NK2 available via KIES - Sprint Galaxy Note 4 General

I just updated to NK2 via Kies. My phone was rooted but otherwise stock. The update took about 7 or 8 minutes, it DID NOT delete data. I did lose root, but I rerooted with CF autoroot without problem.

I'm going to try this right now my phone is totally stock other than root also, I think Samsung really nailed it with the smoothness of the stock ROM. Thanks for posting your results man I didn't wanna be the first to try haha!

worked fine for me too via kies e/ rooted stock rom. cf autoroot afterwords.

Yup everything runs great! So does anyone know if "Itson" is supposed to be enabled now that we took the NK2 update?

It's on is off on mine. You can check from the ##data# dialer screen. By the way, after the update my phone was set to CDMA only, and I had to switch it back lte in settings. Might be worth checking.

Longtime lurker, first time poster.... unfortunately, it is not working for me. Previously rooted, suddenly lost hotspot, but it kept root about a week ago. Did the kies download (what could it hurt) then tried the cf autoroot again, and it will not fully recognize my phone like last time. It shows that there is something on a Com port, just not my phone like last time.

That was my first step on failure. changed cables, reinstalled drivers, rebooted (pc/droid), changed usb ports....
Ok, I got it to work after a removal of my phone battery and 5 minute time out.
Now, just to get the hotspot to work again.
Error: "unable to connect to data network.....see subscription options?"

[Q] (Root not happening) S4 i9500 {4.3 - I9500XXUEMJ8} {CSC - INU} {How to root now?}

Hello developers.
I'm trying to reroot my phone after the latest 4.3 update via ODIN for my Indian handset.
I'm trying using CF-AutoRoot via ODIN and the it says PASS and the phone restarts normally as it should but the root is simply not happening.
there were 2 android 4.3 updates for my device and i installed the latest (you can see the post title for the exact version)
after everything completed properly i simply tried CF-AutoRoot via ODIN and nothing is happening.
Till 4.2.2, it got rooted properly without such or any other problems.
Kindly assist me out in getting my phone rooted.
Regards.

Yep, I can´t re-root it again it seems the CF-Auto-Root-ja3g-ja3gxx-gti9500.tar its not working for the i9500XXUEMJ8 versión, well time to wait to an updated CF-Auto Root :crying::crying::crying:
I9500XXUEMJ5 root working (almost working)... i cant run some app, without root all apps working great ;/
Weird. I rooted using CF Auto Root after flashing 4.3 MJ8, it always worked! I never did OTA update though, always used Odin and full wipe.

The rooting worked so far for me. Have you enabled KNOX? They enhanced the security features and as far as I heard KNOX-enabled devices can't get full root. Verify whether it is enabled or not. I'm not sure whether the user enables it or not but that may be the reason. I'm also not sure whether this KNOX security really affects I9500 models. I9505 models are definitely affected.

Probably I never full wiped.
The apps and all other data is retained (normally all is retained when we update rom via odin).
Factory reset (full wipe) was never required earlier to get root to work.
Knox is not on from my side though I get some notifications always that some app tried to access something and Knox blocked that. But I guess that is something else because we need to manually activate Knox after opening the Knox app.

what was the solution? did you need to do a fullwipe? or used another method for rooting?
im on 4.2.2 MG9 and would like to update to 4.3 and have root without the know issue.
thanks.
Backup and Factory reset and cache clear after updating to 4.3
Then you'll get stock Samsung 4.3
Follow the same method to root (auto root) or alternatively flash super su via cwm/twrp/stock recovery.

Thank you. Will this trip the knox thing?
After using CF-AUto root you need to update Super SU App on first boot.
Then Open SuperSU app and choose to install SU Binary without using a custom recovery.
Then reboot.
Then install Titanium backup pro and use it to free all Knox related files.
There are 7 of them and you need to remove all of them.
Remember you need to install a custom recovery to install busybox. (atleast in my case)
Install http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2489234 via ODIN.
Once you are on custom recovery.
Use busybox installer to install busybox.
reboot.
You are done.

No mate.
Wait for a future update to trip that.
In the mean time, I'm trying to trip that since it isn't very difficult just lazy to try everything since everytime 1 thing fails, I need to restore the whole data and if takes much of my bandwidth.
Hope you understand.
And the device status will also remain custom.
P.S. Touchwiz UI from Samsung will hang on a later date due to some app compatibility issue (I'm not sure which app but I can tell a large set of apps and it will hang due to any one from that list) so it is preferred to shift to some other launcher on pre hand.

i really wanted to update but i guess i am going to wait for a while. lots of issues seem to be happening once rooted. also dont want to lose warranty with the knox thing.
it seems the custom roms such as arrow and crash also have sound issues, FC issues on some apps.
i guess ill wait and see. maybe once the nexus 5 is out i can sell the i9500 and get the nexus 5.

Waiting is good.
Don't sell your phone though (for obvious reasons).
You've got much to explore.
When it comes to selling, you'll get money whenever you do that so keep that option as your last bet.
Custom roms aren't really preferred from my side until you are a die hard modification fan!.
Rooting is the only problem (which is solved now I guess) on the latest firmware.
Rooting won't do any problem, believe me (except warranty).

hello again, i am asking this question because i cant post in the development forum yet.
i downloaded 3 files from the OP http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317105
the PDA, CSC and modem. all for MJ8, downloaded PDA is odex.
when i flashed 3 of the files with ODIN like shown in op my device. After i restarted i got errors for Unfortunately, the process com.google.process.gapps .
i searched on google and did what was suggested, like clearing dalvik cache, resetting default apps, uninstalling the play store update etc.
the phone was unusable, the errors popedup every second.
I had to go back to the MG9 4.2.2 firmware.
What did i do wrong?
have you guys tried the method mentioned in the post. it prerooted and knox free 4.3 firmware.

Probably you want to upgrade to 4.3?
If so goto sammobile.com and find the latest firmware for your device from there, download and flash the same via odin.
You're now on 4.3!
Once done you can root from the auto root method by chain fire.

[Q] 4.3 update frozen on Odin screen

I downloaded the official OTA update. When I went to install it the phone needed to reboot and now I've been stuck looking at the Green Android screen saying Downloading... Do not turn off target!!! and in very small writing could not do normal boot, Odin mode. I am rooted. Please help
What version is the phone? I'm reading up on things in preparation of updating myself. I'm on MF3 and for what I've read I need to Odin back to stock before updating since I'm rooted. This may not be your case figured I'd toss it out there.

To unroot, try this. It worked for me. I'm back to "official". However, I've downloaded 4.3 like 5 times already. I can download 100%, but when it reboots to install it stops at 30% then says update failed.

Ok I have my phone working again. I am not on 4.3 but its back to where it was before I started, which is better than nothing. After running Odin once and it failing like it always does (I have never seen it work) I was able to get the holding down volume, home and power button option to work and I just said no and to reboot and it worked. I then went into SuperSU app and unrooted. I will try to update to 4.3 at a later time. I am glad I wasn't the only one having issues. I usually pride myself on knowing technology and being able to figure it out.

I had the same problem. The only way I was finally able to upgrade to 4.3 was to use Odin to revert to stock (unrooted) 4.2.2 MF3 using the files on this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2502003 Once I did that I ran the OTA update to 4.3 and it worked without any problems.
So if I oden to stock again don't root Then hit the update it should go? Weird thing is I installed my back up today and it a stock backup fresh rich from a oden wipe and it stared DL on its own before I stopped it with killing WiFi. MJ7 Root........

For those who have taken the MJ7 update and realized that you can't regain root. Kingo is working on a solution. Verizon likes to lock their loaders so it takes a little time to break them. I had to take my note to a Best Buy store about an hour from where I live to have them reset my phone from what is being labeled a Softbrick. If anyone knows a way to root the SM-900V with MJ7 please let me know.
Thanks,

The Kingo does work for the Verizon Note 3. I literally just did it. At first, it kept saying not supported, but I tried it again with my screen timeout off and I saw that when my phone was connected to Kingo, something popped up warning me something was trying to exploit my phone, click on the box and hit install. Then not long after that your phone will reboot and grant permission stuff will come up. You can either do it this way, or under security uncheck verify apps located under unknown sources.
So on the kingo screen, when selecting the OS mine only goes up to 4.2.2. I am obviously running 4.3 on the note 3. Do I pull the trigger? Or am I missing an update?

YES guys, you can root your phone VIA Kingo even if you updated to the newer firmware. My scenario, got my N3 bone stock, rooted it on MJ9 via kingo and worked. Applied OTA update to version to MJ7 and lost root. Used kingo again and gained root. Works totally fine and SS works fine as well.

Does anyone have a link to Kingo. I can't get mine to go in Odin, I click to import the file, hit start, and it doesn't do anything. Does the De la Vega file have to be renamed? I'm usually pretty good at getting these things rooted, this seems to be dealing me fits. I NEED ROOT lol
Other issue is that 7zip will not extract the de la Vega file, says it can't open as a archive
Why is this thread so long? Kingo works with MJ7. Nuff said. If the OP would of read the Verizon Note 3 threads for 10-15 minutes he/she would of found this out.

VM could definitely be part of your problem, especially if you do not have Internet access through it. USB connections can sometimes be flaky as well.

[Q] Is Kingo not working at all?

I'm interested in the new ROMs that are out but before I start playing I want to have my odin and root steps up to date. I notice that there have been several folks have had kingo fail and have had to use vroot. Is this the standard to use now? Just want to be sure I'm doing this correctly.
I'm on the current baseband and kernel, if that helps.
Thanks in advance.

I used Vroot the other day to re root my phone after a reset and replaced the Chinese superuser with Chainfires supersu. You can install it either via Playstore or flash it in safestrap witch I prefer. Also be sure to uninstall whatever other Chinese app gets installed. I have no idea what it is because I can't read it. As a added precaution I also removed my sim card during root. As for Kingo It didn't work for me but there is activity on their twitter account.

No, right away I installed the proper english version, and then deleted the chinese one.
Just tried Kingo and it's working again.

I miss the good old days when there would be a separate thread for each rooting process with suggestions and questions. Now it's search here, search there, search everywhere!

Your welcome. It did take a few tries but it went. Be sure to update supersu when you finish, Kingo is out of date a couple of versions.
I tried 1000000 times last night and it did not work. I used Vroot and it worked great. But remember to do I factory reset to get rid of all the bad crap it loads.

They must have just got Kingo working because I used it twice today. The second time worked on the first try. I tried it a second time after a full Oden reset just to make sure. Had some extra time today to play around.

Worked for me too with MJE. Used USB 3.0 cable in USB 3.0 mode MTP. Prior to that failed in ODIN mode and in MTP mode without USB 3.0. But may be just random luck. Now have Supersu app.
Questions:
1. Should I use that Supersu or change. Looks like same old Supersu, but the version with yellow superman shield and red # sign.
2. Also, it asks if I want to disable Knox. Should I do that? Does that risk tripping know counter?

Keep supersu but update it to the current v1.93 either by Play Store or flashing in safestrap and yes disable Knox it will not trip the counter. Enjoy.
Yes K works even though it says it fails. I posted my experience back on Feb 3 in another similar thread or look via my profile. In short it will say that it failed but su app shows up and use a root checker to verify. Removal of sd card and pulling and replacing the sim card before root might help. Also watch you phone for a security permission to add an app. I sat an extra five minutes before realizing it.

Downloading mine as we speak.
Rolling out in the Netherlands as well. For now no significant changes. Like to see a full changelog..
New:

CSC: P900OXAANB6
MODEM: P900XXUANC4
Downloading in on a US purchased WiFi model right now.

Tried the Cellular South version on Sammobile. Full wipe and install via Odin 3.09. Seems snappier to me. Reinstalled all my apps. Leaving it unrooted for now.

Applied update today.
Two things I notice:
1. Viewing large images in stock gallery now much speedier. Before, there was a long delay drawing large images.
2. Suddenly X-plore my preferred file manager has write access on SD card! Before this update it didn't. Haven't really looked fully if other apps have write access that didn't before. Hancom office updated also but it still can only write to a specific location on SD. Maybe X-plore was just a fluke either way? I'm not sure, but happy it works now.
I just notice the update and I just want to know what it will change for better since the device already good enough for me.

Update in the Netherlands caused much faster WiFi connection. It was extremely slow before while doing a test with the speedtest.net app. The whole device feels speedier and snappier now. For me a big improvement. I hope more will follow, because the speed experience on this very expensive device is a bit disappointing to me.
Lost Root
I took this update and lost root. I tried CF Autoroot and it failed, my tablet would not boot up. I had to flash stock image. I suggest if you don't want to lose root, wait awhile before taking this update. By the way, SU survival didn't work.

you won't lose root. You just have to reinstall SuperSU and everything will be fine. I lost root after updating to the new firmware, however after rebooting I reinstalled the SuperSU and I Have root again.

same happened to me. reinstalling supersu didn't work. I tried rerooting with cfautoroot and it hangs on cach.img then my screen goes striped red and freezes. couldn't even boot, had to re flash recovery to boot.
shouldn't have updated.

cfautoroot is the only one that I'm aware of to flash, that's working anyways. I've seen other work in another forum however it hasn't been fully successful.
