[Q] Former moderator with Noob questions - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Okay, I have not flashed in about a year since I got my knox-ridden Note 3 and I am ready to get back into the game. I have busted knox and installed CWM touch and have a couple of questions
Do you still have to do a full wipe on all roms first time out?
Is there a way to quickly reinstall all of your programs that is reliable (cwm backup, titanium etc)
If yes to last what should i not restore does anything cause problems
Are there any tips
What is the most stable full featured rom (I know everyone has a favorite)

Full wipe is advisable yes, but I've dirty flashed plenty of times previously.
Yeah you can use titanium backup to restore apps just don't do it for system apps
Make sure you make an EFS backup, use the script i n the dev section and avoid play store efs backup apps as they brick Samsung devices.
Cwm touch is great, however it's not supported anymore (philz has stopped development and cwm is outdated) switch over to TWRP.
To summerise.
Flash twrp (don't need root FYI) then flash your ROMs as and when you need/want.

There is a couple of S5 ports for the Note 3, not 100% on the features (S-Pen) but people seem to like them.

you can also try MultiX v2.2. it is fully odexed and has aroma installer for many customisation. For me, it's very stable, good battery life, great support and it's one of the fastest TW rom i have used so far

[Q] Noob needing help updating and backing up

Hi all...sorry if this is very noob but hope someone can help me out...
i got my galaxy s4 for att and its been great so far...i did root it and got rid of all the junk stuff on the phone which was nice to do... but a little issue now..there is an OTA update and its trying to apply it by rebooting but it goes to my console screen i guess and i know even if it applies it it would get rid of root.... is there a way to apply this without having to reinstall all my emails (5 emails) and my apps and keep the root ability on it? I would love to get the feature to send apps to my SD thats the only reason i really want it.
again im sorry if this is very noobish to some of u but would like a nice guide if possible how to do it.
Thanks in advance
What device? Thats important, and DO NOT let it do the update. if you are rooted, you could freeze the samsung updater.
I would get off stock and flash a custom rom.

hehe I know you stated galaxy s4, but I needed to make sure, US version right?
Use my rom, mine is totally stock, with a few modifications, and FAST!
or you can go any TW rom.
here is mine..

I use Infamous S4 as well, I love it. It's pretty stock feeling.
When it comes to the backing up part, I suggest Titanium Backup. Get the pro version and you can batch install all of your apps from a backup, otherwise you have to do it one by one. It also saves all app data and system data and accounts, so you can do a full wipe when installing an update or a new ROM (always a good idea,) then just let it completely restore the phone from a backup. You can use it to back-up everything, except for the home-screen layout (android limitation apparently.) Plus you can backup right to the phone if you have space so you don't have to wory about using the computer. I recomment getting a microSD card for 10 bucks at Staples and backing up to that. When you're restoring, make sure that you check what you're restoring. Most of the stuff in red are system apps that don't need to be restored (as newer or the same versions may already be installed from the update.)
For restoring root priviledges, CWM and TWRP custom rrecoveries have a tool for this.

well on first note you can flash a rooted kk and keep recovery there are two ways of doing so, now for your first question recommending roms is not that good because everyone has a different preference in my case I need power and battery life since I mainly use my phone for gaming but you might have something else in mind so it's always best to just just flash on your own until you find something that suits your needs
Madhi rom is a pretty good rom and stable rom. So far I found 0 bugs with my everyday use. I recommend it. And having a nandroid backup makes the return to your stock rom a 5 minute process, if you didn't like it

Thanks man, can you give me a link? And nandroid backup is in cwm recovery right?
nandroid backup is called the process of taking backup your entire phone . data system cache etc.
You can find it in all custom recovery programs cwm , twrp .VERY VERY VERY usefull
I used both cwm and twrp for nandroid backup and it's a pretty straightforward process.
here is the link for Mahdi ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2590700

[Q] Samsung Note 3 Downgrade from Android 5 to 4.4.4 or stock

Hello
INFO
I've installed the echoe rom version 22 http://echoerom.com/roms/echoefull/note-3/ on my phone ( samsung note 3 [n9005])
(with a the AEL kernel don't know if this is usefull info http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-3/development/mods-xxugbnl8-t2986519) )
also I've changed the bootloader to the appropriate Found on the XDA forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2495688
BL_N9005XXUGBNL8_CL3643614_QB3415922_REV00_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar.md5
I've changed my modem to CP_N9005XXUGBNL8_CL3643614_QB3415922_REV00_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar.md5 (which was a bad decision no 4g/lte anymore)
I've upgraded my recovery from cwm 6.0.4.6 to cwm 6.0.4.7
I did a back of my imei and efs just in case something would harm it and render my phone useless.
Problem:
Now I'm wondering can i go back to, either Stock 4.4.4 or a custom rom
I want to do this because the Rom is too new and not all apps i want to use, such as xposed framework and many other are unsupported. (which i should have checked before flashing)
Plus I'm not enjoying this rom due to many crashes, such as Unified Daemon (EUR)(needed for weather updates etc) and limited mobile data speeds and many mobile data disconnections, also I notice my Note 3 is running slower while using less ram than before which is very odd..
Many thanks in advance!
P.S.
I have all the files online I've made an online back up of them so which I always do for repairing purposes none of them is altered or tampered with by me.
Sir,
Please wait until mods will move this thread to the device specific forum.

Yes u can!!!!flash your stock rom with Odin and everything will be fine!!!
HIT THE THANKS BOTTOM IF I HELP YOU IN ENYWAY!!!!!
I was trying out some lollipop roms and in my stupidity didn't think about not being able to go back to kitkat.
After finding that a few apps I use don't like lollipop i thought I'd revert back, I went into recovery and tried to flash the kitkat rom, but it would keep failing. Panicking I remembered the nandroid backup. I restored my older kitkat rom and all worked well... Phew!
Moral of this story is always backup.
I'm now back on a lollipop rom, (audax) as so far everything is working like clockwork. But I still have my nandroid backup just in case
Lucky you! ;-p i don't have a nandroid ba-up but i do have the stock rom 4.3 somewhere i might try that after my exams are over! Thanks!

Well I haven't tried it but if a nandroid works a clean install via odin or the cmd way should overwrite everything on your device so if you follow a tutorial for restoring your device to stock you should be ok i think BUT I haven't tried it so please ask around some more.

[Q] Best Rom for SGN3 SM-N9005?

Hello guys, I'd would like to ask which are the best roms for Samsung Galaxy Note 3 SM-N9005 Android 5.0? I've upgraded to stock lollipop rom 3 months ago. Sooo, What is the best rom for my phone? Also, is there anyway to upgrade my phone without deleting my apps/files? Thanks!

You've been around XDA long enough to know 'best ROM' posts are not welcome...
Best way to update though is to be rooted and use a custom Recovery like TWRP to nandroid your phone. Then you can update and Restore only Data and have almost everything back.
I also use Call logs backup and restore and SMS backup and restore so i don't lose them and I export my contacts out to extSDCard so I don't lose them either.
Add in TiBu Pro with a backup of all user (and a few sysdtem) apps and I can restore ONLY apps and have a clean flash phone.

Different ROMs suit different needs. The Mods have said no ETA posts and no best ROM posts. Look around and try things out. Best advixce is make sure you read plenty FIRST. Go through the threads and see what issues people have etc. BEFORE you flash the ROM.
Alright, thanks!

Fed up with MIUI slow rom delivery? Fret not, tons of custom roms coming soon!

As per title.
Some of the roms in work today are Mokee, Cynagenmod 13.0 and Flyme OS.
Pardon some of the links are in Chinese but using google web translate tools should be fine.
Mokee: http://www.miui.com/thread-3919401-1-1.html
Cynagenmod 13.0: http://en.miui.com/thread-247832-1-1.html
Flyme 4.5: http://www.miui.com/thread-3934067-1-1.html or http://www.miui.com/thread-3934067-1-1.html
Okay, a little update, found the link to the Cynagenmod 13.0 rom.

Indeed they are. You can't flash custom recovery on locked bootloader, so it results in not being able to flash ROMs.

The problem was that the phone was deleting my backups without my consent. So I wanted to make full backups. Now I have unlocked and TWRP so it's cool.
Quite honestly, I am a bit dissatisfied with the development on Redmi 3. I would like to use working CM13, or just get fixed what is not working correctly in CM12.
But, lets wait for that friends!

I agree! Wish a fully functional CM12 / 13 would be available! In a perfect scenario, a CM official would be just the best thing!
