[help] OIS is not working - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i just got my G2, and i took pics in night time with enough lights, and i do notice blurred lines. Is there any settings i can enable for OIS?

Ois is enabled by default. It's not a software thing, it's a hardware feature.
The g2 is horrible at night pictures regardless of the lighting so you hand has to be very calm and steady to take somewhat moderate pictures.

Noise in pictures

I'm wanting to find out if the noise in some of the photos i've taken is normal for the HD2
I expect noise in a camera like this, it's just the nature of having such a small high mega pixel count sensor, I just wanted to find out if what im experiencing is normal. I've got a week left on my 14 days and would like to exchange it if it's not normal
This is probably the worst of them all that I did lastnight
http://twitpic.com/1cs2cl/full Look at the banding noise at the bottom of the frame.
http://twitpic.com/1cs4lj/full This one has some too, but not as bad as the other
http://twitpic.com/1cs50y/full This one looks like it may be a optics problem, look at the red halo around the sykes sign. the 1st time i took the pic i though maybe there was a smudge on the lens so i wiped it and still had the same result
Perfectly normal.
You're taking pictures at night and even standalone digital cameras would struggle to take a decent picture in those conditions.
The Camera will be ramping up the ISO which increases the noise anyway (and as you pointed out coupled to a small sensor just isnt great), the only way to take a decent picture with noise that isnt noticable is to use a tripod, a very small aperture and a very long shutter.
This, being a phone, doesn't have the luxury of that kind of control.
Just take pictures during the day and they are decent enough.
i get it too, including the exceptionally bright flash that usually washes out most photos, just have to live with it im afraid, or fiddle with camera settings, see what happens, but you'd have to constantly change them between night and day....
Thanks, Yeah i expected the noise in pics from the phone. Just the banding was concerning me a little bit.
It actually does pretty good at night in certain situations, there are more pics on my twitpic account from last night that came out ok, very little noise, though a bit more blur. im guessing it probably picked a lower ISO for those.

I have to agree, the camera on the HD2 is outstanding in the daylight, nearly rivals the Sony T33 that ive carried around for a long time for quick snapshots. I just wish they could put a small optical zoom on the camera, even something as small as the 3x optical zoom im used to the with T33. im sure that's asking a bit much with the space constraints within a phone. Im still happy none the less.
The camera in my old Wizard was worthless, i barely ever used it. It was passable outside on a bright day, useless under normal indoor lighting conditions or darker.
Found myself in several situations where i wanted to take a pic but didn't have the T33 on me. HD2 = problem solved =)
I just noticed that there is a TMO USA HD2 specific forum. Since this is about a TMO USA HD2 could one of the mods move this thread over there? Like to see what kind of response i get from other USA version users

Bright spot in corner of Night Mode photos

I'm getting a bright spot in the upper left hand corner of my photos (with the home button to the right) whenever I use the 8M night shot mode. I don't see it when I use 16:9 OR use other photo modes. It looks like as if the exposure is off in the corner. For example, if I take a photo of the moon in the sky, there would be the bright spot of the moon, with a second bright spot in the corner. Is this normal or some software bug?
You mind to upload a photo having the issue?

First two photos are taken using Night Mode with the slight color discoloration in the upper left hand corner, however, the first photo taken in 4:3 shows more discoloration compared to the 16:9 second photo. The last photo is taken with the night mode off for comparison.

I wish, its even worse for some other photos as it throws the color off for more colorful pictures taken at night.
Bright spot
It looks like some sort of internal reflection from inside the camera unit or edge around the lens (either external or internal). If it is then the problem would get worse the longer the exposure of the shot and/or higher ISO.
It explains why the picture with the night mode off isn't as bad as I suspect either the exposure was shorter or the ISO setting lower, hence the change in sensitivity to light.
If it is an internal reflection there's not much you can do about it other than changing/repairing the phone under warranty.

I believe your theory is spot on. As I tried taking a video at a live concert and i would have a glare spot in the exact same spot from the strobe lights. I'm just wondering if this problem is persistent across different units or its just mine before I go for a repair. I don't want to have to buy new screen protectors again.

[Q] Quality of Front Facing Camera

Just recently my front facing camera has gotten really bad and I do not know why. I am going to include two pictures I have taken. The first one is a perfectly normal picture and the second one is crappy as hell, blurry as can be and looks like a webcam from the 90s.
Both pictures quality is 1900x1080 just the quality is drastically different. I recently updated to 4.3 and right after that the quality of the camera was the same as the first picture... hours later I took a picture and its quality mimics that of the second one. Any ideas? It isn't focusing, obviously I'm not zooming. I don't know what the problem is.
Does anyone have the .apk for the camera i could possibly re-install??
Also here is a test i just did. I took a picture with snapchat and I saved the image, this picture is #3.
I then went into the Camera and took a picture again and this is its quality, blurry.
I am definitely starting to think that the camera is bugged.
I have noticed that noise removal kicks in on mine when taken in dim light. The ISO on the front camera is high and I find the pictures are noisy unless taken in bright light and noise removal is only applied if the light is dim enough. The 3rd picture looks quite a bit noisy and it looks like the automatic noise removal was applied to picture 2 and 4.

I have exactly the same problem with the blurred effect. Did you find the solution?

AT&T version low light camera issues?

Hi all. I was wondering if it is user error or maybe a known problem that will require an update. I was snapping pics last night in a poorly lit room for some electronic drums that I am selling and I tried auto mode, wide angle, standard, and manual with all settings on auto and I had to use the pics that I took with my old Nexus 6 becuase the quality of pics from the G6 was soooo poor, really terrible. About the only good results I got were with pop out mode (I may be confused about the name of that mode)
Funny, I was thinking about upgrading my N6 primarily because of the camera but that won't be happening until I figure this out. The G6 is my wifes but I wanted to see how it would perform. The biggest problem was the flash produced an incredible amount of light on the edges or sides of the pics. Really extreme, couldn't be edited out.
Open to suggestions or wondering if this is a known issue.
Thanks

Washed out rear camera

Had my S10+ since launch and hadn't really had any complaints until today.
I was taking some photos indoors and they looked really washed out and lacked sharpness Vs. my girlfriend's pixel 3. Tried with the scene optimiser and HDR on/ off to no avail.
Never had an issue with the camera and I am sure I would have noticed had this happened before.
Wondering if anyone else has had a similar issue noticed this with a recent update?
I also feel the camera quality degraded since july update

Weirdly it seems to be the vivid setting on the display, not the camera itself.
Sent some pictures to myself from another phone in the same lighting setting (bedroom lamp level) and they also looked washed out but didn't on the original phone.
Turned the display to natural and everything looked right!
Weird as everything else is more vivid with 'vivid' turned on, but it seems to wash out low light photos, especially with people in them
