[Q] Can't go through boot animation in any rom - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, I had Lollipop 5.0 and I did stock rom flash in Nexus Root Toolkit to install 5.0.1, everything went smoothly and it started to boot, I waited for more than 20 minutes. Then I decided to do it again and it was really hard to get into fastboot, I had to disconnect the battery and try for some more time. When I finnaly get into fastboot mode I have tried reinstalling 5.0.1, installing 5.0, 4.4.4 and even Cyanogen's last nightly. With any of those I had no luck as it is stuck with boot animation.
Some googling told me about people who did fastboot oem lock and it booted up, just tried that with no luck also.
One very important thing, when I get into fastboot mode, I can only select Start in the device itself, clicking volume up or down doesn't give me any other option.
Edit: I even downgraded Nexus Root Toolkit from 1.9.9 to 1.8.2 thinking it was the problem, no luck. And tried to install Lollipop manually a couple of times. And the problem trying to get into fastboot mode keeps happening.
Thank you all in advance

And now that I tried to lock the bootloader I can't unlock it again because when I go to fastboot mode I can only press start, pressing the volume keys doesn't do anything. What can I do to unlock the bootloader ? I think I'm stuck in here because I can't do anything else without it unlocked.
Edit: It didn't work to boot the system also
I really need some help here

so your volume down key is working when you're entering bootloader mode, but after "fastboot oem unlock" command you can't choose "YES" with the same volume down key ?

All my keys are working just fine, I can easily boot into bootloader (I was doing Power + Volume Down when I should push Power + Volume Down + Volume UP) but when I get into bootloader/fastboot (I don't know which one is the proper name) I can't do anything but press the Power button, meaning that I can only choose START. When I do the fastboot oem unlock command I can't press Volume UP or Down to choose Yes.
I followed this tutorial (http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/general/tutorial-how-to-unbrick-n4-t2347060) with no luck aswell, I finnaly got into the system, but I can't unlock the bootloader because of the Volume keys problem. I also noticed that even when I'm into the system from that tutorial, which is Jelly Bean btw I still can't use the volume keys.
Basically, phone only recognises volume keys when it's off and I press to go into bootloader or download mode.

Connect the phone to the cmd terminal on the pc and type: adb reboot recovery. You should have platform-tools from android sdk installed.

I had to use flashboot over USB to upload CWM, then CWM protected itself and re-enabled root, I didn'tevn have to reflash super-su.
- get he recovery image recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.2.3-mako
- flash it from bootloader:
- extract fastboot from the sdk (I extracted the whole sdk)
- restart phone while holding power+vol down (keep vol don pressed after release sing power)
- run "fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.2.3-mako.img" on your PC
- after selecting reboot it gave me the option to protect he recovery and resinstall super-su
- the right verison of super-su was already installed by CWM so I didn't even need to reflash UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.04.zip

By the way, for me it took a few tries to get it to work - I was pressing, pressing but nothing was happening but it finally worked.
So to the OP, if it doesn't recognize you pressing the two buttons the first time - try again until it works.

Phone will not boot into recovery or bootloader

I can't seem to boot into recovery or bootloader.
I have unlocked the bootloader and rooted. I have purity rom installed, and have TWRP recovery installed.
I had this problem a few days ago but I was able to turn the phone off then hold both the up/down volume with the power button to get into bootloader, then from there I was able to choose recovery and get into TWRP. Mysteriously after I did that I could then enter recovery directly.
So now here are my symptoms. I cannot boot into recovery or bootloader directly through the ROM, or by using GOO.im.
If I power down and then use volume + power button, it powers up normally.
Also, even though I had trickster setup with custom settings and had it to "set on boot" those settings are all gone.
Last thing is that when I was able to get into bootloader last week I noticed the setting "secure boot - enable"
Any suggestions?
Update, I could have sworn I had installed ROM Manager, but it wasn't there. I installed it and used it to boot into recovery... Well it worked, now I'm able to get to recovery (TWRP). And I got back into the bootloader as well.
So I'm ok for now, but this is going to happen again I'm sure
your issue is that youre doing it wrong, its power button + volume DOWN to get into the bootloader.

Thanks, that's one issue out of the way... manual bootloader solved.
Now the issue of not being able to boot into recovery or bootloader through rom and settings getting wiped.

what do you mean through the rom? do you have a terminal emulator installed? try this..
su(press enter)
reboot recovery(press enter)
if this works fine, then its your rom at fault. dont use rom manager, that app will eventually cause you more grief then its worth. if you long press the power button, then press reboot, does it give you an option to boot into recovery/bootloader? and what do you mean settings get wiped?

Ok, so by "through the rom" I mean long-pressing power and then using that option to either boot into bootloader or recovery.
by settings getting wiped, I mean settings for the kernel, like custom color settings, vibrate strength settings, etc.
I won't be able to properly test your theory with the terminal emulator because I fixed the problem for now. I can now enter recovery using the long-press power button option.
I have read that sometimes a recovery won't "stick" sometimes if the "secure boot" is set to enable (You can see this at the bottom in bootloader screen). Maybe I need to disable this?

if you flash recovery via fastboot, it always sticks(unless you use fastboot boot instead of fastboot flash, then itll just boot it once). if you flash it with an app/toolkit, then it might disappear and need to be flashed again.

I used adb to flash it originally, I will flash it again tonight through adb.
though when my problem occurs I don't think the recovery is gone, I think that for some reason it can't be reached by long-pressing the power button.
The first time this happened to me I was able to go into bootloader manually, then I went to recovery from there.. .then booted into system. After that I was able to boot into recovery from long-press power.

Problems booting into recovery

Okay, to start with, I've read the other threads about this. I understand the process that *should* work:
1. Power off.
2. Then, press and hold both all Volume Down + Power buttons at the same time until the LG Logo is being displayed on your LG V20.
3. Now, release the keys and press the above combination again however, this time you should wait until recovery mode menu is displayed.
...and I've tried the version where you keep holding the Volume Down button the entire time.
So, yes, I've reached the white screen where it asks you if you want to do a factory reset. I've hit "Yes" to both questions. The problem is that it really does a factory reset then.
---
After unlocking the bootloader, I installed TWRP via fastboot:
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
fastboot reboot
...everything went fine.
But I can't get into recovery. And since I'm waiting to have TWRP working so that I can flash root, I can't boot into recovery via an app.
What did I do wrong?
EDIT:
Okay, it looks like TWRP isn't working properly. I tried "adb reboot recovery" and that got me to a dead Android icon and a "No command" message. I have no idea why TWRP isn't working.

to confirm, have you verified you are using the correct TWRP version for your V20?
in this step "fastboot flash recovery twrp.img" is your twrp image that you saved, named twrp.img? If its not, that command won't work correctly.
usually after I flash recovery, when still in the recovery menu, i choose reboot recovery just to make sure it did stick. If it reboots back to itself, then try rebooting the device, and again confirm with manually entering recovery. Maybe overkill but it works for me LOL.
Good luck!
I am in need of big help! I made a critical error after days of trying to navigate the minefields of rooting my device. I have a LG V20 h910 and it is no one-click wonder root. It made me work for it and I finally got it. I loaded LineageOS 14.1 and all was good until the USB OTG cable from my PS4 controller did not register anymore. Damn, that was a let down, and probably led to my careless move of needing to downgrade my TWRP, saw the version I needed, forgot these are device specific, and now I'm stuck in a hard place.
Perhaps the fix is easy, but I have not found the answer after many, many searches...
I had TWRP 3.2.1-2 and needed to downgrade to 3.2.1-0 to try SuperRom (hoping it would have OTG ability). I hastily grabbed the first TWRP 3.2.1-0, threw it on the SD card, wiped everything except internal storage, and flashed the img, and did a reboot. Road block went up.
I tried getting back into recovery, did the PWR and DOWN pressing combo and got the Factory Reset screen, but after clicking "Yes" to both, instead of getting the TWRP screen, I got this error screen (attached).
I tried another idea - hooked it up USB to my PC and tried accessing it via adb/fastboot. I tried multiple drivers for my device, but no adb and no fastboot devices were ever found. The only thing that almost worked was booting phone into FASTBOOT mode by holding DOWN btn and plugging in a USB cable attached to PC. Once in FASTBOOT mode, My PC at least saw the ID for fastboot device. I tried to flash TWRP via fastboot, and it looked like it would happen, but in the end there was no phone screen response to my attempt, and the cmd window on my PC would get stuck and just hang.
Can someone please advise me on how I can fix this problem?

i have literally the same problem and i can't get out of this!
sony didn't make the update for xperia c4 to start automatically, so i flashed marshmallow 6.0 in this device.
And now, i can't get in recovery mode, i used a tons of guides, i try to do it with codes on sdk, on sony's flashtool(emma), on adb, it's totally useless i think there isn't a way to get the recovery mode on xperia c4 with marshmallow 6.0.
Sony, wtf?
no one?
Any helps?.. it is really impossible to root this phone?
same problem here too.. need help

Search for stock recovery or TWRP recovery .img file on web. ( Remember, Google is your friend! ) Rename it to recovery.img and put it into the adb folder. Then, open a command prompt there ( as admin ) then type: cd <directory to adb folder> e.g. cd C:\adb then boot into fastboot mode or bootloader and then type: fastboot flash recovery recovery.img . Now it should flash a new recovery to your recovery partition.
P.s. You need to unlock your bootloader! But you need to backup your files cuz this is going to delete them!!! Go to setings> slide down> click on about your phone> click 7 times on build till you see a message like: "You are a developer!"> then click back button> go to "Developer settings"> and find an option called: "Oem Unlock." toggle it> Then go to fastboot mode or bootloader mode and in fastboot type: "fastboot oem unlock" or "fastboot oem go-unlock" then click "Yes" when prompting. BUT you can also boot in edl mode and flash it without unlocking bootloader. To do this, try power combinations, or go on google and search for them. It may also happen that you don't have an EDL mode, so you'll have to unlock the bootloader. So: What you have to do.
1. If you have a locked bootloader, unlock it.
2. Get a recovery image ( img. ).
3. Flash it!
Well that's it! Hope you understand me! Happy flashing!

[HOW TO] TicWatch E2/S2 Open Fastboot/Recovery + Unlock/Lock Bootloader + TWRP

Hello guys, I have a Ticwatch E2 and today i softbricked it and i cannot find how to open fastboot or recovery mode directly from watch not from adb (adb reboot bootloader etc.)
so i was checking some websites and then i found how to open bootloader on LG G Watch R so i tried it and it worked
So here is How to Open Fastboot mode
Turn off the watch and then turn it on normally OR Press and hold Power button for about 10 sec. to reboot it.
Keep holding power button and wait for TICWATCH logo to appear on screen.
Start tapping the screen with two fingers, one on the top left and one on the bottom right ,while pressing and holding the power button

So now you are in fastboot mode, short tap to power button changes option and holding power button selects option.
Also here is how to open Recovery Mode
Do the exact steps to enter Fastboot, after entering fastboot short press power button to change option and find Recovery Mode,
Then press and hold power button to select it.
Watch will reboot and recovery mode should open, if you stuck at Android Robot and recovery menu is missing,
Just press and hold power button an swipe screen up and release power button, menu should appear.
swipe up / down and left/ right to use recovery mode.
How to Unlock Bootloader Lock
Warning! All data will be wiped after unlocking bootloader.
Open Fastboot Mode and put your watch on the charging dock, connect it to pc and open command prompt then type
"fastboot oem unlock" and there will be some warning appears on cmd then type the same command again to unlock bootloader.
How to ReLock Bootloader Lock
Warning! All data will be wiped after unlocking bootloader.
Open Fastboot Mode and put your watch on the charging dock, connect it to pc and open command prompt then type

then type "fastboot boot twrp_ticwatchE2-S2.img" to boot twrp.
Warning! Use it carefully.
MTP DOESNT WORKS use adb shell, adb pull or adb push commands.
I got my hands on a cheap Ticwatch S2 and i asking myself, what is the benefit of TWRP/root on a smartwatch?
I mean, ok i can make backup in TWRP or flash things, but it seems that there is no custom rom for this model, so root seems to be the only thing to achieve. But what can I do with root on a smartwatch?
