Lollipop update thread! - Shield Tablet General

Hey! Just wondering, but has anyone recieved the 5.0 update yet?
Yes, i'm kinda anxious.

I'm looking forward to lollipop on the shield but I may not allow it to install when it's first released.
There are a few of my commonly used apps that either crash on start or have problems in lollipop (on the nexus 7), so I have a feeling that there are a significant number of apps that still need updating.
My shield runs so flawlessly right now that I'd really hate to mess it up.

All the sites reporting that it has started to roll out are wrong, they're all reporting this on the basis of one screenshot from one user a couple of days ago. We'd be seeing more reports here if the roll out was really underway. Hopefully we should start seeing those reports very soon.

No update yet in the UK on LTE version

No update here in The Netherlands (Lte) yet.

Is it worth pre-optimising apps to use the ART runtime (via developer options), while awaiting the update?
I'm told by my colleague who has a Nexus 4, that received the lollipop update, that it took about 50 minutes to apply the update. But he hadn't set his runtime to ART, I have.
I'm waiting to see which of my devices gets lollipop first out of my Nvidia Shield Tablet and my Nexus 4.

Still nothing
Nothing in Poland.... LTE version.

Does anyone think that we'll get double tap to wake with the update? Here's hoping that it's not an N9 kernel feature ??

No Lollipop here in the U.S. yet. Hopefully, it'll hit soon! Definitely getting exciting for this update.

No Lollipop in France yet

I've been compulsively checking for OS updates and not gotten one yet

No lollipop in Mexico! Wait all night, and nothing I'm getting tired of waiting.

S3 Update in UK Gets Worse. (as if that was possible) Now the update has been remove

Since last Wednesday I have been one of the people who when I tried the OTA update, got the message saying, update service is not available, maximum number of roll out has been released, try later or upgrade through Kies.
Not that you could upgrade through Kies, as that always came back saying the latest firmware was installed.
As if 5 days of that message was not enough!
This morning Monday 9th December, that message has gone and it's gone back to just saying. Latest updates have already been installed.
It's as if the hope of an upgrade has been dangled in front of me for 5 days and now Taken away.
It certainly hasn't been updated. Unless the new version is keeping the random 5 to 10 second wait for the lock screen to undo, due to popular demand.
My phone is an unlocked S3 that was not supplied by a carrier, so was supposed to be one of the ones updated first.
How bad can you make a problem Samsung. Was the roll out of crap firmware not enough for you.
Nick
f*ck samsung!
Unless Samsung pulls off a miracle with future updates I intend to stay with custom ROMs! Currently I am using the 4.3-based SentinelRom which works perfectly. KitKat needs more time to mature on our phones.

Anyone know how to run this using Multirom? It needs to be in a zip format...
Bout damn time. Wonder if we'll have to wait 4 more months after L comes out next month? What's the damn point of having a nexus if its not up to date? Stupid. Im done with nexus. Selling this POS and getting something better. At least I'll like my versions behind tablet experience instead of hating everything about this stupid thing that's still behind in updates. Thanks for the heads up tho. At least for now I can say its up to date when I sell it.
Watch each file's last modified time from windows explorer.. It is not like the theories circulating that said google is still testing it or had to do w/ verizon blablabla.. It is just google delay it w/o any reason!

What?!
Android L is not released yet. Our Nexus devices won't start getting L until it is officially released later this month at the Google Conference.
Google is doing things differently this round where they are announcing the newest build and releasing the beta roms ahead of time so manufactures and developers can get devices and apps out as soon as an official build drops.
The Nexus is up-to-date running the latest official 4.4.4 rom.
Once Android L is released, it will be 4.5 or 5.0 (we'll see).
The reason why the LTE versions take longer is because the LTE spec is not open source like the GSM spec is. Therefore it takes longer to push updates out for the LTE units. This will always be the case no matter the device.

LTE is not the reason for the delay, Verizon is the reason! If LTE was the reason the N5 would be in the same boat. As much as people want to deny it Verizon screws everything up.

Yes, was Pleasantly surprised
Upgraded immediately
After using it for good 6-7 months decided to root the monster.
1. Took backup of all my Stock apps [ adb backup -all -obb -apk -nosystem -f all.obb.nosystem ] ( pics and songs taken saperately)
2. adb reboot-bootloader
< fastboot oem unlock > ( deletes user-data, but we have backup )
3. adb reboot recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.4.3-flo.img ( Didnt flash cwm just booted into it )
<Inside CWM>
4. adb sideload super_su_root_update.zip
<Clean Cache>
<Reboot>
5. Install net.segv11.bootunlocker.apk
6. Relock bootloader
7. adb restore all.obb.nosystem { Now All my apps ( even wallpaper ) are back}
And we are into Kitkat Stock Rom with Root.. Greenify, Freedom, Xpose framework, Lucky Patcher, Adblock, Wifi adb , systemApp uninstaller ,Busybox , SetCPU , Rom Toolkit, SoundBoost Patch, Nandroid Manager Patch Here I COME...
Just a serious question. What has Verizon to do with the updates? I have a contract free device, and shouldn't have to wait for months for updates. As someone else said already, LTE shouldn't be the deciding factor since the N5 got the update way before us.
Can someone make this to a flashable ZIP? Please devs.

I thinks the reason google made the LTE version is mainly specific for Verizon network only..
That's my opinion...
I don't think so. When the N7 LTE first came out Verizon wouldn't let you get a SIM to get on their network even if you had a contract. They argued that it wasn't an approved device despite the fact that if you had an active Verizon SIM from another device you could get service just fine.
Well, I just got the OTA update today. East coast USA. Yeah!
Finally. Long delay in the release of 4.4.4 on Nexus 7/2013 for whatever reasons. My guess is Google forgot about it.
No doubt the L release will be something good, and maybe seeing some new Nexus devices. Hopeful.
I have in The netherlands Vodafone. There was a radio bug in The 4.4.3 update is this solved in the 4.4.4.??? I stil dont make 4g contact tot Vodafone....

Post all information about Note PRO getting or not Android 6.0 Marshmallow here!

Hi everyone! I created this thread to collect any info about getting a Marshmallow update on our beloved Note PRO.
Did Sammy say anything about it?
Greetings!
Boy that would be nice for it to be updated to 6.x but I'm not holding my breath. I read an article that said our tablets are considered old and outdated as the came out Feb 2014... Nice.
FYI just updated Nexus 7 to 6.0 and it's from 2013.

Considering the tablet is less than two years old, and Samsung has a pretty good track record of providing OS updates during the first 2 years, I'd say chances are good. But, it'll probably be next fall when the "N" release is ready to drop. haha
With that said, the one factor that I think works against the Note Pro is the fact that it probably didn't sell very many units. It was incredibly expensive, and most people simply didn't want a tablet that big.
Time will tell.
I doubt it we haven't even got lollipop yet so the chance of marshmallow is 0%

I'm not sure what you mean, I'm on 5.0.2 right now, which is lollipop. The only feature I care about on Android M is Doze. My tablet drain about 20% overnight or when not in use for a day and I feel like Doze can bring that down to 5% or less so it's comparable to Ipad's standby time. I've tried Greenify and other similar "sleep" applications and they end up not saving any battery.
Idk our hardware is quite similer to Note3 hardware which wont get M !!
Just dont get your hopes so high guys since this company wont listen or even care about us loyal customers !
Trust me i've been in a situation like this before with my Note2.
Anyway i don't use my tablet as a social media device as they are the most reason to drain battery so quickly especially viber also turn off location completly.
So i really dont care about google so called doze or whatever sorcery they keep throwing at us as some marketing s**t !!!

Still on 4.4.2 here in the UK so no we still havnt recieved lollipop yet and 2 weeks ago Andriod L was realesed a year ago most google devices are using marshmallow now If you take Samsungs time scale as a factor google will have upgraded all there machines to 8.0 by the time we would recieve 6.0, so like I said I doubt very much they will upgrade an old tablet that didn't sell well to Marshmallow. If by some miracle they do, it will be 2 years out of date so again no real point to.
I've been researching about an update for my Verizon p905v for several days now because I switched to T-Mobile a few months ago and they don't sell this tablet so I didn't trade it in. I just added it to my account and put T-Mobile's sum card in it but the tablet won't recognize the sun card and still thinks it's a Verizon tablet, but that's off topic, just said that to explain why I couldn't update through the settings. Anyway, through Kies I was able to update to 5.1.1 a week or two ago. I read somewhere why researching this that the p905v WILL be getting the 6.0 update! It listed a few Samsung devices and the Note Pro 12.2 was the last one on the list to be getting it. I'll try to find where I read that and post a link here if I can find it again. FYI, you can't judge the update or timeline by comparing to any Nexus device, that site also said all Nexus devices will get the update first since they are Google devices. Hope this helps answer some questions, again I'll post a link to that site if I can find it.

Verizon is CDMA and TMobile is GSM. The two are not compatible. It will not work unless the tablet has both radios. Not sure if the note PRO has a GSM radio. If it does, then you will need to turn the radio on. Probably by loading a custom ROM.

I just bought the galaxy note pro 12.2, barely used for a good price. Even thought it's old, it should do what I need. I would hope to get at least 3 years out of it and the update to marshmallow would be nice. This is my first samsung tablet. I had previous iPad. Is it not likely Samsung will update this tablet? What's the big difference between lollipop and marshmallow anyway? Maybe it won't really matter.
Everyone tells me I should buy the iPad pro instead because of newer tech.
I think that the only way we will get Marshmallow for this tablet is if a dev cooks it up for us. I'm also wondering why there is no news of a new version of this table (or any Note tablet) in the works. I'm wondering if Samsung has abandoned the Note series of tablets. If they have that would be a shame. I use an iPhone, but the handwriting and multi-screen are of importance to me (so no change to an iPad).

I too am wondering why there isn't news of a new tablet. I was in the market for one, and didn't want another iPad. I have an iMac as my computer, but don't like apples phones so have galaxy note 3 and thought my iPad was limited in function so wanted a galaxy tab. I had to buy used. I know with CES being around the corner, if there is something in the works, they should announce it then. But I couldn't wait. I hope to at least get 2 years out of the note pro.
if nothing else, maybe someone will make a cyanogenmod 13 rom for it. that would be really nice.
Techradar marshmellow
"Android Marshmallow update: when can I get it?"
They mention the note pro.
I think it is a good idea for Samsung to do this asap as the market for large screen stylus powered devices is growing quickly with the iPad pro and tablet 4. The already with the note pro have a foothold device in that sector so they can launch off the back of it. Keeping the note pro relevant is important for now.
BTW, I've used both the iPad pro and windows 4 tab at work and still prefer the Note pro 12.2 even though it is a year old and less powerful. At the price point of the Note pro it is a fantastic device.

This type of discussion should be kept in the Blackberry Beta Zone forums and not here. If you are part of the beta program then you can read a lot of posts about how other users in the Beta are not happy with those that are leaking because it can cause a complete shutdown of the Beta Program as it did with the BB 10 Beta. So we don't end up with what is going on at CrackBerry I recommend that the mods lock this thread as any posts about the beta violate the NDA that we all in the program signed.
Why would be any NDA on a beta testing?

I am sure that if Blackberry wanted to fully stop them... they would under the NDA. They have done this in the past with leakers. All I am stating is that people who participate in a program with an NDA should follow the rules. People that don't follow the rules are the ones that ruin it for everyone else and normally the first ones to complain about something being taken away. This is because they don't get to be a hero and post information.
Please keep communications about the Beta in the Beta Zone. This way we don't lose the ability for future testing of software from Blackberry, like they did with BB10.
I want to add that the reason there is an NDA is so people don't release a copy of the OS, screenshots and other data. That is because this is a Beta and Blackberry was nice enough to let users test it and have input into what they would like to see in the OS and find bugs that need to be fixed. Blackberry could have done like a lot of other OEMs and kept everything internal until release.
My stance on this is that we have not received anything from RIM about this being copyrighted, or a C&D or anything of the sort.
If someone agrees to an NDA, then that is between them and the entity with whom they agree on an NDA.
But according to the link provided in the OP, it says nothing about anything being confidential in any way, nor does it preclude our forum users from discussing it.
So we will watch the thread but right now I see no reason to close it or take action on it.

I would say no as Verizon devices are not in the Beta. I would say that might be a security update. Blackberry has been great in sending out the security updates.

To anyone else in the UK with an unlocked Priv from CPW (STV100-4), like me who is fed up of waiting for the OTA Marshmallow update. I followed the instructions on BB's official support page here to install MM: http://uk.blackberry.com/content/bl...pport/smartphones/blackberry-PRIV/reload.html

Got the OTA Marshmallow update today (STV100-4 one from CPW in the UK). Gone from the manually flashed version above (Android 6.0.1 Build AAE570) to the OTA version (still 6.0.1 AAF057), not spotted any changes yet other than now having the June 1st security patch included.
I also got this update yesterday. For me it improved performance quite a bit and battery life seemed to be better, as far as I can tell from a few hours of usage.
But my annoying problem with the phone randomly not deep sleeping anymore, being awake permanently until a reboot and draining my battery is still there.

Wait
I have it as well - but wouldn't want to post it. It's a beta release, and as such, you won't get future OTA updates (at least until the official release comes out), and will have to update manually, and will have to wipe/reset to avoid issues going from beta to official. I really regret not waiting for the official, but hopefully fixing it won't be more of a hassle than upgrading was. I don't like that I'll have to set up everything again, but it is what it is, and as long as I get back on official so I can get future updates all will be well. It'll be better to wait, especially since the beta has bricked many people's phones (I got lucky, mine works flawlessly), and you won't have to go through extra bullcrap to get back on the official releases.

It's a pain that we'll have to stick to beta for now, judging from the other variants that asus release marshmallow before it will take a month or less(eg: Zenfone Max, mm beta release on 1st week of may, mm official release on 1st week of june), sad for us non-modder users.

I did upgrade to 6.0, so far i've experienced a bit of lag and battery drain( lot worse than .184)
Same here, upgrade went fine but now some significant battery drain taking place; I can guess why, the phone is now constantly warm and the system monitor utility shows that the processor spends some serous time at higher clock frequencies.
Also experiencing some microSD card disconnects, from time to time, for no apparent reason.
All in all, it wasn't a bad update though [emoji57]
Initially I also had really heavy battery drain after updating, but doing a factory reset and reinstalling my apps afresh seemed to fix. Now getting basically the same battery life as before the update, which is to say neither great nor terrible. Am very pleased with the improved RAM management after updating though - it is releasing RAM much better than before and running very smoothly.
