Considering getting one for taking to college/university - Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact General

Hi,
Really like the look of this tablet and it appears to have all the features I'm interested in, but I can't find anywhere online that talks about how officesuit 8 pro works on this device.
My main interest in this tablet is for taking to my university lectures to take notes on/view PowerPoint presentations on. Do any current owners use officesuite on this device? If so, how is it?
This will be my first venture into the tablet world and I want to make sure I pick a good tablet to spend my money on (I'm a student I don't have much!)
Any responses are appreciated,
Regards,
Elliot

I guess office pro is okay but more good comments are for quick office app. I still haven't seen an app that can do PowerPoint presentation just like key note on ipad

I've been using mine for school. But mostly for using as a text book and I mostly use evernote for note talking.

Right now I'm in the Office for Android preview program, testing Word, Excel and Powerpoint. You may be able to use those apps in the following months
You may request to join the program:

It's only available for tablets betwen 7" and 10.1" excluding Galaxy Tab 7.

Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet inking very nice

I was able to get the Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet and really like the use of the stylus. The ThinkPad tablet is running Honeycomb 3.1 and is like most tablets except for a few things. Has some nice security features to enable remote wipe, it encrypts the external SD Card.

Any one else have this yet? Root? Any Developers?
Got my yesterday!!
got mine yesterday as well. It is good enough that I am selling my G-Tab and my Fujitsu Q550. Inking support with Writepad and notes Mobile is very good. Acer Iconia case works well until i get the Lenovo case.

By the way, anyone found usb drivers for this thing? I checked Lenovo's website and nothing. Called their tech support, but it was a monkey.
Is it possible to convert mobile notes to pdf?
I was looking at this tablet and was wondering if the pen itself is pressure sensitive like the HTC Flyer or that new one thats coming to AT&T?

I wonder if I can get this here in India for the same price, $99. Been waiting to buy this for a while.
anyone know if it's possible to load the pdf app with annotation capabilities from the Jetstream onto the Thinkpad? Seems superior to ezPDF or RepliGo.
Notes app ported
It would be great if we could get the notes app from the Jetstream/Flyer ported to Thinkpad. The evernote integration looks great.
Anyone know if this is possible?
I would post a link to the evernote blog post about it, but I do not have enough posts yet. If interested, go to evernote's blog:
blog [dot] evernote [dot] com and look for the post "HTC Tablets and Evernote" from 09-02-2011.
I would love to have that notes program on a 10" tablet, but $700 plus contract is way more than I can spend.
too expensive to make it worthwhile IMO
and it's only a Single processor
i'll much better go for any of they existing dual core android tablets
According to the Lenovo website, the thinkpad (the tablet with the pressure sensitive pen) has a tegra 2 dual core 1 GHz. And with a wifi only version for $500 is more in line with my budget. Just would love to have the note app from the htc jetstream.
And the att website lists the jetstream with a 1.5 GHz dual core snapdragon. So, I am not sure what tablet you are referring to as being only a single processor.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk
Realize now you were thinking of the ideapad instead of the thinkpad. It is only a single core (and also not worth it in my opinion). However, the dual core thinkpad, I think would be quite handy with the pressure sensitive pen.
I am an architect and frequently have to make sketches and annotate drawings during meetings, on the construction site, etc... Having them automatically sync to my evernote account (like the htc app) would be great.

I have installed the Evernote program and their Skitch add-on (they bought the company and made it freeware for Android: http://thenextweb.com/apps/2011/08/...android-app-ready-ios-and-windows-on-the-way/) and it works but it crashes frequently. Seems to be a problem when using the pen while the hand rests on the display at the same time. The built in lenovo application works fine though - and it recognizes the pressure of the pen too which Skitch doesn't.
Does the Lenovo come with an app that let's you draw on pdfs with the pen?

Yes, search YouTube. I saw someone demo it.
I have watched every YouTube I could find on this tablet up to Sunday. Despite its suboptimal layout of ports and cameras I am ordering one: hoping amazon gets some stock soon cause I don't want to wait a month on Lenovo!

Acer Print

Acer Print looks to be a big boon for Android printing. From the Acer Iconia A510 manual, here,
http://global-download.acer.com/GDF...A TAB&Step3=A510&OS=a09&LC=en&BC=Acer&SC=PA_6
you can print directly via USB cable or through your home wifi network. The list of supported printers are extensive, numbering in the thousands (it supports as old a printer as LaserJet 4). Printer list is attached below.
I'm curious, is there any other direct-printing (not cloud-printing) solution for Android?
Let's hope the utitility will make its way onto the A500/100.
looks good, but I have a Kodak printer and none are listed!
@e.mote..... I have an Epson Artisan 700 wifi "all-in-one" and a Canon MG5220 wifi "all-in-one" and I use two free apps from PlayStore. Both machines are connected to my wireless home network and both will print from my A500. The two apps are "Epson iPrint" and "Canon EPP". The Canon app will only print photos but can print PDF's (although to be honest I haven't tried PDF's ). The Epson app will print photos and documents.
Hope the info is useful to you
Some of the leaked ics roms have Acer print if you have a rooted tablet.
I know theres apps for printing but there is something sexy when I see acer print right in the settings
doesn't matter what I do acerprint can't find my canon mx347. Wrecking my head as in Taiwan we can't buy anything from market as google pulled all paid apps in Taiwan. There is no free alternative that doesn;t involve having your pc on or converting files to pdf.
edit: just noticed the zip file for supported printers and I'm not on the list. D'oh!
Just got a new printer today. I made sure it was on the list in OP. Got the HP Photosmart 6510 all in one wireless. I love it! It prints faster and better quality than my old old HP Deskjet 1220c.
Just tried the Acer Print from the A500. Worked great! Printed an image from the gallery. Although, it doesn't have an option for the 4x6 photo paper. Doubt I'll be printing very many photos from the tablet anyway. Most of my photo's are on my phone. But I'll definitely be printing from the browser!
how about an App called "PrinterShare" ?
I tried it in few printers, it works fine in PDF, DOC, and XLS.
I even hooked it up with Canon MP258 that connected to TP-link wireless printer server, and print flawlessly through wireless.
Can print either using wifi, bluetooth, or shared printer(through PC).
Code:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dynamixsoftware.printershare&hl=en
(sorry for the code, I can't link yet, too little post)
I use printershare. I like it a lot. It works on the phone and tablet. It was one of the amazon app of the day.

Yeah printer share does work good, I like the Acer print so I don't have to keep the amazon app store anymore

By all means correct me if I am wrong but although PlayStore shows "PrinterShare" as "Free" in fact doesn't this mean that it's just free to download. Does it not mean that you can only print 5 pages per month for free and if you want unlimited printing then you have to spend $12.95 for the purchased "key". To advertise a program such as this as free is utterly misleading, and anyone who posts in favour of the program should in all fairness mention this fact.

agree totally, I can't even get the 5 free pages. It just keeps asking for a purchase key and only lets me print test pages.

Create Power points on Nexus 7?

What is the best app to create powerpoint presentations on the nexus 7? Thanks in advance!
If you're okay with paying some money, OfficeSuite Pro is pretty good. And you can use it with Google Drive, Dropbox, Box.com and some other online file hosts. You can do Word, Excel and PowerPoint presentations.
---------- Post added at 08:28 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:26 PM ----------
As a free alternative you could also try Kingsoft Office. Not sure how good or bad it is but it has a 4.5 star rating so it must be pretty good for a free app.
Actually....
I've spent a LOT of time looking for an acceptable portable PowerPoint app, and the best I've found, by far, is
Office 2012 - Presentations Mobile
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...lications.presentations&feature=search_result
It's not well known, it is a bit pricey and all it does is PowerPoints, (although the developer makes other apps that mimic Word and Excel which also are pretty good.)
All the other 'office suite' apps have PowerPoint mini apps that are really only good for editing existing presentations and not really any good at all for delivering presentations. This one can actually do some heavy lifting.
While not without annoyances it works most seamlessly with PowerPoint and is the only one I found that support animations properly and preserves most formatting:good:.
There is also a limited trial version. Give it a try.

Just to make sure to clarify: You must be a paid Google Apps for Business customer, and even though QO is owned by Google, we're still classified as a third party app (if you have trouble logging it, your Apps admin may have locked out 3rd party apps from accessing Drive).
If you still want to use Quickoffice, but aren't a paid Google Apps for Business customer, you can always purchase the app directly via iTunes or Google Play, although I would definitely agree that the current version of QO may be better suited to making edits to and presenting existing presentations than building them from scratch.
+1 for OfficeSuitePro, I use it more for word and I wish the text editor had a dark theme (I wish Google drive had a dark theme, really), but for in the fly power points, it's very helpful. And if you don't mind waiting a bit, Microsoft Office intends to release an android optimized bpversion of their office suite next quarter. -Ara

Evernote integration with S Note

From Evernote Blog:
Evernote Now Integrated Into the Samsung Galaxy Note 3
Evernote’s goal is to help people around the world remember everything on every device that they use. Over the years, it’s been inspiring to see the range of smart products that have come to the market that incorporate Evernote, from phones and tablets to cameras and refrigerators.
Today, we’re very excited to announce a new partnership with Samsung that will deeply integrate Evernote into the core note taking capabilities of the popular Samsung Galaxy Note 3. Now, all S Note users will get the benefit of immediate note synchronization from their Samsung mobile device to every other device and computer where Evernote is installed. Like all notes in Evernote, they’ll instantly become searchable, can be tagged for quick organization and shared with others.
In addition, Evernote will offer S Note users increased monthly capacity to accommodate all of their notes, images and files.
Over the past several years, Samsung has continually created new and unexpected products that enhance the lives of consumers. We’re excited to be working with such an innovative and forward-thinking company.

Do you think that we'll see Note 8.0 S-note integration in the near future ?
I would most certainly think so. Seems to me that Evernote will (sort of) replace (or enhance) functionalities of S-Note and I couldn't see why this shouldn't work on other S-Pen-devices.
Probably we might have to wait somewhat longer though.

I don't think it would be wise of Samsung to not include the feature for other S-Pen-devices. There are lots of people who use a note II (and soon note 3) as their phone AND the Note 8 or 10 as their tablet. Not being able to sync between those just wouldn't make sense.

Manual sync of my Note 2 and 10.1 has screwed up all my notes. Some are even locked and I can't figure out how to unlock these. Hopefully Sammy has fixed this cross sync issues.

dropsync is one of the most essential apps i have ever used...i love it
I don't know about you guys but when I use dropSync it didn't work properly it constantly cause my snote to say syncing notes which took about a minute to finish
I was using it to sync my nose between my Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy note 10.1 but found it way too sluggish to work properly and use it as my daily driver for syncing notes between the two devices
this is why I really like the the evernote integration because not only will it sync between devices but I can sync it with my desktop as well
but curiously I haven't been able to find a single video or a tutorial on how this is supposed to work can somebody like one
I just bought the Note 3, and am a huge Evernote user so the new integration on the new version of S-Note has been awesome for me. The downside of having the Note 8.0 now is what is mentioned above. I used to use Dropsync to sync my S-Notes folders between my Note 2 and my Note 8.0. Now that the file types are different, .spd files rather than the older S-Note's .snb files, I can no longer do that. I even tried syncing S-Notes using my Samsung account hoping they would have some kind of conversion happen behind the scenes-no dice. I can view Notes created on my Note 3 (.spd) on my Note 8.0 via Evernote, or using this app I found on the Samsung App Store http://www.samsungapps.com/appquery/appDetail.as?appId=com.samsung.spdviewer , but I can no longer edit those new notes on my 8.0 due to the new file type. I'm really hoping Samsung hurries up with an update so I can have the new version of S-Note on my 8.0 and get back to my old syncing ways. If you want to know more about how Evernote is working with the Note 3, which will be the same on the new 10.1 2014 Edition, feel free to ask whatever questions you'd like. I've tested that a bunch now as well and have been happy with the results.

Hi Nate, I hope you are well and happy.
I currently use an original N7000 and in March 2014 (when my contract is up) I'll be looking to upgrade. I'll probably buy a new Galaxy note 3 as a handset (I'm in need of a new watch as well and the Galaxy Gear is a possibility) also air command looks sweet and I'm keen to try it.
I'm also hoping to buy my first tablet PC before January as I'm a motorcycling Computer Science under-grad and looking to reduce the weight I need to carry to university by leaving my 11.6 inch Acer Aspire 1825ptz touchscreen netbook at home and taking a thinner lighter tablet to lectures. I've been using Evernote for over 7 months now and love it, although I miss S-Note functionality a bit (running cyanogen 10.2-20131107-nightly-n7000 mod.) I was considering buying the 8 inch Galaxy Note but having read this thread I'm more inclined to get the 10.1 inch 2014 Note now.
I'll mostly be reading papers (.pdf) on it in the Kindle app (see attached) which I'll want to annotate as I'm reading, view powerpoint presentations in it (I use kingston office for this on my N7000 so I for see no problems with the 10.1 inch) again that I'll want to take notes onto.
I guess what I'd like to know please:
1. How exactly do the 2 apps integrate? Is it you open SNote and it's got a share to ever note option? Or vica versa? Or are they completely integrated into one app?
2. Do you think a Galaxy 3 / Gear / 10.1 inch 2014 Note is the optimal solution for the remainder of my studies and then more importantly do you think it'd be a good solution for a trainee teacher? (yrs 11 - 18)
3. Did I read somewhere that the 10.1 inch or the Galaxy 3 is going to have an IR blaster? (I could use a decent remote control)
Thanks in advance for any help / youtube review / links to relevant posts / URL's you can give.
All I want is Inking support in Evernote. The only reason I use S-Note at all is because of its default support for inking notes, but if I could use the stylus in Evernote on both my Windows 8 and Android devices, I'd be set.

real pen?

There is a reason why it's called Real-Pen. The ones you refer to are just Stylus in different qualities.
The Yoga Book uses a REAL Pen, as you can use it as Stylus but also as a PEN with REAL Ink...
I am not referring to links where to get one from, as it sound to fishy to get a YB on Craiglist without it's included accessories. IMHO that pen has an owner, but the YB came to different hands.
The small stylus from a Samsung Note will *sort of* work in the sense that the Halo keyboard will recognize it and you can write, draw, or use it as a cursor. I *think* (but not sure) that it is pressure sensitive.
Obviously, it has no ink, so you can't draw on the paper, and it doesn't work on the LCD screen but I taped a bent-over paper clip onto the back end, so I *can use it (carefully!).
[Edit] I just checked, and the Samsung pen *is* pressure sensitive.

It's not clear whether the Yoga book will be able to detect its movement while writing with it on a piece of paper positioned over the keyboard. I'm going to buy one and try it out, I'll post the results here.

It did work when I posted the link. In the meantime, the real pen got tagged as "sold out" ("ausverkauft" in German), though.
I found Lenovo UK is still offering real pens for sale, only thing is they don't ship outside the UK. I had to get a UK freight forwarding address from the post office in my country before I could order one.
