Pink spot in middle of pictures - Xperia Z3 Compact General

There is a couple threads in the Z3 section about the camera having a pink spot in the middle of pics. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2919096
http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3/general/xperia-z3-camera-purple-tint-lots-noise-t2917459
I can confirm my camera has this same spot in certain conditions. Anyone else experiencing it? It seems to be effecting a lot of z3's. Wondering if it's happening on all of the Z3 and Z3c. I'm still within my exchange period and am debating getting it exchanged. Only thing is there is no point if it's effecting all of them and risk getting a device with a different defect

They all have it, and afaik it only happens with automatic white balance. In theory, SonyMobile should be able to fix this through a software update. But the question is: will they? Some phones of other brands have had the exact same problem and some of those had it fixed with a software update.

another day a new issue with the z3's... am i right folks?

It's not a new issue by any means.
My Xperia Z2 Tablet has the exact same pink spot, by the way. It's a "normal" problem with the type of sensor that is used.

So then it's not worth getting an exchange over I guess

Indeed, the replacement would show the same pink spot anyway.

I have no problem with camera on any settings. No purple thingy.

Could you post some pictures of grey or white surfaces, with automatic white balance?
---------- Post added at 11:15 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:11 PM ----------
Also, what is your firmware version? I am wondering if it may have been fixed in any version newer than 23.0.A.2.93
---------- Post added at 11:19 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:15 PM ----------
It certainly doesn't affect all pictures, only in some specific situations with automatic white balance. Here's a picture without pinkness in the center, the grey in the center is just grey, with no pink hue.

I don't really have with grey or white surfaces but they all have auto white balance. I'm not that good at taking photos either
Maybe you guys see something I don't. I have 23.0.A.2.93.

So much for a firmware fix, haha.
In my current lighting conditions (quite low light, some warm-white energy-saving light bulb and the light from a white screen on my monitor), the spot is actually greenish/yellowish.

I'm getting the pink spot even on dark surfaces!

Haha
I don't care that much about camera anyway. It's good at taking casual pictures and that's it

This pink issue is hitting news reports on the web, which I think is a good thing. The more media attention, it may force Sony's hand to release a fix.

Vertical white lines on high iso pics?

Anyone else seeing vertical white lines on the edges of their taken pictures under bad lighting conditions? See here: https://plus.google.com/photos/1033...976&sqsi=7d2595b2-652e-4671-b2de-f28ce0793c6f

AW: Vertical white lines on high iso pics?
Yep, same here. Check the "post pictures" thread, there are plenty of these lines in night shots.
I don't have an idea how to prevent them... I'll check the android bug tracker...

done!
I made a post about this a while back. I have the same issues with the white lines. it seems only to be in low light conditions. its very annoying and hope there is a bug fix soon for it.

Good news, Google replied on the issue tracker a couple of days ago, they found a fix which will be included in a future update.

Pink gradient on screen

I'm reviewing the Galaxy S4 and have found an issue with my S4 which I'd like to confirm with other owners.
When looking at a completely white screen and especially on lower brightness settings I have a pink gradient at the bottom part of the screen. Here's a picture: http://i.imgur.com/9jhVEnr.jpg
Normally I'd just swap it, but before doing so and knowing how AMOLED screens usually have weird behaviors I'd like to see if anyone is suffering the same issue. I managed to get a screenshot of a YouTube review which seemed to show the same problem: http://i.imgur.com/DhryGwg.png
Anyone else? Is it normal?

no its not normal better to replace the handset
I got my UK vodafone S4 yesterday, and I've noticed the pink tint at the bottom of my screen as well. It's not as noticeable as the OP's, but noticeable none the less.
I let vodafone know this evening, and they'll send me out a replacement when they have stock back in; I'm happy to keep using the handset until then. If you're within your grace period from an upgrade, and have this problem, I recommend letting the provider know about it!
Again man? Same problem with the S3 really tired of samsung Amoleds problems...every single year there is some gradients, black inks and not black blacks...
Just checked and mine doesn't do it, Send it back.
Actually, after looking at it on my laptop it probably is about the same level as Spybreak's (was viewing on my S4 screen originally :laugh.
You can tell it's not a software thing, because if I move the phone with white webpage displayed into horizontal view, the pink tint is at the right side of the browser (bottom of the phone screen).
I finally replaced mine and the new one has no pink tint. So yeah, looks like its just some faulty units

Damn I have the pink tint at the bottom as well.
I bought it new, without a subscription or anything.
I hope the web-shop will replace it, without having to send it for repair. Because I don't want to wait 3 weeks
This issue plagued my S3 experience (multiple replacements with various degrees of pink and purple gradients). Based on this and other complaints I've been following, I think I may pass on this phone and pick up AMOLED once it has been further developed.
I had slight pink issue on SGS3 (screen bottom and random areas upper) but now I have gradient on top of the display and to go down the tint is dissapearing to about 1/3 of the display. But its not only the white colour which is pinkish on the top third also other colours are shifter from upper side to downside - very annoying I can see it all the time especially on low brightness...
edit: just want to upload some of the photos (only resized, untouched)
I dug up an old SIII pic (not very good, but I have better quality shots somewhere...) and it looks a bit similar to the tint issue with the S4. I wonder what causes this during the manufacturing process?
I have pink gradient at the top of my black s4 too...

shakey hands vs less Shakey hands

I've done.this so that people can understand the importance of being still!!!
I wasn't even visibly shaking either by,the way, the camera is just sensitive,... Remember this!
so here is a picture with hand movement (minimal)
and here is a picture exactly the same that I took. I tried very hard to keep still this time
both were in an unlit room this afternoon which is pretty dark, that's why I used flash too
with handshake by wezzel98765, on Flickr
with still hands whilst stood by wezzel98765, on Flickr
This truly is the reason why,so many people hate their phone picture quality I think. I could've been more still on the second picture too...
Ah, so one shouldn't shake his hands while taking a picture? Awesome... would have never guessed that one. Perhaps I should trying pouring my next drink without shaking as well.
Seriopusly though... This is not why ppl are bothered with the camera (although hey, wouldn't OIS solve this at least partially... why not add that to the camera). It's the noisiness/white balancing/auto mode. Anyway, it's all a matter of expectations and taste. Flame on
Haha
I think people are saying that their pictures aren't clear because they are moving their hands slightly
Yes the noise is a pain,in,the backside.
You could drop the ISO to 200 instead of using 500.
But you got no shake in there at 1/8s (going by the text on the box and cans ), which is good.
Do you use the dedicated camera button or touch to focus on the screen ?

z1 display replaced and it has superb blacks and viewing angles.

My brother sent me xperia z1 from canada after he broke front glass of it. I am living in Moga(punjab 142001) india. I asked a local wholesale shop for the display unit replacement. They took 2 days and arranged a whole front panel replacement for me. It costed me only INR.3500. After fixing the phone the result left me in shock . see by yourself.
Colors are any better?
Screen Replacement
i also got that too! my phone accidentally falls to the floor (with a carpet) but it hit a hard object from the floor, causing my screen unusable. after a week i drop-by to a repair shop and ask for a replacement which last about 4 hours. after some test with the screen, the viewing angles is not bad as it was before the replacement!

what about battery life with screen on ?!
if it is ips then you should see better battery life >>
That is too blue man, disturbing. I was asking about the colors on the new screen.
Came to my mind also. But it actually feels like battery life is better than before. I will post results today after using it.
Colors are bit washed out than the origional i think.. But i have galaxy s5 i campared with it maybe thats why i feel it to be washed out because s5 display is too much.
I have tried to compare new z1 display with s5. Colors are dark and poppy on s5 but image patterns and effects are more visible on z1.

Galaxy S20 has the worst AMOLED panel since the S8

I owned almost every Galaxy S device from the last 10 years but some stood out in a negative way...
The S8 had display uniformity issues and my 3rd one was kinda ok so I kept it. The S9 and S10 were flawless display wise but the S20... Oh boy.
I'm on my 4th(!) S20+ now and I guess it will be my last because I return it and keep my S10.
The display is uniform as hell. Brighter at the top, darker at the left and bottom left and when 120hz is enabled it's reddish as hell. With 60hz it's ok with higher brightness but with lower brightness it's a mess.
As seen on my pic.
I don't get it why reviewers don't talk about that.
Shame on you Samsung.
So because u have a little bit of a red tint at the lowest brightness its the worst amoled panel? I dont think anyone uses the panel like your example. I have the same problem but guess what in EVERYDAY NORMAL use i do not see it ....at all. Sure if testing for it then yea. Enjoy your s20 there worst things to cry about especially in these times.

Not just with lowest brightness. Even with low brightness and because dark mode has so much gray backgrounds it just looks bad. If it was at least the whole display but it's just the left and bottom left side of the display.
This isn't a 50€ device. I paid 900€ for it.
I haven't got any issue AT ALL with my panel. This is just isolated cases and most people don't have the problems you're showing here
However I've seen a lot of people having green tint issues with their S20
Also stating that it is the worse panel of the S branch while you just checked it on only one model...

Did you read what I wrote? I had a S2, S4, S5, S7, S8, S9, S9+, S10+ and had 4 different S20+ (3 Exynos and one Snapdragon) and every one of these 4 had these Display issues.
People like you should not get new phones you break it before time is.
I dont have any issues with the phones i have at all, and btw you are lucky it is only 900€ i pay almost twice that cause of taxes.
Lottery oled panel like it is every year. The worse oled panel goes to the OnePlus 8 pro
It is the same for me, the panels are a mess. I am on my sixth device (I never ever changed out a device, always thought people who do are nuts).
This is the sixth device. All 5 before were simply a mess. They had bad uniformity and green tints at 120Hz. It was unacceptable for 1550€ phones.
I am glad, if one does not have that or does not notice it, but it is simply there and I was not really nitpicky about it, it was instantly and clearly visible when using the devices in dark environments.
Device number 6 is made in Korea and almost flawless, uniformity wise, at an acceptable level. The 5 before were not, simply.
---------- Post added at 10:26 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:25 PM ----------
PS: S9 and S10 were flawless, even my S8 was ok. But the S20 panels are a mess from what I saw.
Just checked, but on my s20 ultra at 120hz at lowest brightness i see not change in color anywhere.
I just checked my S20 Ultra Exynos, made in Vietnam. No uneven colours or brightness at both 120Hz and 60Hz.
Good for you guys The one I am having NOW is fine as well Number 6.

LOL, the return department must love you!
I only checked them and did not remove anything - it is by law that you are allowed to check 'like in a store'.
And really, why should I put up with a defect display for 1550€ (ultra) or 1250€ (plus)? That is 1717USD...
Same here in my Exynos regular S20, not terrible but not ideal, and much more noticeable at 120hz. I think the push to 120hz has meant in some ways were worse off. Think about it, we're using first gen 120hz OLED displays instead of very mature tech in 60hz displays like the one on the S10 where more of the kinks have been ironed out.
But...I could easily be wrong also!
S20 Ultra here too, and i dont see any issues whatsoever.
And just for general information i owned a Huawei Mate 20 Pro for a brief period, with some app backgrounds, there was uniformity issues with solid colours, however i did find it was being caused by some kind of app and wasn't the actual screen. From memory after playing a YouTube video it would stuff up. You will probably find chatter about that in that forum here.
This feels like a TV forum, where they get grey cards out desperate to find faults that no human can see under normal viewing conditions, whats the point?
