any z1 to z3 owners? - Xperia Z3 Compact General

It's gonna be hard to let go of my z1, it's been very solid and I have nothing bad to say about it.
just picked up the z3 today, havent really got a chance to play around with it yet but super excited.
I mainly got it for the highres play back so I may just use it as a high res player and keep my z1 as my main.
Pissed that I have to go get a nano sim too, had it been micro sim i'd prob be using it already.
Good new is I can use my dk31 (z1) charger, its a tight fit but it works and charges.
here some pics, I also got the z3 tablet last week......

you can cut your micro sim card to fit as nano sim card. just google it , print out the shape and cut it. i did it myself , the chip is always the same among sim cards they just decreased the sourrounding plastic from sim-> micro sim -> nano sim

I'm coming from a black Z1 to a white Z3 Compact.

ended up giving the phone to the wifey......keeping z1 as main and using the tablet for fun

White C6906 to white D5803, kinda miss the Z1 and can't bear selling it XD

Don't miss my Z1 at all. Had to charge it way too often

Im considering changing from z1 compact to z3 compact. How much of a difference is the battery life? Is the screen colour and brightness better?
Sent from my D5503 using XDA Free mobile app

Battery life has doubled in my case. It lasts a full day of heavy work
Colors and screen about the same I feel. At least not worse. A bit brighter.

Colours are much better on z3c. I have compared mine to my brother's z1c and i can confirm. They are more real and natural and also the blacks are deeper

No touch screen issues on z3c. Are you talking about those ghost touches? XD i had those on my former Z Ultra and my brother does have it on his z1c. But i am yet to encounter this on my z3c. I say go for it
Sent from my Compact Beast The Third.

hey. i changed from z1c to z3c and I'm fine with it. battery lasts longer (about 30% more time) and holds nearly 2 days now.
with the SIM issue. i also didn't see that it even uses nano SIM. I had a Micro NFC SIM from TMobile Germany and cut it off on the edges to fit. I was kinda afraid to lose the NFC ability, but it went well and all works fine now.
But I have to say I would not have changed from Z1C to Z3C if I didn't get a special offer from my company to buy it at a very low price. The difference between the two is marginal.

I also went from a Z1C to a Z3c, I really do miss r00t. Ik have always modified my phone with xposed, and running application like TB are essential for me. In addition I would like to be able to install software on the SD card, which is now not possible. So until I can have r00t with the conservation of DRM keys when unlocking the bootloader I will keep using my z1c. The screen btw is much better on the z3c

I just broke my Z1C and now I'm thinking about buying the Z3C.
What do you think of the plastic on the side of the Z3C? The metal frame on the Z1C was better, right?
And what about recording video in slow motion? Is it that good as it appears to be on YouTube?
Do you think I should wait for the Z4C?
Thanks

Battery life seems about the same, but the screen is comparatively gorgeous. Even with the bump up from 4.3", it's just as good, if not better. The brightness is iffy to me, though - adaptive brightness seems to screw with contrast and sharpness, even when X-Reality is disabled. :/

Not always. My micro SIM had a chip that was too large for the nano form factor. Fortunately (?!) it fit because I've lost my dang SIM tray... When a replacement arrives (had to order it from Singapore or something, gah), I'll be switching to a proper nano-SIM.

You have to cut a bit into the chip , won't harm it and it will still work. Of course it always bears some risk .I dont think that Chip structure would vary a Lot, would it?

Hey Guys and Gals
Sony's latest flagship is hitting the street less than six months after its predecessor. The Xperia Z3 is also similar in hardware to the Z2, is it worth the upgrade?
Sony touting improved battery management, the addition of remote PS4 play and some tweaks to the camera software, is it enough to keep people coming back? Lets break down some of the features of the Sony Xperia Z3:
Design
The design is lighter and slimmer than the Z2, while largely similar, its more of refining the design than a whole new device. As previous versions, the Z3 features the same dust and water protection, IP65 and IP68 certification, so should be good for 30 minutes at 1.5 meters water depth. The reinforced corners and tempered glass will also help those a little accident prone.
The Z3 is available in several metallic colors black, white, copper and green.
Screen
The Z3 has basically the same screen as the Z2 a 5.2" panel with a 1,920 x 1,080 resolution. With competitors flagship's moving to QHD displays, its an odd choice. We're still unsure if if the increased resolution will make a big difference on devices with this size screen and if keeping the pixel count lower Sony has achieved its claims on battery life. If you're happy with the Z2's screen, this should suit.
Hardware
Despite the Z3 being only having marginal improvements over its predecessor, it still packs a punch. Powered along by a 2.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor as found in the Galaxy S5, and is backed up with 3GB of RAM. As with most flagship devices, it has the usual array of connectivity options including 4G, NFC, Wi-Fi and low-energy Bluetooth 4.0. The Z3 also sports stereo speakers, so audio output should be enough for those quick youtube moments.
The camera is the same seen in the Z2 with a 20.7 MP sensor, thought some software improvements have been added. A 25mm G lens for wider, clearer shots has been included and the cameras ISO rating has been upgraded. With 4K video recording also available, this is an appealing package.
Software
Here is the Z3's main party feature, PS4 remote Play! For some this may be the deal breaker, and it is appealing having fully fledged console gaming on a mobile device (for those who dont own a PSVita) Sony has made available a smart looking attachment for the PS controller, so the Z series devices can be mounted above for a full mobile gaming experience. This is a most welcomed add-on, personally i don't get on with on-screen controllers, you just cant beat the feel of real buttons Lets hope one of the community's fantastic devs can port this bad boy to other devices:good::highfive:
Sony has also introduce the lifelog service to its latest devices, this is a fitness and well-being application. Lifelog uses the Z3's sensors along with other wearable's (Smartwatch 3) to collect data on distances covered, calories burnt, workout intensity and steps taken etc. Its a nice touch for those who own other Sony devices.
Battery Life
This is where Sony claims to of upgraded the Z3, despite having a lower rated battery 3100mAh over 3200mAh, Sony have worked on the power management and now claim the Z3 will last a full 2 days over the Z2's 1.4. We have yet to see if these claims are true, so looking forward to members experiences on this.

Powered by S805 and 4GB ram, 64GB internal memory and Android 5.
Sony didn't bring anything new and we all knew that'll be the case...
They just want to be in our heads...that's all.
If you upgrade from Z2 to Z3 you'll get few new apps and features and that's not enough...
Of course, Sony want older users (not by age but devices) to upgrade and stay in Z family...and that's OK...even...
If I'm stuck at Xperia S or even older (P or U) I would rather buy Z2.
I'll be significantly cheaper and you'll still get awesome device.
To conclude - I think I'll wait Z4... That'll be great device...
For now...I'm enjoying my Z1 and Z2 and I love them both...
Great devices...

How will the water resistance hold up to the microSD slot? If I open and close the microSD flap cover a bunch, would it wear out and allow water in more easily?

Z3 overheating problems?

I'm worried that because Sony made the Z3 smaller and thinner than the Z2 while overclocking the processor, it will run into heat problems quickly.
There's already a huge issue with Z2 recording in 4k as users have complained about overheating issues.
I was just watching this youtube hands on video and noticed this

Overheating while camera use is a huge issue in Z2 and sony has done nothing to resolve that. I went to the mall and checked xperia z2 in all shop abd outlets. All of them heated up n closed camera while taking simple pictures. 4k is another story. Its impossible to take normal pictures with z2 camera.
Sony needs to fix this, I had a Z2 for a few days and i have never experienced a blazing hot phone before like that Z2. It was really concerning hot.

thanks for pointing this out, OP. i was looking for some indication one way or the other as to whether overheating would be an issue. could be, like @maple_mak was suggesting, that charging might be a contributing factor.
wonder what the app was though.
if it's GPS, that'll suck for Ingress + external battery pack.

Ding ding ding. This is the culprit.
I wouldn't be worried about overheating at all.
I dunno why more manufacturers don't make metal backed cases then like the motorola. I mean dissipate the heat. Glass is a thermal insulator

In fact, glass spreads heat just like aluminium.
no it does not.
Glass has a thermal conductivity of below 1 (which say it barely conducts heat) where Aluminium has over 200 (good conductor). This value tells us how fast heat is conducted (or spreaded to use your words)
What you might have meant is thermal capacity, which is of absolutely no interest in this case. Thermal capacity for glass and aluminium is rather similar and tells you how much heat is needed to heat something up.
As the glass on the back of our phones is rather thin heat will still get trough pretty quickly.
If you talk about over-heating issues, you must also consider the fact that 4k recording is not as easy like how 1080p recording works. It requires a lot of processing power. So no matter what phone you are on, and you want to record 4k, there would definitely be this overheating issue occuring. (Tested on the S5, G3, Z2, Z3)

so you´re saying that all of those phones you mention, automatically shut down the camera app after a couple of minutes of recording 4k?
the only difference being that no warnings of overheating keep popping up on the other phones?

I believe all Samsung phones (Note 3, S5) have a 5 minute limit on 4k recording.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wXsyK5YCid8
4K heat test: LG G3, Samsung Galaxy Note 3, S5, Sony Xperia Z2 i know its a little older phones, but it summerized some of your question.
Just take a look at it.
EDIT:
Its says that G3, Note 3 and S5 have a cap limit at 5minutes of 4K video reccording, while z2 records till it get too hot (that means it can record longer then other phones in good conditions.

Keep N6 or go with Z3

I know the responses are going to be biased, but I just want everyone's take on my situation.
I was just able to pre-order the Nexus 6. I was so close to ordering the Z3 yet I had the chance to get the N6 today. Yet, I still want the Z3 instead! Am I dumb for wanting the Z3 instead?
I also like the fact the Z3 (d6603) is available from Sony's US site and they offer the extended warranty.
Any thoughts? Would anyone trade their Z3 for a N6? I've had all the Nexus devices and I guess I want a change but I do like Z3's features. Any input would be great.
Sent from my Xiaomi Mi4
I think the biggest thing is the phone size for me the z3 is almost the perfect size. I would have prefered a 5 inch screen size instead of the 5.2 and the z3c is smaller than I like. If you're comfortable with the n6's screen size then go for that.
I kind of would like the smaller size. I think I'm jumping on the Nexus/stock android bandwagen. I like the Z3s waterproofing, double tap to wake, insane battery life and awesome looks! Damn I think I made up my mind already, ha
Sent from my Xiaomi Mi4
I would say give the Z3 a try before the N6 arrives and make your decision from there. I would like to try the N6.
I came to the z3 from the n5. I considered the n6, but like it was mentioned before, its too big for me. I also like some of the extras included that just makes the near stock experience that much better, for me at least.
I prefer the Z3 despite getting a few defective ones from a bad batch eventually I got a good one (4th). The Z3 has expandable memory, is thinner and unlike AMOLED no need to worry about burn in, last but not least the Z3 has great speakers and excellent battery life without even Android 5.0 just imagine how much better it will be with 5.0.
I'd try one first. It does have a lot of problems. The camera is very temperamental and takes absolutely rubbish pics on Auto, and is only really good on 20mp manual in my opinion. It's slower and laggier than competition, on simple things like loading wallpaper when you turn it on, coming out of Apps like dialer when you finish a call takes forever, and it's a little unwieldy.
Add to that the screen is much too blue, and you lose the brightness when you adjust the white balance.
Personally i'd stick with your old phone and wait it out.
I prefer Z3 because of the size. Nexus 6 is too big.
I prefer the Z3. I had the Nokia 1520 so I know the size of the Nexus 6 and I also have the Nexus 5. I went with the Z3 over the Nexus 6 because of PS Remote Play and the water resisitance. Also, the phone has expandable memory which is a BIG plus, since I would prefer not to use the Cloud services because I travel a lot.
I pre-ordered the phone from T-Mo and did not know or expect what the phone would be like until I received it, but as for size the Z3 is definitely in the sweet spot. Its large enough to surf and watch videos but not too large as to not being able to fit in your pocket. I had to take my Nokia 1520 out of my pocket from time to time just to sit down without it digging into my hip because the pockets were not deep enough.

Thanks for the input. I'm pretty sure I'll go with the Z3. I definitely want a change. Like I said, I've had all the Nexus devices before, and as much as I like stock Android, it does get a bit boring. I used the L preview before i sold my N5, and I just wasnt impressed like i was with gingerbread, ICS, and KitKat. Also, this point in my life, I just don't have time to flash ROMs/tinker with my device, which is something I'm always tempted to do with the Nexus.
Regarding the size, I like how other OEMs have features to deal with the size. Such as one handed mode with the Note and LG G3. So that makes having a big phone more practical. The N6 isn't like that. I would feel it would be difficult to handle the phone. Especially when I have my baby daughter in one arm, I couldn't use my phone, ha.
The camera seems like a hit or miss as well. That's ok with me. I'm no photographer, but it looks like it takes decent enough pics.
Sent from my Xiaomi Mi4
I have Z3 and I am considering to order N6. Main reason is the camera which is a let down. But there is one thing which I love about Z3 and its the battery life. I really don't have to worry about running out of battery with this one. I have heard some news that N6 wouldn't be that great and I really don't want to go back to charging by noon which I had with M8.
If the N6 has the same camera as the Moto X then you wont be seeing any improvement over the Z3 as far as I know.
Nexus 6 is way too big for mere mortals. I'm glad I didn't wait. I can't believe they only released one size of the Nexus 6, that size being frigging gigantic.

I think the one big up the N6 camera has on the Z3 is optical image stabilization.
I will go for the Nexus 6 because of custom ROM support. There are more ROMS available for the Z2 than for the Z3, period.

Its barely even 2 months since official release, and a large number of people have only got it since mid to late october when it released in their areas. How can you campare it to the Z2 development, which has been out for much longer?

don't forget, nexus 6 will only have android 5.0 (and above)... it probably won't have a kitkat backport
for the nexus 5, it took a while for custom ROMs to port their changes onto the (then) new 4.4 kitkat sources... for the Z3, you'll probably get a couple of different ROMs once a working CM11 port is created

Hi guys...

Apparently, this should be next Sony's big thing...
If you ask me, I don't like new look but we'll see final design once Sony announce this new beast.
And yeah...even many claimed it'll have S810, it'll probably be S805 with 4GB of ram.

Don't get it...?
What do you wanna say?
I wouldent see why not the device would be so powerful, they have had some tough market recently and although sony isnt one to faulter in quality (exept Z2 hiccip)
Im hoping to come across a Z4 but my college budget says hell never.
That is the image of a Z3...
http://www.androidpit.com/sony-xperia-z4-release-date-news-specs-features
here is the features of the upcoming z4. I gonna buy this!!!
Nice but i hope sony will avoid onscreen buttons or at leastgive us an option just like oneplus one..
That pic just looks like a Z2 it seems though
Or perhaps something edited and also made to look poor quality
BTW - that digitiser isn't from Z4.
That's a fake.
I wonder about Z4, Sony need to have a 64bit cpu just for the name of it
Customers either go for lies or big titles, Sony trys not to lie but they also fail to provide at times
Z4 would need a 805 or above to arouse any eyes
Maybe not even that, perhaps lolipop, 64bit, QHD Display
Big words Avg customers dont know about
Yay marketing, Crude work
nope xperia design is loosing its point
The main reason wich made me buy a smartphone now was the genius design of the XZseries, but since the Z3 they go this ****ty casual rounded borders way wich just looks as every other Iphone.replicant...
When I look at my naked Z2, damn I get a tech.boner with nice crispy borders looks like a chocolate.bar! Yummyyummy
And hopefully the Z4 comes with an Ultra version thats the only thing I miss bout my Z2 make them bigger, I anyways charge daily whats the point of small screen for the sake of 30% battery over the night so u have to charge in the mifdle of the next day xD
I also had seen an Z4 design earlier wich went more onto my desired way of design but i think it was a phantom....Ill post a link when I find it later

The Z4 will be almost the same as Z2. There are pics of the Display and the stereo speakers that are the same as our Z2's ( : So Sony heard us about the sh..ty Z3 design at least. I love my Z2 design also..Its just..stylish and elegant :fingers-crossed:
Looks much better than z3 .

I like Sony, phone has good quality, design also nice
Xperia Z4 will be a 5.5" inch screen and UHD resolution and snapdragon 805 (confirmed informations) not much, but little informations is better than nothing

Z5p after 1 month

well after a month and a z5p change (camera fault) this i my experiece
battery:for me i very good. my z5p is paired with a pebble time steel and a fitbit hr and when i'm in car with my garmin by smatphonelink. i power up at 8.00 am and the battery have 10/15 % at 2.00 am.considering i'm coming from a note edge that
i had to charge in the afternoon with the same usage and non wearable connect i'm realy happy.
screen: excellent , apart the the angle view, but not a great problem
camera:i expect more from the camera, i't a good camera but not great
look and fell: for me the most beatifull device in his catergory, and materials are great
now the bad:
heat: omg it's a fire...
sd: i've got sd problem ,like some photos become unusable some i can see only in album but i cannot share or copy on pc, and some kind of flaac are unredable, but dunno if it's realy the phone or the sd
last some consideration about two sony accessories
the original cover with window: the worst cover i've ever seen.... no magneti clip on the front so if the phone fall down the screen is full expose, the window is a magnet for fingerprint
original craddle: not bad the materials are not great but it works good
Grazie Luca!
Idc if its hot XDDDD its winter here so u know good to have em hands warm!!
you should replace and buy a new 1sd card. i use 64gig sd card and no issues for me, didnt try the flaac though. but for the pictures no problem at all.
I also came from a note edge and I so far am missing:
Download booster, that thing came in handy.
Lack of decent cases and stands there is nothing for it really and even tho I had a z2 with no issues I am worried about all the glass
for a very good case look here http://www.tetded.com/home/en/339-xperia-z5-premium-e6853-z5-premium-dual-e6833-e6883 no magnetic flip but excellente materials and great look i bought the Dijon II (Venus: Black Croc/Toffee ) version and with my gold z5p is a pleasure to see.
for stand and charge i've bought the original sony dock and it works well.
for glass i never use a protection don't like nothing over the screen but some kind of glass protection sure come
The Sony dock is portrait tho, I need landscape shame the magnetic charger was left off

Do you get random disconnects with your Pebble Time Steel? I've been getting them inconsistently but enough to throw me off cause sometimes it will disconnect and stay that way, and sometimes it just stays connected. Other times it will disconnect and reconnect. Also, have you ever faced the Android OS battery drain? I used to have it. Not sure if it's gone but it's getting less and less now.
yes i've got random disconect but i think it's a bluettoh problem cause i've got random issue with other bluetooth device.
And yes sometimes, luckly only few time, i've got some strange battery drain and phone become hot as hell.
hope with 6.0 sony correct the problem
Here mine after a month:
- camera is not better compared with my previous phone - sg note 4. I compared and still comparing (with another stock 5.1.1 note 4 in my family). Sony just is far behind with focus speed and accuracy, photos sharpness, lack of burst with just clicking on the shoot buton.. I am disappointed from Sony and dxomark.
- generic screen backlight is again far behind sami.. I feel like my old days with nexus 4.
- loud speaker/s are not loud enough. Yes they are two in stereo mod which is great but..
- fingerprint scaner/sensor is not accurate enough even after registering multiple slots with the same finger using different angles/positions. Around 10-15% I need to unlock with code. Yes I like it but this is not a finished product. IPhones handle this much better.
Now the good things:
I am fokin love this phone! It is perfectly looking (well a centimeter smaller boarders on top and bottom will be 100% satisfaction but ..)
This almost pure Android is a beast! Can't even compare it with Samsung tw (even on their last flagships where it is still unpolished and woody). Perfect memory management, simplicity with some Sony's features. I managed to remove 99% of the bloatware, and the rest 3 apps which are protected I just disabled.
4k vids are so detailed and beautiful that I started to think someone upgraded my eyes! Stunning!
Buttons (vol rockers, cam, power) are perfectly positioned by my opinion (well cam start speed must be improved for sure)
I managed to overheat the SOC only with wot blitz and hd recording, but still the heating pipes are perfectly set. Excellent work from Sony!
Battery performing much better compared with note 4.. It is so durable!
At the end, I can say - the perfect phone for me. I totally love it.
I received it today, so happy!
I will come back here after a few days of use (even if the discussion says "after a month"
First disappointment: if you register your fingerprint it forces you to to unlock the device only that way. I just want to register my fingerprint for security purposes, for example paying on google play store or logging in apps like paypal.
If you want a simple double tap to unlock your device with no passwords, fingerprints, patterns ecc. you have to DELETE your fingerprints. Yes, you have to DELETE them. But why?? It's really stupid.
And, by the way, this is another really stupid thing:
