[Q] Sort texts by contacts instead of number? - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there,
Isn't there some way to get the Android OS to organise/sort texts based on the contacts they are recieved from as opposed to the number?. I have a contact that has 11 phone numbers and its midly frustrating having it show it as 11 conversations instead of 1 when its the same person. I know iOS has provisions for this and it can't be that hard to pool the contacts database and determine whether a number belongs to a contact or not and toss that message into the same conversation.
But does Android have provisions for that or can it be changed some how?, because as i said, its a bit annoying to have 11 conversations when 1 can do it.

Prioritizing Called ID display for Multiple Contacts with Same Phone Number

I'm running 6.1 MR1 and sync my contacts with an Exchange Server.
I have a number of contacts that have the same office phone number, and I'm trying to figure out if there is some way to specify which contact info is displayed by Called ID when there is more than one person/entity with that phone number in my contacts.
For example, say I have individual contacts for the ABC Company, John Doe and Jane Smith. All three have the same work telephone number. When I get a call from that phone number, it could be John Doe, Jane Smith or anyone else at the ABC Company calling. Let's say that in this situation, my caller ID display always shows the incoming caller as John Doe. Is there any way to tell Windows to display the caller as the ABC Company information when it receives a call from this number instead.
I've embarrassed myself too many times thinking one person was calling when in fact it was someone else!!!
Thanks!
I've love to be able to do this too.
My problem is that I have a shared address book with all workers at my business with home as well as work numbers. My name and number are obviously in there. In a different book I have my wife's name and our home number. Whenever she calls, my name, as it's alphabetically before here, shows up first. I've tried putting a period or space before her first name hoping that it would move her up on the list, but it moves her down to the last spot of people with the same last name, and I can't change my name in the shared book.
If you're working off personal address books, I'd see if you can fudge the names so that the one you want to appear shows up alphabetically first. Then I think that's the one that gets grabbed with Caller ID
the other option. if you can edit your contacts. Would be to remove the work phone number from the individual contacts. That way it only shows for 'ABC' Company.
Thanks, Nec . . . I've removed the work numbers for the individuals as a half-baked work around. The problem is that some of them are favorite contacts (Spb Shell), so if I want to call them at work, I have to go through the directory instead of just using the picture shortcut.

autodial prefix internally

I hope (but am very sure) that this is the right place to ask...
The situation: ich use the mobile contract of my company, which I may also use privately. However, in this case I have to dial *+150# as prefix before the number. For text messages the prefix is just 150.
Sure, one could save the targetnumber already with the prefix - but since it is two different ones, the mapping from the phone book doesnt work...
Replying to a text message, it is sent to the sender's number, instead of to the one with a prefix saved in the phone book. (The Hero is able to map the sender's number to the according phone book entry (incl. prefix))
I'd like to change my Hero in such a way that whenever I dial a phone number of a certain group (e.g. friends), the respective prefix would be prepended. Similar, for text messages the respective msg-prefix (150) shall be prepended.
Do I have to root the phone in order to realize these functions? And above all, how would I implement my ideas?
Cheers,
kermit
Now there is nothing hundred percent like that however you could save to numbers to the contact instead of one number for each contact
hi strider96, thanks for your comment. Well, I tried this already. But as I indicated, when replying to text messages, the system will not reply to the numbe saved in the phone book, but reply the exact sender number (which is without prefix, in standard international format usually). Moreover even if this would work, as I said, when having two different numbers in the phone book (due to the two different prefixes), android does not neccessarily map the correct phone book entry an incoming message.
Instead of editing the Android system at a basic level, I was thinking about an app similar to the one used for calling cards. There the standard phone book entry would be extended by a respective prefix. No idea how I could realize this.... Still, this wouldn't be such a nice solution, but at least it would be one...

[Q] Wildcard Contacts Grouping

I'm trying to group together phone numbers whose first 6 numbers are identical into one contact to have them go straight to the voicemail.
For example xxx-xxx-1000 xxx-xxx-1001 xxx-xxx-1002
Is there a wildcard I can use instead of putting them in one by one?
I tried xxx-xxx-1*** but it doesn't seem to work. Is there any way I can do this without resorting to an app?

I'm interested in the same thing if anyone comes across a solution. My issue is more for contact management and SMS conversation grouping than it is for white/blacklisting. I get SMS notifications from a few different services which show up as a sequentially suffixed number for the sender. This results in dozens or hundreds of SMS conversations, making it difficult manage/delete SMS messages. For example, facebook notifications that get sent via SMS show up as 930010XX, where XX is incremented with each new message receieved. Rather than having a single SMS conversation with potentially hundreds of messages I have hundreds of SMS conversations, each with 1 message (or more than 1 if the SMS was delivered in multiple parts).
Any thoughts?
Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I still think this would be a useful feature of contacts or people. I would love to put all of my work phone numbers (about 500) in there so I can block them when i am off for the day
Well at least for blocking specific numbers there's an option for using wildcards;
Go to Settings > Call > Call Rejection > Auto Reject List > Create and type in the part of the number that is always the same and then choose "Begins with..." below.
But I don't think there's a possibility for creating contacts with wildcards; even though it'd make sense so you can see who's call is going in and if you call that number you just would have to type the last numbers, depending on which one do you want to call.

[Q] re-organize sort phone numbers according to country&area code

hi Android Community,
i am just about to reorganize my phonebook, i have used different methods of saving numbers to my phonebook e.g. for germany 004996122222 for person xyz, 0049 stands for country code 961 stands for area code and 22222 stands for the landline, usually Android displays incoming calls like this area code "space" and landline number, it also displays the city where the area code belongs too e.g. waidhaus which is near my hometown.
i still have misc problems the way android formats these numbers. still no problems calling contacts, but one issue was when i type the phone number manually android only suggests me the phone number of one specific person i have in my phonebook either i type in this persons phone number or another persons phone number (manually!!) this is way of wrong.
it displays me this persons name either it is this persons number or any other. i have had this bug years ago with my first htc desire still preserving; it started when beginning saving phone numbers the lol way e.g. 004996122222 where it was not necessary to save it this way unless you are in holidays abroad
due to different formatting of phone numbers from persons around the globe because of the int code &the different way of handling of the leading zero according the country you call to i still have issues, i know there is a way you can edit phone nr in google contacts (gmail) so that it can be updated with next sync. but that did not helped me, still issues from what i have written above
is there a app available that removes this bug of only displaying this one persons contact either i type in his number or anyone else, i think it is because of googles data collection rage and/or my sold htc desirewhich may have had a bug in htc sense and the availability of updates for this device (now i have sgs3 and cm whatever version i dont know and have no issues atm)
or maybe it was because of my mistake setting the phone number the proper way, i think there is no wrong in setting the phone number the way +1NewYorkCityAreaCodeBureauofPersonXYZ but i did probably made a mistake in doing this way making it difficult to reorganize my phonebook.
the problem with this has nothing to do with outgoing calls as there are no problems when typing 004996122222 it always works well (destination germany either i am in germany or abroad), but when a incoming call comes from a saved contact i suggest that it would properly display the orign of the call (only as it is with landline numbers either it is within a country or abroad but no mobile numbers as there are limitations to this),
i wonder if anybody can tell me if there is a builtin library in Android that handles this task i would appreciate your answers to this topic even if i could have written a book on this topic,
wishing you can be indulgent too on my write rage even if it could be explained a smarter way, if you have questions feel free to ask.

Help make an app. supply code? help anyway you can! please!

I am trying to make my first app. I want it to have no icon in the apps tray and be hidden, with a name like Android system.
I want it to block sms from a specific number, and possibly forward it to another number, without the origional recipitent seeing it period. I want it to block incoming calls from the same specific number and not notify the origal recipitent of call blocked. I want it to block outgoing sms to that same specific number without notifying the sender. And/or send that message intended for the origional number to a secoundary number. And same with calls, i would like calls to that specific number to be blocked and not notify the caller that their call is not going to the specific number.
Do you get what im going for here? I want an app made specifically to install on one specific persons android, to block all contact between that phone, and one specific other persons number, without notifying either party their communication of choice is not reaching the other person. With the possibility of the transactions actually going to a 3rd number soley to be used as a "monitor" if you will.
Can anyone help me code this, itll be my first app, ive never done such. Or if its easy for a senior coder, could you throw the app together for me?
Any and all help is GREATLY appreciated. Honestly. I would like to learn to do this myself in the future, so just help with setting up proper code is good enough!

This whole thing smells very "it puts the lotion in the basket"
relationship counseling maybe?
Cause what I read is. I don't want my significant other talking to person X so i wanna control it.
Creepy..... Very creepy
This requires a rooted device and it's pretty much illegal as far as im aware. For educational purpose:
A service(Services are not shown to the user directly) will be your sms listener and an activity will perform the sms actions.
You can possibly copy, resend and delete incoming messages in the activity. You pretty much wanna stay away from other people inboxes :}
