Will Lollipop save my Moto X? - X 2014 General

I've been using the Moto X for a few days now and getting increasingly frustrated with it because Motorola have removed/changed features in their not so "Pure Android" build.
At this point I've already requested Motorola to arrange a return.
My main gripes are 2 features that I used daily:
1. They appear to have removed internet calling from the dialer, I can no longer receive calls on my business SIP line without third party software.
2. The equaliser doesn't work with bluetooth headphones. This device actually makes Beats Studio Wireless headphones sound tinny. I've tried a couple of the "top rated' EQ apps but the Moto X still sounds inferior to the Nexus 5.
Could anyone with Lollipop possibly confirm if either of these standard features on a Nexus device are available in Moto X Lollipop?

Internet dialer is a nexus exclusive. Not sure about the equalizer on Bluetooth.
Have you tried side loading the nexus dialer? I believe there is a thread in the themes and apps section.

Google Dialer

I thing this is not a dialer issue. If you're rooted, unzip attached file and put it into the system/etc/permissions. Than change permissions of the file to rw-r-r. Find internet calling in your dialer menu and set credentials. If you succeed please leave the observations. Especially how the voice sound on the other end (possible distortion or echo).

This is a bit of an improvement from the default dialer, you get the caller id stuff but no internet calling.

I'll give this a try later and see if it works, fingers crossed as carrying 3 phones around is a massive pain!

Im on lollipop. Don't see SIP options in dialer. Google voice is an option for internet calking ,as its integrated into hangouts now.
As far as EQ, stock one doesn't do Bluetooth but I'm using this eq which does

Ive been having similar issues with my audio out, either in my car or with my headphones. The max output is considerably lower than my HTC 8X and overall i found it to be kind of flat even with a good EQ. Ive tried over 10 different EQ including using a local player like Poweramp that has good controls but it doesnt make any real difference.
Ive actually found a benchmark for audio out and it does seem that this phone is being held back. Music is a big part of the use for my phone so if i cant get it right I may also return mine. I have been doing some reading and it sounds like ViPER4ANDROID may fix the problem but you will have to root your device. Ive never done that before but XDA has a ton of very helpful resources so I am consider trying it.
the benchmark can be found over at Phone Arena, sorry im not able to post the link since im still a new user.

There's a workaround for native SIP here for moto g, i think it would work for moto x 2014,too.

I'm just waiting for Faux123 kernel once stable Lollipop is released

I thought the DAC was part of the the snapdragon 801 processor, both the M8 and moto x have the same 801

I've been quite busy and haven't had a chance to try any of the suggested solutions yet, but I need to send the phone back now so will try and check them out before I do.
The phone has grown on me and if it wasn't for the fact I just ordered another X on the Cyber Monday deal for £100 cheaper I would have kept it after all.

Have you been able to test the mod for SIP VoIP? I'm also missing this feature coming from my Nexus...
PS
Merry Christmas!

The lack of Bluetooth Audio EQ is pretty frustrating, I agree. I will try Viper4Android eventually but I worry that it might bypass the dedicated audio chipset, significantly increasing battery drain.

It's even worse with Lollipop, I was using Bass Booster Pro which worked great on Kitkat but is non-functional on Lollipop...
I've been using my Nexus 5 for listening to music as the Moto X fails miserably in this area.

I followed the instructions in this Moto G thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g/general/mod-enable-native-sip-voip-calls-t2826500
and it unleashed the SIP VoIP features on my XT1095 a la Nexus!
I have successfully registered and dialed using my voip.ms account (too late to actually connect and talk... will do so in the morning). Note that the option dialog actually shows both the cellular operator by name as well as my voip.ms username for selection rather than just the Nexus generic options.

hey i know the whole OMG APPS2SD WE HAVE ROOT thing is big around here. but i dont have use for apps2sd at all. i have 14 apps and i change firmware like 9001 times a day when something new comes out. but i have 2gigs of OGG music files. and every firmware i have used ends up bugging out when im playing music and i get a notifacation with the usb headphone adapter connected. could we get a firmware optimized for music and enjoying it instead of showing off our rooted phones with no real use behind it. redirect this post if you need to. i know the whole "WRONG FORUM TOPIC LOCKED" thing happens alot here.
you can try the getting the EQ mod or the Max volume mod as well
would there be any use in me attempting to set up the sdk and pulling an all nighter to learn how to make my own NON BLEEDING EDGE but very stable release? cuz i would love to just have a stable phone with every volume thing and EQ pre installed. and that pesky sound service bug, dats gotta get fixed.

has preinstalled max volume, also a selection of the roms
You don't need the sdk to use the audio mods. Read a little bit more, and you will discover that you can use lucidrem's script to download the the audio mods without a pc. It takes a little patience, some time, and using the terminal. But it is easy if you follow the instructions. Also the developer of the audio mods also has several custom roms with the mods built in.
Edit. If you want a stable Rom use jf1.51, thedudes 1.2b you can add the audio mod on top of the using the bat files that comes with the audio mods
i'll try out *** - JF1.51 CRB43 US with V2 then. im used to using the terminal, its not a problem to mod my own, but being able to just quickly flash my phone back is too tempting. and @ubernicholi, i was meaning the sdk to build my own firmware as a whole. i assume its going to take me a while to understand why this whole multiple firmware bidness is a good thing, when its basicly taking all the newest unsupported code from the tree, and applying it and modifying it for the Dream handset, and in doing so, giving it 3rd party support. like downloading windows xp black pirate edition on TPB, to me its useless. ahhh the beauty of open source ^__^
why not go back to stock? it's not bleeding edge and it'll play your music just fine.
theres no shame in that.
wait. no, no...there is shame. terrible, terrible amounts of shame.
yea, but then i cant use debian. which is pretty cool so far.

lol I apologize I couldn't resist. So if a music centric build is what you are looking for, then it would be possible to strip out a lot of unnecessary features. First off, I think Google sync which is constantly running in the background can be taken out. Applications that are constantly refreshing, such as Mail can be removed. I understand you have apps to SD currently installed. Try internalizing the Music.apk, moving it back into the faster more reliable internal memory. Moreover, a good place to start I believe would be with the Google Ion build, which is lightning fast.
if i knew how to do that, i would slim down a stock JF update.
I think you should start out by flashing to Google Ion. Then, using ADB on your computer, enter ADB shell and being to manually remove the unnecessary applications. Whatever you don't need, take it out. As for Google sync, go to settings and disable it. Also in settings, disable notifications. At a point, you can even just turn off the radio and switch to airplane mode. That way no other services are running and you can listen to music uninterrupted, at the cost of not being able to accept calls.
wow, thanks for the support. i was looking at ION and thinking that it would be perfect. but im not really sure how to set up the development on fedora 11.

Ion FTW.
You set it up the same as you do on any other distro...
and...
what do you honestly do with debian on your phone?
As in on your computer? Are you running Linux or any operating system based on Linux? If so, unfortunately I can't help you there, I mostly use Windows and occasionally Wubi ):
(In all honesty I have very little knowledge when it comes to running Linux on a computer, so sorry about that haha)
I forgot to add, maybe increase your processor clock speed to 528Mhz. Look for an app called SetCPU. It is here on the forums for free, as the creator is among us or alternatively download it from the market, however it is a paid app on their.
if u use ion use R1 its faster than R2 in my opinion
i use um that overclock widget, i love that thing, works so well. umm. debian on my phone is pretty cool. it has potential. umm i might set this up and get a small release with just my name and roadmap on it.

Hmm.. looking at your signature, overclocking your PC, and even getting Debian to work in the first place, I think you are definitely capable and very experienced. Best of luck to you
Let us know if you are able to get that stripped down version of Google Ion working. I would do it, but I don't know how to resign updates and I just finally settled down on Haykuro 6.0.1 after a ROM struggle between JAC's Hero, TwistedUmbrella's Hero and JF1.51 where I was flashing a new ROM on a daily basis.
my only thing is my work ethic and lack of programming experiance. if anyone could help me get started. hell, i might actually post something in the android development outlining the project goals and stuff like that.

[Q] Is there any Real Time Voice changer in phone calls??

I know there are some voice changers in the market to record your voice and transform it ussing effects, but i would love to see some app doing that in realtime in phone calls, changin your voice to female for example, for pranks or even for inapropiate and undecent calls.
Does anyone know of an app like this?
And please, take the possible legal debate out of here!
Thanks!
Would like to know this too, hehehehe.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.itellas.app.spoofpro
Something like this you mean ?
Yes, but that is a service offered by a company, you have to dial a number in the United states, and they do all the work and you have to buy minutes.
I was thinking an app like voice changer. you record something and it transforms your voice to alien, helium, etc. and i have to say it does it very quick so hardware shouldn't be a limitation for a phone to do it itself realtime in middle of a call.
I ask just because i could not find it in the market, 200.000 apps and no voice changer for a device that is intended primarily for talking.
I doubt that there's anything.
You would need a real low audio latency to preserve a reasonable call and as far as I know, it's currently impossible to achieve that with Android.
Just have a look at all those iOS applications, there are even professional audio apps etc..
If you're interested in the issue, then have a look here:
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=3434
I think it may have something with the "blurphone.apk", it record the voice and transmit it in real time. It is possible when someone develop a software to replace it. But it is a system app and I haven't found a similar third party app yet.
But it would still require some sort of audio processing algorithm, which would increase the latency too much to perform a normal call.
It would be like Skype with a bad connection.. you say something and the other person would hear your voice half a second late.
[Q] Play a background sound during a call
Wrong Place
Play a .mp3 file during a call... is it possible?
Would like to know this too uhauhuauauhauh nice pranks
As I would love to have such an app too, I have done some research in the net with the result: NO. unfortunatelly.. because of hardware issues as it would need to much ressources for the real time voice changing (as kaffeekranz allready mentioned).
But: there are several hardware solutions. Little devices, which you hold in front of your phone while talking. That works not so bad even with cheap devices from ebay - I have tested it allready.
I'm very sure that this must be possible - my sister had a cheap chinese-phone, branded trustingly with "digital mobile digital phone"(even had a sushi game and TV) - And this crap-phone had built-in voicechanger. You just activated it before placing a normal call, and you'd sound like a baby, a deep male voice, a robot or w/e, could choose from 7-8 predefined voices.
If it can be done on a cheap knock-off(far from a smart-phone), then surely it should be possible on at least a rooted phone?

is exactly what I'm after, but without going by WiFi, all scrambling should be done internally, between the mic picking up the sound and sending it to the other party.
Edit: This app seems to claim it has live/realtime changing, but nothing regarding calls:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.mikrosonic.DroidVox
http://www.mikrosonic.com/droidvox
that's great! I cant believe there's no prank app in the market doing the same
That would be nice. I want to call to my 5 years old son and pretend that I'm Santa Claus and ask him about his year to know if he deserves his christmas gift.
Chinese phones have it
How come cheap chinese phones have it and a super smart phonr like android doesnt? This sucks. I have a 40 buck chinese phone that can not only change my voice to many different voices, it can also give me background noises...i know background noises are not a big deal to code, but voice changing shouldent be impossible... I really hope someone comes up with this very usefull app...
Isn't this just forbidden by law? Maybe that's why Google doesn't put it into Android and those Chinese phones do have it..
Really wanted an app like this, wonder y third parties dont make it

Kaffeekranz seems to have hit the nail on the head I think...

I think this link does tell the story... need a low level interface directly to do realtime full duplex modification of communications.
We might have reached forbidden grounds here..
There could be a conspiracy at hand, there are no apps that can change your voice while talking on the phone, because we are being monitored, and your phone calls listened..and recorded
How about legal complications maybe? I knox that in some countries voice changing is illegal unless you tell the other person you have. Just like recording too.

KitKat Mods / Adjustments / etc

Hi All,
I know with the release of the new 4.4.2 OTA there are mods and adjustments floating around in many different threads (including the new entitlement hack in the Droid Ultra thread - thanks @iBolski !)
I thought I'd make a new thread to consolidate all of the adjustments as they come in. Feel free to post up what you've found and/or done, as well as a link to the thread you found it so others can profit from the knowledge as well. Not sure if this type of idea has been started somewhere as of yet, if so feel free to let me know and we can have this one closed / deleted.
Pending how interested people are, how lengthy / involved the thread gets, I can even do my best to make a "table of contents" with mods, post #s, and credit due where it should be in the second post so people can find what they're looking for with as much ease as possible.
Enjoy!

Yeah, I read that right after I posted

Atrix lapdock with Razr HD Maxx
When I received my atrix lapdock I needed to turn the connectors 180 degrees for the phone to plugin. Found here post #4 has pictures.

Otherwise it was a plug in play affair, at least for tablet mode. I used apex launcher for tablet mode and set DPI to 240. Also I used gravitybox with xposed to put the softkeys on the bottom while in landscape mode. I was watching netflix on it last night and it worked great. Only thing I need to look into is the sound. It only has one setting, Full volume or mute, when using volume rocker on the phone or function keys on keyboard. Some of these edits require root in 4.4 kitkat which as of now is only available if you have an unlocked bootloader.
*Edit I used the app soundabout (no root required) ]from the play store to switch my audio output to my phone speaker and was able to control it using the keyboard shortcuts. Good enough work around for me considering sound output.

[MOD][PORT] Samsung Gear 360 Manager (Universal mod for any devices with Android 5.0)

Now as a remote for Gear 360, you can use any phone with Android 5.0 or higher!
This level of compatibility we were able to achieve due to the fact that our programmer was removed by the LiveView module (preview in real time)..
Therefore, even on slower and older phones like Samsung GALAXY S4 and Note 3 this app works and allows you to change Exposure settings, white Balance, HDR as well as set limits ISO. And most importantly, to remotely control shutter release on spherical camera Gear 360 to making photos the precisely the right moment, not when the timer expires.
This modification is based on modification of established respected Bin4ry.
Mods:
1.) Removed LiveView to support all devices (by Dionis10)
2.) Replaced by UI icons on a large and high quality (Designed by Admin ALLGe.RU)
3.) Removed device lock (by Bin4ry)
Requested and paid for the creation of this modification: ROSTOVisualFX
Installation requirements:
1. Any devices from any manufacturer with the OS Android 5.0 or higher.
2. You need to install Samsung Accessory Service (You will be prompted to install this component automatically after you install Gear 360 Manager).
We recommend you to install our mod, in case if on Your device is not running LiveView in the mod from Bin4ry or You don't need LiveView or You want to save battery charge camera and phone without LiveView.

Like the Z3 has a built-in recording function of the screen - if not more difficult please remove the video of how it works. I failed to connect SGS4 to SYVR360, can I something not so do.

I don't know how to use the built-in record function, what do you want to know ?
Hi,
I use the Galaxy S5 with Android 6.0.1. and the latest firmware on Gear 360.
I tried the app By Bin4ry, but due to problems with the live view I could not use. I installed the app By ROSTOVisualFX and may be used, make a photo, but not a stich panorama (only up to 60-70%).
Is there a solution for this problem?
Regards,
Midhat
Does not work on my Pixel. Attempted on Nexus7 and the app at least opens but unable to control camera.

Read carefully the page on allge.ru - stitching panoramas on your phone is not supported! Do stitching of panoramas on the computer is easier and better with the latest version of ActionDirector.

samsung s4
Hi guys
great work!!!
I need information about samsung s4, my last app version don't work (no preview) , i've write it in the forum a few months ago.
I can use this way to use my phone?
It would be enough to use the LivePreview just to see the shots before recording and to make some adjustments.
Any chance for an update?

OPPO Watch International Version

Hey Guys,
Just bought an OPPO Watch, Australia Wear OS.
For me at least the watch is pretty good, Still needs some software/firmware development but very fast and for me the battery lasts two days easily.
Couple of observations that others may be able to help with or ideas.
After watching several YouTube videos there appears to be (on the Chinese version) about 3 times more watch faces available. Only seems to be about 13 available to me on the international version. And they are not very practical faces.
Also the Chinese version seems to come with an app called "App Market" where you can download apps (and faces) specific to the oppo watch. A bit like Samsung watches. This app is nowhere to be found on my OPPO Watch.
It has a few quirks, The inbuilt timer (which is a direct visual copy of Apple watch) gives no audio notification when finished if you are wearing the watch. However if you are not wearing it then there is an Audio notification(very strange).
Anyway maybe others will engage in this discussion.
Cheers
Chris
I have already my 2nd Oppo Watch and it suffers from a screen burned-in issue. If you enable the Always-On-Display, after few hours you can see the ghost image:

}
You can clearly see in the background the "X" coming from the one of the default Oppo watchfaces.
I have reported it to the customer care in Poland, they've sent me a new one with the same issue:
After reporting it back, they did some test on multiple other parts and proved the issue is there on all of them and it's unsolvable. It looks like Oppo released an untested product with a major screen issue. Only thing they offered me is the money back...
Burn in is not good! Wait for next generation....
Thats really bad. Surly we got over the screen burning issues with devices back in the days of plazma TVs. My very First Apple Watch original had the same burn in problem, however that seemed to be fixed with a firmware update.
Fortunately its not really a problem for me. I am not a fan of always on displays , and never use them on Watches or phones.
^^ yes, I understand that the screen burn in is something that must happen after some time (like months) of usage, but not after few hours!
Anyway, I fully agree with you - when you don't use AOD, you probably won't have this issue. Moreover, if you turn the screen off completely for few hours (for example overnight) then the ghost image is gone. It's back again after about 2-3 h of AOD.
I hope to get this fixed by FW update instead of money back.
Oppo just confirmed the issue and they will be rolling out an update this week that is supposed to minimise this issue. We will see...

Hopefully any update will also fix the issues I raised in my first post. Very limited number of watch faces available to international customers. And no access to the oppo app store.
I think the international version will never gain the access to the Oppo App Store, as this is only for the China Market. The Chinese model itself is not based on WearOS so they had to invent some substitute to the Google Play Store in order to allow users to download apps. Similar situation happened to Huawei when they had to remove Google Services.

I have checked your issue with the timer and indeed - it behaves the same on mine. But if you don't like it, you can just install the Google one and this one works fine.

The lack of the Oppo App store is probably not a big deal. Just that from videos I have seen they have access to some terrific watch faces (mostly copies of apple watch ones). As for the timer, glad to know you have the same problem. I too installed the Google one and works fine. I just think the inbuilt one is more elegant.
A great App to install for notifications is "Feel the Wear"
I have found another issue. This one with the clock. After 2-3 weeks the clock is showing time +1 minute, although it is getting the time from the phone all the time. The phone itself has correct time. To fix it you have to force the time synchronization (in the watch settings disable auto time and enable back).
Frankly speaking it's a bit ridiculous that the watch can't display the time properly...
So I got today the promised software update. Looks like they've replaced the AOD screen of the mentioned watch face with an AOD of another watch face (the one with animated "flower") so it doesn't display the X anymore. Additionally they've introduced small movement of the AOD screen every few mins so that not always the same pixels are used to display the content. This seems to have fixed the issue.
Btw., Chris, the issue with the timer is still there

That is pretty bad. Although I don't think that time synchronization problem is exclusive to Oppo Watch. Years ago I had an LG android watch and it use to get out of sync with just about everything.
Fortunately I don't have the problem you describe on my Oppo Watch. I live in a border town where one side is on Daylight saving time and the other not, so I imagine the clock is synchronizing several times a day.
