HTC Desire, Unlock Bootloader, Root and Install Stock Android Lollipop - General AOKP Discussion

I recently got an HTC Desire and I was wondering if It was possible to do the stuff mentioned in the title, personally I just want to get rid of all the HTC bloatware that takes up more than half my internal storage, and flash a stock clean 5.0 Rom

Is it possible to reinstall the OTA onto the device to see if it picks it up after manually updating it?
I'm trying to read up if the OTA was usable on both the G2 and Desire Z.

Well that's what I did, I manually updated to ota, rooted installed the Z Rom but its not picking it up its doing connecting to tmo like it was doing on the vanilla froyo prior to ota so there are more files needed than the WiFi calling apk

Haha! Well, it might help if there was actually a question in your first post
But in presuming you're looking to root it, check the Development topics, lots of ROM's to choose from, guides in there to follow on step by step instructions on how to do it.
I would suggest reading through those first before asking questions though as many people ask the same questions
Yeah im familiar with roms ect but i just wanted to no if his model was compatible with visionary thanks for help dude also its branded tmobile so would i make a goldcatd before or after rooting to debrand

yep it will, before you flash a custom rom though, you need to check out the 2 s-off tools in the developent section (Radio & ENG) after you root, run both of thoes tools from your pc, you can then use rom manager to install clockworkmod recovery, then your free to install all the custom roms you want
After you install Clockwork, don't forget to take a backup of your T-Mobile ROM just in case anything happens you can flash it back to stock.
Yeah cool guys so
1. Root with visionary.
2.Permroot
3. S.off ENG
4. Install rom manager and install clockwork.
5. Flash rom?

You should get radio s-off as well as eng s-off ng
Sent from my Desire HD pocket rocket.
Then you can go on dev boards and learn about radios and things like that, but that is the stuff that can brick you're phone as my friend recently found out with his desire HD, but if you follow instructions and don't unplug half way through :L you should be fine!
I no about radios and roms im a desire user just needed help sorting my bros dhd for him

I had that, i rooted and unbranded and it went, it's because you are on branded firmware it will always come up do you have vodafone 360 apps aswell?
If you root & apply ENG S-OFF you can flash a new splash screen. You can even make your own custom one if you like.
Yeah I have the 360 app and music app and some other stuff, could someone please point me in the right direction to root + debrand desire hd please many thanks

[Q] HTC system update on phone with clockworkmod

Hi there,
I read a bit about jail breaking the HTC Desire HD and I'm quite impressed by the advantages I would get. However, before doing that I was wondering to what extend I can still use the System Updates by HTC. Would I still be able to install them? Or would I need to install a new clockworkmod version which includes the HTC System Updates? I'm a bit lost ...
Thanks,
Rlaf
Answer is if u root u cant get over the air updates anymore but u cood download and install custom roms which are better in my opinion. I rooted using a great tutorial i can try find it if u want

Sweet. The link would be great. Could you send me links about custom ROMs as well? Thanks!
I'm in the same boat as you, still considering rooting and using a different rom. From what I saw so far cyanogenmod seems the coolest and has a ton of users so community support should be plentiful. Still trying to read up on the custom radios.

Download all these Apps and install them.
Backup the things you want to backup (will be saved to sd)
Flash new rom.
Install Apps again and restore the data

Sorry, I must be blind. Is there a link or something I should click on? I skimmed through the forum; not sure where the apps are nor the Rom I should use to upgrade.
You go to android nand section on xda and choose rom you want and download these Apps through market.
Sry that's what you asked for and that's it.

Do you recommend a specific nand? I'm on t-mobile US.

So 3.0 is the latest software? I thought it was 2.3. Yeah, I've been gone too long.
2.3.4 is latest.
