Voice typing?Resolved - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What happened to voice typing? I factory resetted my phone and have lost it again. What gives? I used it very often!
How do I get it back?
Update: if you disable Google search, it also takes away the voice typing. I enabled Google search to test it and it appeared on my keyboard.

i meant when the keyboard pops up its on the top right, also make sure ur settings in the main keyboard screen are ticked

It's not there...that's the problem. Look at the pic I attached. It was a third input method, Samsung keyboard, Google keyboard and voice typing.

I figured it out. You can't disable Google search or along with it goes voice to text!

try the new app "Voice Typing Keyboard" VTK... much better, no microphone button to push, just say "listen" or "spelling" when in text field and start dictation, can move cursor around, insert punctuation, symbols, do editing formatting etc, all with voice

Camera trick (voice commands)

I stumbled upon this and think it's very useful using the camera. Taking self pics with the rear shooter is cumbersome sometimes and always mis-tap the shutter button.
Using voice commands to shoot is really neat. Shame Samsung tucks these neat features away and don't advertise them.

it does, I tried with camera and music
Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2
OK. I've never tried the included music player, I use Poweramp.
I can't find the music player in the App drawer. I'm stock Tmo. I've disabled a few apps. Can see the music player in the settings>App. Manage >all, and it's not disabled.
I can put the the widget on the home screen but it didn't seem to respond to next or pause. I've checked all boxes and the camera works with voice (which is very cool).
Is the Music Player an App as opposed to the widget? Was I just not doing it right?
it doesnt seem to work for me. So basically when my phone alarms i just yell out stop? Or is there any other thing i need to do?

Very top is what my icon looks like in Sprint. First time took me a whole to find it
Also just tried the alarm commands, it works
Just use those specific voice commands it lists

Google Pinyin Settings

Hi guys,
I was just checking out the Play Store today for any app updates & my Nexus 7 saw an update for the Google Pinyin settings for Chinese text input.
I didn't know it was even installed at all. Now its put an app in my app drawer, and no option to uninstall it.
Has anyone else noticed this? A bug perhaps?
I know I can uninstall the updates, but don't want to in case there was a security patch in there.

Instead uninstalling the update you can freeze it it with no problems to stop it showing the available update.

look on the positive side. it's motivation to start learning Chinese
Go to settings>app and click the all panel. Find Google pinyin and disable. Done.

I have that along with a Google Korean keyboard too. Weird
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Same here.
Off topic but I'm a little disappointed that the Pinyin keyboard has the ability to long-press for numbers and yet the default keyboard does not. I'm tempted to just use the Pinyin keyboard...
No need to go all emo with the Chinese/Korean/Japanese keyboards. It just saves Google from having to release localised firmware images. Unlike many xda members I actually use the Chinese (Pinyin) and Japanese (iWnn) keyboards.

people use the stock keyboard?!?
j/k. that is weird. is it like that on JB phone keyboards too?
Yep, I'm the only one.

I just started learning chinese and wanted to try Google Pinyin. Unfortunately my version seems to be completely in Chinese. When I enter the settings ("Settings" → "Language & keyboard settings") the keyboard's name and all the settings for it are in Chinese characters. I'd like to change the time for drawing a character but I'm completely lost here ... Does anyone know a way to change the language somehow?
EDIT: Just found a way: My system's language was set to German. I switched to English and now all the settings of Google Pinyin are in English

This makes the most sense to me. I think the apk is the problem, not the phone. It could also be that the apk is specifically compiled for an incompatible device.
You're not using SCREEN FILTER when trying to install non-market, are you?
Don't ask me why....

Haha, yeah, I had the same trouble many months ago! I was baffled! I knew I was doing everything right, but nothing would work!
Also, just so you know, you don't need to uninstall it, you just can't have it activated when you try to install apps. I guess you just can't install apps while it's dimming your screen, but I still can't understand why.
Glad that worked for you! !

Annoying pop up alerts

I've been getting these ever since I updated to 4.3 I believe... Its not a popup that's in the notification shade, rather one that pops right in the middle of the screen, and it shows an advertisement for an app saying download free from play store (I think it had advertised a free game "paradise island") and then it tries to say why it recommended that app by showing other downloads i made off the play store.
Are these normal/from the play store or are they from a spammy app? Please help, thanks!

Nothing detected, its not something that's filling up my notification shade just a nasty popup. I went through all the games I had in my phone (not many, just 6) and unchecked the "allow notifications" option in the app settings menu. I haven't gotten one tonight, but next time I do get it I can screenshot it...

Sounds like a malicious app though, I haven't heard of popups on a phone not related to SMS notifications, or halo.

Check what is running, take a screenshot of what is running, if you don't see an app which shouldn't be there then go to the cached processes area above.

That only disables app scanning. I am talking about the app itself turning itself back on inside the app manager from a disabled state.
You can use this app to disable any bit of bloatware you have. I'm using it and I haven't had lookout come back. It's paid, but I find it an investment because I usually get Samsung devices only
