[Q] Unlocked AT&T G2 on MetroPCS tethering? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I'm a complete noob to this stuff so please bear with me. I have an unlocked LG G2 that I use on MetroPCS. So the other day I decided to root it to enable free tethering. Now I have done this before on both a Motorola Photon and a HTC Evo 4G, both sprint, both flashed. They both worked splendidly. However, after I unlocked my G2 and attempted to tether to my laptop, the MetroPCS "we blocked you, you need to upgrade your plan," message popped. I tried to tether to another phone and it worked fine. So the search began to see what was wrong and I tried the SQLite thing where you go to the setting storage and change the number to zero and... nope. Then I tried to change the apn settings and once again, it didnt work. Next up was free tether unlocker, then FoxFi, then PdaNet+ of which none worked. All resulted in my laptop displaying the MetroPCS upgrade your plan message. I'm not sure if I did anything wrong but... please help.

[Q] US Cellular HTC Touch -> Verizon

I acquired a US Cellular Touch, and I would like to get it working on Verizon. I have followed all of the steps in the "How to Flash your Vogue (CDMA Only)" thread (unable to link b/c I'm a new user).
Currently, I have the stock Verizon ROM flashed on there. The bootloader is the custom Coke 2.31, so I can flash any ROM I wish. I have radio version 3.37.78 (the one included in the stock Verizon ROM). I am able to run BAFMSL, and then launch the EPST tool. I believe all I need to do is modify the settings in there for Verizon, but I'm just wondering what they need to be set to? When I dial a *228, it still gets US Cellular. Do I just need to upload a Verizon PRL? Obviously, once it gets switched to Verizon, I'll need to call them and have them activate it on my plan.
My end game is to have it running Android on Verizon, but I wanted to get it switched to Verizon before worrying about the Android stuff.
Yeah, you need Verizon's PRL file to get it to locate Verizons network. Just use Google or look on the forums, I'm pretty sure it's here somewhere.
Thanks for the post. I did aquire a recent PRL for verizon, and it successfully finds their towers. I can call *228, and get the verizon prompt. It fails at the auto-program (both activating and updating). I'm guessing that's because the ESN is not in their system. Any suggestions? I just got off the phone with their customer service, and she said they were unable to because it wasn't a Verizon phone. Has anyone else been able to add a non-verizon phone to their account? Would I have better luck in a store?

Can a Sprint S4 work on verizon with the GSM unlocking methods?

Hello all,
A buddy of mine asked me to help him out with a phone he got for his GF. It is a sprint phone, but they have Verizon. I have been searching high and low, I rooted the phone, supersu, busybox, the usual, used ssu.apk, tried several things, but cant get any progress. The thing is, I havet-mobile, so I only have a sim card, but when I put mine in it, it says "invalid sim", so I am not sure if that just means the phone wont work with tmobile, or I did not do it right. I can't seem to downgrade the baseband either. It current is a 4.4.2, with l720tvpuboa3,, when I try to use odin to put SPH-L720_MDC_Modem.tar.md5 on it, it gives me something along the lines of "secure check fail : mdm" and will not flash it.
I guess the main question, regardless of if I can get it to work with my tmobile sim, is will a Sprint s4 work on Verizon to begin with, before I go and further? If so, what else can I try?
I did some more reading, and installed a verizon rom on the phone, it seems to run just fine, is that all I need to do, and then try and have him add it to his account?
Sorry but a Sprint s4 will not work on Verizon without modifying the MEID. Even then you would need to pull the aa keys from a donor in order to get 1x/3g data.
Unfortunately how to do these things are not supposed to be talked about on XDA anymore.
Yet... A Google search should set you in the right direction.

Turning Hotspot On An Unlocked Rooted S7

I spent a couple of days trying to find a solution for this, but I cannot. So I hope somebody can help.
My phone is rooted an unlocked. It was once a Sprint phone. I have my own MSL code.
Many forums advice that you enter ##DATA# and tweak
APN2LTE internet and APN2 EHRPD and write default, mms, dun.
The problem is that my DATA screen doesn't show APN2LTE internet and APN2 EHRPD
All I see is APN.
When I change the APN TYPE to default, mms, dun nothing happens on reboot.
Another popular advice is that you should edit the build.prop and add
net.tethering.noprovisioning=true
But that fails too.
It's embarrassing that I have a rooted and unlocked phone, but I can not use my phone as a hotspot. I have tried a few apps as well. They fail.
The hotspot option never appears on my Settings.
Does anybody have a solution?

When you say unlocked are you saying that it has the U firmware installed? I believe the U firmware allows hotspot natively.
U firmware
Thank you for replying come up but I do not know what U firmware is. I assume it's a generic firmware for the S7.
My phone was a Sprint phone. It has the model number SM-G935P.
I had a professional root and unlock it. It had the hotspot feature available and I used it. However, about a month later, the phone got into a boot loop, so I had to wipe the phone and restore it. In the process of doing that, the phone lost rooting (but it remained unlocked). I restored the root myself, but was unable to restore the hotspot feature.
I would rather not install another firmware. I am in Africa, and downloading two gigabytes is a real pain. Moreover, I'm worried that it won't work on my S7. Since my phone is rooted and unlocked, it seems that it should not be that hard to make the hotspot feature available, especially since it was available earlier with the same firmware that I used to have. Ideas?

Well if you don't want to go with downloading the firmware then the easiest would be using the app FoxFi. But I believe that if you download and flash the U firmware that it will stay, even after a factory reset. But it's up to you.
Foxfi
Thank you for your advice. I tried the foxfi app and it did not work. Although I could see the network that it creates and apparently connect to it, it would not issue an IP address. So ultimately my other devices could not connect at all.
I really don't want to install a new firmware. I'm worried that it will brick the phone. Are you sure that is compatible with my model of the S7? Where would I obtain the U firmware?
I'm just surprised and a bit stunned that there's not a relatively easy way to reveal the hotspot feature when the phone is rooted and unlocked. I would think that with all the bright developers on this forum, there would be a straightforward solution.
I appreciate your help.

As long as you have the US's Sprint Galaxy with the snapdragon processor then you can flash the U firmware with no problem. Look in the Sprint section for directions, you'll even get updates directly from Samsung and not Sprint anymore. And I know there is a way for Verizon when rooted to get hotspot to work but not sure if it would be the same for Sprint. If that's what you're going for then check the Sprint forums for that as well.
According to this....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-galaxy-s7/help/bloat-free-firmware-930u-tried-t3428974
It only qorks with 930 models. Mine is SM-G935P.
That same thread says " You cannot root this firmware with the Sprint model. "
So I'm still stuck.
I just don't understand why there isn't a simple way to turn on this feature when the phone is rooted.

Are you sure it's rooted? You said you did a factory reset, so unless you rooted it again then you have lost root. And you were looking at the wrong forum, you need to look on the Sprint S7 Edge forum (S7 is the G930 and S7 Edge is the G935) for what you need to do.
you are right. When I reset it, I lost the root. It remained unlocked, for some reason.
However, I was able to root it again by myself. The only thing that I lost was the hotspot.
I'll try another forum here. Thanks!

S8 Active (G892U) - Help Flashing from Sprint to T-Mobile (bootloader v3)

Hoping to get some assistance or maybe even just clarification on this topic...
So, I purchased an unlocked S8 Active with the Sprint branding for use on T-Mobile network. After updating the proper APN settings, I was up and running fine, but wanted to get Wi-Fi calling back, so I flashed over to the latest T-Mobile firmware available at Sammobile - G892USQS3BRG5. Ok, before you say anything, yes, it was stupid to flash a brand new v3 bootloader, but it's done so no going back (to my knowledge). Anyways, flash went fine on Odin 13.3.1, but upon reboot there is the Sprint splashscreen. It even tried to constantly verify the SIM card with the Sprint OMADM app, which I have since uninstalled through adb.
Any chance anyone can provide any insight into this (admittedly minor) issue? I don't really have any major issues other than the aforementioned Wi-Fi calling is gone, and I have to use a third party messaging app due to MMS not playing nicely with the Samsung version. Any help on this would be great, and maybe we can stir up some discussion to help prevent someone else from making the same mistake.
I'm curious where you got the ODIN you used.
I have an S8 Active, but an AT&T version, and need to do the same thing - I want to flash G892USQS3BRG5 onto it for the same reason - WiFi Calling won't work AND I cannot get cell calls when my WiFi is on which has resulted in me missing important calls.
When I tried to flash I got a PIT error using what I think was the same version of Odin (patched).
I'm pretty new at this reflashing stuff so perhaps I did something stupid?
Thanks

LG Stylo 3 Plus M430 from cricket - no tethering

Bought wife a new LG Stylo 3+ from Cricket and had it unlocked. Nice device, but only issues now are tethering doesn't work at all. Not USB or Wifi tethering is possible using their firmware. I get a network authorization error that was due to Crickets device CSC. I found some notes that others have used SQLite on some devices to clear the carrier crippling, and am now able to turn on the tethering, but now I can't open any webpage when connected to the device and mobile data is on.
This oddball, the LG M430 is a tough one to find any type of clean stock firmware, and forget about trying to root it. Any ideas on flashing it with the M450 firmware from T-Mobile, AT&T or Canada's Freedom M470 variant? Thx.
