Note 4 - Login to anything, with the Fingerprint. - T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 General

Came across a program called LastPass. Now I am able to login to literally, anything with a login screen with my fingerprints. I use it with my bank, netflix, xda, games etc. Apps got a ravin review too so that helps. Downside is, it's a 2 week trial. I thought touch-wiz would have had this ability built in. Anyway, here are the steps I took.
Before you begin, the app will ask you if you'd like to use the fingerprint function. Choose yes.
Under Preference, check off "Enable Fingerprint Repromt."
1 - Once you're on the login screen of the app / site, a small will window will appear. Click Add Login.
2 - Enter the Username and Password Information
3 - Check off the "Require Password Reprompt" Box. Then Save.
ps1 - here's a long ass video on how it's security is bascially unhackable. aes256bit stuff. too complicated for me but makes it sound extremely secure. Start at 54 mins in.
ps2 - wow, I just did some more research on this program. it's freakin amazing. I actually logged onto it using the lastpass website on my pc. Downloaded the chrome extension. Now, I just logon to sites as usual and lastpass will keep it stored. So now, whatever site I login too, lastpass will fill it out for me securely. And now that I don't have to remember the passwords, I can have different random ones for each website. There are a other options I have yet to check out but this is defintely a winner in my books.
.

Out of thanks for today! I will definitely be looking into this!

It is a great app I have been using for a while now but it is not perfect. You have to sometimes load it manually before you visit a site that needs a login and sometimes you have to copy paste the username and password. However, it is still an outstanding app and I could not be without it.

Sweet! I remember trying this app out before on my note 3 and it was a pretty bad battery hog. Have you been running it long enough to get a sense of whether or not it still is? Also - how much does the subscription cost?

Are you saying this should allow a fingerprint scan to work as logon for websites? I answered yes to use fingerprint scanner, but can't get it to work. It just seems to enter password data, never asks for a finger scan.

Why does it need access to your camera and microphone?! Seems really cool but not cool with the permissions it needs.

Yeah, I use my finger print to logon. The beauty is now my password are crazy like #kdSDkok&! and different for each site. I don't have to remember them since the program does.
You need to make sure you check on, "require password prompt." when you edit the site.
Also under preference, make sure you check on, "enable fingerprint reprompt."
Seems fine on the battery so far but i'd have to use it longer to really know. The subscription is a dollar a month. If this works as intended for the next two weeks, ill def consider purchasing it.
.

Just saw this on lastpass today! Very cool. And yea, it does take up a lot of memory, relatively speaking.

Hey, this is just a thumbs-up for Lastpass. I've been using then for a couple years-ish and it's fantastic. Obviously the biggest draw is that you can use better passwords since you don't have to remember them and Lastpass will fill them in. I also agree that the app is fantastic and is great when paired with the fingerprint scanner. However, even if you don't use the scanner you can set it to accept a pin number to unlock Lastpass, which is what I used until I got my Note 4.
While their security is very good and they seem to be very transparent, just remember nothing is unhackable so....always be safe

You have three slots so you can do three fingers or you can do the same finger multiple times which may increase accuracy. I would at least do two different fingers.

I do my left and right thumb, 15 times each. Also, now that a lot of you got a case, it's good to re-capture them if necessary. Made a video last night Here.

The whole finger print scanning to login apps is not true. The finger print scanning allows you to login lastpass app only, after which you have to tap the corresponding login info for every app so Fingerprint scanning doesn't let you log into apps just by swiping your fingers. It's still cool though but not as cool as I expected it to be. Thanks for sharing though

[FAQ]FingerPrint Scanner SDK for Apps

The Fingerprint Scanner SDK (originally posted at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1202577) for Android has been released by Authentec. Currently there is only one device(Motorola Atrix) with a fingerprint scanner, but if you release your application with support for the fingerprint scanner (once you get the hang of it it is really not hard to use at all) then users of phones with fingerprint scanners will most likely be happier with your application.
Google has stated that Google Wallet will use fingerprints to unlock the payment system, so clearly more capable devices are on the way (source: http://www.qrcodepress.com/google-unveils-safety-measure-for-their-upcoming-mobile-wallet/853399/). Including fingerprint scanner capability in your application will also future-proof it as AuthenTec will have the same framework in place in other phones that will use their fingerprint scanner (Authentec is a leader in biometric security systems for lots of devices).
MotoDEV Article Guide:
http://developer.motorola.com/docstools/library/writing-fingerprint-enabled-apps
Read and Download the (simple) SDK at their site:
http://developers.authentec.com/
Example of SDK Usage (pulled from the SDK)At the time of this writing, it is my understanding that before you release the application you need to have them review it to meet their security specifications... They don't want you using this fingerprint scanner library and making their work look bad. It's a fair deal to me. I'm not sure if this is how they want it though - maybe that is just for Advanced SDK or maybe I'm just wrong (taken from their site) It appears right now that there is a mismatch between the developers and the makers of the authentec site... apparently there is no requirement for using the fingerprint scanner, so develop away!
I have an Atrix and the fingerprint scanner is amazing, once you use it you will never go back to patterns or pins. As such this guide was written by a user of the Atrix - future devices might not use the exact methodology but it should be nearly identical.
I have the Advanced SDK but I have not used any of the advanced functions yet. After using the code (And getting it to finally work) I have found some things that are not documented or are documented incorrectly in the SDK docs and I have come here to post items that will save you great time. If you find others I hope to hear about them so I can add it to the list - I'll even credit you (maybe with a post number so you can score some thanks points!)
The swipe fingerprint screen won't show up - but I'm getting a result (mine was always 14)
AM2 (Authentec fingerprint framework - there are a lot of unsubscribed terms in the documentation so just go with me here) requires Internet Permission (perhaps to verify the key for the advanced SDK, it might not be done locally - without a key advanced SDK functions will not load). If you don't, all uses of the tsm.jar will not work. Not listed at all in documentation
AM2ClientLibraryLoaded() doesn't work with the code they provide!?
You must Instantiate Authentec.AM2ClientLibraryLoaded() - SDK Docs shows as static but it is not used in the example program they give.
It goes into verification but does not show anything and locks up the fingerprint sensor.
Do not change the 'screen' in the examples of sScreen... I thought that was the title of the window that would appear, but apparently those strings are built into it... it would work better as static fields passed as integers. For values look at the next answer.
What can I use for sScreen (viaGfxScreen(string))?
The documentation says nothing of this but these are different types of verification screens. There is fingerprint scanning only and then there is the unlock style one where you also get the PIN. I'm guessing a modifed version of this is how the lock screen works.
"lap-verify" is fingerprint and PIN
"get-app-secret" is fingerprint only - hit and miss right now... will update when I get it perfected
Why does it lock up?
Only 1 app at a time can access the fingerprint scanner. Motoblur seems to access it occasionally and I think that's why it died on the Atrix's Froyo 1.8.3. It seems mostly fixed but as you develop you will most likely lock it up as you debug. Having a wrong sScreen variable will kill your FP scanner. If it locks in your app you will lose the ability to unlock the device with the FP scanner.
Use DDMS to kill com.authentec.TrueSuiteMobile and the lock will work again. This might work on 1.8.3 but I'm not sure it works that way. If the application exits with the home button, it seems to also lock it up. I'm looking into a way to avoid this..
I can't register my application, it's failing with code 6 - (System Error)
I encountered this one myself when using my Api key for com.mgamerzproductions.gibbertalk - I changed it to com.mgamerzproductions.gibbertalk.testing and it no longer worked. They did tell me this in the email that it is only for one package - so make sure you choose wisely, or bribe the people giving out the API keys to give you another one. I wish it was more specific (API_KEY_NOT_AUTHENTIC or something)
I'm still having problems. What can I do?
You can use these tags for debugging in logcat:
AMJNI (AuthenTec Mobile - permissions - server)
TrueMobileSuite (some gfx log info - swipe fingerprint screen)
AndroidRuntime (will tell you crash related things, as debugging for errors will produce too much to read at once)
Any other things would be greatly appreciated for all of use Developers so speak up if you have something I don't have listed and I'll add it.
If you want to use the encrypted storage provided by the framework you'll need to apply for the Advanced SDK. You have to give them a description of your app, and it has to be security related (obviously that's the whole point of the fingerprint scanner and they don't want you to abuse it).
If you like the guide, and you are on MotoDev, I wouldn't mind a kudos in the contest http://community.developer.motorola...print-Enabled-Apps-quot-article-in/td-p/17206

Spoke to OP, moved to main Android development, as this would be of more interest to the development community in general, as I'm sure other phones will be using fingerprint scanning (and this sdk) in the near future.

This should not cause the system to lock up; it should cause your app to delay briefly and either continue with your request or return to you with an error. If you can duplicate some other result reliably, please share details.
> If someone also can upload and create an eclipse project it would be must easier to import and view their source code they post. I tried but eventually gave up cause of so many problems.
The eclipse projects for these examples are very simple -- with the exception of the .project you have everything you need in the example directories. Worst case is you can create a new Android project and replace its manifest, sources and resources with those provided by the examples. Then point the build path at your tsm.jar and you'll be ready to go.

What I meant was that if an app is asking for the fingerprint reader (not the app entirely, but actively asking for the FP reader scan), and motorola does something in the background with the FP scanner (on atrix), it can lock it up. This was heavily apparent on Atrix 1.8.3 but in the new update it seems to have been mostly fixed.
Errors: If you bring up the window with anything but lap-verify or get-app-secret, the window will lock up (and i think fingerprint reader will lock up as well - if you return to the lockscreen you'll see it never finishes initializing it) I can attempt to reproduce this error but I want to finish some development I am doing now.
heilpern said:
com.authentec.TrueSuiteMobile drives the UI, directly or indirectly depending on exactly what's going on (indirectly in the case of the lock screen, for example). If this package is killed it will restart with the next fingerprint operation however it will disrupt any currently active verification attempt (causing the requesting app to receive an error -- probably the USER_CANCELED error).

I never really kill it except if it locks up. Haven't tested what it returns (perhaps null)

Here's something you can do to experiment if you're using StoreCredential -- swipe one of your existing fingers (the index fingers) and you'll store data to that particular finger. Swipe a different finger (multiple times as prompted) and eventually (after three swipes if all goes well) you'll be asked which finger you just enrolled (and your credential will be stored to that finger). This new finger can be used for subsequent Store Credential requests (without the automatic training session) and to release data stored with Get Secret... but only the index fingers can be used to unlock the Atrix.

Yeah, in the original thread I had that image posted... It's in the framework but it never was used... I'm not sure if it was there for this purpose or was just cancelled at the end because it was incredibly confusing... I don't get why you would need all those credentials. It's not like your phone will get passed around that much. You swipe new fingers just like you would if you were registering a finger, then you choose the finger... but the accuracy of the 'pick a finger' one is pretty bad.
Would love to see a test apk where we can try this out...
Nothing available right now?
My application works with the FP scanner... its not done yet though.
These are the included APK's that are the code samples they use:
Download tsm-apk-pack.zip from Host-A
Will it support HTC Desire HD? It won't right?
The fingerprint scanner is a hardware device, just like a laptop fingerprint reader. Its not touchscreen, unfortunately.

I agree that a more telling error code would be a better option. Error 6 is eAM_STATUS_ACCESS_ERROR but that value can be returned for other problems as well.
Note that if a generic API key is needed, TSM-0E08085A-1210171A-001A7465-632E7473 can be used if you name your package com.authentec.tsmgetsecret. You cannot post that package to the Market however if you want a means of creating a test APK with a neutral package name that package/key combination will work.
Has AuthenTec claimed that package name on the market...?
they probably should or someone might take that package...

[Q] Multiple users accounts

Hi,
is it possible to have more than one google account on one Nexus7 device?
(this thread should be at Nexus7 Q&A)
Moved to Nexus 7 Q&A.
EDIT: Never mind, I was wrong, you get the option of choosing which account to use as the person below me has said.
I have a second Google account on my Desire Hd.
Its not much of an issue, when you are using google apps eg. YouTube, G+, Gmail you get a choice of which account you want to use and you can logout and choose the other whenever you want.
Syncing is not a problem either, whichever account you pick when you make changes they will be saved to only that account.
My YouTube widget changes depending on which account i am using when i exit the YouTube app.
Hope this helps
Sent from my Desire HD using xda app-developers app
I use multiple Google accts on my phone (ICS/CM9). Sync'ing, etc works just fine. Whenever it gets to a point where you have to choose the account you want something under, it prompts you. The issue/solution for me for Facebook (for my wife & I) will likely be Friendcaster (which allows multiple accts).
I was thinking more about choosing an user after waking-up the tablet. Just like windows has. One for me, other for my wife.
The perfect solution would be face to unlock, but I don't think it would be avaliable soon.
Tablets feel like windows 98 all over again. I guess this is because of their phone roots (the thought being one user owns a phone). But with tablets, many want to share.
As your example of you and your wife. Or even security. I'm at my bro's and my nephew wants to play with my tablet, and he's pretty responsible, but he could actually start reading/deleting my email, uninstall apps, buy apps via google market. Btw, I expressly choose never to save anything to google wallet, I've only made a few purchases and have been careful of this, but last thing I bought, my credit card info was all ready to go. Sigh.
But yes not only would I like multi-users I would like to make others have limited functionality, as in they can't install/uninstall apps etc. Even a simple thing like letting my nephew play a game I was in the middle of playing, well he cleared all the stages so I have to remember which stage I was on each time I launch it, or clear them all and start over.
But I suspect it'll be this way for a long time.

Wow... I wasn't aware of that app, either. This is from one of the reviews, though:
Log out does not really work like Windows where you log out and then select another user but rather you have to go into the App and say SWITCH user. Once you do SWITCH user, you actually have to wait for the device to reboot into the other user so it is not running multiple instances

I'd think that if the dev on this app could get help from or work with the devs on the popular launchers, better integration would ensue... Like the review said, though... great start...
I've actually installed this app and ran it. You do have to reboot whenever you "switch" which for me isn't a big deal. I haven't had a chance to mess with it too much yet but it looks like the closest option to running multiple accts. From what I can tell you can add a pic for each profile and u can choose which acct to load which is nice, but the lite version only allows 2 profiles, you have to buy a key for more.
1 caution though, it may mess things up a bit with the play store. I tried buying a key after switching back to my profile, and I got an error saying my order could not be processed try again. I'm going to give it some time & try again in a few hours & see what happens.
Using it now too. Seems pretty cool. Seeing as EVERYONE loves wanting to see your phone. LoL!! There is an experimental switch feature that swtiches without rebooting, but I'm not too sure that's working just yet. LoL!!
I'll give this a try too. It may seem worth it.
And a question for the OP. Is that your comment I seen in the store? About the wife and kids? LoL!! =.P
I noticed that switching to a different profile doesn't retain apps between users. Say for instance on the admin profile (mine), I have Plex purchased and installed. On the newly created profile with a different account, it doesn't show up in the apps page (which makes sense because it's a different account). This could become a problem for those with the 8gb model (like myself) where you might have duplicate apps installed based on the user(s) which would take up more space. I think for the sake of saving space, it may be wise for me to install only maintenance/tool type apps on the admin profile for tablet management, then, anything else (games, productivity etc) can be tied to the newly created profile so that I'm not duplicating installed apps.
Can anyone that has done this estimate how much space an extra profile consumes? My 8 GB nexus 7 stock out of the box has ~5.75 GB available. Will adding a second profile consume another ~2 GB plus any additional apps, data, etc? I'm hoping that some of that 2 GB is due to medium format, and other reserved space...

Kids & The Nexus 7

Hey Nexus 7 peeps!
Santa Claus brought my kids (7 & 8yrs old) N7 tablets for Christmas. I've been researching alternatives for locking them down, and haven't found anything (yet) that really meets the needs. For reference, I've setup the kids Windows 7 PC with Microsoft Family Safety & Security & about a thousand group policies. Given all that I have no worries right now leaving them with the PC with minimal supervision. They use chrome and I have it setup to use the Microsoft FSS site to do any websearches they do.
So.. I'd like to do something similar with their tablets. I have about 3 days before they come back from their grandparents house to get these things configured. I'm currently setup as the "owner" and my kids have their own users setup. For the moment, they are hooked up to my google account. I'm not adverse to changing that, but want to figure out what the options are first.
Heres my thoughts on what they should have:
Chrome, only if I can put some kind of filtering on. Not opposed to OpenDNS (router is setup with DD-WRT already). I'm not obsessed with allowing chrome (or web browser access) right now.
Play store hidden or disabled. I've required a pin for purchase & in-game purchase, which is fine for now but not ideal.
Google now/etc fine if some parental controls can be added.
Email available only to/from people on parent managed contact list, or disabled completely.
Prefer to have a launcher that has a subset of all available apps, and perhaps drawer restrictions/etc
I'm totally not opposed to rooting or whatever would help with this, or even installing CM10 or something if it would help.
I feel like I must be missing something. All of this seems so very basic to me, yet I've not yet found what I'm looking for. There must be other people who got N7s for kids, and want to have a little bit of parental control over whats going on here. I'm looking for recommendations on how to proceed.
Thanks in advance, appreciate any advice offered.

http://www.wikihow.com/Block-Porn-on-Android
This is to get you started, I haven't done much other research.
check out this post of mine: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=35197028&postcount=2
OP was asking whether create a separate account for her daughter or not.
And answers to your specific questions:
- Chrome doesn't support any plugins, there are system-wide apps that filter content (probably root required)
- disable it with link2sd or any app that handles apps, nova launcher (and many others) can hide apps from app drawer, its still there, just not in the drawer. (though with filtering, i dont know why you would disable play store, with no credit card its harmless)
- I don't really understand what you mean, but google search does have filtering.
- either remove gmail/email completely, or filter emails in gmail filter settings (sth like anything not from dad, mom, relatives, directly remove. Can be done with no problems, the same way you would handle labels in gmail)
- any aftermarket launcher pretty much. check nova, apex (those are built on stock ics/jb launchers) both enable to hide apps from drawer, but everything can be reset with some tinkering. Google for some kid launchers or sth, I'm sure there is stuff.
I think you're panicking too much to be honest. Its not a gsm device, it doesnt send txts, so you will not get a 100$ bill at the end of the month, apps in play store are safe with filtering (I'm pretty sure you can lock that too), and if they're not tech savvy they shouldn't find their way around your little tricks, but don't underestimate them, kids are very smart, and just may surpass you sooner then you know.
If you have to set so many restrictions on devices, you shouldn't have gotten them in the first place, rather get nintendo DS or PSP.
Awesome, thanks for the advice. I'm looking through your recommendations now. This is my first experience with "Real" jellybean.... I've been using a seriously hacked CM10 for my Droid X2. So this is the first time I've had the opportunity do deal with mutliple users. The cool thing I've found is that apps can be disabled per-user, which makes things a lot easier. Many of the apps that I dont really want them to have, I've just disabled and all seems to be well. I signed them both up with their own Gmail accounts, and I'll monitor that on my own.
My kids are definitely tech savvy, I'm an application developer & generally a white-hat hacker; some of that has rubbed off on them. I think everything is cool now, your point about the google store w/o credit card is totally valid, and I hadn't even considered that. Given that, I've setup restrictions on content from store, content in chrome, and content in youtube. I still want to do a little research on content control in Chrome (plus it will give me a valid excuse to root it, everydamnthing in my house needs to be hacked in some way :good
It may well be that I've panicked too much. Its just that the windows setup is so completely perfect, that I'd like it to be on par. I trust my kids, but only so far. My elder has a form of autism that complicates discussions about what to/not to do.
Appreciate your recommendations!

Quite sure the play store got an update recently that requires the account password when attempting to buy any pay apps. It does on mine here anyway. just checked my sons stock tablet and it looks like Google have finally got their act together and are using server side authentication for purchases.
Oh and if you do get the tablets rooted this little program is a must
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fivehellions.android.muappshare
Allows you to share and control apps between user accounts on same tablet. I use it to let my son play my paid games whilst restricting him from using my account.
Cheers Danny
I know that go launcher allows you to hide apps, and you can use a password program to restrict access to the go launcher settings. Just my 2¢.

Thanks for the appshare. That is brilliant. Haven't used it yet, but I'm certain I will. Both are now rooted w/ CWM installed. For now I'm going to leave them with stock browser.... at 7 & 8 they're not yet actively searching for things they shouldnt be. I'll address that as it comes, but I'm way glad I rooted them now, as unlocking kills user data.
My wife is an Apple junkie (yes, yes, you can save the comments) but even she was impressed with the 4.2 ability to switch users, a feature starkly missing from iThings. I explained that it was a decision brought down by the Ghost Of Steve Jobs, and not an oversight.
End of the day... getting very close to having them configured properly, and none too soon. The kidlets return tomorrow afternoon from grandparents....

It only does that when I try to use my play credit. If I use a credit card, it doesn't prompt me

Ah, I am using a debit card in the UK. It could be a card type thing or even a country thing.
Sorry it took me so long to post and you have set up the tablet, but here's what i did for my daughter's N7:
I set her up with her own Gmail account. Rooted and unlocked the N7 and set it up as hers.
I added her account to my N7 so i can see activity etc. Case, screen protector and stylus.
APPS:
Adfree of course
Avast! In case it is ever lost, & some nice anti virus etc
Smart App Protector - password protect any app....so although I got her her own email address, she can't read, or send email without password...you can lock down the browser too, which I did, because she has games with links that will open a browser. THIS app is awesome.
Parent Dashboard, because it has some fun videos and apps -
I toyed with this being her desktop for a bit but too restrictive - I do like the ability to send her video messages (shared custody).
Skype so we can video chat (only for contacts, natch).
I don't have a credit card attached to her account, but if she wants to buy, I can do a couple things...add it on my N7, buy add to her wishlist them she can d/l on her. Our i can add cc and buy on hers and remove cc.
I think that's about everything and let her go to town.

YubiNotes is an open source secure notes app for Android that supports using either a password or the YubiKey NEO to encrypt/decrypt notes. Encryption/Decryption is based on a simple lock system that stores and wipes necessary keys for decryption.
YubiNotes is the perfect companion for anyone with a YubiKey NEO or the desire to keep their secrets to themselves.
Notes are encrypted using AES/CBC with PKCS5 Padding. The encryption and decryption process is based on 4 security keys. The first two are generated the first time the app is started and subsequently stored for safe keeping. The second two are the result of the hashed password or Yubikey input string.
As long as the device is locked only the unique device id keys are stored on the device. The other two keys are wiped when the note store is locked. A one-way hash of the password is also stored on the device when password mode is used.
Would love to get some feedback, so feel free to give the app a spin and shout out your thoughts and ideas!

Wow, no feedback yet for this excellent app!!
So, here's mine - excellent app and the perfect companion to Lastpass, as Yubinotes lets me use the yubikey OTP to safely store secure information as well as long passwords for non-yubikey enabled apps such as Roboform, which I have for now as a backup to Lastpass (just migrated). Exactly what I needed, since the Yubikey does not let me use both OTP and Static passwords in Android (without reconfiguring the key, which is not practical). Well done!
Thanks for the nice feedback! The Yubikey is still a bit of a niche product, but personally, I find Yubinotes a useful companion.

Unt, thanks for fixing the inability to edit a note. I am finding that when I select text, the only thing I can do is paste. No other options, such as copy, select all, etc show up.
Bug?

Much appreciated. The app, barebones as it is, does what it is supposed to do and works quite well for me - except that as I use it to store passwords, I need the ability to copy the password so that I can paste it into a form.
Thanks again!

Cool to hear that you find it useful! Im actually attending an advanced Android training this week, so maybe Ill just sit down some day this week and work out some much needed improvements.

"Good Work" app and fingerprint

I generally dont put a lockscreen or anything on my phone. This app for work email called "good work" makes me put in a full on alphanumeric password EVERY TIME i use it. on iphone, you can just use TouchID until the next time the app quits and reboots, but on the S7e it makes me constantly put this cumbersome password in. Anyone know of an app i can use that will let me use fingerprint to log in?
on a side note, what calendar app do you guys use?
I use Good for Enterprise and only when you reboot you have to enter a pin after that fingerprint is fine. I think it really depends on the secuirty protocol your company chooses to apply, it's not Good specific. In other words you may have no choice.
Have a VP in your company ***** about it to IT and they will change it to allow finger print. (From experience)

I was going to say reach out to IT as well. My better half uses Good, as she (lucky) gets to work from home once in a while. In Online Support, I do not have that luxury.
