Not showing up as USB device in Windows - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am trying to upgrade a relative's Nexus 7 (2012) to 5.0. It is rooted so the OTA is not working.
When I try to plug it in to a Windows PC, it simply charges with no recognition from the computer or the tablet. There's no change in the device manager. I have tried several usb cables and Windows 7 and 8.1. I have played around with USB debugging and MTP/PTP.
So, I cannot use adb/fastboot to upgrade the device.
Are there steps I can take to rectify this issue? Is it currently possible to upgrade the device some other way? (losing root or TWRP is fine as long as it updates)
Thanks.

[Q] [HELP!] Nexus 7 driver is labeled as SAMSUNG?

I'm trying to use the Nexus Root Toolkit to do some work on my original Nexus 7, but I'm having driver issues.
A few notes:
The device is rooted running CM 10.2 (might be irrelevant)
My PC is running Windows 8.1 and is fully up-to-date
My PC does recognize my Nexus 5 with no issues. (rooted, stock)
I've tried MULTIPLE times to use the Nexus Root Toolkit's Driver Configuration Guide to get my drivers working with absolutely zero luck
My PC is recognizing the Nexus 7 in the "Devices and Printers" menu and I can access it as a mounted drive when USB debugging is disabled
I'll provide more information if I can, but I'm really beginning to get frustrated with this.
My device is showing up in the Device Manager as a "SAMSUNG ANDROID PHONE" device, which makes zero sense.

Phone won't connect to PC after Unlocking via NRT

Hello,
today I tried to root my phone with Nexus Root Toolkit. The first step was to unlock the phone so I could root it. After I unlocked it I can't get the phone to connect to the PC. I've tried uninstalling the drivers(with USBDeview also), restarting the computer, different cables, different ports, USB debugging on/off, MPT/Camera, restoring to factory settings. Nothing works. The only time the phone registers in the Device Manager is when I put MPT with USB debugging, and I get an exclamation mark next the Nexus 4 device. Trying to update the drivers results in no drivers found. Downloading the drivers manually doesn't work either. What I find especially troubling is that when I connect the phone without USB debugging the phone doesn't even react to the connection. There is nothing in the status bar. The phone is charging tho.
edit: I've now tried 2 different computers (running Win 8.1, and 7), and it's the same problem, so I'm pretty sure the phone is the problem. Is there anything I can do from here?
Since I can't connect to the PC is there a way I can do something 'OTA' to fix it? Will I be eligible to update to 5.0 OTA since my phone is unlocked(stock ROM tho)?
edit2: I've now locked the bootloader, but the issue persists.
edit3: Uninstalled NRT, and the drivers it provides, and installed Google USB Drivers over the SDK Manager. I now have two devices: one Nexus 4, one Unknown Device, both with exclamation marks next to them. I think this double entry could be due to some remaining driver somewhere. Gonna try to remove every Nexus driver I can find, and then try with Google USB Drivers again. Fingers crossed.
edit4: Tried naked drivers. No luck...
Appreciate the input!

[Q] Nexus 7 is unable to connect to any computer no matter what I try

I have this really annoying problem with brother's Nexus 7 2012 wi-fi model.
It won't connect to ANY computer. I am not able to transfer files using mtp nor see it using adb. That meaning I can't root the device. I can't use it to develop android apps...
I know that this problem is discussed all over the internet, but no solution works for me.
I tried bunch of tutorials, done factory reset to nexus and anything that i could find on the internet to connect device to PC, but nothing is working...
I believe it is related to nexus 7 usb drivers, because cable is working with my galaxy s2 and also I tried like 5 other usb cables and 2 PCs on Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Ubuntu 14.04, but still no luck.
I tried everything in post which link I can not post cause I am newly registered member (maybe after 10 posts or so as submission error states, I will update OP). It is good post with a lot of suggestions but none of them is working for me.
Then I tried full driver installation guide in nexus 7 root toolkit. I also tried bunch of other tutorials on different forums but still no luck.
It might be nexus 7 usb port problem, because I don't see it using lsusb under ubuntu, but on the other hand in windows 7 it is recognized as unknown device and some wrong generic driver is installed for it. So I am not sure what to think...
If you can help me, it will be very appreciated , because I lost all my ideas...
Update: Tablet got android 5 update recently. Connection to PC is still not working. Any advices please?
I had a similar problem but I had already rooted the n7. It wouldn't charge either. I have to charge it through the pogo port and I use a powered otg cable to access USB sticks.

How did you manage to root it? Did adb work for you?
I have the exact same problem with my nexus 7. I have also tried many things to fix it but I was not successful. I think it must be a problem with the USB port since it is charged while connected to the PC but I cannot transfer files or even install the proper USB drivers.

[Q] Charging via USB with Nexus 4 Powered Off

My unlocked rooted Nexus 4 (Android 5.0.1) charges normally when powered on and normally when powered off from both the OEM A/C adapter and from a Windows 8.1 Pro machine. On the Windows 8.1 Pro x64 machine the Nexus 4, when powered off, is still recognised as an MTP USB Device.
On any one of my Windows 7 Ultimate x64, the Nexus 4, when powered on, is recognised normally as an MTP USB Device with Android Composite ADB Interface and connects and charges normally.
However, on the Windows 7 machines the Nexus 4, when powered off, will not charge and this appears to be because the MTP USB Device drivers dont work. The Nexus 4 is recognised as an MTP USB Device but the driver installation fails (the error is "This device cannot start. (Code 10)". I guess it doesn't charge because it isn't properly installed.
I have tried every fix I can find on the web with no success. I assume it's a problem in Win7 as there is no problem in Win8.1. There are obviously numerous work arounds; this is just bugging me - has any one seen and solved this particular problem?

Nexus 4 5.1.1 LMY48T not recognized by PC at all!

Hello everyone I've got an issue with my Nexus 4 which is why I registered, as I simply don't know what to do anymore.
My Nexus 4 is not recognized via USB at all, there is no connection sound and ist does not appear in the device manager.
It is charging and does show USB charging if I tap the battery icon.
Things I tried:
Uninstall/Install Driver with and without WugFresh Toolkit (USBDeview)
different Pcs (different USB Ports)
different USB cables which all worked with other mobile devices such as Samsung S3/4/5 mini
checking and unchecking MTP,PTP and Usb debugging
fastbootmode
factory reset
replaced the USB flex cable as i figured it would be defect
I tried to root it with some of the apps available bur none of them work with LMY48T.
I think it might be firmware related but because I didn't flash a Custom Recovery the last time I rooted it I have no possibility to flash another rom.
The root access was lost when the last OTA Update arrived which is why I can't install a custom recovery via the clockworkmod Rom Manager.
The Pc I'm working with is running on Win 10 I'm running out of ideas.
Please help me, thank you
