Great video and your crazy to take apart your brand new phone. But I have to say you have balls.

awesome video

Looks like the connector for the xt1080 battery is in a different spot so swapping the turbo battery to the xt1080 would be difficult?

Connector is completely different than xt1080 and I highly doubt the phone would accept a different battery since there is a chip that reads the battery and vice versa so would reject a different battery of different types.

Awesome video man. I have a question for you about the back cover. Does it seem to still fit good after breaking the adhesive seal? Also, was it very difficult to remove the back with the adhesive? I see that you had to stop the video to do it. Thanks again for the video.

So technically speaking if I were to buy the mgf back cover from a 3rd party to replace the ballistic nylon on my 64gb model it would fit fine?

The mgf and bl are slightly different dimensions, and this may have everything to do specifically with the back. So I wouldn't say its safe to assume it will fit, but I would give it a shot because you can probably make it fit one way or another.

I'd give it away for free... but i bought a replacement cuz my phone fell down n got a few dents and scratches... and i couldnt bear to see it even with a single scratch!
And it fits perfectly by the way.... The MFG has a rectangle plastic piece sorta thing attached to it to give more support, gotta pull it out and stick it on to the Blue Nylon back... i just tried out to see if it fits.... When i am gonna do the final transition i will post pics...

Also, let me know if you want to get rid of the MFG back. I'll gladly take it off your hands.

Grow some bigger manlier hands or put a rubbery case on it and be done with it.
I didn't really have any slipperiness problems, but I put a rubber case on it anyhow as I feel silly putting stickers all over it. (I am using a screen protector.) I care more that it is in good condition than that people see what kind of phone I have though.
The phone isn't slippery like soap. I think what he means is its pretty thin and easy to lose grip of it because of its shape if you dont hold it right. I had a fe close calls with it but haven't dropped it yet.
Oh I get it... I can reach the entire screen & trackball with my thumb the way I hold it though and didn't have any near drops or anything in the days before I put the cover on it. So as I said, grow some bigger hands!
It's not even close to being as slippery as the MyTouch/Ion/Magic.

I agree - some times the unit is soooo slippery. I suspect though, with the cold weather, my hands are fairly dry. Try putting some moisturiser (E45?) on & see if it makes any difference!

Try beautiful widgets in the market....
If you can find the old version anywhere it even has the HTC - style flipclock...
My N1 felt too fragile until I got my case now I can have a bit more peace of mind.

We mixed it up a little! Black phone/white battery cover and vice versa!

My fiance and I originally tried to order the black Note 4s, but we could only order white at the time.
My white one was available last Thursday and all went smoothly but Best Buy made a mess of her
order so we ended up with a black N4 from Verizon for her. We then came up with the idea to swap
covers and we like the results. Now we're looking for clear cases that will accommodate the mic
holes on the Verizon N4 while still allowing us to appreciate our simple, yet beautiful & most likely not original
(though original to us) works of art.
PS I've never had a female share my taste in phones so this is the first time I've actually able to do
this. It's been a very bonding experience. LOLS! And she did not make me type this part.
I like it!
I'm doing the same but with a white spigen case on Black GN4.
I'm personally considering buying a gold frame to replace the black one once they are available on eBay.
Would be black with gold trim, very nice in my opinion.
Thanks! And you have good taste!

We may end up going your route after all as I hate not having a case on it (at least at first). Still uncertain which cases work for the Verizon model though.

It's actually super easy to replace! If you watch a Note 4 disassembly video, you'll see that the aluminum frame can be replaced simply by unscrewing the back and undoing the clips. If you'd like to do the same, all you have to do is get a small screw driver and a guitar pick (or plastic knife, or whatever will undo the side plastic clip).
Here's the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OReK7M_6zg0
This guy takes the whole thing apart, but you'll just need to watch up to 4:30 to see what I'm talking about.
This is also useful information for anyone who scratches their camera lens or dings up the frame and wants to replace it for resale or something.

If so, how did it turn out?
Haven't done it yet- I can only find the part through authorized samsung part resellers at the moment and they are trying to charge $100 for it. I am waiting for the chinese manufacturers to sell straight from the factory ($10-15) on eBay. But it will be a direct replacement, super easy to do.

I've already told her I may be trying out the edge and we'll have to switch covers if and when I do so.

Guys just a quick update for anyone interested in a gold frame. It looks like this one is compatible with the Verizon Note 4...
http://www.ebay.com/itm/261701823333
I determined this by downloading the image with entire inside of the frame visible (flat, not the side angle view), and scaling it on screen to the size of my note 4. I then lined it up and it looks like it fits the Verizon mic holes. I believe its because they are the same as the international [N910F] holes. For $60, it's still a bit too much for me, but for some people that really want a black/gold or white/gold look and are willing to pay a little bit for it, it's definitely a great option! Also, it will keep you from scratching the frame that came with the phone for better resale value later.
I haven't seen one that's compatible with the T-Mobile/AT&T version's holes yet. Will keep you all updated.
I did the exact same thing today. I don't use cases and wanted a different look on my Note. Actually wanted just the black back with "Samsung" on it but I found none on Amazon that would let me use my Prime and I have need for instant gratification. So, I went with the black Verizon back on my Frost White Verizon Note. LOVE IT!
Thanks for posting this! I was really curious to see how it would like and it turns out it actually looks quite nice!

The back comes off?

So, I dropped my phone. Noticed that around the volume button and then on the other side that the back was separated from the front. Thinking, oh crap, the back doesn't come off, I was already having nightmares about going to verizon. I pushed the back, back onto the frame and it snapped into place on both sides. I was too much of a wuss to try to remove it again but, I think the back actually comes off this phone and is just held on like all removable back phones, it just snaps into place. I have the ballistic nylon back.
ANyone know for sure?

I watched the teardown video. The back is held down by clips I think, so you can actually pry it off if you have a shim to get into there.
Well yeah, if it can be put together it can be taken apart. What it comes down to is how easily it can be done without damaging the phone. iDevices have always been made without a removable back, but as far as I know all of them can be taken apart for servicing. I replaced the HDD in my 2nd or 3rd gen iPod like 5 times and the battery once before wising up and ditching that Apple crap (that was my first and last Apple product).

A guitar pick has always worked great for me, Razrmaxx, & RazrmaxxHD. I haven't needed to yet on my ballistic 64, but the video shows it working like the past Moto's
Second that. guitar pick worked great!
I see that there are ballistic nylon backs being sold on eBay now. I wonder how long before the metallized Kevlar backs show up. It will be awesome to be able to switch them out.
I put the red volume key in the black plastic so it now it has a red accent. Also the M comes out on the ballistic nylon. I actually plan on removing the M, I'm putting in some sort of metal dish. Then using that does to attach to a magnetic car dock for wireless charging. yeah, I might end up taking this too far lol

The camera picked up every flaw the eye cant see lol I took one of the LG car charging pads, a cheap $10 RadioShack car dock. Took the charging pad apart and put four magnets. One in each corner. then I took the cheap Doc I bought and cut the legs off of it and plastic welded them to the LG pad . Then I took the sticky part of the cheap dark and super glued it to the pad. It holds just fine without the little legs. But I like the extra support. Doesn't look too great without a phone on it. But once I put my phone on it all you see is the phone. looks like it's floating.
Edit. the back of the Droid turbo has metal in it. So its magnetic. If you put a magnet on the center and triggers the flip case. But keeping them off the side seems to be just fine
But the real question is... Can you access, remove, and replace the battery?

Interesting. That blob in the middle is the sticky part of the cheap dock? Do the magnets hold the phone without that sticky stuff? Is it hard to line up the phone with the charging coil? Does it get a steady current to charge?
Also, would you be able to point me to the exact charging pad you used so I know it would work?
I may have myself a project, lol... I'm wondering if something like this would work with the Turbo:

Without the bloob it will hold. But not really strong. I'm going to revisit this project, I just needed the dock backup so I could go to work lol because I tried 2 hours and I like having somewhere to put my phone. Any qi charging pad will work with the Droid turbo. The one I have is the LG puck. Just make sure whatever you get it's designed for a car. 12 volts, not 110.
Probably next weekend or whenever I have the time I'm going to take off the back of the Droid turbo and put some metal in there, like grind down some razor blades to fit. One just below the M & 1 just above the droid logo. That will give it a much stronger hold that I can get rid of the blob and the legs. I just have a very strong fear of the phone falling off while driving and face planting into my shift knob lol.

Ha. Your version of "not too difficult" definitely differs from mine. I suppose if your battery was absolutely dead and you had no other choice, but when you start talking about adhesive and heat guns thats a little outside of realm of a simple replacement.

I bought some neodymium magnets, but I still don't think it will hold while driving. I haven't finished yet though. I also have a bad feeling it won't actually charge because the magnets are interfering with the charging coil.

What did you use to bond the cork to the back cover?
Double sided adhesive tape wich is normaly used for display repairs. And the cork is actually cork-leather i bought via etsy.com
It's nice. However, I can tell it was just laid on top of whatever back you have
Thats right. Im still to afraid to put off the battery cover. But i am sure with some glass fiber attached to it would it work as a replacement.

One thing I don't like about the Bamboo back of my Moto X is how slippery it is.
As grippy as the softtouch back. It feels like a harder leather or softer wood. Difficult to describe.
