GUIDE for HTC ONE M8 | How to delete system apps if you are S-ON - One (M8) General

First thing is first.
You must have an unlocked bootloader and a rooted device.
If you are S-ON and you don't like bloatware you must do it from RECOVERY [custom recovery of course]
Boot your device into recovery mode [TWRP]
Click on : Mount / Check the square where it says System [so mount system]
Click back
Click Advanced / then click File Manager
Scroll until you see : system
Click on system / then click app
Now, from there you delete all the apps you want, including the odex files.
After you deleted the apps you want click on (Up A Level)
Then scroll to priv-app
From there delete also all the apps you can find and want to delete and you didn't find in system/app
After you did that click again on (Up A Level) and again on (Up A Level)
There click on data / app [click data, and then click app]
There you will find the apps you deleted and their updates, so delete those too.
After you done all that you can reboot the device. Unless you do all these steps the apps you delete will show up again in your app drawer, so do this and the apps will stay deleted.
Enjoy the free space on your device.

Or just delete them inside the OS with es file explorer and soft reboot the phone.

Not working. Believe me I tried. Others tried too. So you must be the only one or the one from a very small circle. But I doubt that you are right, maybe you just want to apper interesting.

Don't know what your problem is in your answering. It works perfectly fine. And i tried a lot. I pretty much know how android works and have experience.
Believe all you want but don't put me off as some noob. And you certainly can keep those kind of comments with you !

Why don't you report this thread too and have it removed, like the other one, that way people will surely find solutions, I can't even believe an XDA moderator completely removed the thread about the damaged speaker.

You probably still have HTC's write protection on whatever rom u are using, maybe that's why Mr Hof's method isnt working for you. I use Root explorer to do the same as Mr Hof's does and it works 100%.
In the long run its better to maybe fork out a small amount of cash and go s off so lenghty and convoluted processes such as this can be avoided

The only thing I have is S-ON. That's it. Write protection is off, trust me, my apps can read/write the external sdcard, or anything else in the device for that matter.
Do not give me lessons, I am waiting for the V3 of sunshine.
I use stock ROM 4.4.4 and sunshine cannot S-OFF the device right now.

Lots of people used system app remover, even the pro version, and after reboot the apps were back in the app drawer.
So there is no trouble deleting them via TWRP.

It happened to me too, the only way to get rid of the bloatware was the TWRP method.
That's why I wrote this thread.
I hope it helps.

[FIX] Data Network Problem Fix.

For those who are having a the same problem listed below,
[email protected] said:
I have a Vodafone card with EDGE on it....
Okay, this happens mostly when I am using Custom ROMs.
For example if my Data Network is ON and if someone calls me and if I pick up the call then I am unable to pick it up....
No matter how many times I slide the accept button it won't accept.
And then in the next 2 minutes I am unable to make calls or use Data Network or send SMSes...
And while in those 2 minutes if someone calls me then he gets "The Vodafone number you have dialed is out of coverage area".
Just to mention more, when someone calls me while Data Network is ON and if the call does not get accepted (which happens 90% of the times) I can see my network signal full but actually there isn't any, or something like that....
And after 2 minutes it reconnects to the network....
Click to expand...

NOTE : Mostly Vodafone users will be experiencing this problem....
NOTE : It will take at least 24 hours for the network to get stable after flashing this.
please use the fix below.
1. Download this ---> I5801DDJP6 only modem.bin
Note : if you already have I501DDJP6 then make a back up copy of it and delete all files in it except "modem.bin" using Total Commander and follow the steps below.
2. Open Odin Multi Downloader (Apollo).
3. Select OPS File, Tick one package and select the downloaded file (I5801DDJP6 only modem.bin) as the one package.
{

"lightbox_next": "Next",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
4. Now put phone in download mode, connect USB and then flash it.....
NOTE : You can also try flashing a "modem.bin" of any other stock firmware but since I5801DDJP6 is the latest one in India I decided to use this.
Some stock "modem.bin"s may not work with custom firmwares or they may work. Depends.
Make sure to try them out.
I used this on Kyorarom v0.5 and its working fine now
I have tried this on kyrillos Rom v9.0.. Now under observation, will give u the feedback soon.. Hope this works..
And what about the battery bug? I have these 2 (network,battery) bugs .. i ll look for the network with the modem.bin but by the battery bug : the battery IS okay.. tried many other batteries, i just want to know why it can't survive longer than 5 minutes when i unplug it from charge.. any solutions? If you are saying you are pretty much sure that the battery is not damaged then,
You might wanna check which app of yours is using so much battery of yours.
I have got a network problems in my home!! Else its fine!!
i strongly believe its a modem.bin issue!!
lets see!! I am trying it!!
EDIT: Flashed it!!
First observation is: network signal is same as it was before. only thing is Edge (E) signal is static now. previously it changed to 3g and H. But H was the fastest, and E was the slowest!
Lets see how will it fare now!
Yeah but the thing is - im not using the phone it shuts down when i once use it for 2 minutes. So i can only use it if its on the charger like at the moment. I want to say its not because of an app.. cuz i obly have facebook and the xda app installed.. any ideas?

E is not static. Range is still the same but its normal in this area

Thanks once again [email protected], though it's too early to say, but I believe to have finally got ridden of that annoying problem.
By the way, is it fine if one just removes modem.bin from the .tar of any rom and then flash it? Because by doing that one doesn't needs to repeat the whole process again and again!
not a big deal to flash modem.bin for every update.. gossshhhh finally got rid of this problem, now we can flash any ported rom.. @h4r5h why do u go for removing this file from tars, dont risk ur phone .. just simply flash this modem.bin after u flash with ur desired custom rom..

All I wanted to know was whether it is possible or not? Maybe some dev would be able to answer it better?

You can use Total Commander to replace the files in the ".tar"....
I don't think that would cause any problems...
Except there could be a possibility of dependencies (if any there) being tampered...
Is this modem.bin the same as DDJP2?

[Q] Battery percentage on TBD_Themed_Sensation_XL_Gen3_V3.6

I'm using Dan TBD_Themed_Sensation_XL_Gen3_V3.6.

Can anyone explain how to put it on the bar.
I know how to make it appear outside the bar, but what i want is for the percentage on the bar itself.

Thank you
I actually asked for that within the rom thread itself, but there's no one there who's got the skills to do it, and it doesn't seem to bother too many people.
If you're going to do the mod, would you also do it on the non-themed rom found here.
For the themed version .. it seems like it already has the percentage number inside the battery icon .... ive extracted the images and i attached one of the battery icons .. and i cant seem to find any other battery images .. is there a seperate theme that is added ? thats the only thing i can think of thats overriding the stock battery icon . but the only themes i found "Rosie Revolution IceHD and HoneyHD" do not contain any battery icons ..... i dont run sense so im not familiar with its workings .. does it have a program which allows you to switch themes ? if so can you tell me the name of it and the names of the themes which appear inside the theme app ?

You are right, after instaling the rom there is a fix to some problem about animation transitions and something else...
I guess this fix is what prevents me and anyone else of having the number on the battery icon.
"Standard animation transition & fix for rcmix files
Uploading now!
Needs testing so do a backup first!
Download link:
http://bit.ly/wEfZJH
For sure this fix messes with the icon of the battery.
I thought about installing the rom without the fix, but I'm not sure what animation transitions are. And I'm afraid the rom don't works properly
Sorry for not mention the fix in the beginning, but I only remember after reading your post.
Thank you again for your interest on this problem.

Ah thanks so much ! perfect ! you are the bomb !
And animation transitions are like just the way the windows open / close and how they move about the screen . somtimes a broken animation will freeze an app or cause it to display incorrectly . its best to apply any update provided by the dev of the ROM .
Now i have a second question .. is your battery icon horizontal (laying flat on its edge) ? or vertical (standing up with the postivie end of the battery up) ?
---------- Post added at 02:08 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:44 AM ----------
alright theres a lot i can do here lol .. last question
Do you want the increments to be single digits or by 5 or by 10 or by 20 ?
So it would read 100 .. 99 .. 98
or 100 .. 95 .. 90
or 100 .. 90 .. 80
or 100 .. 80 .. 60 ?
I don't know if this will work, so if you try it MAKE SURE TO BACKUP IN CWM BEFORE DOING THIS, but near the bottom of this post there is a battery percentage mod for another XL ROM

The battery is horizontal, just like the icon you have extracted.
And if the increments could be single digits, it would be great.

you can try but you will have to use a installer or put them on your sdcard and use root explorer or the included ES File Explorer with root access enabled
copy file to /system/framework folder and then reboot,
you could also download Stock_Look_Percent_Battery_UrDroid_EU_V1.2.zip replace file with one you want to try,
best way is by right clicking and open the zip file with 7-zip(not unzipping) and from another window drag your framework.res.apk to opened zip file and replace ( for me to do it you'll have to get permission from who's rom you using it from)
look in the GUIDES folder and there's a guide that might help you maybe Changing_stock_Battery.zip

Hmm if you gave it 20 minutes that should be plenty ... ughhh . that is funny . that happened with my brother's phone too . i tried modding the exact same thing and it gets stuck at the splash screen .. totally weird . i did everything the same as i did for my phone the only thing is im on a CM7 ROM but that shouldnt be the problem . and since its a system apk it should not be signed ... well this just blows .. sorry man i did everything that i should . but just reinstall the original file that you provided me and it will fix it . i'll look into the xmls again and see if i missed something .

Well, I found it VERY interesting : it is cool and attractive and COOL!
As I found, Paranoid Android is based on CM9. And Galaxy Ace has a port of Paranoid Android working. So I think it is possible to port this for our Legend, isn't it?
I'm trying the port ( for now just for me. I'll ask permissions and give credits before releasing anything... If I'll ever release anything... ) . I found a "guide" ( it is not so clear, or at least, not so for me ) here, and I yet can't understand where I have to change the framework...
If anyone can help me, I would be very glad. Thanks.
good luck
paranoid Android is one of my favorite roms of all time
tablet mode is really great, especially if you have a nice sized screen
(sorry I'm no help )

I've seen this ROM in my adventures into other forums. The only thing I worry about is the screen size of our dear Legend. If you need help though, I'll be more than happy to lend a hand.

Screen size shoudn't be a problem. galaxy Ace isn't bigger and has it on. We could just not use tablet mode in everything but only in some apps.
Actually, I really need help I'm new in Android development and I don't think that I can do this just on myself. I posted here for help I'm trying to understand what we have to do, if you can read the Topic and understand what we have to do, it would really help I'm also trying, but I discovered right now that my time is little in next few days, and I'm not sure to have understood rightly what we have to do
I found something like a "Paranoid Builder" here, but I don't know how to use it...
Still, we need zeubea's approvation to use his ROM as base.
I'm happy to help then I'm looking through the stuff you've linked now. I think I have a very basic understanding of how that Paranoid Builder would work, but not enough to try it. For now though, I'm just going to try out this porting guide and report back with results. Also, do you think you/we should open a thread in the Development section for this?

Really thanks for your help! It is more "We" than "Me" I've tried that guide right now, but I can't recompile the framework-res.apk. I'll try to solve the problem.
For the Post in dev section, Moderators always closes "Coming Soon" threads, so I think that we shouldn't until we've got hands on something.
We could even found a Team, it sounds more professional

Not yet, I've been away from my PC all morning and afternoon. I'll try not comparing/syncing files with ViceVersa, because the problem looks to be some bad path. I'll tell you.
Yea, I haven't seen a MOD for a while. I think we should open a thread just when we have something made, even not-bootable, but something.

Yay, right that. As said before, I'm looking for any problem in ViceVersa, I don't think apktool has any problem.
Well, I'd like you to magically create this ROM But it obviously isn't so easy.
Still, this isn't just my project, if you want to help, you are part of this, and you don't have to report to me If this PORT will succeed, it won't be MY rom, it will be OUR rom : mine, yours and of everyone that wants to help

Maybe the problem is donor rom's framework-res. I'll try to decompile it with other options.
Ok I'm back home. I'll try something else tomorrow.
I discovered that the recompiling problem is not in any of the 2 framework-res, or in other programs. Looks like Apktool if not well configured ( I'm searching what "well configured means" ) can't recompile. Maybe the problem is in java, not up to date, maybe in Android SDK, or in framework installed in APKTool. If anyone can offer more detailed informations, it would be very appreciated. If none can, I'll have to google a lot.
I think I've seen an apktool modified for ICS around, seeing as the proper one hasn't been updated in months. Can't find the link for it at the moment.
Edit: This looks promising.

WONDERFUL! Thanks a lot! I tried with something fast ( I customized emoticons in my Keyboard ) and I've been able to recompile the apk following the steps!
I'm going to continue with the porting guide, thanks a lot!
Edit: I'm having a lot of troubles with recompiled keyboard ( it is half size, just 5.5mb instead of 12mb from the original, but I just changed some smilies ), so I'll test this method a little bit more before editing framework-res... I just want to be sure, this will be a ROM, not an app...

My mom always said me to read everything, until the end. And I just did not this time...
There are more instructions to follow. I did what they said and I recompiled correctly my keyboard. Now I can continue this project.
Thanks ranger, the problem was related to compression somehow, so you helped

Bootable Paranoid Android!
I don't know what's working and what's not, I don't have the time right now to check. I just saw the tablet view in settings!
I think this Topic can be closed or anything else. I'm going to fix the burocratic manners ( rights to Zeubea, rights to Paranoid Android and so on... )
If I'll get all the permissions, you'll see soon a Topic in Dev section.
Thanks everyone!!!

Wow great job dude! Looking forward to seeing it in the dev section. If you need a tester, I'm available
I actually have a problem : I'm leaving very soon ( 3 days ) and my PC won't follow me. If I don't have replies for rights before I leave, I obviously won't post the ROM. But I will be away for 1 month, so I was thinking to give the ROM to you (smithchipz) or someone else who wants to help to keep it testing. If I leave, I will go back to a stable ROM, because I can't risk crashes while, by example, climbing.
So at least someone else than me will see this ROM soon
I'll keep you informed, many thanks to everyone wo helped

[Bounty] [email protected]

Not looking for any fancy one click all. Just a method to obtain uid 0. I can handle adb, I have a functioning toolchain and a sys admin level knowledge of Linux. Unfortunately I haven't had any success yet getting root.
My laziness and frustration has won over my cheapness. To that effect I would like to offer a 0.3 BTC bounty for a method to obtain root on this swanky device.
Update: Bounty paid. Received functioning method. Unfortunately I've been asked to not release it which I am happy to comply. Thanks!

I'll believe it when I see it. The kallsyms dump is pretty convincing but isn't absolute proof. I'll continue beating my firetv up in the meantime I guess. If i root mine first, I'll send myself the BTC.
On that note any one know why adb shell has an LD_PRELOAD library called libnimswrap.. looks like it touches a few interesting calls.
Root and recovery would be good. I got like 28 days left before I can return my FireTV. Hopefully this will be done before then.
If someone have a spare device to donate (France) I'm willing to spent some time on it. I did a few cool things on the fire hdx 7" and could probably do some on this device. I think this device could be great if we get a stock ROM running !

Personally I don't care if anyone believes me or not, any looking back at the history of Android exploits will likely see my work more often than not, especially with the Amazon FireOS. When appropriate, I will release.
Bonus tease for everyone else, modified recovery booting (just edited /res/ images to test booting unsigned code)

Why not join me in the process, instead of racing against? I'm looking to find less valuable bugs to use, instead of the more dangerous ones I am currently using. Feel free to ping me on freenode or gtalk.
Full disclosure, is something I do often, I believe I have accounted for the majority of open source android exploits. I really appreciate it when ppl explain what they are doing, love seeing the work of others, and love not having to reverse it.

Current issues with releasing my work right now:
1) No way to interact with a custom recovery (possibly doable with keyboard) and no way to load files to flash without booting into android (possible to mount usb disk in recovery mode?).
2) Looking for a bug to exploit that is less abusable by others
#1 Someone more versed at recoveries is lookign at
#2 I'm working on currently.

It's overriding the following symbols:
bind
connect
getaddrinfo
so tampering with network somehow.. if no one knows what it does I'll spend some time reading the disasm and figure out.. first guess is intercepting connections to some address, possibly redirecting elsewhere?

ok.. yeah, short version it looks like it is blocking some network connections. For example, the overridden connect() seems to open up a (I think local) socket connection (cached per thread), does some communication on that socket, then based on result fakes an error result (setting errno) or forwards the call to the real connect.
seems to be controlled by:
Code:
v0 = isFeatureEnabled(1);
v1 = isFeatureEnabled(3);
v2 = isFeatureEnabled(4);
not sure what those feature constants correspond to.. googling for isFeatureEnabled() just digs up some java crap..

It probably wouldn't be the smartest idea in the world, no. Why would you need a toolkit anyway? They're nothing but trouble, cause problems, and prevent you from learning anything. These devices are super easy to work with anyway, take the time to do things manually, it's pretty easy if you follow a good guide.

I get that using a command prompt is super easy and I'm not a stranger to using windows commands either (i know just enough about computers to get me in trouble haha) but for some reason I can't get the drivers installed properly. It's a very odd situation. After installing I'll run the command prompt in the folder where the drivers are located plug in my phone and type the command "adb devices" as well as "fastboot devices" and I get nothing everytime. Oddly enough when I use a toolkit I am able to root and unlock my device (my original Oneplus One) as well as flash a custom recovery. I know I'm doing something wrong, I just can't figure out what it is. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers but no luck. Any help with this situation would be appreciated as my new Oneplus 2 is arriving soon with the Chinese ROM and I definitely don't want to have to use it until a new toolkit comes out.

It works just like any other 4G supported dual sim nothing fancy. So you can't simultaneously get 4G but it's possible to get 4G on both the Sims but not at the same time like your S5 dual.
And as for call recording, I'll let you know when i try it on my friend's device. I forgot to ask him that when I net him the last time.
