Damn messed up the title lol. If a mod could change that to LTE-A

So that is in PA
BAD ASS NOTE 4

Been hitting 60+ in sw Houston area. 80 max. But consistently 30+ easily the last few days. Used to be 15-30 maxing out out at 40.

Southeast Hou. Im at 13-14

Honolulu here. 34mb DL. 12MB UL.

I live in Anaheim California which is on the list but am only getting 28.33 Download & 3.50 Upload, no difference from what I was getting when the Note 4 first came out

i would think this would help more with consistent speeds vs everyone getting higher speeds. Im sure if you are connected to the wideband lte you would see higher speeds during non peak hrs but i can definitely tell the difference in peak hours vs non peak hrs in ABQ NM. Ive seen as low as less than 1mbps down due to congestion and no, i wasnt throttled. Around 11pm, my speeds would jump up. It basically forced me to use my wifi at home due to such low speeds. Hopefully the wideband increase will help clear up congestion as the faster people load/download their data...the faster they can get through the pipeline allowing for a smoother flow. Considering youtube would stop qrtr way through the video due to buffering... i would hope this would fix some of those types of issues.

How do we know we are using LTA? Do you get a symbol on the phone? If so what does it look like? Screenshot maybe?

This is what I'd like to know as well. According to "LTE Discovery" I'm on Band 4 right now. The linked page shows that my city should be LTE-A active. My speeds haven't changed even a little. Mid-teens down, a handful up.

I was in Boston last week and was getting 70 mb down and 26 mb up.

Getting 62/22 in Metro Detroit on Band 4.

66 down and 27 up in bronx, new york. Will check the city when I get back to work Saturday. They should be faster there.

In Indianapolis, lte has stopped yesterday morning. Maybe they are updating our network. Can't wait.

The highest i got in Queens NY was 67/22 and 50/23 in Long Island.

Just type *#0011# in the dialer. When it is conection to band 12 you are on wideband.
Sent from my SM-N910T using Tapatalk

Do you have to update modems or something to get it? I've been rooted since new and never took any of the updates.
I haven't seen anything other than band 4 locally.
This is the best I've done in town, but only the downtown area gets 4 bars. I'm usually 2 or less around most of the town.. This is versus what I typically get around my house.

When you go into the service menu by dialing *#0011# on the first line you will see Band 4 BW: 15MHz. When you have a connection of 15, or 20MHz you are using wide band lte.

This is correct. This is like a 4 lane highway instead of a single lane. This also includes the lowband spectrum 700mhz it baught from Verizon which is band 12. Band 12 is what travels far and through buildings. You might even get signal in an elevator because of it.

yep, same here in chicago land, getting 40 down and 20 up, in the basement of my house!

[q] hspa+ speeds

I'm in Dallas where hspa + is already available, but using three speed test app the fastest download speed I've been able to get is about 2.5 mbs.
I just got the mytouch, but this seems to be slower than what I've seen reported. Anyone having similar issues, or know of a possible fix in the settings?

i wish the mt4g had a icon for 4g. i tried it in ontario where they claim to have 4g, but was only able to get a max download/upload speed of 3/2mb.
Same in Houston. 3meg is the fastest I've been able to get

I've been getting 2-3 Mbps tops in Boston, a supposed HSPA+ city, though I haven't tried all over town or in Cambridge. But I was in Chicago last week and topped 7 Mbps in one location. So I just think it varies widely with exact location. Probably all it takes to call a city HSPA+ is a few cell towers with peak theoretical speeds of 14 or 21 Mbps or whatever.

Well, seems it' still not quite up to snuff in Houston. Best I've been able to get is 3.94 Mbps down (I saw that kind of speed on my 3g Vibrant).
After some phone calls and other investigations, I am thinking that their "4g" network isn't as all encompassing as the coverage map shows.
Accessing the testing menu, I can see that I am on either UMTS or HSDPA network, both of which are 3g (according to Tmo tech support).
So, just to make sure my phone wasn't the problem (was already refreshed on the network a couple of time by tech support and even did a master reset) I went down to a Tmo store that was shown to be in 4G coverage area and checked out a MT4G and G2. Neither of them showed connection to HSPA ot HSPA+.
So, dissappointing for sure, but I guess the phone was free (replaced my Vibrant) I can't complain.
You can call tech care with your speed test results and we submit a ticket to have engineers check it out. It's at least worth a try.

Contacted tech support this morning and they are supposed to check out the problem in a wide area.
My wife gets her MT4G Wednesday, so I will have another phone to go by. Obviously if hers sees the HSPA/HSPA+ network and mine doesn't I'll know it's my phone or a setting of some sort within.
I guess it just bugs me since the MYT4G and G2 I checked out also display 3g network connectivity in what is supposed to be 4g coverage area.
I'm in Salt Lake City where the coverage map shows 4g. I have gotten 3 to 4 Mbps speeds before 5 am. However, during the day, I'm getting around 2 mbps or less. My big problem is the coverage. When it drops from H to E, the browsing locks up. It:s like I get 3/4G or nothing. Has anyone else experienced this?
My AT&T Captivate runs almost as fast on 3G networks during the day, but it even gets just under 200 kbps on E. What gives? One of my employees has the MT4G also and find that E doesn't work either.

Going through the build.prop files, I notice in all of the CM builds, that the throughput settings seem to be inaccurate. I can only assume this is because all phones they build for aren't HSPA+ compatible. I'm no expert (as wikipedia is my source here) but according to T-Mobile's HSPA+ specs, we're to achieve up to 21mbps download and 5.7mbps upload on their network. In the build.prop files for the MT4G, our ro.ril.hsdpa.category is set to 8. According to Wikipedia, this category should be set to 14 and at a minimum 10. I say 10 because i'm quite unsure of the MT4G's radio capability and documents I've read seem to suggest the G2 (similar to MT4G) is only capable of max download speeds of 14.4 mbps (which is category 10). However, setting category 14 doesn't seem to impede download speeds, so I set mine to that- just in case. On the flip-side, the ro.ril.hsupa.category is set at 6, which seems to be correct in supporting our max theoretical upload speeds of 5.7mbps. There are other factors that have to be considered as well, such as how many users are connected to a tower at any given time. HSDPA/HSPA+ is a shared data-link, much like your home internet connections. At home, I average between 2 and 4mbps downloads. There are times (usually REALLY late at night or early in the morning) where i've seen 8mbps and once 11mbps download speeds. I'm not quite sure I would have seen these speeds with my ro.ril.hsdpa.category set to 8 as it is in CM because that would indicate a cap in download speeds of 7.2mbps.
Then again, I could be completely wrong and none of this means anything. Just food for thought.

Just so you know just BC the tower is within 30 feet doesn't mean its faster. Actually it will probably be slower; think of the tower as just the placeholder the signal is focused outward and doesn't beam down beside it BC usually nothing is right under it. When I had Verizon there was a tower on my roof at my apt but I had no signal directly below.

AT&T has always had a subpar network in California, it's due to the fun little regulations over there. They do try to improve it, but as they free up more of their limited spectrum they do have available over there you will see better speeds.

Check about phone > status and make sure you are getting an hspa+ connection. Check it when the mobile network is active and data is transmitting because it will drop down to regular hspa while idle. Also, in order to get DC-HSPA (which is required for 42mbps) it has to be available in your area. Not a lot of markets have it yet.
I get anywhere from 15-22 Mbps here in NY and that's with the $30 plan.

I am getting hspa+:15 in the settings with speed test running in the background. What does that mean? 42mbps? Speed tests 6-7mbps at best with 1sec latency! Latency is worse than what I had on hspa 14 on the Samsung exhibit ii.
I am in Philadelphia. I thought we got hspa+ 42 a long while ago here. Although the network seems to always be congested here, often coming to a complete halt, forcing me to go to edge to send and receive emails.
[EDIT]: I think I was wrong on HSPA+ 42 being available in Philadelphia. We're still on 21. According to an article on android central we will get HSPA+ 42 on the 1900Mhz band here instead of 1700Mhz AWS. HSPA+ category 15, which is what the reading in the settings are showing, refers to HSPA+ 21 ... so no DC-HSPA here ... I hope the upgrades come soon, and take care of the congestion issues around the busy parts of the city during the day. It's stupid to have a smart phone that cannot even send an receive emails !
Here in Charlottesville, VA (where HSPA+ 42 is supposedly available), I am getting less than 512 kbps down with over 1000 ms ping. This was in an area that indicated HSPA+:15.
Did I get a phone with a bad radio? Or just a location thing?

I've never seen 3G pop up on my Nexus 4. Strange. Either way, I guess my terribly slow speeds are a result of being in Central VA.
it is to save battery life it sits on idle afaik on 3g until you call up 4g - there is a post on it on the qa forums.

20 or so. Not too happy about it either.
Is band 2 faster than band 4? Is it one or the other or does the phone pair them together?

In some cases I'm getting less than 1M on the moto x pure and the other phones are 20M+. It could be the towers are different but seems unlikely given the area's I've tested. I'm off to NJ, NYC and Austin, TX this week so it'll be a nice test to see if the issue is isolated to just Columbus or generally overall with the Pure/AT&T.

North Jersey here and I'm only getting about 6 with Verizon...
The specs say that the phone supports 4G LTE† (B1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 13, 17, 25, 26, 38, 41).
I am coming from a WiMax phone that is supposed to end in Novermber 2015.
The main reason I purchased this phone is because my understanding is that carriers are in the process of switching over to LTE Channel 17 because it does a much better job with both range and building penetration. This is one of the few phones in my budget that had band 17.
I know 17 isn't everywhere yet, but should be coming soon to your area.
Well after I worked with Verizon today, turns out that moving your nano sim from an iPhone just gives you basic LTE speeds. Once my new one was setup I was clocking 50mbps download speeds.

My LTE speeds on Verizon have been pretty ridiculous.

Damn where the hell are you from?
I got the fastest I've ever gotten this week:
66 Down
13 up
On At&t
A little bit later the up was a little slower, but went ahead and did a speed test so I could save the results.
I'm using straight talk on att towers and My speeds do seem slower then on my nexus 5. I'm getting around 12 max down and 3-5up when it used to be closer to 20-30 down and 15up. I did get cut SIM card but I don't think that's the issue. I've tried to use a different pan but it did not work, I think the pan was wrong for my sim.

Just a bit of a correction:
Band 17 is used by AT&T, and is in the 700MHz range. They also operate on Bands 2, 4, and 5 for increased bandwidth in cities.
Band 13 is used by Verizon and is also in the 700MHz range. They operate Band 4 for increased bandwidth in cities, and Band 2 LTE is being refarmed from Verizon's older 1x CDMA signal in some areas.
Band 12 is being rolled out by T-Mobile now. Like the above, also in the 700MHz range. Same situation as Verizon: Band 4 in cities, Band 2 in rural refarmed areas. Before TMO rolled out B12, B4 was their primary band, so it's currently more built out than B12, but B12 has greater range.
Sprint is the odd one out, whose lowest LTE band is in the 800MHz range (Band 26), while their primary band is way up in the 1900MHz range (Band 25).
Basically, no carriers are starting to switch to Band 17, because AT&T has been using it for ages (already built out), and the other carriers have their own low-frequency bands to work with. The range and building penetration has to do with the frequency used: 700MHz, which 3 of the 4 major carriers are riding on (17, 13, 12).

[EDIT]
It seems in some areas, my signal is triple strength (as shown in my post above).... But sitting in my office this morning, I usually get 22-28mbs down (and have for the last 2 years) and I'm only getting 10mbs. I wonder if it works better off a certain band that older towers don't have?
