Sony Xperia Z3: pink spot in the middle of the pictures - Xperia Z3 General

Hello!
I'm the owner of a brand new Xperia Z3, which I bought in major part for the camera, but i noticed a pink spot in the middle of many picture, most of the time when i take a picture of plain white/grey/brown surfaces. It seems that i'm not alone since at least 10 other owners reported the same problem on the Xperia support forum:
http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-Z3-Z3-Dual/Pink-spot-with-xperia-z3-camera/m-p/839421#U839421
I post some pictures that I and other owners uploaded on the forum:
If you have the same issue; please go to the sony xperia support forum and make your voice heard
the adress is: http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-Z3-Z3-Dual/Pink-spot-with-xperia-z3-camera/m-p/839421#U839421
In addition, don't forget to vote for the REDDIT of this issue in order to raise awareness:
http://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/2kdwtw/sony_xperia_z3_owners_do_you_also_have_a_pink/
Thanks !

Seeing these threads makes me get tired of the Sony Xperia Z3 as a whole. Reminds me of the time of the HTC One M7. Here is another related thread on a defective camera or software processing: http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3/general/xperia-z3-camera-purple-tint-lots-noise-t2917459.

Yeah I have it too, although it doesn't seems to be as bad as yours. Maybe it's a focus thing?

Having the same issue and posted on the Sony Mobile link you added, hopefully Sony can get it fixed.
Read a lot of reports of Z3C owners having the same problems.

Wow! I'd send this phone back, it should NOT look like that

Can someone confirm that they are NOT having this problem? I want to have some hope it is a software issue, not hardware.

Mine gets the pink areas but more mild but not centered like OP. Mine is definitely not that bad.
Call your nearest TMO store and tell them to reserve a phone on release day and exchange, I am going to do that as mine has severe light leakage from the right side of the frame.

I'm not. Certainly can't recreate it on testing.

What model/firmware are you running?

color shading
It's called color shading..
you can see it in this review. Mine also has this issue indoor.
connect.dpreview.com/post/9735822205/dxomark-mobile-report-sony-xperia-z3
"On the downside, DxO says "color shading is visible in some outdoor pictures and low light conditions and strong flare is noticeable in sunny backlit outdoor scenes." "

Good thing this was brought up, I will test the new phone's camera at a TMO store before I exchange.

Are you guys having this problem with the tmobile variant of the phone? I have the international D6603 and I don't have the pink spot in the middle.

I had the same issue with my old HTC One M7, had a pinkish tint around the edge. I had to call HTC and shipped the phone to them so they can replaced the camera sensor.

Looks like OPs photos made it to Phonearena. Hope Sony is listening.

Yep mine is more like yours.

Mine has that pink spot as well, t-mobile version. I can't really notice it during videos but certain pictures you can sort of see it, this sucks.

I'm also seeing this on the Z3 compact but it doesn't seem as bad as the OP. Mine seems much worse when I snap pics of blue things. White I'll get it but not as bad as when I shoot blue.
Edit: Does anyone have one that DOESN'T do this? I'm still within my exchange period for my Z3C. Wondering if I should risk the exchange and have the same issue (if not a worse issue) on the new unit.

EDIT it looks just like this:

which was(/is?) a software issue on the HD2. So is it my ROM/kernel?

Here's the Nexus in an OFFICIAL VIDEO and you can see it from about :10 to :18.
All phones? Are you serious? http://pocketnow.com/thought/clarification-the-pink-spot-syndrome
I've actually found a lot of topics on this, some say it is a software issue, and some say it is hardware... I just wonder if everyone has it, or if I've only started my adventure of returning phones until I get one that actually WORKS. If they are all like this, I'd be disappointed, but not nearly as disappointed as if I have to "roll the dice" again and wait another 3 days and buy another Zagg screen protector.
Changing the white balance to anything but Auto seems to fix this.
Nope. My camera seems to work fine. Took multiple pictures of a white envelope and no color variation at all. Might be your camera or even the lighting conditions of that particular shot that threw it off.
What kind of lighting? It only seems to appear in dim/indoor setting.
Here are three more... all are on Auto white balance, even though the colors seem to change a lot with the light:
Some sunlight (door open, keyboard on floor) - No pink
Indoors + Flash (same place, door shut) - No pink
Indoors (same conditions, no flash) - PINK!
It isn't incapable of showing a pure white, the conditions just have to be ideal.

It's actually the Happy Hacking Pro 2.
The Nexus among many other phone had the 'pink dot' effect.
I noticed this was most common if you have Auto-White on, and quickly open the camera and snap a picture.
The red dot would come up at first when the camera was opened, but once the camera focuses, the pink dot disappears.
Its mainly has to do with the focusing of the lenses I think....

Try to change the white balance if on auto go indoor and use outdoor lighting to get more light.

Thanks dito33. Changing the white balance makes photo color looks not so natural (in my point of view). I know lighting will help, but not in indoor low-light environment. I just want my SGS2 to be my first perfect android phone. BTW, i am a bit disappointed with the Pink Spot issue on SGS2 which cost me over 500 pound, not 50 pound.
Still thinking whether looking into exchange my phone to other brand/model or just keep it.
I went looking through all my photos, and can't find that pink tint in any of them. The one thing on this camera that I find annoying is when shooting video, everything will get a green-ish hue to it for a minute, and then for no reason go back to normal.
Green:
Normal

This has been an issue since I got the phone
Also, before I make a video, I let the camera go for 20 seconds, then it'll say "recording failed", let it go for another minute or so to see if it fails again. If it doesn't, I'll then go ahead and make a video. This happens on queue every time.
A friend of mine has this exact issue on his fascinate since day one.
he's rooted, but has not tried custom roms yet.

Glass screen is not what I expected W/Pics

Not sure if its my phone and it needs to go back.
At the earpiece there is a flat spot that runs across and then another one just below it.
Seems like the process to get the curve threw them a little since its wavy all over but that is something you have to look for and can look past. The earpiece area is what I am most concerned with. Would like to know if others are seeing this.
would you be kind enough to post a picture?
Probably have to pull out the gear to do that but will be taking pics of the vibrant tomorrow so can do it then.
If you look at the speaker and then to the right and left of it there is a flat spot that runs through the glass from side to side if that makes sense.
Either way I will get pics up tomorrow.
post pic..
I don't see anything on mine.
Here are the pics.

It could be designed into the screen but there is another line under it and its not real pretty when the phone is sitting on a desk and you see that. Guess I am just used to the flat smooth screens like the other galaxy s phones.
Is it like, indented into the glass? Looks strange
Mine doesn't look like that. Mine is smooth throughout.
Ok I see it in the pics. That kinda stinks I thought Google said the design was to be the screen blending in to the phone. Bummer.
Going to the store tomorrow and checking out others. If it was a common issue I would just deal with it. Oh well.

It is. Its a flat spot and I can see why its there with the speaker hole there and the cam and prox sensors. Seems they could make a smooth transition or I got a dud.
Take it back and get a new one.
Seems like a hardware defect, I don't see that on mine.

I also noticed that on the first one I got, although not as defined. The issue I had was with the plastic ring around the screen. It was deformed in a few areas. I returned it for another one. This ones perfect. I suggest you do the same.

I have it too.. but not as bad as yours. I have to really use the glare to see it.
I have the same thing...cant notice unless it has light glare on it.
I think pics make it look worse but you can always return it.
Maybe it's flat cuz of the front camera and the light sensors.
I can't tell on mine, unless i have light reflecting on it (like in your pictures)

Thats what I am wondering. I had to use the light to get it in the pics. I deal with glass all day so see these things more then the average person. The bottom is nice and smooth . but the top is a different story. I wonder if others have this and just don't notice it. I hope not but maybe the pics will help others see what I am seeing and give a definite answer.
Either way I am going to go check out some others at BB tomorrow and will report back with what I find.
It may not be a issue at all and part of the design of the phone.
same here but i didnt notice it until you mentioned it.
No problems here on mine. Weird.

Yea i'd have to agree download a second Camera Application to see if it happens on a secondary program. That will isolate the difference between a bad camera or bad programing.
you know i didnt look and see if camera360 was doing it
my suspicions lie in the camera app getting wonky (see: using multiple programs and getting a bad driver warning...please restart)
it happens
ill check another app besides stock when it happens again

This is a common issue when taking digital pictures under florescent lights. Its due to the frequency the lights flash at.
It is a very inconsistent problem in most cases. A better way to see if there is really a problem is by taking pics in different settings and lighting conditions.

At that point your bringing a lot of noise(grain) in so the issue is amplified.
Many think mega pixels make a good camera. This can be no further from the truth. The sensor and processing is what really makes the difference provided there are good optics(lens). Something you will not see on a phone. Nokia is still the only one that has done well here.
You are going to get noise and banding with cell phone pics unless the lighting is optimal. Its a give and take that has to be dealt with. Phones have terrible lenses and cheap sensors. The two key functions to a quality photo. The only reason they look as good as they do is processing done in the built in software.
The cameras on the phones these days are doing well but will never replace your point and shoot or DSLR.

It's good that this gets more attention, but I don't hope that Sony will only look at this problem as a compression problem, because there is a lot more wrong here.
Sorry but I've had a good test of the Sony camera compared to HTC one and galaxy s3 and the xperia camera edges it barring the odd bit of over compression but I'll take it for less noise and better colour reproduction than both those phones
I believe the z has bigger fish to fry like unforgivable viewing angles, awful speaker quality, lag and ui skipping issues, over heating and odd and inconsistent battery life.
I loved this phone on face value but the more I use it the more I pick it apart
The camera is by far it's best attribute and is better than its competitors right now even if the photos are a little soft.

Viewing angles: You want to look at the phone from a 45 degree angle? For what reason? Or do you love that other people can read your text's?
Aweful speaker quality: Ok lets put a better speaker in, but remove the whole concept of the phone being water proof/resistant
Lag: Yeah lag..... where!?
ui skipping issues: ??? Examples please.
Over heating: Name 1 phone that doesn't overheat, isn't it logical that the processor becomes hot when it need to process something big?? Since our phone's are made out of glass we will notice it even more, since glass is a good heat conductor (You could/should've known that before you bought the phone)
Inconsistent battery life : Partly true, it also has to do with the apps that you run, so you can't really blame Sony for that.
ANYWAYS.....this topic is about the camera so lets leave other issues aside.
What's all this about the camera, the Zs camera is easily the best I've ever seen. Stop using reviews as a basis for a petition. Many of these sites have their own agenda. I've repeatedly heard them say the Zs camera is worse than that of the iPhone. Well they could have fooled me. That claim doesn't stand up at all. It's biased stupidity.

You should not expect the same quality pic in a macro shot than in a night shot. With other phone, in those conditions, you would get a nice black photo. In Xperia Z you get a noisy pic, but at least it's not black.
I have to agree with the issue here. Before I even looked at the Xperia subforum, after coming from an S3, I knew straight away that I couldn't take a half decent picture and after 30 or 40 shots didn't get a single image I could use.
I could get a perfect picture on my S3, default settings almost every time, and if not, certainly the second time.
Nobody can say that's placebo caused by popular belief because I never even saw the complaints until I had decided for myself the picture quality was apalling.
the camera app itself is a big problem because it was ported from x1,x2 (windows phones) and tweaked a bit. guys who have/had x1 or x2 know what im talking about
when sony finally makes new or updates camera app some problems might go away
Some camera problems are dued to picture softness. Camera360 automatically "improves" the quality with a focus filter, you should test it.

I guess that HTC went with the "if something isn't broken don't fix it" moto, cuz the only major improvement is the camera.
Another leaked video from Upleaks:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eGvnyii8xlc
I think it's a fake... Look at the M9 when the guy is taking the photo to the girl: the phone has got a thick black stripe under the screen, while the one over the screen is very thin. Now watch the rest of the video: the upper strip is bigger, while the other is thinner... Oh cm on! And sorry for my bad english
Also these advertisements are really bad made... I'm not really sure they are true!
Really hope this isn't the m9. The black bar is just awful.
ho my god
it s an M8 again :crying::crying::crying:
I really dont get why all negativity, the M8's design is great and better than the competition in every part of the build. So why would HTC Change what yes ain't broken, the Camera is meh on the M8, so its now been improved, the performance if the M8 is anything to go by will be fantastic. There will be other things I'm sure that will change that mindset.
I honestly wasn't expecting huge changes in design and that's cool with me. I would safely assume the M10 or whatever the 2016 model may be will have that change.
I'm sure you'll all be happy when you purchase
I'm a bit disappointed in HTC, banging on the internet doors that they are bringing new things to MWC, just to show us a refresh/fix of the M8 (Yeah I know they will bring more stuff).
They better be calling it the HTC one 8.5 or something, because this isn't a number change worth.
I still think the M7 is a better looking phone then the M8, just because of the radius on the corners, and because the bottom and top speaker have the same width.
what a disappointment
Its not that bad lol I didn't mind how the m8 design was.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA Free mobile app
I'm not convinced this is the final version of the m9. With the leaks in the past few years, it's possible HTC is creating their own leaks to generate buzz. Regardless, I still love my m8 and am getting the m9 when my tax money arrives.?
I agree. I'm not sure it is real. Look at the poor editing, the screen images are not correctly aligned with the phones edges. Not the professional video I'd expect from HTC.

Sorry to burst your bubble guys but shown is known to do this, they are restricted and prohibited to release or leak the actual images of the up and coming mobile phones, it would defeat the purpose if unveiling it at the MWC.
Look what they did with last year's Galaxy s5
They thru everyone off on purpose to think Samsung had finally ditched the home button....
But no..
Right after the unveiling they quickly replaced the image with the accurate one. After all, all they really need are he sizes and the shape of the device, the font doesn't matter, it could look like mickey mouse and all they talk need to do is show off the case... the front has nothing to do with the case, the front camera or speakers have nothing to do with the case.... Nothing...

Hmm.... they didn't put attention to detail in this one. Check out the differences..
Well, what might actually be the case here is the picture on the left (the camera app) is actually taking the photo, the picture on the right is viewing the photo in the gallery app so the space on the top which would be the supposed bezel would simply be extra space as the picture isn't full screen.
Take that with a grain of salt, because that whole commercial doesn't really feel that 'professionally done'. It could just be graininess but when watching the screen you can almost tell that some cgi work was done on it.
Based on the this link from amazon the black bar with the HTC logo is gone

if it is true, is a good step forward!
LOL i don't think thats the phone, and well spotted with the difference, the smile and no smile on the phone screen, fail
Get real guys that's the M9,not saying there won't be a ultra version also but that's the M9

We're talking about the photo being different. The photo they zoom in on has obviously been retouched and was not taken with the M9 straight out of the camera.
