How i am able to hold my Nexus 6 with one hand - Nexus 6 General

Hi guys!
I made a small album showing my holding position that i posted on Reddit earlier.
http://imgur.com/a/mPBvL

Yeah I hold mine the same way except I put my pinky tip under the charging hole. No problem for me one handing it and I don't have big hands

Yeah I do the same. No issues with holding this phone and still able to use it one handed.

I too like to live on the edge.

Without my pinky below the bottom edge, I can't picture myself holding it (in my case, I am sure it is a cracked screen waiting to happen)
With the pinky below the bottom edge, I of course can't reach the notification bar with my thumb

Balancing the device on your fingers like that would make it highly prone to drops.

Yes. I can hold it one handed fine. The dimple on the back is super useful for this.

I want to see videos of this in action from every one of you!

I have girl hands for a dude but I've been using phablets since the note 1..im use to the whole one handed and two handed scheme already

Props to you for admitting that lol honestly, ive never heard a bro say that.

Its a workout reaching elements on the screen one handed. I'm playing it safe until my spigen case gets here. Then I can risk dropping haha

I will be honest. I have never had a "phablet" and the largest phone i have had prior to the 6 was the 5. I have very large hands and honestly this is the most natural typing experience since the motorola Q for me. One handed works fine and i do not "fat finger" nearly as much as i used to. Do not get me wrong, the phone is huge, but it actually fits!

I've been holding my notes that way for years so I'm sure once I'm able to track down a 6 for myself I'll have no issues.

I don't have my nexus 6 yet but I do a similar thing with my 5. I kind of throw it around in my hand changing where I balance it to reach the top of bottom.
It's a skill, really.

Same here since I'm a chick so my hands are small.
I never noticed that I balanced the phone until I started to picture how I would hold my N6. And I noticed I practically two hand the N5 already 80% of the time. So It wont be that big of a change for me I hope.

I tested things out this week on an LG G flex and this is how I had to hold it. Worked fine. Plus, I'll put Nova on it immediately so I can swipe down from anywhere and don't have to reach the top on the screen.

Consider a custom launcher like Nova Prime with custom gestures.

I tried that but then I don't get my Google now page on the left screen. Is there any work around for that?

That's all fine and good, but there is no way I can get excited when i'm reading things like this:

I tend to agree with you, but I'm still going to Best Buy tomorrow to play with the Nexus S and see how Gingerbread performs. The stores near me have around 35 in stock each. I hope it doesn't perform really well, it might cause my credit card to slip out of my wallet accidentally.
Was the curve screen prominent? What difference did you see in the touchscreen?
I wonder if the Nexus One will still get updates after Gingerbread is released now that the Nexus S is on the scene.
True

I think it will. Nexus One specs are still meeting or exceeding Android phones today. Plus not every new phone in 2011 will be dual core.
Now will it run every app? That remains to be seen. Already we're not going to get the full Google Maps experience.

This and is it curved only in one direction or it's totally caved in? Coz I suppose putting on a screen protector might not be easy with a caved in screen. You can't use a flat screen protector in that case unless they make the protector curved as well.

How durable does the screen feel. I read somewhere Gorilla Glass couldn't make a cover that would work on it. Better yet if someone could key the crap out of a demo and report back that'd be awsome too.
The glass is flat and smooth and actually felt like it was scratch resistent

you sure? i cannot believe that bootup will take 5 sec after installing some apps. hell i can't even believe it'll take 5 seconds without any 3rd party app...
and my definition if bootup is: homescreen is setup and ready to go. because aufter seing the homescreen it'll still load a lot of stuff in the backgroud, therefore it's important to count in the time until you can really use the device.

This phone on the bottom is creak central man I hate to say it but I may stick with my sg3. The whole reason I got this phone because I was praying for no creaks I drove to NY to get this phone took me an hour drive anyways I'm actually hoping the bumper might solve this problem but I might just sell mines the touch sensitivity is pretty weak as well. But in the Context of a 350 dollar phone I'd rate it pretty godly But damn it creaks worst then a TV remote exchanging it will do nothing only slow the problem down

I have the creaking in the bottom left as well. I'm wondering if this has something to do with the majority of cracking happening in that area near the speaker grill.

Is it worth the risk ?

Hey guys...this is my first post in here, so please go easy on me. So, i have been in love with The nexus 7 since the day it was released. I have seen all kind of videos/reviews and thought that it is a perfect fit for me. But what i'm scared about is the durability of Nexus 7's screen. I have been hovering over Xda and specially in the Nexus 7 forum and found a lot of criticism regarding its screen cracks and poor build quality.
The thing is I live in Bangladesh, where i wont be able to enjoy any warranties or guarantees(actually I will get a one-day replacement warranty and that's it). Also, it is highly likely that i wont find the necessary equipment to fix it myself. I found only a single case cover for the Nexus which is the poetic brand slimline(Is that any good ? ). Nexus 7 16Gb version costs around $320 here
All this makes me doubt to purchase the awesome gadget and rather settle for the sub-standard Galaxy tab 2 7.0 3G which costs around the same.
But then again...i feel like I wont be able to happily enjoy any other set as i have been in love with Nexus 7 for the last 6 months. So, as u guys can seen that i'm real in pickle. So any advice will go a long way for me. Is Nexus 7 really worth the risk ?
Thanks.
Just don't drop it, any screen can crack that way. Also get a screen protector, the glass does scratch relatively easy.
Fun story. I got an 8gb nexus from the first batch that were made. But I don't currently live in the US, so I ran a huge gamble by ordering one and having my family send it out to me in Asia. Worked *perfectly* until I went back to the US for Thanksgiving. Then, somehow, I blew out the speaker. I was able to get in touch with Google and get it swapped out in under a week, returned to Asia with my new 8GB (no magic upgrade, drat) and we've been happy ever since.
I don't think it's really any risk. The majority who complain about the nexus are a minority of the owners.
Also keep in mind you will hear more horror stories from pissed off owners than stories of folks reporting zero issues

My friend got his 16gig N7 the day it came out and has had zero hardware issues with it. Gotta give credit to magiconthetire as well, he hit the nail on the head. When things go wrong it's the end of the world. But when things go right, you won't even know anything is happening at all.
Also I picked up the Poetic Slim case you mentioned and I really like it. The only draw back is how close the case comes to the bezel on the edges of the screen; if you have big hands or don't hit the bottom navigation bar or top notification bar at the right angle...the case sort of gets in the way. My solution to that is using a stylus for more accurate precision. The stylus also makes typing significantly easier, especially if you use gesture typing such as Swype, SwiftKey Flow, etc.
OP if you know someone you trust in Europe, USA, or even Australia. Get them to buy the tablet for you and ship it out to you. Even with shipping it will be a lot less than $320, if it breaks for something that is under warranty send it back to them and they can return it for repairs.
Cheers Danny

I've only had mine for a couple of weeks and so far no issues here. This is under pretty heavy use as well, as I take my Nexus 7 with me everywhere that I go. The case works really well though, it has a snug fit on the N7 so it doesn't move around inside of it at all, the smart cover that turns the screen on when you open the flap back has worked flawlessly, the hand strap for the back is really nice for using it in portrait mode while laying in bed or for just holding it up during prolonged periods, and the landscape stand is a little tricky to figure out at fist...but works just fine once you figure it out. I'd recommend some kind of sound toggle app for your notification bar as well, because the case does make it a bit of a pain to reach the physical buttons. But that's not really Poetic's fault, the way the buttons angle down with the curve of the backside of the tablet makes them kind of annoying for any case that doesn't have the same slope on it.
As far as stylus' go, I heard good things about this one and it was still fairly cheap...I just got it in the mail a couple of days ago but so far, so good:

Asus have international warranty for it.
Beamed from my Maguro.
If you ever want to buy a case throughout the internet I'd be more than happy to help a fellow owner out and re-ship to you!
I don't want to persuade you not to get one because I love the n7 and think everyone should have one, but i just broke my second one. My daughter dropped the first one and the corner of the screen shattered. I didn't have insurance because I've never dropped or lost a phone or laptop or anything, so it cost full price to replace it.
I had the second one in my back pocket, bent down, and screwed up the screen. My pants aren't tight but my butt put a little bit of leverage on the middle of the screen and broke it. When I turned it on later, the screen has a discolored line through it and a pattern of random lines on each side and no normal picture. The screen glass didn't crack, but the screen internals must have. I paid $50 for insurance so I hope it will be replaced with no hassle.
Long story short, I'll never use an n7 without a protective case again, and I've never used a case on any device.
Thanks a lot guys....I have taken all the advice into consideration and have found a satisfying solution. Gonna wait three months and buy through a friend in US.

Im sorry that you had a bad device experience with the S4. But I have to tell you, the S4 is far and away from laggy at all. Even in stock form. Several people that I know and many more on this site would tell you differently. I am going to say that either an app that you use caused the lagg, or the phone was a lemon. Heck, I have my S4 packed to the gills with apps and it is under clocked as well. And I get zero lagg.
Now, as far as the iPhone is concerned, I do not blame you in the least for getting rid of it. The company that I work for gave me an iPhone. After using it for a couple of months. I practically ready to smash it. So, I convinced them to purchase me an S4. For now and as far as a phone is concerned, I could not be happier.
Regardles the One seems as though it is a good phone. There are two things stopping me from owning it. This one is a big one. It is not on the Verizon network. And two, it does not have a micro SD card slot.

Not sure what awkward would mean, but the one heats just as any phone does, but the aluminum traps it and absorbs it more than say, plastic. That's not to say the phone itself is overheating, meaning for ex, u have a naturally 1.1ghz phone overclocked to 1.8ghz, that heat you're feeling is it screaming for it's life.
The heat on the one is just due to the fact it's aluminum, nothibg to panic about, I PROMISE YOU.
Why don't you get a case? Because you won't be able to feel it and well, as beautiful as it is, and as the case for all smartphones, drop it and it's gone.
Sent from my HTC One
The One feels hotter because the aluminum body conducts heat much better than plastic does. This is a GOOD thing. It means the phone cools off much faster when things get hot.
The power button is awkward to push but nothing that make me thing of using some crappy iPhone or the S4

I have reserved it, but am also unsure with this bezel thing.
They could have included those touch buttons instead of on screen buttons and would have extended the usable space.

I have reserved it, but am also unsure with this bezel thing.
They could have included those touch buttons instead of on screen buttons and would have extended the usable space.

If they would have included those touch buttons I would be enjoying the phone right now.

Someone mentioned that the bezel is there for the boom sound to work. Guess it's some kind of hardware under the bezel.

I dont think so, Logo thing happened only because there were two capacitive buttons on each side of logo, so they could use the Capacitive strip.
Not in this case.
Yea..that's a terrible look. It has a speaker up top that also includes a camera and leds with a smaller bezel.
IMO the g2 has the design nailed. This is clunky looking. The onscreen buttons look outta place

I have the phone and I hate the bezel. So much wasted space... I'll get use to it.

It's not that it looked clunky it just looked wrong. So much empty valuable space. The phone could be so great but it's a disaster

I have the phone in hand and it is annoying but the rest of the phone is so gorgeous I am looking past it. I am also assuming that soon the phone will be rooted and we can fully take advantage of immersive mode on kit kat. It does seem like a waste though but the rest of the phone great.

Looks plenty clunky to me. A speaker, half inch of black with a logo, nav buttons that look outta place overlapping things (blinkfeed ie) then the typical apps on the dock..,may have to go without apps on the dock but then it will look like early iterations of Sense

That half inch of black with their logo cost them a customer in me and probably anyone else that truly enjoys the art of phones. I am still so pissed after seeing this phone.
Wait, it doesn't have immersion mode?

ITT: OP whining about a bezel on a phone he doesnt have to buy.
General sections are for news/tips/tricks/guides/howtos.. not really for discussing cosmetic preferences of phones you don't own.
