does fast charging decrease the life of a battery? - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Will using fast charging decrease the life of my battery?
Will my battery life shorten compared to using regular charging?

I bet it will.

It has to or samsung wouldnt include option to disable it

nature.

no! we can disable it in setting(battery) option.but i will use it

It's probably not a big effect. Fast charging backs off to normal when the battery is like half full to protect it.

Even if it did, just replace the battery.

Fact of the day

: for phones like galaxy s and iphone that use lithium battery, it is "better" to charge several times a day rather than draining it to low percentages. It lengthens the life of your battery XD
This is true. Leaving the phone plugged in is also good for preserving the life of the battery.
This also applies to laptops which is contrary to what most people are told.

the question is...
If your battery is damaged , do you change only the battery ? Galaxy s yes , iphone NO !
The best for the battery is to keep it between half filled and full - keeping it always at full charge degrades the battery! Source wikipedia

Use it...... Charge it often... try not to discharge the battery to zero. Calibration is not needed... This is a newer phone with new battery technology.

thanks I thought to calibrate it you had to discharge it fully then recharge
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Yeah just use it like normal. Don't worry about the battery bar too much.
Calibration is a myth
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
It is a good idea to charge for solid 8 hours and discharge to around 10% the first 2-3 cycles of the battery to condition it. But after that, use as you please, no memory effect or calibration or the like.
Only thing I would add, do not drain completely flat (0%) as it can negatively effect battery capacity, tho modern batteries usually have guards to prevent full discharge, for that reason
Calibration (full discharge) was for Ni-MH battery technology, and is actually a bad thing to do with Li-Ion/Li-Pol batteries

There is no memory effect any more. Just avoid killing the battery fully or leaving it charged for extended sessions, because the heat hurts the battery.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
The thing about discharging to zero damaging the battery is another myth. The phone will report the battery at zero well before it reaches the "real zero". So there's an inbuilt safety margin that means you don't have to worry.

Note 3 Battery Problem

I have a galaxy note 3 N9005 and the battery life is not what it should be. I've owned this phone for about 5 days. I always have power saving mode on with all the smart and air features disabled. I charged my device to 100%. Does anyone know how to fix this?
Thanks
Wow, that's some horrible battery life. I'm not seeing anything like that on my device though.
Did you condition the battery probably?
And of over 3 hour screen on time.
My advice: try to recondition your battery
As in, let it die, recharge to full from wall outlet. Do that about 3 to 5 times. Don't force it to die just use it normally so the battery will discharge power properly this will causes it to hold more charge.
If you do that and the battery still doesn't hold charge then your battery is good as dead.

Wow you get amazing battery life! Thanks for your help
Is your screen brightness set to 100%? And was what you're doing over excessively white? Because that might account for some of it.
Did you unplug it last at 100% battery, or somewhere halfway? Because from the look of that table, you unplugged it around 50%...

You have defective battery plain and simple. All this talk of calibration is for birds. This lithium batteries don't need that.

I would just to head off a Pandora box of ish. I pretty sure it's battery but why not just get new device get a second unboxing feeling plus the sooner you do it less attached you are to current device. Then pimp out new device with DynamicNotification. My 3 cents

I have been having some issues as well
its getting better since last Thursday since i got it but its still not 1 day.
it used to be 5 hours from 100% to 20% brightness in auto
Do we have to "train" the battery to achieve max capacity?
is it battery defect or phone?

Note 3 Charged from 10% to 100% in LESS than 1 hour!

This is CRAZY! I'd been using my S4 charger all along and decided to try the cable that came with the phone and I'm IMPRESSED! WOW
Yes its fast this is the best phone i ever used

Just curious, what is your average battery life and average screen on time?

You must have a magical charger. Mine charges in about 2 hours with the stock charger at 1800 mah rate (max stock rate).
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Mine charges faster than my Note 2 but not that fast. In general I am happy with the improvements seen.
It's strange that yours charges so fast? Most of the stuff I've read so far for charging with the stock N3 wall charger is that they're charging at around 35%/hr
How's yours doing so fast??
Sent from my SM-N900W8 using xda premium
1 to 100 took me 2hrs and 15 minutes charging time.. but after 10 minutes idle of the phone, the battery went down to 98percent and stop there
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I would have to say this is defiantly a understated feature of this phone! I mean it charges soooo much faster than the N2 did! Faster than any phone I have ever had! Amazing!
I have the same experience as the OP.. The phone charges pretty fast if your using the stock charger and cable

Mines charges under an hour from 10% down to fully charged especially if you don't use the phone while it's charging and even then my phone does the job. I'm pretty sure it varies phone to phone so take this with a grain of salt.

Plugged it in at 55% and it got to 88% in 30 minutes.

Can the note 3 battery be used in the note 2 and i717
i'm asking because i tried the s3 into my note an it worked perfectly I was wondering if I can buy an oem battery an for the note 3 an put it in my note 1
its possible
I have the same experience as OP. We need some hard data on this. What's the best app for monitoring charging? I use system monitor. I love the battery graph in my pull down menu. I'll post a screen shot from a full charge whenever I get a chance. (I have 87% now so it'll be awhile unless I find something good to download on thepiratebay)

Weird, I thought it was the same for everyone. Mines the same, phones on but with no use it charges to full battery under an hour when it's on red. I work at best buy mobile and customers have told me the same.

Anyone has this problem?

My phone battery life suck! I used to be able to get 5 hours of screen on time but not anymore. I can barely push out a day use without having to charge it. Check the pictures I'll have attached. I might have to return this to T-Mobile if I have my phone insured.

Meaningless... You'll need to look for wakelocks, look for CPU hogs, look for bandwidth hogs, etc.
GSam Battery Monitor and Better Battery Stats are a good start to get useful information.

Agree with 3rd post also try battery calabration and greenify!
Try NOT using the 4g the whole time.
Hmmm I'll go through one whole day with GSam battery stats and post the statistics of my use.
