Nexus 6 vs Z3 - Xperia Z3 General

Now that device comparisons are allowed on the XDA I thought I pose this question especially those who are purchasing the T-Mobile variant.
With the Z3 being released so close to the Nexus 6, besides being water resistant and camera, what advantages does the Z3 has over the Nexus 6?
My mind was set in stone on getting a Z3 but with the announcement that Wi-Fi calling will be available soon it threw a monkeywrench on my decision making. I think I'm now leaning towards getting the more popular and unlocked device.

Z3 can come with Dual Sim
Wysłane z mojego D6633 przy użyciu Tapatalka

The advantages would be, battery life, camera, sd card slot, ps4 remote play, $20 cheaper, and you can still hold the z3 in one hand.

I got the Z3 and was able to use the Nexus 6 for one day. I prefer the Z3. The N6 just feels too big, even though I have really big hands! It is waterproof and I left it for 10 minutes in the bath tub. It still works flawlessly!

Yea the Nexus 6 is gigantic for me. Plus I hate AMOLED.
I was hoping HTC would be making a 5-5.5" device for the Nexus.

The advantages I like are battery life, SD card, and size.

1) battery of dalvic on z3 is something nexus 6 will have with art
2) camera is just fabulous
3) micro SD card slot
4) (optional) dual sim
5) z3 is water proof, not water resistant like nexus 6
6) it's a phone, not a phablet
7) you can connect a ps3/4 controller and play games
8) a lot more but its not just coming to my mind for now!

Price as well? (Depending on where you are) In Canada, Rogers will apparently be selling it for $599 (locked) and Sony has it for $699 (unlocked). To get the same amount of 'total' storage space (albeit through an SD card which you apparently can't load apps onto?) you'd have to spend $800 CDN for the 64GB Nexus 6.
So for me, there is a potential $200 savings with the Z3 over the N6 (minus a maybe $30 unlocking fee) if I get it from Rogers.
If the Nexus 6 was $200 less, than I think I would go with it but $800 is just too much for me.
Too bad though that you can't get the 32GB Z3 in Canada...

You can buy a T-mobile one and unlock it. Should run fine on WIND last I checked... and maybe Rogers.

Unfortunately, the exchange rate right now sort of kills that option. $630 USD from T-Mobile (at least that's the price on their web site) works out to $725 CDN. I don't think I'd want to spend $125 more for 16GB of internal storage.
Too bad our dollar isn't at par anymore...

Price wasn't announced when I pre-ordered my Z3. I have the T-Mo version, which is almost the same as the Nexus so it wouldn't have been an issue.

The T-Mo version has 32GB of internal storage.

Price was announced, I believe 1 or 2 days before preorder date on their news site.
I think he meant he did not want to pay that much just for an extra 16GB.

Official prices from Samsung Spain are frightening! € 1049 for a 128gb Edge! I do like the green though. Unusual colour.

PS Also showing on Amazon.es at the same price.
On the Samsung UK website the edge only comes in 64gb and 128gb versions so it's probably going to be £649 for the 64gb version.

Now I'm a big phone geek, but i couldn't justify £684 on a phone. I wonder if this high price point is going to hold back the popularity of this phone. It, any any other phone is just not worth that kind of money.

Oh absolutely. If they are trying to get an extremely premium price for it, Apple could swoop in and drop the price of the iPhone 6 to draw people away. I really want the edge but I'm having a hard time justifying that much of a price jump over the standard S6.

Sorry, I was speaking of the S6 in general. While the edge is awesome, the novelty isn't worth $150 extra over a standard S6.. (If the pricing howipig posted is correct) but maybe that's just me. I REALLY want one but anything over $75-100 USD more than the standard S6 isn't worth it.
If they do it like they did the note Edge
Regular 32gb S6 will be about $699
S6 Edge 32gb will be about $799
Which are the first 20 or more countries that will be getting the Galaxy S6 Edge is what i am looking for
Mobile fun has the prices up already. There very costly and as much as I want one its not going to be an immediate purchase. 500 quid seems an acceptable amount for a phone, once you go past that it's getting a little silly.
Sure I have a note 4 but I got it on contract so I didn't really notice I paid for it.
Apple never lowers their prices even when the new model is due in a couple of weeks. Yet you see the retailers selling them at a discount because they have to meet sales numbers to Apple as part of their contract. The Carriers can lower the on contract price for the phones 4-6 months out and then again when we draw closer to a new model to clear inventory.
My only question is what are the capacities the US Carriers are going to offer, I want 128GB Edge, color is negotiable.
I have the t mobile jump plan, so I'm my phone bill will only jump up about 15 dollars more a month than it is now. Only have to pay that for a year or until I pay half the phone off then jump again next March or April. I'm probably getting the black 64 or 128 gb in black. Cheers everyone!

Nice. Not bad at all. Want the 64GB one in Gold but I'll be upgrading with EE so hopefully I can get a decent deal as I've been with them for 10 years and got a great upgrade last year. Wonder when we'll start seeing the 128gb ones.

How much would you pay for developer edition

Verizon 64gb with two batteries. New screen and fresh developers flash, new speaker. Basically new phone tempered glass installed with extra glass. Spiegen hybird case blue as well as 64gb SD card. Oh and see view folding cover.
Just trying to get an idea if I decide to sell.
Oops typo it's got 32gb internal 64 gb external. Oh and please let's not turn this into what phone ate you getting note 5 bashing thread.
I don't think a case or a screen protector really adds any value to a sale unless they are new in box. You're really only selling the phone and the extra memory is a little bonus. Who wants to use a used case or a used screen protector that has somebody else's greasy fingerprints embedded in it? Let's be honest, memory cards are cheap anyhow. That being said, it's a rarer phone that is hard to come by and you are including two batteries. If anybody is paying more than 700, They are getting ripped off. I wouldn't pay more than 600 if I were in the market for it.
Of course, if you're listing on Swappa, you have to up the price to cover the buyers fee, the shipping and the 2.9% Paypal fee. So add that to the dollar amount too. (For examples, my regular Note 4 is listed on CL for 55 bucks cheaper than it is on Swappa.)
Ok $600 for just the phone and batteries. I do have to disagree with no value for memory card. If the person doesn't have one they CERTAINLY would need to buy one. Just my thought.

True, but it's not like they are that expensive. I paid ten bucks for a 32GB Sony Class 10 Micro SDHC. I added mine in and did word it like it's a great bonus hoping that whomever buys it will agree and not just look up the price on Amazon. LOL
I wouldn't give more than 450 for a DE. I pick up perfect condition note 4's the last 2 month's for 300 and 325. As weak as verizon development is I couldn't picture 6 and 700 for a used, abused and repaired Note 4 DE... just saying even if it looks new, but have replaced speaker, and being a De, it's been worked and not been babied And I agree with the other guy, cases, screen protectors don't mean much to most. Also if you research you can pick up class 10 64gb cards for 30 to 35 bucks. Hell, I picked up a SanDisk 128gb for 80.00 a month ago.
Just my 2 cents!
Ok we got $600 or $450 without the goodies. Average $525 so far.
I'd do 450 because I'd rather have the note 4 than anything else new or old today. But it depends on the buyer, and how much they're willing to spend on a year old phone with no official support from Samsung or indie devs
I have a DE, but if mine broke, I'd honestly pay up to $800 for another one mint

If I was in the market for DE I would go as far as $600 for a mint one. Even that is a bit of a stretch for a year old phone with little support. I'm happy with the phone I currently have and have no desire to downgrade but I thought I'd throw my 2 cents in.
Unless the retail gets root the VZW will not see much dev support. The dev edition would lose it's value if the retail got root. I say it's time to sell your dev edition while it's inflated value survives. With the Nexus and LG phablets coming soon the N4 will soon be a outdated and forgotten phablet. Timing is everything.

Interesting perspective, but the value is there because it's a supported device for android 6.0 with everything you could possibly love in a phone. As long as the resale value will be above $400 for at least another year, a DE holder should still ultimately profit or at least break even by not purchasing a $600+ phone this year and seeing what the next wave brings.
You need to check out the last page of this thread.
Look at all these people trying to lowball a guy offering to sell a Note 4 DE.
Meawhile this guy threw his up on Swappa for $1100.

Buying a Turbo2 with payment plan vs. staying on-contract???

Hey all,
I find myself in an interesting situation and would love some feedback from the rest of you!
I am currently on the VZW 'Loyalty' plan: Unlimited Talk/Text +2GB for $60. I'm now up for renewal/upgrade and have been excitedly eyeing the new Turbo 2 since its release. If I go with the new M plan, and take advantage of a 10% corporate discount, it appears I'd now get Unlimited Talk/Text + 3GB for only 50 cents more. ($45-$4.50 = $40.50, plus $20 Line Access = $60.50). Not too bad in my book! 50 cents more than I currently pay and I get an extra GB of data! Add to this the $30/mo 64GB Turbo 2 on a payment plan, and I'm up to $90.50/month.
However, what I did not anticipate is that Verizon would give me the option to renew my 2-year contract and still get subsidized phone pricing on a new Turbo 2. So, if I keep my current plan, I can get a 64GB Turbo2 for $299 (about $400 after taxes, a stupid $40 "upgrade fee" and electing to go with a leather back). I would have to pay it all up front in this scenario, but it seems that this would actually save me ~$340 dollars compared to buying the phone at full retail or spread out on a payment plan.
I've been with VZW for about 9 years, and don't really have any plans of switching any time soon. They have great coverage up here in the snowy mountains of CO, so being locked in another 2-yr agreement doesn't really bother me that much. The only catch seems to be I will have to stick with 2GB/month. I'm on WiFi most of the time and have only gone over 2 or 3 times in the last year or two. With the loyalty plan, extra GBs are $10, so even if I went over every month for 24 months, I'd still be $100 under what I would've paid for the phone on a payment plan or at full retail. So the only catch isn't even that much of a catch...
Does this make sense? Am I taking crazy pills? Or have I actually found a legit way to basically get a $720 phone for almost half-price????? Would love to hear what you guys think.
Well ponder this I spent about 90 less for the 32 gig and just bought a 32 gig SD card for 10 bucks on amazon. So I would get the 32 and buy an SD card. I know what your thinking but then I only have 32 gig for apps. However android M is going to merge the phone storage and SD storage to just one giant storage. As far as which way to go buying the phone. Do you need the extra gig? If not go subsidized it's cheaper. And my 32 gig cost 256 with tax and upgrade fee.

Thanks man. I must've been pondering what you were pondering too (taking over the world??). 90s-cartoon references aside, I definitely am considering the 32GB version. I'm not too app-crazy; 2 years in, I'm just now getting close to filling up my 32GB Moto X 1st Gen (includes 12GB of photos/music). Unfortunately, since I live kinda in the boonies and none of the Verizon 'retailers' here (no actual Verizon shops) don't have all the different backing options for me to check out, I was considering the 64GB version just so I could design refresh it halfway through if I don't like what I got. I wanna go black leather, but I really wanna see it in hand.

I went the contract renewal route because my current plan is at a price point that I could not get with anything new they offer, plus the subsidy put the phone in a price range I could afford.

IF you had the chance to switch to a different phone, which one would you choose?

My phone got wet and because of that, a half inch strip of the digitizer went bad. Squaretrade is reimbursing me for the buying price of the phone. I don't know if I should get the same phone, a Nexus 6P, or something else. All carrier unlock is important to me because I plan to switch from AT&T to Verizon. Expandable storage is pretty great but, I guess that can be accomplished with OTG. I really love the phone but isn't there something better available now with more features (IR remote, FM radio, screen projector) that's all carrier ready at around the same price?
The Verizon compatibility is the sticking point. I think the One Plus would be where I would go if I wasn't on Verizon.
I believe Team Firewater is about to release an unlock for the HTC 10. I would probably go back to HTC if I was going to switch. LG G5 is another possibility but my sons g3 just developed a sim card reading problem so I don't know how reliable they are. I also am not sure how developer friendly these phones are.

Axon 7 or Nexus 6P
I would get a temporary phone for a few weeks and then get a new Nexus. Probably sailfish (5" screen). They will be faster and better on battery.
If you're intent on getting one now, get a nexus 5X or 6P. They're going for pretty cheap right now actually.
Since AT&T -AND- Verizon and a similar price point are all requirements, your choices are pretty limited... Here would be my choices
1) Axon 7 - this is actually a really nice phone for the money, and Verizon support has been confirmed
2) Nexus 5x or 6P - The 5x has been floating around $250 for the 32GB model and the 6p around $430, so assuming your budget is $350, this is a tough one for the budget requirement
3) Moto G4 - Seriously... for $300 bucks you get 64GB storage, 4GB RAM, and an octo-core processor. Compatibility with all major US carriers
3) Moto X Pure Edition - Honestly, this is still a really good phone for the money
I ended up ordering another Moto X Pure 64GB. I thank you all for your input. I seriously considered the Nexus 6P and decided that I love my 128GB SD card too much and getting the 128GB Nexus would cost $150 more plus need to remember to keep an OTG with me at all times. Plus, I really like the phone. The Moto Z Force looks like the phone I'll want to sink some dough into later on. That with the projector option looks pretty incredible. But, it's not an all carrier phone either. Anyway, I get my new Moto X Pure this coming Wednesday from Amazon Prime for $100 less than Squaretrade paid me out. No complaints.

I think you made a good choice. My only lament about the MXPE is that it doesn't have a big battery like the Moto Turbo 2 or Maxx 2. I LOVE the big screen, I use the storage on my 64GB micro SD card constantly and the design and speed and controls locations are all perfect for me. Now, if either the Turbo 2 or Maxx 2 had unlockable bootloaders I'd give them a hard look but that seems unlikely from what I've read.

Amazon possible price mistake. $277.

I think they're dumping the phone, there's no such thing as a price mistake when the price is still roughly close minus all the incentives some companies like newegg were giving away.
Chinese companies notorious for getting rid of stock if problems happen. Because it cost more money for them to fix or support it, they rather just give cut their losses early.

Newegg was selling it for $399 + free headphones worth $99. Amazon does mark down deals to try to match those deals, I've seen it before So whether or not it's a price mistake, they're not giving it away for free.
Apparently it was just a price mistake. Amazon is honoring the price, but only one unit per person.

Why would you think THAT? Come on. Except for lack of Qi wireless charging* it's the Galaxy S7 Edge killer -- or at least very serious competitor -- and at half the price of that Samsung phone.
That price was either an Amazon bot mistake or possible scam seller, and the situation was quickly corrected.
---
* ZTE, if you had Qi wireless charging, I would be buying at least two of these phones. Put backlighting on your capacitive buttons and I would definitely be buying three.
I own three Moto XT1225 (basically the 5.2" version of the 2014 Moto Nexus 6 WHALE) -- with 1440p AMOLED, Qi wireless charging, 64GB internal storage, 3GB RAM, 3900 mAh battery, backlit capacitive buttons...
Google screwed up with the size of the Nexus 6, but the hardware specs were fantastic. Motorola then released a smaller version under the "Quark" code name and sold around the world: XT1225, XT1254, XT1250. Larger battery than the Nexus 6, but for some reason Motorola dropped the rear camera OIS and stereo speakers. But still FANTASTIC specs. 95% of Moto Nexus 6 in a reasonable size.
I bought three of the XT1225, for me, my wife, and a backup. LTE bands 2,3,4,5,7,17. Perfect AT&T phone, even if I had to import them from other countries.
