Box 50GB Xperia promotion - Xperia Z3 Compact General

I randomly stumbled upon this, and it worked on my Z3 compact.
Box has partnered up with Sony to offer 50 GB free storage space forever on you account if you download and log in from your Xperia.

They offered this for years for any android user in general. Was able to get the promotion with my nexus 4 back in the day. Good for anyone who is new to Box.

Thanks

Great!

Is their service good compare with dropbox?
Seems like they are actively developing the product.

Depends what you're using it for, I guess. I used to use Box all the time for the stuff I shared here but I quickly found that they'd limited how many downloads I could have a month. Not helpful if you're looking at thousands of downloads a week..
These days I use Mediafire and it's fine for me.

Box
I signed up when the Box 50GB offer was announced on a Sony mobile phone over five years ago.
I still have 50GB of available storage.
You have to commend a company for sticking to their word when so many other companies are reducing there unpaid storage allocation.
As it's a 'known' company many/most file managers have the option to link to your Box account and thus, allow your file manager to extend to a cloud service as if it was a local folder/file source.
Box as a company tend to focus on business accounts with services that reflect and cater for those needs. (is my understanding)

XDA 2 for 20 pounds!!

Hi There,
I have found a website that has a matrix wait list for xda 2's, you join a list by buying three ebooks for 20 great british pounds, this puts your name on a list and when the list becomes full the person with there name at the top of the list gets the phone, and you move up. It takes time but you get the phone in the end. Its not only Xda's they have laptops and lots of other phones too. If you are intrested please e-mail me at
[email protected]
and i will be happy to pass on the information.
The phone is sim free and open to any network, please feel free to e-mail me if you are intrested and hope this allows people to enjoy the brilliance that is the xda 2.
Just wondering....Why not to pass on the info. in here?! What's the difference
There are several of these schemes around - just variations on the old and very illegal pyramid schemes. They work if you get in at the start - otherwise you just wait and wait until they go bust or the DTI shut them down. I got in at the start of one in the mid 90's and earn't a lot of money, but the wait for a return got longer and longer and them the DTI shut it down after only 9 months. How long has this one been going?
As xda-rocks stated these are pyramid schemes
One such site is http://www.mobiles4all.com/
Plenty of talk about them in the usenet newsgroups uk.telecom.mobile
HTH
Mark
The site is fairly new and is www.pjelectricals.co.uk , the original reason i didnt put it up was i was hoping if people emailed me they could put me down as there referral when they sign up, this moves my name up the list quicker. I am currently number 25 on the list.
So if anyone decides to go for this could you please put down
Charles John Grant as your referral.please.
I had to buy this information of ebay. The site is fairly new as all the lists are still pretty short for all the products. Its worth a look.
I dont want to sound like im sayings its a scam...
But it is. A good friend of mine payed his £20 to that site back in February, he ordered one of the cheaper phones and reached the top of the list within a couple of weeks..
He still doesnt have his phone or £20 back. He never even got the free CD-ROM that was meant to come in the post..
The moral of the story. Its a pyramid scheme, you send in your money and get nothing back in return. Sorry. Dont fall for these types of scam in future, and certainly dont bid for links on sites like eBay.
( i just hope it works for you ! )
Thanks i hope it works for me too. I appreciate your your opinion but maybe im living in false hope but i have been emailing a guy who has an XDA 2 from the site. I'll let you know if it doesnt or does work, maybe im living in false hope but ignorance is bliss.

We need to talk about bridges. Bridges are great investments. Forget phones: we're talking hundreds of thousands of dollars in pure profit, practically overnight.
I too put £20 into one of these get a free laptop schemes a few years back, i was number 4 on the list and after about 5 months of waiting the emails stopped comming in telling me my list position and about 2 weeks after that the site dissaperared without a trace and with my money,
You have to be very lucky if you do get anything through these schemes, I'd say that unless your in position 1 or 2 the list is likely to be shut down before you get anything

The ridiculous thing about the Arc/Arc S

Hello to you all, once again
I've been an android user since the beggining and i always loved the free part of it. I mean the free development, the free will and the free sharing of it. The arc s is my 3rd android phone and sadly i see that apart from the free development, free will and free sharing, there are people who charge you for "services" that could well be shared. I see the threads of my early phones and they florish but this one it gets stuck, over and over. Its a competitive world, i get it. but i think that here in xda, which is a forum i follow since my earliest and survivour omnia, it was all about sharing knowledge and experience with each other. Anyway, just a thought.
I think the problem with Arc is that there is no easy / free way of unlocking the bootloader for people who have their phone from a carrier. And without unlocked bootloader there are no custom ROMs..

If it costs the devs to unlock our phone ,you can hardly expect them to pay that .
Most of the dev here is free the only thing I ve seen that is been charged for is bl unlocking.
PS. if a stranger stopped and fixed your car for free ,would u offer him a few quid ?
Now image that the stranger is the other side of the world using his computers, internet and free time developing for a phone he may not even use (ie fxp serve all 2011 xperias + some 2010 and I'm sure they don't personally use them all).
In my opinion people have to have some consideration and appreciation. devs use a lot of their resources to help our community and if everyone gave a few quid donation from that bowl of penny's everyone has ,to the person who has helped u
It not a big deal really is it?
Also I am not a dev or anything ,just someone who gives a little to get a lot.

There is reason why our developers are not hacking the bootloader for Sim locked ones. Since Sony has provided us with the option unlock bootloader for sim free devices they don't want to screw up the relationship with Sony developers.

I paid extra for my phone to be SIM-Free, so why should people with cheaper carrier subsidized phones get unlocked bootloaders?

I agree dev should get paid or compinsated for there work. Its the carriers or Sony that has lost the concept here .Putting out a phone that requires us to pay money to use it to its true full extent...as a previous x10 owner I loved the fact that I could flash a new rom once a week if I choose too . After all I did pay to own this device not rent it!!!!

(REQUEST) A Call to ARMS... for an R800x 2.3.4 fix

As it has been months since VZ released this god awful bug filled release of 2.3.4 breaking Google Sync in the process, and after a couple months finally admitting there was an issue with it and no release. I say we bombard VZ with emails about a fix for this issue for our phone. I would very much like to use 2.3.4 but as I rely way too much for work emails to have to constantly hit refresh on my phone to see if I get an email..... thats stupid.. VZ just needs to get it done, fixed and update the dam* thing.
I would like to get support from as many R800x users who are just as unhappy about this situation with our 2.3.4 update by contacting the upper management at VZ at the following
212-395-1060 is the number for the CEO's office.
212-719-3349 is the fax number for the CEO's office.
212-321-8700 is Verizon Executive Customer Service.
[email protected] is the CEO's email address.
I would like to point out one very BS reply to a VZ customer on the VZ forums regarding this issue.

Verizon? Its been months now. We have no word of when this issue will be fixed. We are all paying for a service and a phone that doesn't do what its supposed to, its doesn't sync with Google, Gtalk doesn't work, and Facebook barely works unless you're connected via WiFi.
You know about the issue Verizon and last we were told You and Google and Sony were working on a fix. Well its been months, where is the fix?
Please do not respond with make sure your phone is updated, it is.

Tommy_861, I can understand why it would be upsetting for features to stop working that previously did before. Per our product team, connectivity issues with Google Talk were found to be caused by changes to Google's encryption servers and this is no longer supported by the Xperia Play. I apologize for any inconvenience. The issue with Gmail sync has been reported, but I don't have any info on when this will be resolved. For Facebook, are you using the application or the browser? If an application, try using the browser.

To say that our Xperia PLAY is no longer supported by Google as the encryption servers have changed is total BS. This is completely ridiculous and I am already so fed up with VZ right now as it is. So I would like to ask for any and all R800x users to blast the above contact information with emails, calls, faxes griping about this and asking (want to be demanding but it wont help the situation, so be nice but firm) that they fix our phones update. It shouldnt take them a day to resolve if they just fix it and get it done.
For those who want to support this cause post below and please at least email

poorxperiaplay Aug 7, 2012 5:38 PM (in response to B_Sales07)
I loved my Xperia Play. You can replace it 100 times but if it has 2.3.4 on it, it's essentially broken. I've talked to several different people in support over the last few months and not one of them has admitted to having any idea what I'm talking about. They claim to have no documentation regarding the issue. If that's true then that tells me that no one is working on the problem and as suggested before me, you'll have to live with it or get a different phone. I really liked this phone. I'm really annoyed that Verizon has butchered nearly every aspect of supporting this phone.

I'm sorry to hear that you're no longer enjoying your Xperia Play. I know it can be upsetting when features that previously worked no longer work after an update. According to our product team and Sony, there were changes to Google Talk's encryption settings in May, and Google Talk will no longer be supported on the Xperia Play. I apologize for any inconvenience. Our product team is still investigating issues with Gmail sync.

I have emailed the CEO at VZ.
This is what I wrote:
Hello,
Earlier this year, May 1st, an OTA was released for the above phone which I own. And as I was glad to see an update myself and every other user of this phone on your service is very upset with the result of this update. As a result Google Sync servers no longer work. In order to check your Google Talk, Voice, Gmail you have to manually select "refresh" to see if there is anythnig new in any of our Google related software. I have seen several threads on your support forums with people complaining of this issue and its either been "there is no issue" to "Google changed the encryption on the servers and as a result your phone is no longer supported by Google" (really.....its a Google phone).
I have made a thread on XDA requestin that all R800x users voice their frustration at this absurd situation and lack of support for our phone. As a result of this bug filled OTA, it pretty much makes all Google related services null. Thus defeating one of the main reasons people buy a Google/Android phone, for the services which now no longer work without a constant manual refresh by the user.
I would like to not only voice my extreme frustration and unhappines to this lack of customer service but also politely and respectfully ask that an update please be made to resolve these issues. If this is an effort to purposefully make people want to buy a newer phone then I promise you this will be my last phone from your company. Until now I loved this phone and for the gaming I still love this phone. But your service I am not happy with and unless this is resolved I plan on taking my entire family (23 members with your service for the last 5-15 years) with me as we go to another company provider.
Please do not let this disservice ruin your companies reputation and leave people with a desire to vacate your services due to a lack of customer support/service for our beloved gaming phone. Thank you for your time and I once again respectfully ask that an update please be released to fix these issues. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Jesse Gregory

Aha!!!! The plot thickens.....haha... I hate their idiotic replies to your question.... that part about our phone being unsuported by Google due to encryption..... I laughed at how idiotic that was... I mean its a freaking Google phone....well the OS is google.... anyways...a$$holes
I sent this message to him as well:
Mr Seidenberg,
Thank you for taking the time to read my email. I am writing you on behalf of myself and every other person who has purchased a Sony Ericsson Xperia Play from Verizon. First off I want to say I love the phone and thank Verizon for taking a chance selling a phone that really only appeals to niche consumers. However, without boring you with the technical details, unfortunately Verizon has broken some of the phone's main functionality with its most recent software update released about 4 months ago.
I and others have complained about this issue, and we have gotten a range of responses from "we're working on it" to "its Sony's fault" (and Sony blames Verizon), or "we don't know what you're talking about", and the worst of all most recently "The Xperia Play no longer supports those Google features". That last response is what bothers me, and everyone else. Firstly, the same update for Verizon has been released for all other versions of the Play for other carriers and unlocked with no issues, which means changes Verizon made to it to add their software features are what caused the issue. Secondly how do you tell a person who is paying you nearly $100 a month for a service on a phone they bought with specific important features (Google services are a main and important part of Android), that sorry you paid for something and it doesn't work and its not our fault/problem.
This is just patently unfair, and honestly as a long time customer of Verizon I expected and hoped for better. The worst part is if I wanted to just end using this phone I am stuck paying full price for a phone or waiting more than half a year to upgrade or leave Verizon for fear of an ETF. But I don't even want to upgrade or cancel, I like this phone and I'm otherwise happy with my service. I implore you as a loyal customer to direct as many resources you can to fixing this problem. I realize we are likely a very small group, but we are subscribers nonetheless.
I look forward to your kind and prompt response.

2 year contracts, its the norm here in a country where people feel the overwhelming need to toss their cellphones every 2 years or less.
But its subsidized, so I paid out of pocked like $100 for it. But you pay it back in the contract
Revol Wireless will flash your Verizon CDMA device to their service. I plan on doing that after I get out of college since they have unlimited everything for 45 USD per month.
Plus, I don't care about OEM's anymore, when we have these lovely custom ROMS here.

Faxed (I hope it got through) and emailed. No time to call as I'm in Dublin.
Some of the following is untrue, but I'm Irish and in no way ever dealt with VZ before so excuse my noobness.
Dear Verizon CEO,
My name is Shane Hastings and I'd just like to ask you something regarding your services and software updates for the R800x.
For over four months this device has had the inability to sync with Google Services automatically. This has left myself along with hundred other Verizon no choice but to switch to another carrier, or simply cancel payments to your service.
As the problem is major and a MAJOR part of Android devices, this in fact makes the device "broke".
I'm running the latest software. Do not reply with "Google has stopped encryption support for the R800x" as this is not true. I myself am studying law at university.
Regards,
Shane Hastings

BlackBerry is finally taking BBM cross-platform, launching on iOS and Android this su

BlackBerry has announced today that its BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) messenger service will be launching on iOS and Android this summer. The new cross-platform app will support all Apple hardware running iOS 6 and higher, as well as Android version 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) and above.
It means that for the first time, BlackBerry owners will be able to communicate with users on other mobile platforms, for free, using the BBM service. The new apps will support multi-person conversations, voice note sharing and BlackBerry Groups; the latter of which lets users set up group for up to 30 people in order to share calendar information, photos and other files.
“For BlackBerry, messaging and collaboration are inseparable from the mobile experience, and the time is definitely right for BBM to become a multi-platform mobile service,” Andrew Bocking, Executive Vice President of Software Product Management and Ecosystem at BlackBerry said.
“BBM has always been one of the most engaging services for BlackBerry customers, enabling them to easily connect while maintaining a valued level of personal privacy. We’re excited to offer iOS and Android users the possibility to join the BBM community.”
BlackBerry CEO Thorsten Heins made the announcement at BlackBerry Live shortly after unveiling BBM Channels, a new social feature which will allow any company, celebrity or lifestyle brand to create a public page for BBM users to follow. Channel owners can send out news or status updates at anytime, which users can interact with by leaving a comment or ‘like’.
The concept feels very similar to Plus Friend Home, a combination of both instant messaging and passive social network accounts which was recently unveiled by Korean-startup Kakao for its cross-platform messaging app Kakao Talk.
It’s only a beta program for now, but BlackBerry plans to update the feature every two to four weeks ahead of a full launch later this summer. BBM Channels can post news and status updates at anytime, and users who follow these accounts will be able to comment and like on them too.
BlackBerry says BBM Channels will be added to its upcoming Android and iOS apps later this year, alongside voice and video calling, subject to approval by the App Store and Play Store.
Heins also announced today that BBM now has over 60 million monthly active users, which send and receive over 10 billion messages every day – twice as many as any other mobile messaging app. The number of daily active users that connect with other BBM enthusiasts for at least an hour and a half every day has also risen to 51 million.
It should come as no surprise that BlackBerry wants to expand the BBM service to new users. The rise of cross-platform mobile messaging apps such as Viber and WhatsApp has slowed the growth in BBM users, and perhaps even put off new consumers from switching to the BlackBerry 10 platform. The addition of BBM Channels is an interesting move, but one that will likely struggle to gain the same critical mass of users enjoyed by Twitter or Facebook.
A bold move, or just a case of too little, too late?

That would be The Worst Move For a company in that condition.
Bb is already messed up. Their sales merely started due to z10 and they bring it to other platforms? That is ridiculous. What would they charge $1 a year like WhatsApp? They could have sold a whole phone to at least 25% of the people looking forward to use Bb.
I don't think it is true. It must be a rumour or I will be forced to say that Bb is gonna shutdown soon.

Good move, it really threatens whatsaap, BBM it's an superior service period, only defect was you have to use an bbOS device with this.

I live in Ecuador and here people isn't the most smart so they buy Blackberrys because of the price and the ads that local carriers release. They make Blackberry look like some great technology. Many people are just getting the iPhone 4S which is and old phone too. People here thing high end devices like the Note II or the S4 are too much for them. They are afraid of new technology, some friend ask me if my Note could do things that are really impossible. So I hope I answer your question

I for one cant wait for BBM to hit android and ios. Haha and all the people saying its crap are gonna hit that download button when they realise ''everyones'' on it. BBM was awsome and the only good thing about a blackberry device, and now its gonna kill it after it becones a cross platform application. Other messengers and IM's are good but BBM is just different. Those who have used it will know.

Smash The Past contest turn of events

"Tomorrow we will be contacting the 100 lucky winners of our Smash the Past contest. Out of more than 140,000 applicants, these lucky fans will get a OnePlus One for only $1.
‘Smash the Past’ stemmed from a conversation a few of us had right as OnePlus was transforming from an idea to a real company. We wanted to build a device that was so good people would smash the phones they already had because they simply couldn’t live up. We believe we have that device in the One, and have been overwhelmed by the response to both the phone and the campaign.
OnePlus is a young startup with bold ideas. It’s tough to just survive in this industry, nevermind shake it up as we hope to do. ‘Smash’ reflects our desire to do just that: show the world that there’s something new available, something that just may be better than your current daily driver. However, we are also strong proponents of using technology to better the daily lives of people across the globe. For this reason, the chosen 100 applicants can choose to either smash their phone as planned, or donate it to the wonderful team at Medic Mobile. Medic Mobile is a nonprofit that recycles old phones for use by healthcare workers in remote areas of the world. As described by a member of the Medic Mobile team:
You're giving the best new tech out there for $1 and recycling users’ existing phones for good. And then we're turning those 100 phones into 1,000 phones for people that were left behind with the tech revolution. It brings it full circle in a really interesting way.
You can learn more about this organization at medicmobile.org or follow them on Twitter at @medic. We encourage you to consider donating your old phone to others in need who can use it, after you get your OnePlus One of course!
We want to thank the 140,000+ people who applied to smash their phones in exchange for a OnePlus One. The applications surpassed our expectations both in volume and creativity - we had no idea there were so many ways to break a phone! We are having a lot of fun reading these and to share this fun, below you have a few of the craziest ideas we found so far -
Playing tennis with it - serving, lobbying, forehand, backhand, slicing, and of course SMASHING.
Demolishing it with a homemade potato gun.
Cooking spaghetti bolognese with the phone as the main ingredient.
Liquidate it with nitrogen and a torque hammer.
Sending it up to space one-way with a model space rocket.
Flamethrower.
Ninja throwing stars.
Parachuting - without parachute.
Thank you for your support and feedback. We’re working to get the OnePlus One in your hands as soon as possible."
The above paragraph is an official statement from Oneplus and a big surprise for all of us that were unhappy and didn't like the Smash your phone gimmick. I think this was a very good decision from Oneplus. :good:
That's great news indeed! Imagine all the invites we will get... Hopefully enough that everyone here can buy a phone somewhere around early June...

Yes! I hope people share share share!!!
i hope they share their invites on here and not over there
Remember that the invites are for the white 16 GB version, which seems to be the less popular option of the two.
Congrats to the winners. Any hope of an initial invite is gone it appears. Roll on June

The 100 invites to the people smashing are the 16gb white version. The 3 invites those people get to give away are not limited to the 16gb version.

I hope some of those invites land in this forum even if they are for the 16gb model.

That's not clear. One of the company spokesmen said that the invitations would be for a specific variant of the phone and would expire quickly so that more people could get phones more quickly.

Doesn't really specify that only 16gb models will be for those that get invited by the initial 100. Just states there will be a bigger batch of 16gb over 4gb.

What it says there sounds like the 64GB will be available in early June, although it doesn't explicitly says the first invitations are for the 16GB only.

Yeah its not very clear. From what I'm reading it's going to be a small batch of 64gb at launch then followed by a larger batch of 64gb entering June. It doesn't say only 16gb batch in may just that 16gb will be the larger batch. They really need to clarify their statement.
Ready now - 100 for phone smashers
Mid to late May - Larger batch 16GB Silk White for the first batch of invites
Early June - Larger batch 64GB Sandstone Black
Later in June - Increased general availability, people who want it should be able to get an invite without much trouble in June

Yes, definitely that statement is not clear. It looks like it will be for June-July for the 64GB. There must be some strategy so it won't cannibalize the sales of the 16GB.
Glad they changed their minds after the revolt about smashing the device. Though interesting to see that it was OPPO all along.
I know this is a delayed reply but just wanted to post in the forum on this.
They listened to all the people asking for the 64GB:
Update May 6: "After seeing how popular the 64GB version was compared to the 16GB, we have pushed back the production of the 16GB Silk White in favor of getting the 64GB Sandstone Black out quicker."
