Fire Tv - Ultimate PlayStation 1 System (PS1) - Fire TV General

Playstation 1 Games play smoothly on the Fire TV using Emulators for Android, because of the faster processor and 2 GB Ram it feel like a PS1 on steroids.
I used Amazon Controller and it was working nicely, you could even connect a PS3 controller, to get the ultimate Playstation experience.
Here is the video how to, Peace:
http://youtu.be/cgayRcYw2vY

I've been using epsxe emulator for playing old PS1 games. I've only tested 3 so far due to space limitations on the AFTV. Final Doom didn't work at all just black screen. Kula World works but has graphical glitches and Tomb Raider Last Revalation works perfectly. The sooner Amazon enable USB to be used for external storage the better as I've only room for one PSX game at a time due to low memory and my AFTV is less than a week old.

Yes me too I would love to see the fire Tv with the USB Storage enabled or even a new model that's offer 64 gigs of stores, because it's can't replace many physical Devices. And I have a feeling that the next fire TV Will be fantastic.

Do you have to have root to do this?

No, no root required. Just sideload the epsxe apk (or Fpse apk). You'll also need a PS1 bios and game rom files for whichever game you want to play. And a controller.

Curious if you have this working with ROM Collection Browser and if so what emulator you are using?

Haven't used this with rcb yet only using standalone emulator but mame and SNES 9x both work with rcb. Had never used it before until tonight so took a while to learn to configure. Will try epsxe with it tomorrow.

Set one of my aftv with a sideloaded free version of epsxe and the game Medievil last night. All went well except that I had to map all the buttons on the Fire tv game controller. Game play was very responsive and extremely good quality picture.
Is there any way to have games on my network storage and access/play from there?

I don't think that would be possible. Think the psx rom images would be way too big to do this over a home network. Hopefully I'm wrong as I keep all my different game roms on a drive together and would love to be able to access and play from this via a network share.

PSXperia problems

Hey guys, I'm not sure if someone else has these problems but I need help. I recently went to a charity shop which is known for selling games for the Nintendo 64, Playstation and Playstation 2 and 6th generation gaming. I found what is my favourite game, Metal Gear Solid; I've purchased it for 2 euro and I've already bought Metal Gear Solid for my PS3 and PSP. Now I bought it again to use it on PSXperia and I made a unofficial port of Metal Gear Solid. I was absolutely excited to play it at school and work. I managed to install the APK. and put the SD files in their correct place, yet every time I open the game up I just get a black screen then I get forced back into Playstation Pocket/Home launcher, I've also encountered these problems with Marvel VS Capcom: Clash of the Superheroes. Now the real question, how do I fix this and make sure it never happens again.
Specs: Xperia R800i o2/ Android 2.3.4/non-rooted.
Thanks in advance.
Try to use Fpse instead or other PSX emulator. Check on market.
Not all games works under internal emulator.

Games that do run generally perform better than FPse and/or ePSXe but unfortunately not all games are compatible. See here:
Code:
https://github.com/yifanlu/PSXperia/wiki/Compatibility
If other games have converted and worked for you, its just the game.

I have that but the sound doesn't work, (Yar, yar me mateys)
ePSXe works but it doesn't feel as good as the eternal emulator, I mean the sound is a bit buggy and the game always freezes in ePSXe.
FPSe is hard to get easily (I'm only in high school and parents are too over-protective over credit card over stores)
Crash Bandicoot is amazingly well ported on the eternal emulator.
It could be the disc doesn't even work, have you tried playing the disc and not just the downloaded versions from the PSN store?
When you copied the disc what file format was the disc in? .iso? .bin? Maybe try a few different types.
I would say if you have the option then get FPSE or ePSXe for android (I haven't come across any more or any less issues with internal emulator than I have with these applications)
Also see if your parents will okay carrier billing if they are concerned about their cc information. I use it regularly and it works great

Sometimes simple reboot will help you out, Sometimes it has required several attempts to launch the game.
if it doesnt work try clearing all folders and starting all from the scratch again (asuming you are speaking about PSXperia converter)
make sure you have ripped the correct files from US release of Crash 1 (not EU or UK)
If you still cant get it to work try downloading it and other region versions.
where do I get this "eternal emulator" ?...seems mighty.. xD

My amazing experience, Splashtop thd /Tincore + no router + no nvidia.

Iv been playing with my shield for awhile and have had an amazing experience, despite the obvious poor marketing of the product and unnecessary handicap nvidia has added in order to boost gpu sales with regards to streaming(I only buy nvidia graphic cards but it still should not be required).
The shield is the best handheld iv ever owned, I felt compelled to share my experience
1. created a virtual hotspot on my sony vaio duo 11 hd 4000 gpu(most laptops have dual band network cards built in) and connected shield. No router was necessary.(although a router would be a few frames faster)
Loaded Splastop thd gamepad
In gamepad mode you can just easily click any key on your shield and it registers on any game config menu on your pc!! that was awesome.
Played
Metro last night, loved it!
Borderlands 2, Worked Awsome! Im never going near my alienware M15x again. (used fullscaler to run games fullscreen 720p)
2 Loaded PPSSPP on my LAPTOP, streamed it to my shield!! Played Gta Liberty city, crisis core, god of war all full speed! And streamed perfect.
3. Played Fangz HD, Gangstar Vegas, Brotherhood of violence (gets better) all mapped with TinCore keys. Perfect experience.
Why the shield is better than my other devices in MY opinion.
a.Moga pro cannot pull any of this off due to the lag
b.My other devices could stream but needed the 360 controller to be attached to the pc
I felt compelled to say how much i love the shield so I wrote this, however Im very disappointed that Nvidia chose to force people to buy a new gpu to enjoy it when it can easily work with almost any Gpu. I have an Alienware M15x with a 560m which i did not use this time due to network issues.. however Im not sure if I want a new desktop. The hardware limitation seems artificial, still this is the best device iv owned.
My devices
xperia tablet z,iphone 5, galaxy s4 with moga pro
Ps vita, dsi
Hope splashtop THD comes to shield natively)
How did you get Splashtop THD working on your shield? When I look it up in the Play store, it says it's not compatible with the Shield. Really looking to see how this works, because I want to find some way to play Steam games on my shield and miracast stream them to my TV at the same time.
you have to side load the apk file which you can find online. it works great.

can get PPSSPP natively on Shield, works great apparently.
I know how you feel about the shield it's an amazing device with infinite possibilities for example you can play from DOS to PSP emulators you can play real PC games ,Android games , watch movies ,stream movies, browse the web, chat basically this device does it all
you should try Kainy is sometimes better than splashtop http://www.kainy.com/

I only wish I could stick in my sim card and use it as my AIO phablet/gamingconsole. Looking into a micro usb sim modem to possibly get to work.
Im going to try kainy, it looks a bit complicated to connect, I use splashtop thd because the mouse works perfectly on it, it feels its emulating a gamepad. the other splashtop personal is deliberately broken by the company when it comes to gaming because the mouse movement is way off and in most other games the mouse movement is impossible.
forgot to mention the battery life.. it lasts for hours n hours, I can stream all day!
Isn't Lag present ??
Is it almost the same lag you see (See video) & tell
I've taken a video of the same using Kainy.

Streaming from a pc is way smoother, Nativly PPSSPP cant play many games properly on the shield, God of war for example.

No, my lag is nothing like that even without a router, Make sure your laptop or pc has wireless N(you must have a wireless N card) enabled and you are using WPA2 encryption. (you need to use it for high speed access)
and
a. use splashtop THD, gamepad mode .. sadly you cant stream lower than 720p (so there maybe a slight lag barely noticeable)
b..Dont use the touchscreen to control games it wont work well.
c. when makeing a virtual hotspot, directly connect to your pc, do not connect to your router..

Haha yea Iv tried that it still doesnt give you the same feeling as the shield mainly because even the speakers are so good and the battery outlasts everything, but yes there is a flaw with the weight and screen size of the shield.
Iv updated ppsspp but I get 100% speed on pc when I stream to the shield. When I load it on my shield natively it runs around 60% to 65% im sure it will get there soon.
I just tried splashtop THD and Kainy is not even close to the nvidia streaming I didn't noticed lag in splashtop but image quality is poor same with kainy and that one lag as hell
there is no way to show people how much better is the nvidia streaming to the shield until they can see it in person the image is at least 90% of what you see in the computer is almost like you playing the game natively on the shield
More people need to mail splashtop to officially support the shield in the THD version, since the d-pad and left stick are pre locked to WASD
I'll try out how SplashTop does
And post a video if possible soon!

I'll be glad to make comparison videos if someone will be able to port the Shield streaming app to other device removing the chipset check
Splashtop 2 is the last version I used to stream. I will agree that the quality of the stream is very low in comparison to what I was actually on my pc.

Yes the compression quality between splastop personal and THD when hooked up nvidia gpu's is on a very noticeable level, Im not sure what they are doing with THD tegra to nvidia streaming but its got some sort of specific coding maybe someone can find out since it works with all previous gen nvidia cards.
I'd like to jump in with some newb questions:
If I download splashtop THD and combine it with Tincore, I can mimic using the shield game streaming? As in, I can play something like FFXIV from my computer to it and be able to control it properly?
THD is on sale right now 50% @ $9.99 Do I buy it even tho it isn't "compatible"?

Awesome Thank You! Yea excited to see more apps updated to work with the mojo. Really impressed by the power of the little guy.
Hello, I was wondering about these games.. Modern Combat 4, Dead on Arrival 2, NOVA 3, Dungeon Hunter 4? They are all listed on TegraZone and are controller enabled, so they should work right?

Not all games in the Tegra Zone are downloadable out of the play store for the Mojo. The Tegra Zone refers to apps that are designed to work with the Tegra gpu not specifically non touch screen interfaces. So amusingly the Tegra Zone app isn't available for the Mojo in the play store yet.
Nova 3 is on the list. I'll check the other games later tonight.

Oh I see.. well there has to be another way to get the apk's and that will work on the Mojo.. I'm considering buying one and i'd like to know if atleast MC4, Dungeon Hunter 4, and Dead on arrival 2 is compatible. If not it might be more worthwhile to get a Moga and a MHL cable.

We're working with Gameloft to get support for the C.T.R.L.R into their games and for them to update the manifest so that they appear on M.O.J.O. - Real Football 2013 just got updated so that's now on the list, MC4 is due shortly and Dungeon Hunter 4 will be available early next year, according to their info. There are many more titles coming and anything new from Gameloft that supports controllers should have support for M.O.J.O. and the C.T.R.L.R when they launch.
Dead On Arrival 2 is a bit of an odd one as it was available on M.O.J.O. a month or so ago but a recent update must have altered the manifest and resulted in it no longer appearing on M.O.J.O.. We've contacted the developers but had no response so far - it does work with the C.T.R.L.R though so were you to sideload the APK then it would work fine.
All of the .EMU apps are compatible and buttons are able to be mapped properly.
You mention office suite and archos video player. Do the paid versions also show up (I bought them in the past and would prefer to use the complete versions).
As for Archos not allowing the codecs there is a third party codec solution for archos, "Archos Video All Codecs". Does that one work?
Does SE Explorer work? (By work I mean show up in the play store, and if so is that including the unlock key?)
Other apps I am curious about (whether the piad versions show up in the app store):
Poweramp
VidTrim Pro
Autodesk Sketchbook (either the "mobile" or "pro" version, it would be more for viewing the stuff done on the tablet on a bigger screen to check it out).
Textmaker
AndrOpen Office
As I said, I'm more interested whether they show up in the store for easy installation as they're not exactly touch reliant and generally work well with a mouse.
Thanks for all your hard work with this list which is helpful for people who already have the MOJO and those interested in buying it (like me).
@solsearch:
Archos (full) is there and works great, the free codec pack isn't compatible, though. MadCatz supplies us with MX Player Pro through their website. I don't like it as much, but it'll do.
The only office program I've purchased is OfficeSuite 7 Pro, and it is natively compatible and works wonderfully.
Sketchbook Pro isn't available, though.

Thanks. I can always export the stuff from sketchbook so it just would have been nice but not a necessity.
I've purchased more than one office app because none of them are quite perfect. Though in my opinion OfficeSuite 7 Pro and Textmaker are the better ones (but with different strengths, which is why I tend to use Textmaker more). But since AndrOpen Office came out and it's free it should be fine, especially since you can just rip the APK from free files no problem.

How did you get the buttons on the CTRLR to map? I couldn't figure it out. I tried options and put it in Key mode and it just doesn't register.
Also I can't get controller mode to work on Bard's Tale. Souls Craft seems to work perfectly fine.

The Bard's Tale is fine - just tested it to make sure and the CTRLR works perfectly in Gamesmart Mode.
I have a short question, but it would be helpful for developers.
I've contacted Speed Software to make the " Root Explorer " downloadable with M.O.J.O, and the developers of Dreamcast emulator " reicast ".
Both respond on my mails, but they don't know what might be necessary to change, that the Play Store allowed a download.
I want to help this problem fixing for more software, but need some more hints, what specially caused the store filter to flag software as not compatible ?

How does it run emulators?

So this device apparently starts shipping tomorrow right? When it does can someone please download some emulators and try them out? I would like to especially see the performance of PPSSPP, the PSP emulator. I would be eternally grateful to you. If you have access to various Bluetooth controllers I would like to hear about the compatibility of those as well if possible
Yes, If this product can smoothly run some of the games I have downloaded, then I should be picking one up. I'm sure it going to be hard to download games with such limted storage, but hopefully someone can showcase some quality android titles. It basically has OUYA specs; however, with a more powerful CPU. I want to buy one, as it would be my first Nexus product. Some cool titles I would want to see runnig: MC5, GT racing as Asphalt 8 I've seen, and Need For Speed Most Wanted.
As a regard to emulators, It has 8gb of storage, good luck!

Yeah, definitely. It outscores the GeForce ULP in the Tegra 3 by 2x-10x depending on the benchmark, and specifically handles the higher resolution (like the 1080p at which these devices tend to run) much better. Given the fact that even the Ouya was able to emulate up through the N64 reasonably well I think that the Nexus Player will make a great emulation device.

Oh man, thanks for the reply. I was looking to emulate PSP games more than anything but I guess up to N64 and maybe Dreamcast is fine as well.
I use my N64 and SNES emulators and they work great!! It runs better than my Xbox one which sucks at most things.
Here are some pictures of it on my TV using Super GNES and Mupen64
The pictures I took aren't the best but it runs great. You can map the buttons on the gamepad however you want which makes it great and my wife loves it

how many controllers does the adapter support at one time?
I'm using the PCE.emu and Neo.emu and they work fine. Only thing that makes me crazy is that sideloaded apps are too large for the TV display, some menu options are difficult to read. Does anybody know if there is a way to adjust the resolution for sideloaded apps so they fit the TV screen properly?

The listing on Amazon says that it supports up to 4 controllers with the 'direct input' mode, however I tried using the direct input mode and it seemed to not want to use the d pad and all of the buttons performed the same action. Using 'xinput' (I think this just emulates the Xbox controller input) everything mapped perfectly and all was well, the bad news is that it can only do 1 controller at a time using this method, so you'd need 1 usb adapter per controller. Also I have only 1 Wii U Pro controller so I don't have any way to test if multiple controllers even work with the direct input mode, it's worked perfectly with 'xinput' so I haven't moved it from there.
Its hard to see there but on the side there's a toggle switch that lets you pick between 'dinput' and 'xinput'.
How does one install the emulator? Do I need to do this over adb ? If so, how can I download an apk from the play store?
I can't get Super GNES to work. I install it and it says there is a new version on the play store and for me to download it. Well I downloaded it from the play store so I don't see how its not the newest version. Where are you getting your version of Super GNES?

If the app you want to "sideload" is in the normal Play store, all you have to do is load up the Play store on your computer then click install and select your Nexus Player as the device. That simple. You'll also want to install Chainfire's Sideload Launcher app from the Play store as well, as that makes accessing non-android tv optimized apps easier:

If you have an apk you'd rather install manually, you'll have to use adb and an a cable or use ES File Explorer (or equivalent) to transfer the apk from your computer/etc over wifi. There are already a few topics in these threads that discuss how.

I got the same error with the (non-free) non-lite version of GNES. Tried the (free) lite version and that works fine (version 1.5.4). I'm not too experienced with sideloading, but perhaps the non-free nature of the full version of SuperGNES is the issue? The free version sucks though, since you can't load saved states, so it seems I can't continue my progress even though the ROM in question has save functionality.
Just wanted to share my experiences so far, since this is one of the bigger reasons I bought the NP. I've managed to load NES.emu, 2600.emu, MAME4Droid (0.37b5), and Mupen64 AE so far.
Installing apps:
Like many have suggested, I was able to load a couple of apps like ES Explorer and NES.emu through the Google Play web site and selecting the NP as the installation target. However, MAME and a couple of other apps would not install this way, so I have to sideload Aptoide and use that to install the remaining apps. Note that since no web browser is available, I had to use another tablet to identify the stores where apps could be found, and add them manually before selecting apps and installing them.
Navigation:
For the most part, the remote suffices, but it's not perfect. I installed ChainFire's Sideload Launcher, as only NES.emu shows up in my apps menu on the home screen. However, I happened to own a Nyko Playpad (not the Pro) from a while ago that I never really used. While I can't recommend it as a great gaming controller, it does have one key feature that turns it from run-of-the-mill control pad to ultimate NP utility. It contains a switch that allows you to switch between HID, iCade, Mouse, and App modes. It's the Mouse setting that makes this controller truly useful, because without it, I couldn't navigate around MAME to set up my control pad, or navigate around Mupen64 to quit out of a game (how else are people achieving this? Just quitting out?) Basically, to really set up many of the emus properly, you need some kind of mouse input, so it's nice that I can switch the Playpad back and forth between HID and Mouse modes as needed.
Performance:
Obviously, NES.emu and 2600.emu are not really demanding, so they work "flawlessly" (as in, any problems are due to the emulators, not the NP.) I also chose the smaller MAME, and nothing in there really pushes the system too hard. Street Fighter II Turbo ran as fast as expected. The only really challenge to the system was Mupen64. I'm happy to say that it ran everything that it was capable of running at full frame rate, and the only hiccups were related to the emulator itself. It successfully ran Super Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Star Fox 64, and Mischief Makers. It could not Blast Corps or Bomberman 64.
All in all, I can say that things work well, provided you have the right equipment. For me, the mode switch feature of the Nyko Playpad is indispensable, although if you have a bluetooth enabled mouse device, that will suffice. Things can only get better. I haven't tried PPSSPP yet, but that will be my next test.
Thank you so much sjj.

Fire Tv - Ultimate Nintendo 64 System (N64)

Nintendo 64 Games play fluidly on the Fire TV with no lag or arteffect if you are hard-core Nintendo fan in general you will be amazed with the experience that's emulator offers.
I think my next step is to use the Wii mote wirelessly to get full Nintendo experience :fingers-crossed:
Here is the video how to, Peace:

Just one question, got it all to work, but how did you get the on screen cursor? I really wanna go to the profiles tab and can't seem to get there with the controller/remote ...
I'm glad that it is working, for my understanding you are trying to use your Amazon controller or a remotes to move the cursor ( for me I was using my wireless Microsoft 800 keyboard and mouse but you can use any keyboard or mouse ) I think it's a very good question the possible to use Amazon controller to control the mouse cursor. I have to do some research to see how it can be accomplished.
multiplayer?

I play N64 often on my gen 2 fire stick. Some lag on heavy games like golden eye, but haven't found any to be unplayable yet. I use a wired xbox 360 controller for player 1 and 2. that's all I had laying around so couldn't test 3 and 4
yeah , I can inally play some old n64 games again. goot times........
u can play a lot more like SNES. I played through Earthbound with the Amazon remote.
