plays on my phone still. My car sees th title of the song, just for display....Wasn't like this before the update... Must be the bluetooth 5.0 thing?
