Bummer...No Carrier-owned pre order yet - Nexus 6 General

Amaze how quickly went fast on Google Play Store, but upset that Google let the carriers control their own pre orders.

The carriers probably prefer to have their act together before they open pre-orders
---------- Post added at 01:17 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:17 PM ----------
I agree it stinks but it should go a lot smother

very annoying, there were some rumors on AT&T pre-ordering today but I guess not

I work for AT&T and I feel upset....
And before you ask, NO, AT&T controls every information flow and like 85% of employees knows what is happening with the company after the company make it official like plans, device, etc.
So even I don't know when AT&T will began preorders.

I knew I was going to be asked anyways, so I went ahead with some of my friend at Business Solution (I am a Customer Care Rep) and Business Solution as part of selling to companies, they sometimes have from a week to a week and a half in advance to know before hand what device will be launching next and currently.....No further details.... -_-

I work for Sprint and our inside employee Playbook comes out today (which is the document that's always leaked with Sprint showing the new stuff) so I'm gonna be checking that tonight when it comes out to see if it has any news....
I sure hope it has a release date I can't wait any longer...

So far only T-Mobile has said what they're doing and that's no pre-order at all with the phone coming out on November 12th. Verizon hasn't even put up a registration page on their site.

I do think it's odd that they'd be releasing on the 12th when Google doesn't ship til the 21st. Typo maybe?

I don't think so, they announced that date two weeks ago and haven't changed it.

Checked today's Sprint Playbook. Not one word about the Nexus 6 in the entire thing. I'm really disappointed. All they taljed about is the stupid Sprint Leasing and the even more stupid Galaxy Gear S.
Maybe there will be some kind of announcement on the Sprint Newsroom website or in next Wednesdays Playbook buy I'm tired of being in the dark on this....

I'm gonna laugh my butt off if I get to walk into a retail carrier store and pick up a N6 fully unlocked for zero down and low monthly zero interest payments, and get it before the Play Store pre-orders even get shipped out.....

This. I work for ATT as well and ONCE ATT RELEASES A PRESS ANNOUNCEMENT, we get that about the same time.

After an online chat with AT&T sales Representative, I was told that tomorrow (Halloween) details will be released regarding launch on AT&T.

I pay the same price for my device on VZW Edge as you would pay buying it out right. Zero interest. The payment gets zeroed out each month by the bill credit for the 10gb More Everything plan I have too..... so I pay the retail tax and then 24 months later I own the device outright.

But 24 months is a long time to wait to own the device. I guess it's a preference thing but I'd rather buy it outright and own it right away instead of monthly payments.

You don't have to wait 24 months to upgrade. It was 12 months you could trade it in for whatever was new. Now it's 18 months. But that assumes you make the minimum payments. You can pay as much as often as you want.
I dont want to own any device I've had after 2 years lol

NEW contract, being the key phrase. Before anyone asks, no they do not do upgrades for Sprint. Amazon has some deal with Sprint where they cannot handle upgrades at this time. At least this is what I have read numerous times.
They still charge the $36 activation fee.
Soo... Do you think "New" contract include converting a single line to a family line and adding Epic's as the add-a-lines?
I don't see how to contact Amazon wireless for doing these kind of family plan changes with adding lines.
Yeah man but if your at the end of your service contract it works to, also alot of us that are getting the epic 4g are switching from carriers like verizon for it, anyway the cheapest it's been is $250 so atleast credit it me with the find man don't knock it, this is useful to some people,

I have also read they do not handle family plans. Strictly new personal accounts. Perhaps someone else has first hand knowledge.
Again, I read they are only like this with Sprint accounts.

laugh out Loud Kind Sir, The update to said gentlema's post regarding the availability of The Epic 4G through amazon.com transcended naught but an evening before my original post. I Have no petty concerns for being the first at anything with regards to the internet; I only aspired to save coin from my fellow man's purse.
plus one collegiate points for the attempted correction please, minus the 5 i have to award to you for quoting an Epic movie leaves me at negative four =( yes the pun was slightly intended when i said Epic but only to the extent that would allow me to say no pun intended. good day Sir!
Just so everyone knows, right now amazon.com is showing as "Usually ships within 2 - 3 weeks." for me. Not sure why it suddenly jumped such a huge amount, it might be some amazon.com safe estimate thing, but it definitely has me worried that this phone will sell out. However they are offering it for a killer price.
it now says ships in 2-3 weeks!!!!!
im sorry, id much rather get it on launch from sprint for 350, and then get my $100 back 4 weeks later when you are just unboxing your phone
hmm should I go this route? no taxes ( about a $60 dollar savings here in Los Angeles ) plus I get $40 cash back if I use my amazon card. so thats a $150 savings..aside the instant rebate.
edit: its a no brainer. I just placed the order Im saving a good amount for the wait. est ship is September 14, 2010 - September 21, 2010.
So I guess the dates aren't arbitrary or random. Great to know that it's first come, first serve. I ordered mines yesterday morning and ship dates show sept 8-9.
Come the 31-1st if it doesn't ship and if I can happen to get one else where, I'll probably cancel. But deal was too good to pass up, so I had to get my place in line. I too hope it doesn't sell out, but as long as I can cancel before it actually ships, no biggie.
I like to look at it as insurance, if I happen to not be able to get it else where, at the very least I know I got a chance getting it on that date (so I hope).
I had the evo by the way.. returned it, but once it was sold out, it was sold out. So I'm making sure I get my epic before they go as well.

I just did this as a back up as well, but with the cost savings I might just stick with the Amazon order.
Do you know if we have to pay the activation fee when signing up through Amazon?
And if so, are we able to get it waived by using the AAA discount by calling sprint?
Edit: Looks like Amazon does charge the activation fee, bummer. But I have heard of people calling after activation to have work discounts or AAA discounts added and Sprint refunding the activation fee.

[UPDATE] Sprint Waiving Mail in Rebates???? Not for long

Sounds like this may only last until April 16th. O well.
http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/03/25/sprint-announces-mail-in-rebates-coming-to-an-end-on-march-27/
A friend of mine bought his last Friday at Sprint, sans-rebate. He went in there and told the rep he'd just go to Best Buy. The rep waived the mail in and threw in a pouch.
When the phone first came out and supplies were limited they stuck to their guns... but now that the phone is everywhere, I think they're feeling the hurt a little from losing to BB/Radioshack.
Yeah, Sprint is testing out in-store instant rebates instead of mail in starting next week. I've heard it from a couple of Sprint store employees in different areas. There's no information yet on how long the "testing" will go or if it might become permanent. It's certainly a great idea on their part.
We signed up for Sprint around the beginning of February, I sent in my rebate forms about the beginning of March (because I changed from Epic to EVO, so I had to wait to send the forms with receipts in). On the 14th they sent me an email saying that they received it.
I checked the link today to check the status on it (https://www.sprintrebates.com/) and It says that it's been approved, in the final stages of processing, and that my check should be mailed to me within 30 days.
I would have gone to Best Buy had I known better, c'est la vie.
If anyone plans on upgrading until then, I guess its worth it.

It's just alot more convenient. I upgraded a few weeks ago and i have to wait for my rebate to come in the mail. In the mean time i have an extra $100.00 i have to pay on my bill, along with the new phone.
This was tested in austin texas and columbus ohio and we saw an average 30% growth in month over month sales. It will be here until the 16th of april and determined after that if it will be made permanent.

My understanding is that the margins on the devices are razor thin and the carriers really could care less who sells you the device retail. They make all their profits on the service. So I doubt losing retail device sales to Best Buy is their motive for this.
But then again I don't own a sprint store so I have no idea how accurate that is.
Either way it seems like Sprint is making some nice, aggressive moves to sign up new customers.

Sprint offering early upgrades to some customers

Itching for a new Sprint handset, but your upgrade date is still a ways off? You might be in luck, as a newly-leaked Sprint document has shown that the carrier is offering some customers an early upgrade. According to the doc sent to SprintFeed, there's a silent promotion running now through December 31st that'll allow some Premier customers to upgrade early to any CDMA handset in the Now Network's lineup, including the iPhone. The deal is said to be only available at corporate-owned stores, and before earning the upgrade you'll need to have your account reviewed by a sales representative for specific promo codes.
Sounds like a pretty good deal to me, especially considering that Sprint Premier is going the way of the dinosaur and most of the benefits of program are ending once the year is up. If you'd like to see if you're eligible for an early upgrade, mosey on down to your local (corporate!) Sprint store and ask your friendly rep to look into the promo. Just don't forget to come back and let us know how it went when you're done, k?

Unless they want to get you into a new phone now, then you'll have to pay more for the new phone that comes out next year that you should have waited for, but can't pass up. Sprint knows how your mind works.

Not totally true. I went to the Sprint Store today. I have 3 lines on my plan. Two of them are due to upgrade in March. The 3rd line is due in October 2012. They offered me an upgrade on the Oct. phone because it is the primary line. Don't know if I will cash in, but the offer seems legit. I have been a customer for over 10 years. Maybe that is a reason.

Not true! I'm on a family plan with 4 other phones and I was able to upgrade my dad's phone today even though his upgrade isnt coming until next august. They gave us the early upgrade because we are premier members and he is the primary line. The sprint rep told me they just heard about the deal yesterday, and it does indeed go until the 31st.
I can confirm this is real. But the stores i called and went to are all asking for you to either upgrade your plan or buy accessories to do it.
Anyone else running into this?

Well got some crazy news!!!! i took advantage of the early upgrade and found a store that did not make me upgrade my plan or buy accessories. I think its a store by store discretion type deal with making customers buy accessories and upgrade plans. Also they bought 2 of my evo's for $100 each and all rebates were instant for the phones i got. Sooo i spent A little under $300 and got a 16g iphone 4s for my girl and got the epic touch for me. All and all a great deal and i'm very happy with my new phone
But i'm a little sad to be leaving the evo 4g section of XDA. Gonna take a break from rooting and enjoy stock for a min then be back flashing and learning the epic touch!! Good bye all my evo compadres

Sprint offered to cancel the pre-order rather than issue a credit. I ended up letting the order process. Wasn't sure I could stay on the same plan via WireFly. We're on a better plan than they have listed.
Side note... The agent in sales support insisted that the phone would ship in a couple of days. I ended up talking to a supervisor who agreed that probably wasn't the case but indicated it would likely ship and be received prior to the official launch on the 18th. Not sure that I'm all that confident in that statement either. We'll wait and see.

I ended up sticking with it, since I had no choice. And I prolly would have stuck with it if had an option. I have dealt with wirefly in the past, over a mail in rebate for parents. They lost the form, so i called to ask wirefly for another. Their response was no you are SOL, we can't send you another form. So there went 100$.
After that experience, I am a little more hesitant to believe anything on their site. i.e. screwing up my current plan by ordering with them.
I also get a 25% discount, so if I go to Best Buy I will lose that? I don't understand why.

Verizon Nexus 6 was "supposed" to be released today.

Spoke to a Verizon rep randomly today because I was about 10 seconds away from getting out of my EDGE plan and have a competitor buy me out of a contract. I am patient but for the love of god give me something Verizon. This is ridiculous.
Anyway, long story short I happen to get myself a fanatic today. He had a lot more information than any other rep I have spoken to and I have had my fair share of run ins with these clowns. I figured I would give some love back to my community.

Oh ok. I am about to give up on the nexus 6 with Verizon man.
If I remember correctly edge is not a contract so you don't have a termination fee, just a payment fee. And from what I heard from T-Mobile, they will only buy out your contract/pay termination fee. They will not pay your edge installment balance off. Just fyi if you did want to eventually leave Verizon while you have Edge installments.

I hear you. I got tired of waiting and purchased from Moto directly, took advantage of their no-interest payments. Sold my G3 to offset some of the costs.

That's right. What I was going to do was pay 75% of my phone off and get started in a contract so another company can buy me out that way.

That's early edge, meaning that you're recycling into another edge installment. you have to completely pay off your phone if you wanted to leave the service. it looks like what you're trying to do has a slim chance of seeing a glimmer of light lol. all in all, if you do it this way, pay the full amount of the phone you have and sell it at ebay/swappa/cl price. not sure what phone you have but i'm sure you'll be losing a few hundred bucks. sorry buddy, that's the trick of edge, they got you.

I took it for what it was........ Hopefully its true. Sorry for the poor quality, it does the trick though.

Lol at that third picture, I'm not entirely convinced you know what "off the record" means.
You can switch over to a 2 year contract. I just went through this with Verizon.

Lmaoooo... I tried to make it sound as off the record as it can possibly be. I'm sure all those conversations are monitored.

That's good to know that you can switch over. That also means you just forked over hundreds of dollars (to pay off 75% for a device) to verizon AND bought a new phone under a 2 year agreement plus activation fee. But if you started edge when it first came out, then there's no problem about that since you've been already paying that for that period of time.
Or, are you planning to switch to a different carrier for them to pay ETF?

I'm doing the 2yr contract. Getting the moto x since its free right now with the headphones. With all the fees I'm paying about 90 dollars. Than I'm going to sell them on ebay. To help with the cost of the nexus 6.
Thought I'd mention that on the official Verizon forums I found a post from mid December where a person claimed to have been told January 2nd by a support rep. That gives me hope that it truly will be released eventually.

VZ extended their exchange period for the holidays until 1/15. I GUARENTEE they won't release it during that time period. Look for it no earlier than 1/16.
I switched the family over to Verizon yesterday and ended up using a iphone 5S IMEI to get my number to activate before popping it in my CW Nexus 6. The rep that was doing the activations said that he has played with a Verizon Nexus 6 during his training. He asked me how I liked it. I did ask him when it would release and he said he wasnt sure, just that the phone was undergoing testing and should release soon.
Only gripe would be that I cant do Data while On a phone call. Was used to this when I was on AT&T and came in handy while on Conf calls and such.
