[Q] SM-N910F - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone know if the SM-N910F will get LTE service on AT&T in the United States?

I am looking for a definite answer as well from someone who has the F or the C. I would rather go with Internation if I am going to bring my own phone to AT&T

Has anyone seen/read any confirmation if a the N910F or N910U will work with the AT&T Network? I currently have the AT&T N910A and have only till the 25th to return it; phone cannot be rooted at this time and don't want to be stuck with it.
I'm reading conflicting reports saying the the N910U will work with AT&T, the N910C is exynos based and would like a Qualcom based version.

I ended up purchasing a SM-N910F. While it does work on the AT&T network I am getting 4G connectivity but no LTE indicator.

On your Note 4, can you go to mobile networks and change it to GSM only, then run another test and compare.
I think your Note 4 is running on HSPA+ only.

Look at my speedtest in signature: the Vodafone one is on 4G
You've the -F- (European) version of the Note 4; maybe your Note 3 is operating on a different (faster) LTE/4G band that is not supported on your Note 4!

I found this thread and was able to modify the frequency settings on my SM-N910F.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/general/how-to-add-rf-lte-frequency-bands-to-t2886059
Even though I still do not get a "4G LTE" icon in the status bar when I run LTE Discovery and SpeedTest the SM-N910F is matching my AT&T SM-N900A.

Sorry Bro, but 4G does not equal LTE. At least not in the US. A while back when 4G was an upcoming technology, carriers started pushing updates to the phones that made the phone display 4G even though it was actually running HSPA+ (3.5G). When LTE came out, the phones would still either display 4G or would display 4G LTE or just LTE. The only true way to tell if your phone is recognizing the LTE network is in your "About Device" Status screen under Mobile Network Type/State. That will tell you which network you are connected to, whether it be EDGE(2G), HSDPA(3G), HSPA+(3.5G/4G), or LTE(4G LTE).
AT&T is pretty tight lipped about their service. I have received many different answers depending on who you talk to at AT&T. The only thing I can suggest is to put the AT&T sim card it and make sure you have the APN configured correctly. The European model of the Note 4 actually has more LTE bands than the AT&T model. For quick reference, wikipedia states that AT&T in the US uses 2, 4, and 17.
Off of Samsung US for Note 4 AT&T:
SM-N910A - B2(1900) / B4(AWS) / B5(850) / B12(700) / B17(700)
Off of Samsung UK for Note 4 Europe Unlocked:
SM-N910F - B1(2100), B2(1900), B3(1800), B4(AWS), B5(850), B7(2600), B8(900), B17(700), B20(800)
Interesting to note that the AT&T Note Edge has almost all the same LTE bands as the European Note 4.
Off of Samsung US for Note Edge AT&T:
SM-N915A - B1(2100), B2(1900), B3(1800), B4(AWS), B5(850), B7(2600), B17(700), B20(800)
So with that being said, just because it uses the same bands, doesn't mean that it will function properly on another carrier's network.
So, if you are having issues getting LTE, then you may be in an area that strictly uses Band 12 or there is a configuration issue somewhere. I would get with AT&T and hash out the configuration issue and AT&T will help you out if you bring an unlocked phone to their network. More often than not, it's an IMEI issue. Their IMEI to LTE database is very rigid and if I recall correctly only has the IMEIs for AT&T phones and no others. A bit closed minded in my opinion, but they won't change it.
Now, with all that being said, I want to make something perfectly clear. AT&T does not guarantee LTE service, even on their own phones. Though with the AT&T variation you will get LTE more often than the European variation. Doesn't seem like it would work that way, but that's why AT&T has their variation. It's been vetted by AT&T.

International Note 2 at FCC already..

Sweet! At least we know it's already at the FCC and will most likely be good to go.
No U.S. LTE on this one (as expected), but that's good for those of us who hope to use this on our Unlimited MediaNet plans.
I think...the N7100 version is the one everyone is waiting for. At least I am.
Je le croyais aussi.
N7100 vs N7105
I really have no idea but it appears the N7105 is international version with no LTE, at least that works with ATT. The N7100 is the model number with LTE that will work with ATT. Is this true? Negri Electronics is selling the N7100, the spec says "4G Network LTE 700 MHz Class 17 / 2100". Does this work with ATT 4G LTE? Is this the model, if you want LTE, to buy?
I preordered from Negri a week ago, but definitely want LTE in U.S.so keep order or cancel? Many websites reference in specs LTE but others call for 2 models....anyone really know. Clove U.K. simply calls device Samsung Note 2, no reference to N7100 or N7105. It clearly doesn't show in specs 4G LTE, only 3G.Handtec (U.K.) calls out phone N7100 with the following spec:"3G: HSPA+ 21Mbps (HSDPA 21Mbps / HSUPA 5.76Mbps) 4G LTE: 100Mbps/ 50Mbps (HDSPA 42Mbps / HSUPA 5.76Mbps)
So which is it? Does anyone know?
It should work because ATT operates Lte on the 1700 and 2100 bands.

Yes... Same with Bell Canada LTE 700/1700/2100.
However what's confusing me is reading from the verge preview is the n7100 didn't have LTE.
Gsmarena also states this and list LTE 700 MHz Class 17 / 2100 - N7105.

That's the problem seems to have conflicting opinions, like no one really knows.i just asked Negri electronics ans this is what he wrote:
Anthony - Negri Care
Hey Bob, I do see your inquiry. According to specs this unit will get the full LTE mobile data speeds but we are unable to guarantee this until they are released.
So maybe all speculation and we won't know until this device is released.

HTC M9+ on VZW 700 band LTE

Hey team, surely we can figure this out. I have an M8, rooted on VZW in the USA. I am going to buy an M9+ on amazon purely for fun. On PhoneArena, it specifies that it does recieve 700 band LTE, VZW's main LTE band. VZW owns the 700MHz Upper Block C (band 13) so I believe it will be compatible, just not with XLTE, which uses band 4 (1700MHz). Just looking for someone selling one or any tricks thanks!
Don't forget that Verizon is CDMA based while the M9+ is GSM only. Even if Verizon uses SIM cards for LTE & device might not work. Also note that LTE is only used for data, so even if it did work, you'll probably not get voice calls.

Thanks! That's a great point as well. My speculation is that the VoLTE for Verizon, which utilizes the 700 band. So maybe VoLTE would still work. I'm sure an M9/M8 Sense 7 rom port could work.. Verizon also is CDMA dominant but supports international GSM. So my dinners are crossed. Comments? Questions?

I have used the M9+ in DC on the Cricket network and I only get 3G. I think there are ways by which bands can be unlocked. I remember having a similar thing back when I was using the One X.

I would suggest that you cancel the order if you still can. Even if it does somehow support Vz 700 or AWS band, which I strongly doubt, you won't be able to make calls since Vz use CDMA for that. M9+ probably doesn't support VoLTE either so you end up with a 5.2 inch tablet at best.

AWS should work. I route most my calling over Wi-Fi/data anyways. If calling doesn't work, I am going to use the Project Fi sim from my Nexus 6. I'm on Wi-Fi literally almost everywhere. I wonder if anyone has thought of flashing the M9 dialer over to the M9+. I've edited my scripts and got VoLTE to work for my HTC M8 with something similar. Any dev suggestions?

Is this with Vz SIM card?
Anyways, I don't think it works with any US LTE network. It probably picked up the 2100MHz downlink part of AWS in the network search. Since it lacks the 1700MHz uplink part, it can't really use it. You are better off switch to AT&T or TMO and use their 1900MHz 3G (HSDPA+, US carriers call it 4G) networks.

Its a Verizon sim out of my M8, currently active. I think it works on the LTE so it picks up the 4G network, but without the CDMA backbone it wont connect. Says it will work on any GSM network in the US, maybe flip it here in the states instead of selling it. Any root suggestions?

My Question is, will my device (the one bought in India) work in USA without any additional effort (like unlocking or something) ?
And IF unlocking is necessary to make my device work in the USA, please point me to the required resource .
Additionally, I'd like to show this to you :
Summarising the entire question in one sentence --> "Will a Moto G Plus 4th Gen bought in India work in USA ?"
Thanks people, in advance, for answering my question . Thank you :* .
The Indian model should be SIM unlocked, but it might be locked if you buy it through an Indian carrier (I don't know how it works over there). The Indian model has Quadband GSM, Triband HSPA, and LTE 1, 3, 5, 8, 40.
In the US, on AT&T you'll get 2G (850MHz and 1900MHz), 3G (850MHz), and in a few markets, LTE on Band 5 (which is also 850MHz). It's missing AT&T's primary LTE band 12/17, as well as LTE bands 2 and 4, and 3G on 1900MHz.
On T-Mobile, you'll get 2G on 1900MHz and that's it. It's missing 3G on 1700MHz/2100MHz and 1900MHz, and LTE Bands 2, 4, 12.
It will not work on Verizon or Sprint at all.

The US model of the G4 Plus has Triband CDMA, Quadband GSM, Pentaband (five-band) HSPA, and LTE 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 13, 25, 26, 41. It'll work on all major carriers, although some prepaid carriers do not allow unlocked phones as part of their own policy.
Compared to the Indian model, you're missing LTE Band 40. If Band 40 isn't important to you, get the US model.

G950F on T-mobile

So i'm probably about to pull the trigger on this phone because i'm sure it'll work fine on T-mobile, but upon researching, it looks like we could be missing LTE band 66.
"When it comes to T-Mobile, we’re focused on the LTE bands 2, 4, 12, and 66, the last of which is a newer band that T-Mo will be using for LTE coverage."
http://www.tmonews.com/2017/03/samsung-galaxy-s8-hits-fcc-support-lte-band-66/
As for international G950F, these sites cite bands 2, 4, & 12.. but no 66. Considering 2, 4, & 12 handle most of the coverage and that 66 is a newer band I don't think this is an issue at all. Besides my pixel has the same bands, sans 66 and I have great coverage.

http://www.willmydevicework.com/device/samsung-sm-g950f-galaxy-s8-td-lte
I know the international S7 worked fine here in the US, but I had ATT back then. If anyone else has a G950F on Tmobile here in the US, please posts results so we can establish a consensus that LTE coverage is not an issue.
The F model supports band 66 according to the FCC filing . The sites you are using are not accurate.

I'm still unclear as to whether or not the FCC model "G950U" is the G950F or a US carrier version, but i have read several references to the FCC model being "unlocked", so maybe it is.

I'm still unclear as to whether or not the FCC model "G950U" is the G950F or a US carrier version, but i have read several references to the FCC model being "unlocked", so maybe it is.

The U and F models are two different models.
The F/FD are international unlocked version.
The U model is the US model (locked or unlocked) and has a different FCC certification.
It also support mode LTE bands and carrier aggregation options for the US.
Not sure in F supports WiFi calling...
Does the US model support all US Carrier frequency bands? I'm curious because once I'm done paying my phone off on sprint I would like to unlock it and bring it to t-mobile. I also ask because I read that the US version of the S8 are the same no matter the carrier....

Not sure about that. Sprint is CDMA and T-mobile is GSM. Typically not compatible.

Well i'd figure any model made for the US market would have 66.. The international G950F was the one in question. And it looks like I answered my question with a little more digging. This test report from the FCC for the G950F confirms band 66 along with, from what I can see every necessary LTE band for both ATT and Tmobile. See "4.6 EUT Description" https://apps.fcc.gov/eas/GetApplicationAttachment.html?id=3292314 It also references some CDMA bands so maybe you can switch from Sprint to GSM carrier.. idk.

I too did some digging in regards to band 66 support on the international model. The phone doesn't directly support the band from my understanding but has the hardware to interact with band 66 frequencies. This in returns grants band 66 compatibility at band 42 or similar. This is just my interpretation and could be wrong but best I've come up with thus far.
edit: To help backup my claim: http://niviuk.free.fr/lte_band.php
Band 66 utilizes the 2100Mhz spectrum and according to a T-mobile rep:

955FD has band 66- BUT
The 955 FD (presume also 955F and 950FD and 950FD) has band 66. Tested on Freedommobile (Wind) Canada
BUT
If it takes a phone call it drops to wcdma band 4, and does not return to band 66 LTE.
I must toggle LTE/WCDMA/GSM to WCDMA/GSM and back to LTE/WCDMA/GSM to get band 66 LTE working again,
Your argument as to this is the fault of Freedomobile or Samsung. Some other phones but not 95xFx have had a firmware fix here on XDA.
Could a utility be written to do this?
If someone can solve this I might even root my S8+ 955FD!

LTE on AT&T

Anyone who purchased the unlocked version of this phone and who's carrier is AT&T, do you have consistent 4G coverage? I find my phone spends most of the time on H+. I contacted AT&T and had them provision it to allow connection to the LTE network and while at times it does connect in certain areas it does not connect as my wife's sg8 does. The speeds are also not as fast as she sees on her sg8. I feel like I have to conclude it does not support all of AT&T's bands. I wonder if this is hardware or software limited. Any thoughts?

IDK if a software update can/would enable more band support,I sure hope so:
A call to ASUS is in order,to get then to specify exactly which LTE Bands are supported.
Reason I say this is because some other sites are listing the specs as full (or close to it) LTE Support for North American markets & for using my 8GB/128GB model on T-Mobile US ,this does not seem to be the case:
At my current location,I am getting only Band 2 LTE on T-Mobile,which is a fallback band, along with Band 12.
Band 4 is the predominate LTE Band for T-Mobile in virtually all markets they service (w/a few exceptions, where Band 12 is primary).
I should be pulling in Band 4 with no problem,I've reset network settings & this changes nothing, along with trying an alternative T-Mobile APN.
I'm able to connect to Band 2 LTE,UMTS,HSPA+,but AFAICT,no Band 4 support & from my best guess,;looking around @ ASUS,no Band 12 support either.
Not trying to hijack the thread & turn it into a T-Mobile LTE Thread, just letting you know AT&T apparently isn't the only network that is sparse in connectivity to this phone in North America.
If nothing else,a word of caution to those considering buying this phone, get the word directly from ASUS regarding LTE Connectivity with your service provider.
Chances are the support isn't as good as some other similarly priced global phones on the market.
I can live with just Band 2 LTE ,if coverage is strong in my town,I've yet to try it out in all surrounding areas.
If coverage is spotty,I'm boxing it back up & sending it back.
FWIW,here's a .PDF from ASUS listing the LTE Band support for the AR & a few other devices:

Anyone got ideas/input on how/if more bands can be turned on/etc... (if the hardware supports it),by all means, please jump in. :good:
Their seem to three vibrants
1) Verizon LTE band 2/4.
2) global LTE band 2.
3)north America LTE band 2/4/12.
How do tell the different between global and north America vibrants??
