About to bring an G2 to Cricket, wondering how to get future roms/kernels for it here - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Title. I've found a thread elsewhere with files and instructions for installing Kitkat and would love to get Android L and any other roms and kernels that devs may upload for it.
Do I need to worry about baseband distinctions?

[Q] noob looking for guides on building custom roms

hello everyone i am fairly new to the world of android ive only had 2 android phones the first was a samsung transform which i rooted and had everything done to it that was possible but recently traded it for an echo and to my dismay cannot root it so i am gonna try and build my own custom rom just dont know how to do it ive been looking online for guides but it seems like everyone i found only works with htc? if someone could please guide me in the right path on finding guides on building roms that would be awsome i am curious to learn this whole process thanx
This probably isnt the right place for your post, a section called Android Development for your specific phone would be a great place to start a thread.
As for the question though, there generally speaking are no guides for building roms. Most people will start small, with mods or themes, then slowly grow into full roms. Although based on your post, your phone cannot be rooted, so how are you expecting to install the rom without root?

[Q] ROMs - Selection and Other Questions

Hi Guys,
I've got a stock A500 and due to the conflicting reports as to whether Acer will provide an OTA update to Jellybean, I've decided to flash a custom ROM as there as some minor quirks that are starting to bug me.
Anyway, I've found the thread to explain what to do - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1205204 - but it's left me with a couple of questions.
Selection of ROM
I can see at http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1136 there are links to various threads relating to custom ROMs such as CM10 Jellybean, AOKP Jellybean and CM10 Jellytime etc.
1) These have other topics scattered throughout so I was wondering if there's a page that summarises the various JB ROMs out there with a link to their topic page?
2) Without knowing each of the developers, how does one choose which ROM to use? Is there such a thing as a "vanilla/Plain-Jane" JB ROM?
3) Each of these topics have the first post outlining the ROM with a link to the zip file. Does the author update this link in the 1st post if there's update to the ROM or do you need to read through all the posts to see if the author has an updated link?
4) Once you've installed a custom ROM, how do you know if there's updates? Does the Update in Settings work or do you need to manually come back to the topic and see if the zip file is updated?
ROM/Kernel
At http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1205204 it says that you need
external SD card, root rights, unlocked bootloader (if you're on stock ICS), custom recovery and a custom ROM of your choice.

Yet further down it talks about Custom ROMs and Custom Kernels.
1) What are the differences?
2) What does a Kernel do?
3) Do I need this or just the ROM?
Thanks
PS - Not sure if this topic is better suited to be in http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1136, but since it's a question, the rules say that it should go in the Q&A section.

4.4.2 KitKat "clean" ROM?

I am looking for a Rom based on the 4.4.2 Kitkat stock ROM from Samsung and keeping TouchWiz but getting rid of all the bloatware/useless crap I don't want/need.
There was one here linked on the forum, based on 4.2.2 but it no longer supports S4 for the later versions.
Does anybody else have any good recomendations?
Obviously, needs to support i337.
Thanks!
XDA is a development site not a support site, members are expected to do their own research, read through the development threads, and decide what is BEST for them.
Please take the time to read through those development threads, learn all about the software there is for use, and interact with members in those threads as you are about to drastically alter your very expensive device.

[Q] Just a few questions!

Hi fellow G2 users!
Got my G2 a few days ago (I know I'm about a year late) but this phone seems awesome. Model is D802.
I did a lot of reading before doing anything and so far - I am on stock LG rom, rooted, installed TWRP with autorec, flashed a volume mod and installed xposed with g2 tweaksbox. So far I have nothing to complain about.
Anyway, now come the questions - my previous phone was a sensation, and to have that fully ready to flash, it required unlocking the bootloader, S-OFF, radio flashing and root.
1. Is there anything else I need to do here? This is my main question. I did a lot of reading before posting this or doing anything to my phone. I only do something once Im completely sure I know how.
2. I've read about flashing modems of some sort and came across this link - xda wont let me post links for the 1st 10 posts... Its a site like codefi.re/autoprime
Can someone please tell me what the 4 different versions of the D802 files are?
3. Any recommended ROMS/kernels that are absolutely brilliant? I know that all devs make great roms but with specifically battery life, STABILITY, and all the LG features (like knock on and the new message reply box thing and quickmemo, etc) I have heard a lot about Pardus. Might try that out soon if I dont get any other recommendations.
4. I read about Jishnu's camera mod. The links have been deleted from his thread. Is it okay to ask if anyone has a backup? I would like to try it if possible.
5. I read about Viper Sound Mod. Is there an updated method of installing this on stock rom? The thread I found seemed outdated and half the links were invalid
Nobody?
Depends on what you want. Have you researched aosp roms? All the things you looked up are fine. Tweaks for a ton will help enrich its use but to change to a complete different operating system is what you should try out if you want to see something different. Modems usually come with the rom. Make sure you flash the correct variant for your device.

SM-S820L Lollipop Update?

Is there any way to get Android Lollipop on the Galaxy Core Prime SM-S820L? I have read about custom ROM's but I still don't know much about them and can't find any for this model. If anyone has found or created a way to flash a custom ROM onto this device, please let me know.

I also own this device, and unfortunately there is very limited support in the custom Rom department. If there was to be a lollipop Rom, someone would either have to port one somehow, or build it from source. Given the development rate for this device, I don't predict it happening anytime soon, sorry to say.
not going to happen
i have been trying since february the answer i got from my carier was samsung is contracted not to support this device thats why that is so hard to find samsung told me to take the device to bestbuy to force update if they could probably irrelavent but maby it helps
SM-S820L Got the Shaft!
Yup! This seems to be the future for the SM-S820L, or lack of future I should say.
I too have the Samsung Galaxy Core Prime SM-S820L. I have spent lots of hours scouring the internet looking through every android related forum in hopes of eventually finding someone that is undertaking much needed programming to build a custom ROM for this CorePrime version.
If you are looking for a custom recovery to use. I can point you to my and others posts over at Needrom. The best I can offer is an unofficial TWRP release, but it DOES work! It does for myself at least and I am no Android Guru whatsoever.
I guess I am not allowed to post Links in any of my posts yet because I am still a NOOB on these forums. I'll PM you with some direction my friend!
I cannot take credit for coming up with any of that software. I simply rooted around long enough to compile a collection of tools and files that worked for me to modify the Recovery of my SM-S820L.
:good: Feel free to shoot me a Private Message on this site or to my personal Email....... [email protected]
I would love to help out as much as I can with modding your phone. Like I said, I'm not a proffesional but I have read up on the procedures used and been successful with my own Galaxy Core Prime:laugh:
