Running list of Note 4 Sprint/Samsung bloat/apps that are safe to remove - Sprint Galaxy Note 4 General

Now that root has been established and titanium is available to use, what apps are people safely removing/freezing? My last rom was on the Note 2 so a lot has changed since then for me. I assume there's a S5 list around that we can use as a base.
Edit: The list can be found on post 3.

I will update this as I go forward.

Put this list in the OP, and then just update the OP as people contribute more safe things to install - that way people don't need to scroll through the thread to find everything and it can all be in one place.
Great work on having the initiative to start this - these are always useful especially before there's a lot roms out that already take it all out/for people who like to customize their own stock.
*Probably should just change title to
Removable Sprint/Samsung Bloatware or something since you already got started on the list

Out of paranoia, I just freeze instead of uninstalling. My $. 02.

The more I play with this rom, the more I like the multitasking features like expanding windows. Also like one handed mode.
I would love to be able to replace the notification quick settings with AOSP quick settings, and get an AOSP lockscreen, and AOSP phone and contacts. in a custom Rom
---------- Post added at 09:39 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:38 PM ----------
Basically get all AOSP features and keeping TouchWiz innovation.
I feel that if we could get rid of any Samsung market tracking apps, this phone would be even better!

I get that. The programs I uninstalled I have uninstalled for many devices and roms in the past. I just finally purchased the pro version of Titanium so I'm starting to freeze more and add those to the list. Once I see no problems after a few weeks I'll back them up and remove them.

I have the KLMS Agent on freeze, no issues...make sure to freeze com.sec.enterprise.knox.attestation too....
Edit: found New Registration and RCPComponets are Knox related, froze both, got hung up on Sprint splash screen, had to do a battery pull ( not 100% sure its related as I had done other things) but rebooted fine and running with both froze...

Something keeps throwing an emergency manager service error at me when I restart so let's freeze it.

Me too.

For those of you who have rooted your device and Titanium Backup can not access "Backup Folder" (can not uninstall apps), you can simply change the default backup location in the settings. Change it to something that is writable.
Since I wanted to write to the SD card I had to install the SDFix app to allow Titatium Backup to write to the SD Card where I wanted and it allowed me to uninstall apps from then there after.

I didn't have an sd card problem.
ES file explorer, and titanium backup recognized the external card right off the bat.
The only app that is acting weird is Dolphin browser refusing to let me change external sd download directories.

What does the Amazon Preloader actually preload?

Is the connections optimizer bloat? Or is there a bug in it, it keeps shutting off location services randomly. I get it may be trying to save battery live but when you over 30% over 50% and over 80% i don't see why i keep getting notices location info was turned off. I think it still "may" serve a purpose of optimizing lte over wifi if the wifi is a poor connection and i have a strong lte spot but not sure.

I did some research and found you can disable it from within the phone under settings/more networks/moble networks ... I went ahead and added it to the freeze list.

Yea i saw that also i was trying to avoid disabling it but it notifying me every so often it shut things down now i need to turn it back on to do something is annoying

[Q] Root Explorer

The discussion I am searching for comes closest in the old "Holy Mother of Bloatware Batman" thread and I almost replied into it to ask for reports from folks who have done what I have and went a step further and actually uninstalled the system apps instead of just freezing them.
I have AT&T S4 and used Adam Outler's "Casual" tool to get root and TWRP recovery and have a 3.56 GB image of my device that I can restore saved in the phone and another copy on the SD card and also a copy saved on the PC. I did the backup in the custom recovery. I like the "windows" theme of TWRP as compared to CWM. Performing the backup took a little while but worked fine.
Then I installed Titanium Backup and started freezing system apps, and the long list looks similar to what's displayed in the OP in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2249581 "Holy mother of bloatware batman" thread.
I've been using the handset with out any problems for over two weeks now. I was even amused to follow up reading an alert I saw from the NRA and installed the Gun Geo Marker app from the Play store. I read all the horrible establishment propaganda in the app description, and then explored the app itself and discovered an error because I have something frozen. I was able to send in the error report and I included my free and independent thoughts in the error report, on how important it is for all of us to keep and bear arms to prevent the very tyranny they're pushing (as if I were making a difference LOL).
All of the important apps I use like Root Explorer work just fine.
And thank goodness I was alert and had AT&T's software update frozen, otherwise that unrootable update would have pushed into my handset over the airwaves.
I've been searching around here for the best place to discuss actually uninstalling these system apps using Titanium Backup so I thought I'd start this new thread. In yet another thread I found using "search" I saw someone state that using the function in Titanium Backup to uninstall these system apps I have frozen does not free up any memory! Is this true?

Last week I got an error about displaying HTML 5 when I was going to share the video about the $100,000,000 penny embedded in my webpage http://lango.us but it was an isolated incident. My handset has been up for weeks and after rebooting it this morning I tested that and it worked fine.
Also note that I do not participate in Facebook and I'm sure some users would not want to shut off quite as much as I have kept frozen with Titanium Backup.
I saw in another thread that using Titanium to delete these does not free up any memory. My hope is those that have been more bold to go where I have never gone before could report their experience. So far I suspect that I am right where I want to be, just keeping them frozen. I realize a custom rom will free up phone memory, just to clarify.
I've flashed plenty of handsets, but I don't want to hear about a custom rom for the S4 if I lose all the giggles I get from the Universal Remote in WatchOn.
Is there no benefit to downright deleting? Sounds like the consensus is just to keep them frozen. I saw another post that indicated to just delete it as it can be re installed from the Playstore.
I bet I can free up some space with Root Explorer, but I KNOW I'll be flashing my backup image repeatedly if I start experimenting with that! I would love to hear from someone a little further along than I am. Thank you. There's got to be someone who's tried this, and can list certain files or even entire folders I can delete from the root of the S4.

I always backup all the apps bloatware apps that I delete... If there frozen and have no issues deleting them will not change that...
You'll gain a little usable storage space but not much.. The reason why is the way the phone is partitioned... It was always have close to the same amount of usyable storage give or take a GB or 2 unless someone figures out a way to repartition the phone without turning it into a paperweight...
I've run multiple modified touchwiz Roms and aosp/aokp/Google edition Roms and even though they're smaller usuable storage remains roughly the same..
RAM however does free up some as well with the custom Roms

Thank you for explaining the partition details. Root explorer can delete what's in those partitions which is a good way to get a brick.
you have been very helpful and I will stick with Titanium Backup to make as much room as I can on my handset and I will stay away from root explorer
using root explorer to make room on the handset would be hazardous for even one who understood what all that stuff was in there

Root explorer is my favorite file tool because you can do anything with it but like you said I am going to stick with titanium backup and I am being careful thanks.
if there is anyone out there who has successfully deleted a large file off the root of their phone without it becoming a brick I would like them to find this thread and give me the names of what I can get rid of
Amd just to clarify...uninstalling system apps will give you no useable space...unless you start pushing all your apps to the system partition.
No matter what you will be stuck with ~9gb of useable storage you had when you booted up your s4 for the first time. And it will remain this way until a dev remaps our partition...which wont happen until we have a true bootloader unlock.
So ill end with this, uninstalling the apps you have already frozen will not affect anything...your performance will remain the same, there shouldnt be any new errors...you should be safe to uninstall everything youve already frozen since you havent experienced issues with them frozen

Ant Radio and plugins can be reinstalled in Google Play, they are free apps to download. I agree, definitely remove if not needed, but why say no to an FM radio!

Thanks for the list Joe. I'm going to have to go through this and make sure I've got all of the bloatware turned off.

Root isn't necessary to freeze/disable apps (freeze and disable are the same commands)
This link here http://galaxys5guide.com/samsung-galaxy-s5-how-to-guides/turn-off-my-magazine-on-galaxy-s5/ explains how to disable the Magazine app from the Applications Settings menu in the phone and this can be done for any system app on the phone.
This was a feature put in place around 4.3(?) because system apps could not be uninstalled without root; only updates could be uninstalled. So they added a disable feature to keep it from running in the background and it removed it from your App Drawer.

Being unrooted, you can only disable only certain apps , not all of them.

Taught me something I didn't know. I went through and looked at a few crucial system apps and noticed "Turn Off" was greyed out on a few of them which I hadn't noticed before.
also add
you can also add smart remote, and internet/ chrome depending on what browser you like, to this list that can be completely removed... never understood why people would remove sprint zone when it is the easiest way to do things on your account. To each their own o guess... great list too as there are a few I missed on my debloating adventures.

If you are mostly stock then you need to download sdfix from the market. It is free. Or you can change the build.prop line yourself to write to sd with a file manager of your choice. Idk the build.prop line but you can google it and it will come up. I hope that is your issue and it helps.

the ANT app is actually usefull
for those of us that like to bike/run/hoke or other physical activity in which we monitor our performance or heart rate, ANT radio is a big part of that.
http://www.thisisant.com/directory/ant-radio-service
Might want to investigate this site before removing completely as it uses hardware already on your phone, after all whats the point in getting the phone with all this stuff in it, if you just not going to use it.

Honestly im not sure I can say without consequence. Sometime after I removed a bunch of these apps, I have had some issues with my phone. the screen blacks out while the buttons work. took it to a sprint store finally and they think its 'software related' but didnt really help beyond that.i am still investigating though as it could have been something else too potentially (but i havent really installed much on this phone to begin with outside of root).
i have rooted my GS5 and installed SuperSU and ConnectBot.
I would like to remove much of this bloatware and the automatic updating of certain apps.
I have no idea how to proceed with uninstalling, any help would be appreciated.

Asus Demo
No issues so far...if they come i'll post it here...
everything works well instead of asus launcher i use go launcher.
as i read the asus demo app installs the flashplayer and removes itself after entering the password no need to do that for me couse i use mxplayer and codecs.
Don't delete Asus launcher If you don't have any launcher installed and currently in use, it'll throw your device in to boot loop.
But Asus Demo is safe to delete.
I have the Lollipop .33 version as far as I tried if any app associated with quick settings is deleted, you can't go to Asus Customize settings and change the apps order anymore.
When you press Quick settings options it'll throw you an "Unfortunately, System UI has stopped." error. But apart from that it doesn't effect the system stability.
The .24 doesn't have this problem.
My suggestion is when you have a freshly and fully installed Lollipop .33 and want to delete some apps like Splendid, go to Asus cuatomize settings and change them to your liking first. Then you can safely delete system apps.

Just a heads up, that rotation issue can be resolved by replacing a file that gets removed when Facebook is uninstalled. http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...-screen-rotation-fix-libgnustlshared-t3408140. One additional step I had to do was set permissions for the file to -rw-r--r--

Hey everyone! Post here all the apps that you have successfully frozen, or removed, without any issues. If you know what they are responsible for, post that as well. I will keep this post updated in Alphabetic order!
After a couple days of debloating, messing up the system, and restoring, there are clearly some apps that cause major issues if removed. For example, the Facebook app causes the screen rotation function to permanently break, if it is removed. There is also another app that results in screen rotation breaking, I have yet to identify it, but I suspect it is one of the KNOX-related apps.
*UPDATE* We have some new information folks! I will be doing a very large debloat tomorrow and this thread will get a huge update

Nice thread ?
Hey everyone,
So I compiled this entire list and did it myself. I was doing it in batches. The last portion was after Phase Beam, and that caused an error in the system
"EmergencyManagerService has stopped working"
This causes the error to come up on every reboot, and breaks ultra power saving mode functionality. At this point I am going through them one by one and trying to identify which app breaks this when removed. This may take a while ...

Thanks for the topic/lists @WaterMan! & @kyoji001, I loves some debloating... wait! I... don't care for bloat... Err, both! :silly:
Are you guys using a particular tool for uninstallation or doing so manually? I've used TB with filters in the past but have encountered some (minor, but semi annoying) issues in the past. I had planned on using System App Remover on my next fresh install based on recommendations/friendliness wrt lib files but then an update added a location permission, which set off my sketch alert and put me off of that app.
Ok, this is going to be long... feel free to skim :good: I did an interesting test last night, although I'm still running 5.1.1 (TEKxodus 7.4R2). I had removed about 200 unwanted system apps along with their data via TB a couple of months ago. Like I said, issues were minor and sporadic (mostly various GAPPS fc's). My phone's been running fine, so I didn't bother trying the following until last night, mainly just in the interest of contributing to this discussion, although I can't say yet whether or not this is "safe" on MM... if you think it might be problematic for any reason, please chime in! The steps that I took are here: extracted the system/lib directory from my current ROM's install archive, cut & pasted the entire original system/lib directory into the same directory on the active TB debloated ROM skipping present files and replacing those that were missing/deleted - I skipped subfolders at first then checked my install to see if any of them were missing files which they weren't, next I wiped cache & dalvik in recovery and optimized databases in Synapse (for good measure...), step 4) ????, 5) Profit!(?)
I used Root Explorer to do my lib directory manipulation, and after copying the missing modules, I selected all files in my actual system/lib directories to get a count then did the same in the folder I had extracted which then contained all of the files that were already present and therefor skipped. There were 7 more files in my active lib directory, so it seems that's how many modules my debloating had removed.
I wasn't really sure if/how I'd be able to tell if restoring the modules had any positive effect since the only problems that I had with my phone were so sporadic. I did however run a bench (Antutu) before and after (this morning after the phone had been back on overnight and I had used it a decent amount). The main reason that I was curious about bench scores is that I expected to get higher average scores after debloating, but was surprised that my bench scores stayed exactly where they had been (always somewhere between 68,000 and 69,200. I always screenshot the detailed results with all of the sections expanded (scroll-capture :good: ) after running a bench and jot down any factors or settings that might have some impact on performance on the image before saving it.
Well, it turns out I was... very possibly... right to be suspicious about the lack of an increase in my average bench score. I made sure to use my phone some before testing after my dalvik/cache wipes and such - played a game for a bit, did some web browsing. So after some pretty surprisingly consistent scoring within a pretty narrow range, this morning I hit 72,871(!) with all of the extra points attributed to the (surprisingly, I suppose) 3D tests... some of the other results that I saw in the detailed section were actually a bit lower compared to my test from last night, but all within 500 points of my previous average, i.e. "normal". I'll test again in a week or so or before updating to MM (whichever comes first).
So to wrap this up, I would cautiously recommend this technique for debloating. Summarized: uninstall unwanted system apps however you want, then restore your system/lib directory to it's default install state from the extracted folder from whatever ROM you have installed. Do so at your own risk, of course, particularly if you're on MM. I'll follow the same steps that I posted after doing the update and report back on the results.
Thanks again for this thread and the bloat lists. This type of thread is always a super helpful resource!
The list I compiled is what I personally removed, and tested, using Titanium Backup. No side effects other than the app in question being deleted obviously. I just moved the list around, I have one last chunk of apps to go through. One of these causes the error "emergencyManagerService has stopped" when deleted, and also causes ultra power saving mode to stop working. I will have it done by tonight, and find exactly what app is doing this!

Hey Waterman,
Looking at your list my bet is on something to do with the Launcher. Ultra Power Saving replaces your default launcher with a special BW launcher; I'm thinking that its just a skinned Touchwiz launcher.

I don't know if its worth mentioning in your first post, but the ANT HAL services all have to do with basically fitness wearables. If you use any that aren't BT and remove the ANT+ packages I imagine they will stop functioning.
How do you actually go about removing thsese items?
What are the steps for debloating?
Thanks!
Personally I like some of the Samsung apps & features otherwise I would use a non-Samsung ROM like Resurrection Remix.
I love SHealth and have a Gear VR. I'm surprised if you have a Note 4 and don't use SHealth with its cool heartrate, pulse ox, UV, stress level and other monitoring features. Also think the Samsung photo editor is actually one of the better ones.
Never used CarMode is but it seems like something useful.
Not sure what happens with any of these if you remove Samsung Account and Galaxy Apps I think they may be necessary at least for updates to these apps and for storing the SHealth data.

I used Titanium Backup. There are other apps out there as well, or you can even do it manually.

Yes that is true, and that is exactly what ANT+ does. 99% of people will never use it, I know I personally will not. I haven't yet posted what everything does, but I will. I have been busy and out of town

Again, you may use it, but that's a niche. I would never use any of those features. Note 4 is way too big to work out with, nor would I want to. I have never touched the Photo Editor. Car Mode does nothing practical other than neuter phone functionality when driving. Proceed with caution, and don't delete anything you use.

Galaxy J727p removable debloating list

Putting this here in hopes of helping other J7 perx users pull the most from their battery . Thanks to Ashyx we have root on our device!! Wich makes this possible. Recovery atm is still being worked on so bootloops are no fun, figured id help everyone out, took quite the number of bootloops and several hours to come up with rebooting after every single uninstall to pin point certain apks, hopefully it is useful.
First make a backup with titanium backup!!
(The list does not rob the os of many features, but if theres something here you dont want taken out then simply look over it or restore it)
68-70 apks removed with titanium backup, lets get goin.

Do not remove dictionary.apk or device maintanance.apk, as both result in bootloops. Make sure to run the sd maid app from the playstore afterwards to clean things up!
Also feel free to adventure and add to this list!!
any news my friend about more apps that can be uninstalled?
Note of advice while debloating Stock Oreo ROM for SM-J727P
All the listed apps in here just apply fine except you have to keep in place the native Email and Message apps because if you uninstall any of those the Camera app stop working properly right away https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=77722457&postcount=29

I have an Oreo debloat script in my Spacesung thread. Everything without a # sign in front of it in my script is safe to remove. Additionally, it's also safe to remove Samsung experience, the theme store, and Touchwiz launcher, if you have another launcher to replace it. You can remove google videos as well, I just forgot about it. The native Samsung video player will kick in from the gallery if you do. I prefer it myself.
For those who still rock with this warrior phone.
As of this writing and latest ROM version J727PVPU7BTH1 do not uninstall the included Chrome web browser apk as it would prevent you from signing in to the Play Store account.
