Need Help! Unknown Baseband, Null Imei - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

Hey guys,
So I am a beginner here, had no idea what I was doing and somehow I ended up messing up/bricking my S4. Long story short, after several days of messing around with it, I was finally able to take firmware through ODIN back to stock.
The issue is: The phone still does not recognize my sim card, when I check baseband it says Unknown, and IMEI is Null/Null. After further research, it seems that this has something to do with EFS. Unfortunately, I did not back up any such files since I have no real idea what I am doing.
Can anyone help me out with this? Galaxy S4- SGH-I337, NB1.
I just need the most simple fix to get phone working again.
Thanks.

Get a s4 from a friend and make a back up of the EFS. That's how I have heard people make it work

Maybe this can help you.

The only issue with that is they want me to back up and restore the EFS. I did not back up my EFS initially so I feel it is too late for that.

This may be hard, But if I did find an EFS for I337 online.. How would I go about putting this on my phone?

With EFS restorer Express

I thought each phone's efs were unique to that phone?

Did you ever make a nandroid backup at all? I know twrp backs up the efs hopefully you have that somewhere.
There is an app in the playstore that will give you your efs info using other info. It's called meid converter. Good luck.

Unfortunately, I dont think I backed up anything... not that I know of anyway.
What can I do with this app? Am I able to restore the baseband and IMEI?

It will tell you your imei, and other info that you might be missing. From there you will have to try and figure out a way to reinput them manually. There was an app called anycut that worked great for things like this back in the gingerbread days. I'm sure there are ways to do it in terminal emulater now hopefully a more knowledgeable user can help out with that part.

Still cant figure out what I should do here. Any further ideas?

I have tried changing the firmware via Odin several times, and I am still having the same issue! Can someone please instruct on how to get the baseband and IMEI back if it was never backed up in the first place.
Thanks!!

[Q] [i9505] Galaxy S4 Baseband and IMEI: Unkown

Hi,
I've been having problems with my 4 month old GS4 lately, mainly because I was not able to make or receive calls and texts. I looked up my problem, and eventually traced it down to a unknown baseband and IMEI problem. Sure enough, my baseband and IMEI was missing. I researched and found out that you need to backup your EFS folder as it may have been corrupted, unfortunately I was not able to do so. I even tried factory resetting my phone to stock TouchWiz, hearing reports that a hard reset can fix the problem; unfortunately, I'm still missing my IMEI and Baseband. All help is appreciated
This Phone was/is rooted, and has been flashed several times with custom ROMS.
Thank you in advance.
If the problem started without you flashing or doing anything else, then you have a hardware failure. Your emmc chip is probably broken. Bring it to a service center.

I'm not so sure really. I flashed Cyanogenmod and it was working fine, I could make and receive calls. However, my SIM card died and I had to replace it. That was when I noticed the problem.
EDIT: Okay, I failed to read completely. I kept reflashing nandroid backups however, after experiencing problems unrelated to this.

How do I know if it is okay??? P.S. I can't find certain files like nv_data.bin... sign of corruption?

It might be, since my efs folder have nv_data.bin but i can't tell for sure since i'm still a newbie here.
Did you try searching for efs backup on the phone? I know some roms do automatic backup after flash so it might be left there somewhere.

I don't understand what you are saying.
When did your problem start? Did you do anything or did it happen without you doing anything.

I tried, there was none unfortunately, I also flashed back to stock twice. If there was, it was probably wiped.

I can't say for sure. My IMEI and Baseband was visible when I was running CM11. My SIM died eventually, so I had 0 service after that for about a week. During this time, I flashed AntaresOne's Unofficial cm12 5.0. Maybe it was corrupted when I flashed it? Anyway, My efs folder appears to be missing files aswell. I can't seem to find nv_data.bin perhaps my efs folder really is corrupted?

[Q] no network after odin

so updated from 4.2.2 to 4.4.2 to 4.4.4 to 5.0.
I didnt check each step, but I have no network access now. I get the circle with the line through it. The phone works perfectly, but no access. EMEI is there, etc etc
I've searched for hours and found no solutions.
ive odined back 4.4.2 but cant get back to 4.2.2
current baseband is I337UCUFNB1
any help would be super super appreciated.
thanks in advance
so I've got a network signal card until I put the sim in.
IMEI, # - everything shows up in the right place. Just no signals available.
No networks showing available.
Anyone??
Check your apn settings. Make sure they're correct for your carrier.
Sent from my Nexus 9 using XDA Free mobile app
I think this phone is now dead. I need to repair NV, but have no way to do it unfortunately
essentially the phone gets the circle with line thru it. flashed every modem under the sun. not an apn problem. Phone just can see different networks for some reason
problem is NV files, but there is no way to correct issue I dont believe

I feel for you OP, I accidentally deleted my ESF 1/2/3 via service menu (I made a back up via service menu but don't think all the files are there.) A lot of things in my settings are set to "unknown" now. If you find a fix please share it with me, I'm hesitant to try anything else on my S4 since I've already managed to mess it up, but at the same time I guess there isn't much else to lose.

I'll throw in some $ too.
I bought this phone for $50, so even if I can't fix it I'm not out that much money. I'm looking into EFS tool, but since I don't have a back up, I don't think I can restore it.
anyone with efs professional willing to backup your nv file and send it to me??
could try and write over mine and see if fixes signal
nv repair is whats needed. efs professional says not supported

[HELP!] I think I messed up my EFS partition and I don't have a backup....

I was VERY stupid. I went back to stock Oxygen OS using a fastboot image and now if I dial #*06# the IMEI box shows up but no IMEI number is actually in the box it is just blank. I did post about this before but last time I didn't really know what happened I was asking if anyone could tell me what they thought happened. I am pretty sure I screwed up the EFS partition and I am just wondering what I need to do now. Is there some way I can repair it I mean I don't have a backup. Can I contact OnePlus support? I really need help.

This happened to me a few times in the past, all I had to do was wipe dalvik and cache again and it came back. Not sure if it's the same issue but I would give it a shot. Just boot into recovery and wipe them again and see if it gets you back up and running.

I cannot use that because my device is not hard bricked and it will not install the driver since I can enter the bootloader normally.
Not sure if you've seen this post its based on the post above but I think it just uses fastboot. Don't know if it will work for you, but figured it would be worth a shot.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=62973446&postcount=2
I tried using the tool and it did not work, I purposely hard bricked the device to try it and still no signal or imei. Another problem is WiFi takes about 4 minutes just to turn on but I can live with that I just want service.
Basically flashing back the stock should bring back the efs. Let's see if someone has a solution. Sorry!
EFS files are unique to each phone. If the EFS is corrupt or damaged, and there is no backup, I don't know of any way to fix it ;_; You can try OnePlus support but they aren't as dumb as carrier warranty or other phone manufacturers. They'll be more likely to know what you did.
It is possible to restore your imei number, I did it on my brothers lg g2. It requires some software for PC (I can't remember the name, you'll have to google it) and the box your phone came in with the imei number. It is possible, so don't lose hope!

Have you still got a radio signal (Make calls / text etc) ?
If not, you might have lost your EFS partition, which afaik, needs a professional repair to fix unless you backed up that partition first

Before you try anything, I strongly advise you to backup your EFS partition or you could end up with no signal at all
IMEI and Radios are both contained in the EFS partition, lose that, your screwed

Might be too late if the EFS partition is corrupted and you don't have an IMEI and can't make calls
There are a couple of threads kicking about on XDA S5 forums where people have managed to recover their phones with similar problems, have a read through the Q&A forum and see if you can find them, some fixed by flashing stock, not sure how that worked, but apparently it did
Read others saying they backed up a working S5 EFS and restored it to the broken one
Have a read and see what you can find

so you saying the only thing i can do is to flash a new imei with octoplus or some other kind of boxes.
and if i recover imei from other phone it will not cause network problem becuase there is two phones with the same imei ??
The law in most countries states that the only IMEI number you can use in your phone is the one it came with.....
Nobody here on XDA is going to give you advice on how to change your IMEI for that reason......it's against the law..... *and* as such, it's against XDA rules as well......

Dm-verity error and DRK error

Anyone else having this issue? I tried a factory reset on my S8+. I got stuck in the Recovery screen with a dm-verity error. I downloaded the firmware, installed it through Odin3.12.7, rebooted, then got a DRK error. I'm not sure how to get past or fix that? Any experience out there with that?

Thanks for the reply. I really don't know what happened. Woke up the other day and it wouldn't send texts. It would receive them, but not send. When I took it to Verizon, they suggested a factory restore, so I started that and that's when the errors began.

To be honest I don't know for sure but I don't have a good feeling.b efs contains your IMEI and all other per-phone information necessary to get a device on the network. If it's erased then all that info is gone so if you didn't back it up it's for good.
There are places (some less than reputable, others surely very reputable) that supposedly can repair these in certain cases, but I know nothing more.
Also fyi: if your initial thought is to clone someone else's efs, know that that is quite illegal in just about every country as it amounts to IMEI spoofing
