re-compiled power.shamu.so to re-enable double tap to wake. (no root required) - Nexus 6 General

This solution works for anyone that doesn't want to root their device.
however required a unlocked boot loader.
you can use TWRP file manager to replace below files. (hence not needing root).
(or someone can kindly create a flashable)
I have recomplied the power.shamu.so (replacing the missing codes from https://android.googlesource.com/device/moto/shamu/+/2084f7d0cf50baf394759d175bc28ad80cf7cace^!/ )
What this does is also re-enable the double-tap to wake.
to use,
backup a copy of
/system/lib/hw/power.shamu.so
then copy the attached power.shamu.so to /system/lib/hw/
change the permission of power.shamu.so to 0644
then boot your device. volia... you now have double tap to wake again.
Note. this has been tested with my own nexus 6.

Thanks. I think this would be better in themes n apps section though.

Thank you Sir! I'm going to remove the app and try this on Elix-R!
EDIT: Works great! Thank you again.

Thanks that's what I thought I just wanted to make sure

Can I just flash the zip file that's in the beginning of the thread? Also would I need to re-install after wiping and flashing different roms or will it stay?
Figured it out.

You can do it from recovery which has system access even if the ROM doesnt have root privileges.
What I am wondering though is if you can use fastboot to simply boot recovery without flashing it, and would you be able to do that command without unlocking the bootloader? Or does booting a custom system file require it to be unlocked?

Idea is just like rooting.
You need to some how replace the power.shamu.so once, and thats it.
Some people dont like phones to be rooted, as some software are really particular with root such as 'good for ent' or banking app. Idea is so that these people can still have doible tap to wake.
Hence you require a unlocked boot loader.
Eg, i guess i can also repack the file to a flashable zip, then user can just flash from recovery.
Note, i found that your tap needs to be quite consistant (can't be too fast or slow. There is a specific window)

Just got Xoom WiFi tonight, let me know what I can do to help out the xoom wifi community.
I am curious. How were you able to extract the stock system dump image for the wifi version? Could you put down instructions since I am trying to learn these things.
Just a quick heads up. Moto was handing out DMCA notices on sysdumps. You may wanna save it for those who make it to #xoom on freenode.

2 & 4 Going to try the same method that was used for Droid2 and DroidX. Create module for OC. I have not had time yet to look at kernel but I see someone is already creating kernels so should be able to do it from kernel with multiple settings; not sure if kernel behaves same way as it does in Droid.
3 Not sure if bootstrap (clockwork recovery) is available yet for Xoom WiFi but if it is just make a backup before you mod anything.
Not sure what you are talking about with 5 and 6 ... I am a Xoom noob, only been out of box for a couple of hours

Thanks Angdroid for the system dump. I downloaded a copy of the system dump for kicks. I will keep it on my hard drive in case anyone loses it and needs a backup copy.
Hopefully we can create a stock boot.img soon for us wifi owners in case something goes wrong or need to return it to factory state. It looks like from the system dump we have access to the stock bcm4329.ko wifi driver.

Do you think it's possible to extract languages in Wifi firmware to flash 3g xoom?
Or flash with entire wifi firmware?
I don't think the adb pull way is the best way at it.
Creating an actual image using dd will retain symlinks and mod perms (not owners).. but it also won't dump a bunch of tiny >1kb files on your computer (whose cluster size may be over 4kb).. plus you can mount it as a loop device..
adb shell
# busybox dd if=/dev/block/platform/sdhci-tegra.3/by-name/system of=/mnt/sdcard/system.img
and then if you want
adb pull /mnt/sdcard/system.img
but I wouldn't.. just using the mtp interface is faster..

What do you mean? are you talking about the ./system/vendor/firmware/fw_bcm4329.bin
I just compared the two system images for both devices
fw_bcm4329_mfg.bin is the only file with a matching checksum..
I gotta run.. otherwise i'd check the version with a hex editor..
I doubt you're talking about the wifi firmware anyways..

can someone post the 3.1 wifi-model USA system
(i need build.prop)

Got Sky go working on Tablet Z

Not sure if this is of interest to anyone but I managed to get Sky go working by side loading the apk and making one change to the build.prop.
change the following in build.prop
ro.product.model=SGP312
to
ro.product.model=C6603
You will also need to temporarily unroot device while using Sky go (You can remove and restore root without restarting tablet).
I used hide my root to hide the su binary and then uninstalled superuser.

The sky go zip replaces the build.prop with a sky friendly version, the other zip puts the original build.prop back in place. You'll need a recovery to use the zips.
Btw the build.props the zips are based on are from a SGP312

Even if VZW fixes Hot Spot, there is a Tether patch available that will allow the hot spot to bypass the subscription check. Runandhide05 made up a .zip yesterday for the N2 running 4.3 and it works flawless.
Does this zip work for non-root, or only rooted N3s?

I took the ota with root survival mode checked on the Super su pro app and kept root just fine..I first unistalled xposed and modules, defrosted the bloat I had froze with titanium, checked ota survival mode with Super SU Pro (Paid Version) while keeping root enabled, Rebooted, took OTA and it works fine while maintaining root.....to early to notice any improvements but I have notice spell checker is enabled on the Samsung keyboard...+1!

Modded it already, its been tested and confirmed working by open1your1eyes0. Download here
you have to rename it to framework-res.apk.
Edit: I assume you know you have to either flash this with a zip or copy it to /system first then change its permissions to rw-r--r-- (chmod 644) and then MOVE it to /system/framework and overwrite framework-res.apk (remember must rename N3-framework-res.apk to framework-res.apk prior to this step)
Simply copy and pasting will cause you to boot loop so instead move it to /system first and change the permissions then and only then move it to /system/framework/ and overwrite the original

Unable to convert apps to system (GalaxyA8 Sm-a800i)

Hey guys, i quite unfortunately own a galaxy a8 (a800i). It has almost no dev support. After rooting my phone, i tried converting an app to system(through limk2sd). It did but when i rebooted my phone the app disappeared! Had to manually locate the system files (yes they were there, including the apk) and delete them.
Again, tried it with titanium backup, didnt work out.
Also tried moving the folders manually and i took care to set the correct permissions, the app just wouldnt appear.
At last, after deleting all the system app data and files again, i finally placed the apk with correct permissions in the/system/app folder and rebooted my phone. The app was there but it was force closing.
I tried doing this with 4 different apps, to no avail.
I run stock firmware.
(please note- Although a800F and A800i have same hardware, a800i will not support the others custom recovery, root methods, kernels etc.)
Any devs who might be interested in this? Id be glad.
You need to create a folder with the same name as the apk and push the folder to system app.
Then put apk in the folder with same name

No, the lib and the .dex file of the user app im trying to move to system is intact, all im trying to ask is that do you think the system is not accepting the converted app because it has a .dex instead of the regular .odex file which is the case with all system apps?
This assumption might be wild, but considering that i have never faced such an issue before in 10-12 android devices that i have owned in the past, it might be of some use.

Has nothing do do with it, if it's a "user app" as long if the app has all needed files in correct folder it should run. it should be working if it doesn't it might be any issue that the app won't run while in system/app

That's because it has to be placed inside a folder with the same name as the app
Like /system/app/viper/viper.apk
It can't be /system/app/viper/base.apk
Also libs should be in
System/app/viper/lib/arm/*****.so
Hope this issue helps

i did try this before. tried it again. It doesnt work. I was extremely careful with directries, app names, libs and permissions.
Like ive said iv done this countless times before on other devices, and it has always worked.
Something else i would like to mention- Thought the app shortcut doesnt appear anywhere, whenever i open the apk file (on my sd card) it says "do you want to update the app" which means the app is actually already installed. I click yes and the app is installed, app icon returns.
I open application manager and open up this app's settings. I get the option of "Uninstall updates" instead of uninstall apps which proves the first time i moved to system, the app became a system app but it disappeared. If i click uninstall updates, the app disappears again. If i try to integrate update with link2sd the app disappears any ways.
There is just no reason for this to happen! So basically im stuck with a phone which barely got a root method, doesnt have a custom recovery, has a enforcing kernel, and doesnt allow me to move apps to /system.
Do you think it might be possible to "flash" the app zip file via a custom recovery? (if we get one for a800i lol)

Don't you have spacex kernel which is set to permissive?
Sent from my SM-G903F using Tapatalk
The only difference is that it happens with me for every app lol.
I did hear about it but im pretty sure its for a800F. Anything related to a800F causes a bootloop in a800i. Someone on the forum tried the spacex kernel. Do you think you can make it compatible somehow?
If nothing works i might just compile a kernel with always_enforce set to false. Then i should be able to change the policy to permissive with seteneforce 0 command.

The kernel works perfectly! Root+ selinux set to permissive. Flashed the boot.img with the twrp recovery provided by @ashyx . The recovery as well as the kernel work with no issue whatsoever. The problem with the wifi did not occur this time. Must be related to the old kernel i flashed, it somehow changed the build.prop everytime i flashed something (Including the recovery)
Anyways, now we know that the kernel as well as the recovery works as it should.
I think you should make the post official, recovery as well as root+selinux set to permissive.

Yes, thats the only thing that works. This issue really garners my interest as i have never seen this happening before.

Adaway in Android N (100% Working)

Follow these steps and you will definitely get it working
1.Flash the latest Supersu.zip beta
2.Flash these files Check link here
3.Install app and enable it
4.It works
I wonder what changed with nougat in order to you'se this method?with MM and before the app was enough and just working well.

Basically Nougat made harder to write system partition. That zip applies a workaround making the default hosts file (/system/etc/hosts) a symlink to another host file in a writable mountpoint (/su/etc/hosts). You can find more info here https://github.com/AdAway/AdAway/issues/770.

It is the same issue as discussed here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nex...-to-unlock-tethering-nexus-5x-t3231301/page20
The workaround described above doesn't change /system (which would get error corrected back to original), but instead masks the file in /system with an alternate one during boot.
Thank you very much. It works like a charm.
Work also with SuperSU?

Without this "trick" AdAway It doesn't show an error or fail... but it doesn't works. Try pinging any "supposed to be blocked" url. You may realized it's not blocked anymore.
I attempted this but it does not appear to have installed. I flashed via chainfire. Any ideas?
Thanks, this is much appreciated!

Yes, this "trick" essentially writes the hosts file to another location, and creates a symlink to it. This way it doesn't need to write to the /system/ directory.
There is a one-line command you can run in terminal emulator that lets you write to /system, but you need to run it each time you reboot, and it's a bit of a nuisance to do so. This lets Adaway work each time without the necessity of a terminal command.

Just an FYI, if you install SuperSU you can write to system and it will stick. You wouldn't need to do anything each boot in that case.

Strange, this is not my experience. I'm running PureNexus (7) and SuperSU Pro, and Adaway does not write to the system. It errors out, until I re-mount /system in terminal emulator

I didn't try any specific url but it seems like working on their test site.

That is a different problem than the one on stock Noguat then.
On stock without dm-verity disabled, the kernel will use forward error correction to "fix" you changes (ie data corruption) and replace with original. Basically you make the changes and they don't show up.
Nougat , flashed and no app installed, I downloaded adway from official website and working.
Link to original thread just for sure: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2190753
Please create Update for Android O.
AdAway works fine on O; no change from Nougat.
