[Q] [NOT FIXED- GS4 Lots of issues with radio signal and calls!!!! PLEASE HELP ME!

Hi guys, first of all let me share al my specs in order to place my question properly:
PHONE MODEL: Galaxy S4 SGH-I337M (the original stock kernel was: Build Date: 30.05.2013 -> Region: TCE (Mexico) PDA: I337MUMUAMDL Changelist: 518267 Android: 4.2.2)
Actual Rom: CyanogenMod -version: 10.2 10.2-20130923-nightly -jftlecan
Compilation number: cm_jfltecan-userdebug 4.3 JLS36G eng.jenkins.20130923.022829 test-keys
Recovery Mode: CWM via Rom Manager Pro app
So saying that I will say this: I came from stock to CM wiping Factory Reset and data/cache only and I used Odin for rootint the device....no problems at all, runs like a charm...
MY ISSUE #1: A couple of auto-updates ago (via Rom Manager), I start to notice that the radio bars (telephony signal, mobile internet signal bars) were from 1 to 2 bars in places I always get full bars (I live on a 7th floor with excelent signal at Mexico City). I searched on the forums (XDA developers and here) and it seems that ROOTED DEVICES SHOW THE REAL SIGNAL PROVIDED BY THE CAREER---->can someone confirm this? Is my phone showing the real signal strenght?, eventhough, keep reading to see that low signal bars are only the beginning...
So as i said, I didnt worry pretty much, because if the bars are little low, but i have a good quality service, who cares? but the REAL PROBLEM appears when another update came and when Im trying to use my mobile internet (4g or 3G, doesnt matter) the signal cuts exactly at the moment of loading a page or any info....it as happened with almost all apps (specially Facebook, Waze and Google Maps)
It happens as follows:
1.- Open any app, like Dolphin browser or Firefox
2.- Page starts to load info (LTE showing download and upload state)
3.- LTE-3G or whatever, shuts down (I see only the telephony signal bars and there is no internet signal)
4.- Wait few seconds, LTE-3G whatever is back...have to try again and agin until LTE remains steady (sometimes it wont until I reboot)
ISUE #2- DURING CALLS:
- Sometimes people cant hear me, but I can hear them...restart the phone and the issue fixes it self...buts is very annoying to restart my phone every single time somebody calls me and they cant hear me
I dont know what to do guys? Shall I wait until final CM10.2 comes to light? Somebody has this bug also? Is this bug part of CM? or there is another app making this rare behaivour...(do you recommend me another ROM for this model of GS4??)
EDIT: I tried to flash the original modem.bin (via ODIN) which is used by my carreer (TELCEL, son of Slim AKA "The richest man on Babylon :silly: is the company´s name). So until now, I can tell that in my first attempts of opening pages or facebook, the randomly LTE turning off-on continues...I will keep testing with this "orginal" flashed modem....

It's defiinitely a modem issue. You can flash new modems and try. (backup efs before doing so, actually if you dont already have one - do it before now and save yourself some grief)
If that's not fixing the issues...
I'd backup what you need and start fresh. It would be the easiest way to resolve all your issues. Maybe even try a different kernel set for your region and phone.
Kies has a useful firmware recovery option that sets you back to stock.
The Kies will use your model number and serial to get you your stock firmware and reset you back. Id wipe all data under settings then do it. After its done, do another factory reset in recovery.

Thanks for that advice, i guess Im going to do all that if a new kernel doesnt fix the issue (I havent found any kernel for my region which supports Android 4.3, only 4.2.2, and someone told me is not correct to install such a kernel). Good day to you!

So after done all the "back to stock" steps, I still get this questions:
1.- Would I still be ROOT but with stock firmware (Touchwiz) and cool features originally made for Samsung GS4? (such as air gestures, etc etc)
2.- If im "unrooted" by the steps described in your link, can I upgrade to 4.3???

Check out GoldenEye ROM or MDOB ROM in the development forum. They are extremely stable, super fast, tw and excellent battery life. CM is awesome, but is seriously way to flawed for our S4's right now to use for day to day life.

Thanks. I successfully installed stock Rom (Touch Wiz) and the signal has been impecable (full vars and excellent internet speed). I have to say that stock Rom is faster than CM in its current state I'm having a better experience right now ( and didn't had the time to explore all the Samsung apps in their depth) thanks again for your kind help!!!

Same as you... LTe and 3G are still having disconnections every time the screen is loading some page (facebook, explorer, playstore... you name it!!) Dont know what to do
I can still try to flash the original modem... Or is there some way to know if our modems are up to date or not??? Heeeeeeeelp!!!!!!

You're having that issue on either GoldenEye or MDOB or factory?

Man, I decided to return to full stock rom...LTE in perfect shape now...dont know what happened...i flashed with odin the exact version indicated in forums for making only the root without the custom rom or recovery...even that soft rooting is making my modem going crazy...i prefer stay this way until someone releases a decent full version for a GS4 SGH-I337m thanks guys

Did you try one of iB4STiD's ROMs? They work perfectly. CM is just way to full of bugs.

How did you go mine still up the creek I have tried everything possible that I have been advised thanks to a kind senior member I am writing down all the evil things I did to my device to hopefully be able to fix whatever I did because no amount of flashing using ODIN or KIES reset works there seems to be something missing from my fone I just wish I knew I started disliking it

Well I just went back to original stock firm ware via Kies, and now the radio signal issues are gone!! CM 10.2 didn't work well for me as the stock rom is now working in my phone. Something tells me that some times it's better to just rooting (for enjoying cool apps as Greenify) and not installing custom Roms (because all this kernel carnival is just to much, and appart of all we have to install radio firmware? Just no!)

Dialer cut off
Has anyone experienced this problem, where the dialer is cut off in the status bar?

Does this rom have red underlining of spelling errors? How quick and accurate is gps lock?

Yes this is well known by the dev. It's just a small problem from aosp code in the rom.
Here's from the new test build. Not all aosp code in yet but it's not like that in nc4 test build1.

I thought I would give an update to my post in the main thread asking for some guidance. As I was on NC2 kernel/build# (even though nc4 baseband due to previously trying all of them hoping for better reception and selling on nc4), I decided I didn't need to flash anything prior to flashing Eclipse 2.01-kitkat, and I also decided safestrap 3.72 was fine, mainly because I couldn't find anyone saying which beta of 3.75 was the right one to use, and I knew others had flashed earlier versions of eclipse on 3.72 successfully.
So anyway, I factory reset from SS, flashed eclipse, factory reset again, and everything worked perfectly. Due to holidays I got very little time to mess with it but it never had any crashes with light routine use. Then I got the dark gapps from play store and flashed those. That's when it got buggy. I was flashing on top of "normal" gapps which was probably the problem. But basically none of them worked at all. I restored the normal ones from titanium backup just to limp through the day with a functioning phone but now I want to do it right.
So I've paid for the dark gapps and SE gadgets in the store. I'm ready to start from scratch. Should I flash the dark gapps immediately after flashing the eclipse rom and then get gadgets again? This is still for the latest stable build not the test builds some of you are discussing. My phone status attached
I'll write up a little step by step guide once I get it working because I feel it's the only thing missing... the rom itself is a godsend for delivering us from touch wiz!

I have noticed on build 6 if I have an email notification and I pull it down and try to open it from the lock screen then email app will fc. As soon as I unlock the lock screen the notification comes back. I have no pin or pattern, etc, just the regular..

Anyone else experiencing a heavy battery drain? I had fantastic battery life on 2.01 with the NC2 kernal/radio, but now I am getting a massive drain on 'Cell Standby' and 'Device Idle'. Battery drained 25% in only 2.5 hours, with little to no screen on time.
I'm assuming this is related to the Unity NC4 Radio / NC2 Kernel update I flashed via Odin prior to installing Eclipse 2.1?

Everything works perfect except the lollipop email. Everytime I enter my credentials, it force closes and the app no longer opens. Is there a fix or is it something I'm doing wrong???

Second, I have a question. I flashed this on the ATT (N900A) variant, and there has only been one issue. Incoming calls do not show contact names, instead they show the phone number. Is there any way to fix this? Thanks a million.
Edit: Actually it isn't just the dialer/phone app. Other apps are having trouble reaching contact data as well. Hmm.

can't use OTG cable
I'm running Eclipse rom v 2.2 on my SM-N900V, Android 4.4.2, NC2 build.
Whenever I plug in an OTG cable with a flash drive, Eclipse reboots. It's a 32gb flash drive, formatted NTFS, and I'm mounting it with Paragon NTFS and Total Commander. I've tried an exFAT drive and it didn't work either.
It's really frustrating, does anyone have any advice?

Slow Data (for a single app?)
Installed this Rom last night. LOVE IT. It's by far the best I've tried on my phone. I'm having one problem, though. I play a game called "Ingress" (not sure if anyone is familiar with it or not) which uses GPS heavily. This is the one app that is having problems on my phone since I put this ROM on here. The GPS portion seems to work just fine, but it appears that the data connection for this app is EXTREMELY slow. (Even on Wifi, I get the same results.)
I'm getting great latency and speeds over my mobile network, so I know that the phone itself is working properly. But, it seems that the sending and receiving for data within this one app is hampered greatly. I know that there isn't probably much I can do, but I was curious if anyone out there used this same combo of Rom & Ingress and if they had any of the same issues?

There has been recent talk of Verizon rolling out lollipop for the Note 3 in upcoming weeks/months (it's Verizon, who knows), will you continue work with this ROM on lollipop or is this not going passed 4.4.2?

I have experience this thing with every the AOSP lollipop builds i have tried till date.

What VZW baseband does this ROM work with?

Been having problems with skype, viber and such apps on both CM12 unofficial and PA on my d802. would appreciate if it was listed as a known problem if its happening to other dudes.

On the latest LS980 build, I can't seem to access APN settings. And I also get 3G but no LTE. Any advice?

If we're using a bumped kernel and recovery can we use this with KitKat boot loader or do we still need to use jelly bean boot loader unless the ROM is bumped as well?

Just using this for 1 hour ...wiped everything before install...installed 4 times to be sure.this rom is lagging a lot and force closing some apps...i was using cm 12 04/12 with no problem ...installed this cause of 5.0.1 update ...i ll try it a little more and see if the problem is fixed.

Unfortunately you need to use the jb bootloader.

What device are you using and what bootloader and baseband?

How can we get the battery charging led turned off? It's really annoying at night when using the phone while charging. Or is that not possible yet? I tried doing it through an app like light flow and another one called led control but it didn't do anything so I don't think they work on lollipop yet.
So anyway to shut it off through ROM or not yet?

Just for giggles I updated my TWRP to 2.8.1.9, flashed D802 2014-12-08 build and gapps and supersu, all in one strike.
-Works well! Recent Apps-list now functioning and all is HappyPuppy.

Very low audio output to car
I first noticed this issue with cm12, and now still occurs here on PA.
With my volumes maxed on both my stereo and phone, it is still fairly quiet. I have tried multiple different volume boosters, zips, and nothing fixes it. On CM12, it was working amazing for a day then just stopped again, and i have no idea why lol.
It may be a general lolipop issue, but ive been googling for days on this and im stumped.

Is anyone else having an issue with overheating when SuperSU is flashed? I'm on D800 and have tried several modems and only seem to have the problem when rooted.

i get sgh-i337m canadian with bell and it's working fine for me
You need to change device name in updater-script
after i have dirty flash for testing over original rom rooted and it worked fine
now i have wipe all and reinstall correctly all is working also my apn was correct

FullWipe, Flash Rom, Flash GAPPS and Reboot... worked for me.

Flashed to this rom and titanium backup says I don't have root access anymore. What did I miss?

You have to enable root access first. It's not enabled out of the box.
Navigate to "about phone" in settings and tap the build number a bunch of times util it says that you have enabled "developer options" then back out of "about phone" and goto "developer options", scroll down to "root access" and enable.

How to make cm12 jflteatt work on jfltecan
Hello, for some reason I am unable to get the rom to install via twrp. I have changed the device name in the updater script but still no luck. Any help? I've seen a lot of people doing the same thing and it worked for them.

Other people have posted this in the main thread but I'm getting signal drops with the 2/18 build using a clean flash on jflteatt. Switching the APN doesn't seem to help at all. Only happens a couple times a day. Other than that it seems to be working great!

Not sure if you found a solution yet--but try deleting all the APNs except for ATT phone and ATT lte. Then reboot. Select LTE (recommended) if not defaulted to already. And you should have improved signal after that.

I've never ran cm on my s4. I've run stock based, and GPE based. So this will most likely sound newb, even though I'm not : do I need to run loki-doki or any other type of Loki script after flashing cm, and before rebooting the phone?

No, that is automatic as long as your phone meets the bootloader requirements mentioned in the OP.

Help! NO Access to USB settings after Flash
I just Flashed 5.0.2 CM12 to my S4 i337m and I no longer can get access to my USB settings (*#0808 doesn't do anything) so the AWS enable I did yesterday is now gone and I can't get into the menu to try and do it again, Please can someone point me in the right direction! I was supposed to sign up with a new provider (Eastlink) tomorrow but I can't do it if I can re-enable AWS 1700 band. Thank you!

Hi. I recently flashed my Samsung S4 to Cyanogenmod 12.1 using 12.1-20150426-NIGHTLY-jfltexx. Although it is working fine overall, I am having trouble maintaining Bluetooth connectivity. After reboot, the connectivity is ok for about an hour and then drops. And when it drops, it doesn't turn back on again.
Is there any way to fix this problem?
Also, is there a newer update that is compatible with SGH-i337m? I have received the latest updates of nightlies on my phone, but when I go to install them, the installation aborts.

Lose SD Card functionality with 5.1
I flashed the 12.1 05062015 nightly and have been experiencing intermittent access problems with my SD Card (external 64MB). Checking Storage, the SD Card sometimes disappears but the menu still shows an Unmount SD Card option, suggesting that the OS knows the card is in place. And sometimes unmounting followed by mounting brings the SD Card back to life. Other times, however, unmounting does nothing and a restart is required to enable functionality.
I also tried to move some apps from the phone to the sd card in Apps and while these moves appeared successful (i.e., the button for "move to phone" was highlighted and the move to sd card not highlighted), Root Explorer now cannot locate them and the moved apps no longer appear in the Apps listing.
The SD Card worked perfectly with KitKat so I don't believe the sd card is the issue. A Google search shows numerous concerns involving Lollipop and sd cards but none of the solutions have worked.
Wondered if anyone else with an AT&T Galaxy S4 has had this problem and if there is a solution you can point me to.

Data usage date range?

My data usage setting date range is gone for sim/carrier. It only allows me to select a single day in the next month and always reports no data used. The similar setting for wifi data usage still shows a month long period and keeps track. Any ideas what I messed up?

Need more details.. Are you using a custom rom? Xposed Framework or Wanam? Is your phone stock? Have you recently flashed anything? What carrier do you have? This info will help us to better troubleshoot the problem.

Looks to just be an issue with the Rom itself. See if there are any updates available to the rom and if not I would suggest using another rom if you need to restrict your data usage for the month. Wish I could help a little more but that's a rom issue. Nothing you actually did yourself. Or if possible, go to the forum for that rom and post the issue for the developer of that rom to see and I'm sure they'll provide you with a fix.

You could do that too lol I just thought you wanted to use the stock feature built into the rom but they all work the same. Glad you found a fix
