[Q] Can i install 4.4.2 kitkat GOOGLE EDITION on my lg g2 - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Fist of all sorry if i post in the wrong place.
I am a new android user. I was an iphone owner.
I bought the lg g2 last week.
The phone is from France (lg D802) and came with kitkat 4.4.2 edited by lg.
Is there any way i can install the official 4.4.2 google edition?
I know that my question is no simple. Send me a link here or on you tube to read about it.
Thank you in advance

There isn't a "Google edition" for this phone.
What you could do though, is to root and install a recovery, followed by choosing a ROM that resembles stock google.
But please be careful. The ROM MUST SAY. MUST MUST MUST say that it is made for the d802
Also, before beginning anything please install LG drivers and google for "adb and fast boot" then install it (there are links on XDA for it.
Read carefully before doing anything You may want to try LG's software for a little while first to get used to android first, especially since the iPhone is quite different. Rooting can be a little overwhelming at first

Jelly Bean or ICS for Google IO 10.1? How to?

So it now seems clear that OTA will NOT come for the very nice Google IO version of this device, I recently learned that the rooted versions will handle DRM material from Google play,,(correct?) so I think I'm ready to take the plunge,,
Any advice and step by step instructions? Is there a good JB version (if I'm going to do it might as well go all the way?)
Have not rooted the thing at all, so a bit nervous,, I have installed early ADB's on other devices.. so I get generally how the process should go,, but of course the 10.1 is different and the GIO one is even different from all the rest.
Direction/advice and cautions appreciated.. I love the device and don't want a brick in it's place..
And yes I have both the Nexus 7 and Galaxy Nexus from this year's GIO...
Thanks in advance!:fingers-crossed:
You need to make use of the search feature here. Lots of great info on rooting and flashing.
The Google I/O version is a different build and doesn't get any updates pushed to it by Samsung.
Thanks but...

Yes I have been searching diligently but as you note the GIO tab is "different" so it is not clear which run and which are eligible solutions.
I see from the views that a number are interested in this question but from searching I don't see great solutions..
It seems that the JB versions are not fully baked.
The ICS versions each seem to have issues and it is not clear which if any are running smoothly on the GIO version.
Hence my attempt by asking the question, to gain some authoritative clarity!
The google io version is the same just is fully unlocked by default. Samsung has indeed pushed more then 1 update to this device in the past. Doesn't seem like they will further. It is NOT 100% GOOGLE on this tab... Not sure why everyone thinks so. Anyways, anything that runs on the retail versions will run on the io just make sure u don't flash a new bootloader keep the one u already have. Use Odin to flash a custom recovery then use that recovery to flash a CUSTOM Rom. I'm running cm10 with very few problems

Thanks! That helps!
That will help a lot.. The clarity on how the GIO version fits in is the main thing that was confusing me.
Now I have a path to follow.. I think.. The CM10 looks very tempting with JB from what I have been reading here,, I take it the only somewhat real issue is the front camera?

Sorry but need pointers..
A quick scan and I could not locate the Odin recovery instructions or software, and can you clarify that you mean the CM10 rom, not sure if you are implying something more by specifying CUSTOM Rom?
Anything I need to know about Not replacing the bootloader?
I'm assuming that I can ignore instructions relating to rooting/unlocking? Since it is a GIO device?
Do i need to do anything special to keep apps/access to app store, Google provided apps Gmail etc or does CM10 have all the basics??
Sorry to be so basic...Just don't want to end up with a shiny brick!

Google is your friend. You'll find ODIN and instructions on how to use it easily.
I believe you have to flash or install the Google Framwork apk separately. I'm sure the CM10 folks have a sticky or FAQ to help.
Read as much as you can about the process before doing it!
Found this on Odin on Android Authority
this appears to answer some of my questions at least where to find Odin
http://www.androidauthority.com/gal...kmod-recovery-5-5-0-4-custom-recovery-102580/
But of course I want to go to CM10 so I need to think how that modifies things...

Root Exploit for Tmobile LG G2 Kitkat

Have updated my Tmobile LG G2 to Kitkat and want to debloat it (as I actually like the LG UI). However everything I google about Rooting just links to Kitkat being available but not how (or if) you can root it.
I assume that IORoot22 will only work with 4.2.2, and vroot/kingofroot don't work either, so does anyone know a way to do this?
Thanks in advance
This should be in the Q&A section

there is currently no way of rooting T-Mobile's Official KK update.
your best option at the moment is to flash back to 4.2.2 via KDZ > Root + Custom Recovery > Flash SmiLey's Stock KK ROM ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2664652 ) > Flash SuperSU zip before rebooting (Recovery will be lost after reboot).
or wait until an exploit is found, there are at least 3 threads discussing this exact thing in the G2 General Section
edit: This thread seems to be the most promising so keep an eye on it (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2667227)

Must have been moved it was originally in the Dev Section.
Okay, I somehow rooted my tmobile LG G2 with Kitkat, ran for awhile than did something (don't know what) that removed okay google function from home screen and slowed the google search to a snails pace.
So, like an idiot, I thought I'd just put it back to stock with the D80120a.KDZ. rebooted and restarted everything. BUT the phone still shows rooted in download mode, but rootchecker says I'm not rooted. Also tried to run SuperSU but it says no binary and won't load. Tried Flashify (to try and flash the SU zip) but it also said I couldn't flash because I'm not rooted.
So I ran LG R&D, none of my phone info shows - ran upgrade trying to return it to D80110c/g, but each time it says I'm current and nothing happens.
Have googled every possible search and can't find a fix.
No longer have recovery, because of the stock flash... So I'm in dire need of assistance. Can anyone help me?

Noob guide.

Just wondering if there is anything special to know about rooting etc on the G2. Or is it as simple as others? I have had MANY android phones from Xperias to Galaxy's, htcs and most recently the Nexus 4.
Is there a noob guide on here I can't find much but admittedly I'm on Tapatalk at the minute.
How do I unlock boot loader or even can I?
Can I just fastboot flash a custom recovery?
What is this root checking that voids warranty is it like Samsung yellow triangle?
Sorry if any of this is stupid but I've never had an LG.

first things first what model of g2 do you have/ are planning on getting(to recommend proper rooting method), anyways I recommend ioroot for rooting your device(easiest way and lots of support), second to unlock bootloader and flash roms/kernels without issues you need to loki your device or get a twrp/cwm with loki built in to it. As for flashing recovery the easiest is to use freegee from the play store and choose which recovery you would like to use, once rooted the root check is in download mode it will say if it's rooted or not but using lg flash tool and going to stock removes this and there aren't any stupid questions if I do say so myself. Hope this helps any thing else let us know

That does help thanks I've learnt to ignore the unhelpful and ignorant.
It is just the international version it should arrive tomorrow. So from what I understand I can follow any root and boot loader unlock guide that matches my version. And can fully return to stock with no traces or issues?

yea pretty much as long as you don't flash the wrong file everything will be smooth anyways this is the international thread(http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g2/development-d802) so you can sart planning what you want to do once it arrives and trust you gonna love it
also:
root- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48709232&postcount=869 (latest ioroot and drivers)
rooting instructions- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2448887
recovery twrp- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2449670 (I prefer twrp)
recovery cwm- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2468858 (just in case your not a fan of twrp)
(both recoveries include loki already)
As a last note if by any chance you want to try stock kitkat (you can try official without root by flashing http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2664933 through lg flash tool) or if you root first you can try(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2665985) although you will lose custom recovery and need to use the flash tool to jump down to stock jb and start again have fun :fingers-crossed:
Similar Situation but with Sprint
Hello, I'm kinda in the same situation. except the G2 is with Sprint.
First, i'd just like to say that i can root, twrp, custom with quite a few HTC and Samsung phones but have yet to tackle an LG. It's actually my girlfriends. I told her not to accept any updates when she recieved the phone today from the local Sprint Store. So as it stands she's completely stock to my knowledge. I've included pictures.
Since she's on Sprint and NOT International, i can only assume the guides that you posted to help our other friend will not help me(or at least to an extent). I'm definitely not opposed to reading and learning, just really unsure where to start as the G2 is only split on the carrier level at Development. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

the rooting works with the g2 as long as it's stock 4.2.2 and the recovery guide for twrp plus 2.6.3.3 from here(http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/g2spr) should work but I did see somewhere that an update to the sprint model added some spark thing(I don't know what it is exactly) that does not play too well with custom kernels
on another note the reason for it splitting on a carrier level is so that no one flashes something that isn't for them which would cause lots of unwanted problems but of course if you want a rom for your model you head over to the sprint thread look for the one you want and flash away, and always remember to have a backup it can save your phones life someday

also forgot to mention there are other methods of flashing recoveries from play store like freegee, goo manager, rom manager, etc but I did not include because I am not sure wether they include loki or not which is important if you wanna flash certain roms and mainly different kernels
Wow that's some great help and info there mate thanks for all the help! Seems like everything I need all in one place. Its out for delivery today so will hopefully be playing with it by this evening.
From what I can tell from a little reading there isn't a UK KitKat officially yet at the minute? Is there any I can manually flash with minimal to zero bloat? Just standard LG software?

Well like I mentioned before if you root first you can flash this(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2665985) if done correctly you keep root but will lose recovery because as of yet there isn't one and since its international bloat is minimal unlike when it's from an American carrier
Once you root, using freegee to install recovery is trivial and yes it includes Loki.
I used ioroot to root my G2 and I have no complaints, everything went through smoothly

Thanks a bunch! It seems as though this is going to be unexpectedly simple!
I highly doubt I'm going to be flashing anything other than a modified stock Rom for her. Stability, battery life, with no bugs is all I'm looking for as it's not my phone. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
Also, I get why they're split at the development level, it's just that running through the QA and General sections is a little tougher. I do so appreciate all the help and advice!

Replacing factory firmware!!!
Hello,
i Am newbie here, recently i brought a LG G2 D802 supposedly from a EU store and i am in Finland, but to my surprise the software firmware is Asia made, Hong Kong to be particular. it goes like this, D80210b-HKG-XX build JDQ39B kernel 3.4.0. With this original Stock software, the 4G option is not shown( i know it can be done by hidden menu but i want to get a permanent fix); the MMS setting althought i did it manually by inserting the values provided by the Network service provider.Still i am unable to get that fix.
I am in turn to contacting my seller for the correct working OPEN stock rom installed G2 but if the case does not go like that then i wish to root it to the OPEN international ROM . From what i have read, if you update then it goes back to the HKG rom, if there any way i can remove the factory rom with the OPEN Rom and receive the update OTA and it will not revert back. I have been doing my research on this but i am not able to get the answers... Hope some one will shine some light on this.
Thanks in Advance !!!

[Q] LG G2 D802H, Root help.

Hey guys.
I am not that new in the whole rooting "scene" but it seems that I am unable to find a proper guide for rooting my (updated) phone. Every guide I have found, not only in this site, is outdated for like a year or so or just for older versions of the firmware, and if there is one thats for D802H(international model, I'm from Greece) it's probably in really bad english or directed towards pros. I rooted my G2 when I got it last year but decided to unroot because of some problems with the screen so I could use my warranty and haven't rerooted since. So it would be really helpful if any of you could point me in a certain guide or just run me through the whole process of rooting my phone, what to download, what to do to my phone, the recoveries etc. I would really like to use Cyanogen Mod or a G3 mod. Certainly, my choice for these two is because they look awesome. If you have any other rom on your mind that might be better than these, please dont hesitate from telling me. I really need all the help I can get, last time I got stuck on a boot loop and didn't know what to do for many hours before I reflashed to stock. So basically I would like a root guide ( found one from a member called somboons, seemed nice but wasn't really thorough as to whether I should wipe all data or just wipe dalvik cache and really wasn't noob-friendly) and a link to a ROM download page with a guide for flashing it. Not really into kernels, so if you could suggest a different one from stock that provides better battery life etc. that would be great. Any other info that you feel I should know will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance guys and sorry for the trouble I'm putting you,
George.
P.S.: Would like to avoid wiping data if at all possible.

Oh well that was easy, thanks man. Rooted succesfully, installed SU and now have TWRP. What about the ROM? For CM, should I just go in their site and pick one for my phone? Is a release here that's stable?

Help...please.
Rooting this phone is a convoluted bunch of bull****.
I am on OC4. I need to downgrade. Yet every tutorial I go to is full of broken links for the files I need and over a year old.
So far I have these as steps.
1. Downgrade via Odin somehow, not sure what file to use for that, as most links are broken af due to their age. I have Odin 3.10.
2. Towelroot.
3. Recovery
4. Custom rom, going Cyanogen.
5. I have seen threads mentioning having to downgrade my Kernel? Where does that fit in?
Before you ask I have searched google and this forum first, as per protocol. I probably didn't look hard enough.
I am not asking for a step by step, just updated links or tutorials, and maybe some info on what I have right and wrong.
I am NOT NEW to rooting android phones. Rooted the last 5 I've owned starting with the G1.
Thanks in advance. Sorry for the noobness. This S5 isn't like my 4G LTE or Droid Incrdible, but it is still pissing me off.

There are no Cyanogen ROMs for our phones, since that requires a different kernel than our locked bootloader can accept. Which ROM do you want to use? I'll see if I can put together a quick guide for you. I personally use Freedom ROM, which currently uses an OC4 base.
Right here buddy 3rd post. Most of this stuff is pretty easy you just have to read threw the threads.

Thanks and that thread never appeared in my searches. That and I don't have time to go through thousands of results. It'd take me longer than this did. Also. Cyanogen for galaxy s5

freedom rom and alliance rom look good. So one of those if cyanogen doesn't work.

yeah you can only use t-wiz base roms because of the bootloader.

Unless you bought a Developer edition with an unlocked bootloader, it's best to stay away from the Unified Development section. You'll just end up with your heartbroken, since they all require kernels that we can't get on our phone. Your best bet is to stick within the Verizon-specific development thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/development
And make sure you end up with the right firmware (bootloader, kernel, modem) that matches the ROM you choose! Otherwise, you won't boot up. It took me a few failed boots and attempts before I learned that the hard way.
