[Q] How do I find right CUSTOM ROM for my android device? - General AOKP Discussion

I am using MTK6572 device (SYMPHONY W85). I want to use custom rom in my device but I don't know which ROM will work on my device. Please help me. Can I use AOKP?

Just search AOKP or CM12 or smthing like that plus My Device name :
Cm11 for gt-i8160p
On Google or duckduckgo and test a few ones for your model.
Envoyé depuis mon GT-I8160P sous CM12

You can visit the offical website of AOKP and check. AOKP only supports fews of devices only.

You can download "rom manager" app from play store to get lists of rom.

Google is your friend. And you can read the description of every rom

search online for custom roms for you device, and download zip file.
if there are no custom roms available for your exact model, you can port a rom made for a device with the same mediatek number and kernel number as yours (look at about phone for this info). Research on phones with your same mtk and kernel numbers, and find custom roms made for them OR their stock roms. search how to port roms for mediatek devices online. I successfully ported and flashed a ROM for my MTK device by learning how to do it online.

[GUIDE][FAQ] Everything you need to know about porting roms (Easiest method to port)

IntroductionYou may have seen many threads on xda about porting roms. All of them provide step by step tutorial but they do not explain everything and do not answer common questions. So i decided to post a guide and answer all questions about porting roms.
Please note that I am not a developer or an expoert porter (I should say i am a noob) but I will to explain everything as simply as possible.
What is Porting? You can think of porting as simply getting a rom, designed for another device to work on your device.
What do I need for porting roms? You need two roms. One designed for your phone called "Base rom" and another which you want to port called "Port rom"
What skills/software do I need to port rom?Porting a rom is as simple as copy and paste. If you know how to copy and paste folders then you can port a rom.
For software side, you only need an archiver for porting (eg 7-zip)
How do I choose a base rom?Usually you choose cyanogenmod as base. The version number is important for porting.
Choose CM7 if you are porting android 2.3 (gingerbread rom)
Choose CM9 if you are porting android 4.0 (Ice cream sandwich rom)
Choose CM10 if you are porting android 4.1 (Jellybean rom)
Choose CM10.1 if you are porting android 4.2 (Jellybean rom)
Can I port all roms?No you cant.
You cannot port stock roms like sense, touchwiz etc.
You can port aosp roms like aokp, paranoid etc
Can I port from any phone? No. The phone must meet some requirements for you to be able to port.
What are those requirements?Well these things should be common in your phone and the phone you are porting from
1. Both should be armv7 (very important)
2. Both should have same resolution
3. Both should have same pixel density
4. Both should be of same brand (Not required but highly recommended)
5. Both should have same cpu (again not required but recommended)
What phone is best for porting? There is no "best phone for porting". It depends upon your phone. Simply put that if your phone and port phone have all the above things common then it is probably the best phone for porting.
HOW TO PORT ROM
1. Download base rom (designed for your phone) and port rom (the rom you want to port)
2. Open them with 7-zip (no need to extract)
3. Delete app, framework, fonts and media folders in BASE rom and move the app, framework, fonts and media from PORT rom to BASE rom
4. Your rom is now ready. Boot into recovery, Wipe everything and flash the BASE rom. It should boot. If it does not boot then do the next step
5. Go into system/lib folder in both the roms and replace the libandroidruntime.so file
6. Remember the final rom is BASE rom which you should flash on the phone.
reserved
Important: Before porting any rom always ask the developer about permission. I he allows then port and if he refuse then work on another rom. Dont ask him again and again.

UPDATE: added a guide to port rom. Hope you will like it
Could I port a rom designed for Samsung Galaxy Beam GT-i8530 to my Samsung Galaxy Beam GT-i8520 (Note that the first product model ends with 30 and the other ends with 20).
They are different phones and I would like to be able to update the stock Android 2.1 on my i8520 to Android 2.3 or above, preferably with the projector app/function of the i8530.
Both phones have projectors built in, but they are a little different in specs.
can we port 4.2 rom to 4.1.2 with same resolution, cpu & processor ??
plz confirm

I doubt that you will be able to get it to load, I've ported cm7,9 and cm10( cm10 requires me to decompile framework.jar add cdma smali files recompile the framework.jar. swap out the baseband libs and edit the build.prop cm7 and cm9 are the easiest for porting as its basically copy and paste cm9 is just baseband and build.prop edits for me to get cdma working it

from which phone i can port roms for my karbonn a9?
Really?
You said that you can port from ARMv7 to ARMv7 only. Is it not possible to port ARMv6 to ARMv6?
Good day! im using galaxy y, is it possible to port apps and framework from stock based roms to cm7 rom through your guide?
Are there any additional steps to be followed if jumping to the next android version aka from 4.2.2 to 4.4.2 ? I am asking this because i want to port a Kitkat based rom from a similar MTK 6572 device to our own device with exactly the same specs but different android versions, they even are the same brand.
Hi, can I use touchwiz stock like base rom and port on it cm10.1 ?

Redmi Note 4G LTE - MIUI-KHICNBF96.0.1

Just got this little beast to play around with yesterday.
My minote4G is based on KitKat 4.4.2 running on MIUI V5, wondering if there's already any upgrade version to V6 for my Redmi Note Type mentioned above? ...
I read the forum here and miui english forum and seems to have so many types of Redmi Notes with different Type of ROM official Code. This is my first time having this confusing ROM Code compare to other handheld I have.
Appreciate it much of your help, to share some extra guidance.
I have the same ROM installed.
Looking for v6 I read a post in english miuiDotCom "[Tools, Tips & Tutorials] [MiUI Device Team] Note 3/4G - Which ROM should i use? "
There are 2 variants of Redmi Note 4G devices; (i) TDD-LTE, (ii) FDD-LTE. For both devices, you can choose between (i) 4G-Global, (ii) 4G , ROMs
4G-Global is v5 multi-languages, with google apps. 4G is v6 only chinese and english and does not have google-app preinstalled.
Roms can be downloaded from the same forum at Downloads.
Sorry I can´t post links.
Running this..it's the latest multi Miui V6 with all google apps pre-installed. No Chinese apps. Runs great and looks even better.

Official Stable V6 ROM
bigota.d.miui.com/V6.2.2.0.KHICNBK/miui_H3LTE_V6.2.2.0.KHICNBK_a7592e51ac_4.4.zip
You can checkout for updates from below link.
http://en.miui.com/download-218.html#342
Redmi Note 4G - Chinese and English
Redmi Note 4G Global - Multi Language.
You can also prefer to download developer ROM if you wish to play around, but be ready to handle if there are any minor bugs coz that is dev rom.
Good luck flashing!

If coming from an older version of MIUI then you do not need to full wipe. He releases a new version every week/Friday...here is the main page. Search for the latest date and go into that folder. In this case it's 5.1.9(date being 1/9/2015)...Our phone is named "dior". Every week you can go in and get the latest build. Just flash that in recovery without wiping your data and everything will stay intact. You will need to flash the latest SuperSU zip along with the ROM to maintain root or use the built in root app. The fact that you are rooted now does not matter.

Thanks for the useful information .. :good:
After flashing the following rom ..
Android version 4.4.4 KTU84P
MIUI version MIUI 4.12.26 Beta
Baseband version MPSS.DI.3.0-39afeeb
Kernel version 3.4.0-g26e4aff-00654-g222c97
Received the message 'Unfortunately, the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped'. However, all the applications can run without problem.
What I missed in the flashing?
If you're coming from anything besides MIUI then you have to do a full wipe....Also, no need to flash a baseband or kernel. I would start fresh with the latest build from 1/10

Should I also flash the gapps for KK as well?
Talking about doing a full wipe, can I use PhilipZ recovery to do this?
Yes you can use Philz to wipe. Don't flash gapps. They're already included in these MIUI builds and it could cause issues.

Custom rom fpr Huawei Ascend G740

G'Day everyone!
I would like to upgrade my ol' Huawei Ascend G740 to a newer firmware, but since Huawei doesnt release updates by themselfes, i thought about doing that by using custom recovery.
But i dont really want to use an official rom, i have Jelly Bean 4.1.2 and im not really happy with it. i prefer to have lightweight systems (like slim bean) without tons of Bloatware in it, so i started googeling. But i cant seem to find ANY roms for my smart phone, is the G740 that uncommon that nobody bothered to support that device? or is it possible to get roms for similar smartphones and install it on my (rooted) G740-L00? i dont know.
And if theres really no good custom rom for my G740 out there, i would like to update my phone to Andoird 4.4 anyways, even if that means to use official stock roms like KitKat or whatever, in that case, which one would you recommend?
I hope you guys can help me out!
Greeting,
- Manu

Guide to debloat MIUI

I've searched but couldn't find anything useful about how to best debloat a Chinese MIUI ROM for the non-Chinese market? I'm awaiting a Xiaomi Mi 5S in the coming days which doesn't have an internatinoal ROM yet albeit any other AOSP cloaser ROM. So it will be coming with a Chinese ROM. I would surely like to debloat it properly and make Google apps available on it by default so it would be more like a normal Android phone. I've heard that MIUI is a ice ROM (only been using Nexus devices so far, but never tried anything else apart from original AOSP or some custom AOSP ROM (becase device wasn't officially supported any more by Google). So. Debloat a MIUI 8 then...
Flash xiaomi.eu ROM

This should help: http://xiaomitips.com/download/google-installer-app/
I haven't tested it myself, as I'm also waiting for the phone delivery.
This is just for the whole google stuff, you might want to first uninstall all apps in the normal app uninstall menu.
Flash xiaomi.eu ROM as @Klanac89 said and then I use App Quarantine to freeze remaining bloatware. Works a dream.
How to disable "security" app without issues? When I try delete apk with root I have a lot of FC and other issues.
Is there any way possible to instal a stock-like ROM on the Xiaomi Mi5S? Cyanogenmod for example, rooting, TWRP recovery all that stuff.
Thanks in advance

But is xiaomi.eu ROM official or is it just some other ROM that's faking officiality?
xiaomi.eu ROM is a custom rom, like CM. It just looks more or less the same and I think it's even part the same developers as the official ROM, but that's just a guess.

If they're not official devs, then I don't know how are they able to create custom ROM as Xiaomi hasn't officially released kernel sources? XDA developers can't do zilch about custom ROMS but they can. That would make them either creme de la creme of Android/Linux devs or they just have access to more Xiaomi original sources than the rest of the world does... Is there a third option?

I suppose they could be yes, but one would need either source code of all those APKs or at least a working reverse engineered source. Which gets us basically back to square one. There's a lot more APK sources than there is of the kernel. I would guess so. Which simply means much more work.
Honestly I'm not sure. I don't have an account at xiaomi.eu (yet), but maybe you want to ask your question there?

flash the mi 5s poland version rom which is official
https://miuipolska.pl/DOWNLOAD/
I haven't flashed it yet. However, from my past experience, the Polak rom comes rooted and debloated.
Hmm if that is the same as the official beta ROM, then this version doesn't yet include support for the MI 5s. That was probably completely added this week, in the new version 6.11.24 (source: http://en.miui.com/thread-417573-1-1.html). Release notes with the list of supported devices will be out tomorrow. Last weeks version included the 5s for the first time, but it was "on hold - because of new drivers", which means no download links.

No download links in 6.11.24 either. And I suspect that device listing has a typo as instead of stating Mi 5s it should likely state Mi 5s Plus which does have global ROM support. I sincerely hope there will be a global ROM for Mi 5s as well in the near future, but that may never happen. I hope my request to unlock doesn't get rejected though, so I have hopes of flashing the EU version... BTW: 6.11.24 still has Mi 5, Mi 5s (plus), Mi Mix on hold because of Qualcomm.

If this is official ROM then you should be able to flash it without unlocking your device. If an unlock is required, then I'm afraid this is not official as I'm pretty sure there is no special Polish version of the ROM. It's either Chinese or Global... Everything else is unofficial and requires bootloader unlock.
