Few disappointments - X 2014 General

I like the phone a lot and here are few things I'm not happy with.
- extra layer to stop me from tethering. What happened to a "pure edition"?
- two grills yet only one speakers? I cannot believe some people claim this to be as good as or better than m8
- voice command saying opening google??? What happened to good old moto voice?
There are so many things I love about this phone but those three bugs me much at this moment..
Sent from my XT1095 using Tapatalk

I have been tethering on AT&T with my Pure Edition all weekend with no problem. What is this "extra layer" you speak of?

I read dozens of reviews for this phone before I bought it and every single one made sure to point out that the new moto x only had one speaker. I also never saw anyone say it was anything close to as good as the m8 speakers.
Sent from my XT1096 using XDA Free mobile app

It takes me the same amount of presses on the screen to do tethering as my Nexus 4...
Ive never read once that the speakers are better than the M8, just that they are still really good ! In fact the "grill" are there so when you put the smartphone facing down, the screen does not touch the surface
And i dont get the third one

"Opening Google!" Don't like that either.

OOH now i get it, it doesnt happen to me when the device is on spanish, just a notification of "abriendo google search", no "opening google" on my side
But i can see it being annoying if it says it all the time

Nexous One Noise Cancellation technology ( droid incredible does not have it )

After reading all of these reviews on the incredible there is one thing that no one is talking about
the Noise Cancellation technology on the nexous one
I think that it works great but do you
also what do you think about all the talk about the droid and how do you feel that we are not going to own the top of the line phone anymore
I would get the droid but not going to verizon there plans are crazy $$$$$$$

and the touchsensor
btw its Nexus One....
damn, what we gonna do now??? - should I sell my then Nex1 right away....
I can't decide if the nexus noise cancelling works well or not. when I'm talking outside in the wind for example, when the wind blows hard the person on the other end's voice seems to get lowered to almost nothing. now that really shouldn't have anything to do with the second Mic I guess, but I'm still just not sure I can tell if and when its working or not. I guess I just trust that the second Mic is doing its job.
Seems to work, have not had other parties complain when I am outside in the wind and similar situations where normally they will.

lol I always thought the noise cancelling was for talking, not listening. . . meaning, it helped the other person hear you better, in loud areas. I use a bluetooth most of the time, so I guess either way, I'm not getting any benefits from it.

The Droid Incredible only has a better camera, RAM and ROM are the same as the Nexus One (the HTC Desire has more RAM than both incredible and N1)
Edit: My bad, it has a bit more ram than the N1

New touch hardware is also and 8gb of memory in device.
new touch hardware > noise cancellation.. honestly people i call couldn't tell the difference with the noise cancellation, seems like a great idea but in reality not that useful.. maybe unless u're in a place with super high ambient noise..
I'm not sure where I found the article, thinking android central
but apparently the incredible has a much better screen and isn't freaking out with strange multitouch gestures
yes they use some maxtouch based multitouch sensor, which is wayyy better than the one on the nexus apparantly.. Hopefully we can switch out the digitizer somehow to theirs

Community support/Google support > New mildly updated hardware (i don't care about the new screen, don't need it yet).
The Incredible and Evo are nice devices, but I would get bored with the lack of fun.. I wouldn't have ROMs to flash, ports to be anxious about, and all the big developers doing their things along the way. The only devices (Android) with such support are the Dream, Hero, and I also believe the Droid at this point. Along with old HTC/Android phones that I probably don't know of or care about. Maybe the Incredible and Evo will get the same love...
To the best of of my knowledge, the noise cancelling mic is most useful for Speech to Text and speaker phone. It doesn't really cause a noticeable difference other wise. As some one else stated, it you use a headset of any kind, you negate its usefulness entirely.
Personally, I think Inc, Desire, and Nexus are extremely close. I wouldn't abandon one for the other unless there was a major issue I had that would be corrected by the swap.
liquid is by acer.. also you're making the assumption that the incredible won't have the same level of support, which might not be true.

Notice that I said "maybe the Incredible and Evo will get the same love", I only added this simply to prevent others from making the same assumption about my post that you made. Yea, I know nothing of the Liquid, but it seems popular in terms of development.. or something. I don't really think I should care.. or try to be interested.
Noise cancellation is good, tested it in the car once, called the wife and didn't turn the radio off like I would normally, she couldn't tell the difference
about the nexous one
does the new droid have wireless N
our does the nexous one only have it
also the nexous one have the cool charging doc

Echo and static on calls?

Whenever I talk, there is a noticeable echo and static. Holding it away from my face, it stops. Why is this? Is this a hardware issue? Should I take back? It is very annoying. I also have major GPS issues. The phone is perfect otherwise
What ROM-Radio combo do you use? I think thats your problem. Try searching in the ROM thread. Good luck!

Did you successfully install the service update (DH12)? Maybe it's just a placebo effect, but I feel like voice quality improved.
If you're rooted, try the unsigned version that namebrandon posted. Otherwise, wait for the prompt from Verizon on your phone and--this is important--install via 3G, NOT Wifi.

This is the Fascinate, not the Vibrant. We don't have ROMs. I'm only rooted. The baseband ends in D101 which is the recent update.

I got this phone at BB from the Free Phone Friday promo. As soon as it turned on it prompted the D101 update, over 3G.
Oh, okay. Yeah, you have the latest build D01 (not what I mistakenly wrote above).
Hrmph, not sure what to tell you. I get some reverb and the overall voice quality is just par for Verizon, but I definitely don't get any static...
Supposedly the voice quality on Motorola's Droid X and Droid 2 are both dreamy, but they have other issues (locked bootloader, froyo update issues). Unfortunately, there isn't really a single Verizon device that does everything perfectly at the moment, so you'll have to compromise. Maybe other folks on here will have something more useful to tell you. Good luck!

I definitely don't wanna switch to a different device. The CPU, GPU, and screen are amazing. This static is just annoying. My Droid definitely had the best call and speaker quality I've ever heard on all ends, and the Incredible comes pretty close.
Sounds like you have a defective handset... Definitely not a typical thing.

I've had same issue. Seems like certain frequencies cause kazoo effect or ripped speaker sound plus dimly hearing my own voice in the same manor. I've had it 8 days I think I'm gonna exchange it. And per vzw forum *228 did nothing.
in call volume only 50%.
good day.
Off topic: Will they swap the sd during exchange or should I copy stuff to computer?
I have found that holding the phone more horizontally makes this stop compared to holding it more up and down like. Make sense?

Maybe my voice's frequency causes it I would just copy the SD card to be safe. I think I will return as well.

I do understand that. I have felt the mic is not padded to the proper db level on this device. But the buzzing sound also occurs while listening to someone else talk on a land line. Never heard it like this on any other device.
Copying now.
good day.
Let's see: I have this issue, the GPS issue, my volume rocker rattles, which is a defect according to another thread, and my power button sticks and doesn't always work(especially when trying to turn the device on.) Return? Oh, and the 4 buttons on the front(especially the home one) have response issues. It is especially hard to pull up the multitask menu without accidentally going to the homescreen because it didn't respond right.
Problem Solved and very pleasantly...
Alright, so I was not crazy. There was something wrong with my ear piece on my device. Went to the vzw store last night signed into the kiosk and that gave me about 25 minutes of waiting which was perfectly fine. I first went to a fascinate on display and dialed *611 and listened to the chick say "welcome to verizon wireless" and holy crap it has bass and didn't buzz like a kazoo. Dialed *611 on my device and there it is, the sound that has plagued me for a week. I spied another fascinate on display and did *611 again and there it was full sounding with no buzz. Now I have confidence that I am not crazy and I am not being picky. Being very new to android and falling in love with the fascinate upon seeing and holding it in the store the first time a couple of weeks ago. So now I have some android knowledge and I had a chance to compare the vzw android line up. Keep in mind I came from a omnia i910 that served me well for almost 2 years and when vzw would release a new device I would stop in and spend 5 or 10 minutes with a hot device. Nothing ever said BUY ME like the fascinate did. But after having the fascinate for a week all the devices I laid my hands on just felt archaic and boring. So that completely eliminated the "I wonder what that device would be like thought". So my name was called and I explained my situation. He then exchanged it without mention of the $35 return or exchange fee which I was not charged for and gave me a new pack of protectors that I did not ask of, for free as well. The most interesting part of the whole experience was watching him remove way more plastic from the device that was not on my original one. And then he took the battery out of the PLASTIC. Awesome I'm getting a virgin device, the first one I got the battery was oddly in the device when she took it out of the box for programming. All my calls today were very pleasant and normal sounding. My store experience was great. Kudos to the Big Red.
good day.
Nice! Glad to hear about your happy ending

the negatives of the One

all i have been reading is how great the phone is . even i love the HTC One but im sure that the phone has some negative aspects as well. i request the users of the HTC One to please point out the negative aspects of the phone if any ...
The lockscreen button since the phone it's so long you have to re arrange your hand sometimes . That's about it for me
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
Who wants to hear about the negatives? If you like the phone then get it. If you dont like the phone then dont get it. Each phone will have different negatives per user. The guy above me dosent like the lockscreen button... but I may love it. Each negative (aside from visual/hardware defects) are going to be subjective.
My negative: no option for wireless charging.
Probably best nipping over to the Samsung forums for a better researched and comprehensive list to be honest. There's a few of them in here which I think is testament to our friendliness, we welcome anybody, even though they are less fortunate than ourselves .
Honest answer? Coupla minor niggles with gaps and bit of annoyance with the sensitivity of the back & home buttons for some but the awesomeness of the phone and recent 1.29 update seem to have cured these. Get one and enjoy it... jeez, I ought to be on commission!
It's screen is too bright until you flash a auto brightness mod for low light. The mic is almost to sensitive for video recording betting that is why we are seeing some problems with hiss in calls and videos. HTC in their infinte wisdom decided we only needed two buttons LIKE WTF!!! We can fix soon as it has been confirmed that the HTC logo will act as whatever we tell it to The camera isn't perfect yet which I will bet will take quite a few months of software updates (not saying it's bad just expect it to get much better) It will run hot no way around this but a case as aluminum is a excellent heat conductor. Battery life isn't like the end all be all it does not last 5 days or even 20 hours with the screen on

My apologies. No heat issues for me on either of ours, no wifi dropouts so far, bit of a niggle with the initial set up with my BT Parrot kit for the car but all sorted now. Only wish the lowest volume could be a little lower! aside from the minor niggles mentioned earlier, best phone by a long shot for me so far. I have used Apple products through work in the past and am currently running a work Blackberry too but this is absolutely my phone of choice for personal use. It just... does what it's meant to, quickly and without fuss. Hope this helps and again, sorry for the misjudged initial reply.:highfive:

Ok here's one. Because of the HTC One a negativity thread has opened...
Most posts here will be biased as you are asking for a one sided story here. Im not sure if you have one but if you are going to get one make sure you weigh the pluses too. Like I've just released a ROM and I'm Taylor Swift. So there's two pluses there

No need to apologize . .. I wanted to buy the One for my Brother so just wanted to know more about the phone ... Just wanted to know about the various issues people have been talking about ie. the gaps , crackling sound in the speakers , heat issues etc... I really hope that the HTC One sells really well .... Its one of the best Phones ever made... Period.
I find that the back and home buttons are not sensitive enough.
One that sticks out for me and it's really more with Sense 5 than the phone is on the lock screen the play/pause button is too big. Often when I want to go to the next track I'll hit that by accident instead. That and the phone heating up a bit sometimes are so far my two minor gripes.
I am coming from an SGSII running the latest AOKP. Here are a few of the annoyances I've noticed.
- Slow charging compared to most phones
- The large size makes hitting the lock button somewhat awkward at times. I much preferred the right side lock, left side volume of the SGSII.
- Vibrates too hard. I know this might sound like a strange criticism but its annoying when you're in class and your phone sounds like it's about to rattle off of the desk. Hoping there will be a mod in the near future to reduce intensity.
- The charging light, when green, is actually pretty ****ing annoying to look at. It's behind the speaker on top and is a small LED. It's very very bright when you look at it directly and annoying when you're trying to use your phone and charge it at the same time.
There are many minor things with Sense UI compared to AOKP, but that isn't really a fair criticism when I knew what I was getting into. There are very few bugs though, and it's nice coming from a ROM where there were always a few lurking issues that couldn't be fixed without source. Still very happy with the phone though.
Vibrates too hard? Then it's perfect for me. I've lost count on how many calls I've missed when I couldn't feel Xperia S vibrating in my pocket.

Give it some time.... after the initial scramble to get the first Ones by the fanboys, the general masses will come out in larger numbers to buy the phone, and they won't be so loving and biased.
So.. In a couple of months, we will see how great or not great this phone is as more unbiased temperaments make their opinions known.

Gotta say I'm loving this phone..more than my old s4 and HTC one!!

I am a very picky phone owner, let me just say that right away. I always have a different phone cause I need to have the latest and greatest. After having the moto x I truly feel as if this is the best overall phone out right now for me.
The s4 was just too damn big and I felt like I always need to use both hands to do anything. Sure the camera was nice but it my daily use its not as big a difference as people make it out too be. Battery was OK, but my x is way better!!
The htc one def has the nicest screen out. But unless your staring at both of these phones side by side the difference is negligible. The camera on the one was absolutely horrible no matter what the conditions! Blurry and over processed colors. Battery life was good but again the x is way better.
I think that overall for what I use the phone for, the x is gonna be with me for a while. I love the size!!! Feel perfect, a good size screen and yet I don't need two hands to always use it. The active notifications are awesome!! Screen is good for me, I'm not one to purposely stare at the screen to try and see if I can see pixels etc. Battery life is awesome, I'm easily getting 4+ hours of screen on time. The camera is not nearly as bad as most reviews report, in my findings. Yes the s4 is better but the moto x holds its own!
I'd like more dev support cause I'm a crackflasher. I'm sure it will come. But if it doesn't happen I'm OK with it because the phone is pretty much the way I'd want a ROM to be anyways.
^^^^ i agree
^^^^^^ I agree x2
As someone who was a hardcore flashaholic this is the first phone I've had that I don't feel the need to immediately load a new ROM onto.
Agreed - I've had tons of android phones (G1, G2, evo and evo 3d, moto backflip, droid and droid 3, galaxy S2, nexus 1, nexus S, gnex, and even the kyocera echo), but once I went to an iphone 5, I swore I'd never go back.
Once ios7 was out though, android started looking more appealing to me again. Moto X is the phone that brought me back! I've gone to the store multiple times to play with the GS4 and the HTC one, but I could never pull the trigger.
The Moto X is the phone that brought me back to android. I love it

I'm glad I'm not the only one. MOTO X is nice.
This phone with a few tweaks with Xposed is really really great. Battery is stellar. The camera is not the best however once the software is fixed it will be fine. The only thing I'm missing is t9 dialer. I'll find a way to push the CM apk.

I agree. I also tend to always have the latest and greatest and waffle between ios and android. Most recently I came from the HTC One Developer Edition and although I really liked that phone the Moto X is much better for me. The ergonomics are just great, not much bigger than an iphone 5, and the battery is very good. The active notifications are just brilliant and with them I rarely need to use the power button, just a quick swipe and I'm were I need to be. Killer phone.
Agreed. I had the HTC One and then the GS4 Active shortly after that and now I have the Moto X. This thing runs circles around both those phones in every regard. Don't miss a single thing about either of them.

Im also very picky in how I like my phone look and function both hardware/software. im still waiting for my moto x to get unlocked But so far I still need a new ROM.
Need to remove att garbage
Need quick toggles to be customizable. Add WiFi tethering/ flashlight etc. Also don't like how single click takes you to the menu on a specific toggle instead holding it toggles the feature.
Would like paranoid ROM, halo is a nice feature I got used to on my nexus 4
Id settle for quick toggles fix and halo (not that I have a choice) STOP SAYING YOU DONT NEED ROMS!!
That being said I like how minimalistic (ROM) Motorola is now and see myself buying more of their devices. Personally hate Samsung galaxy series. There is no need for a physical buttons on screen is the way to go.
Hope the moto x gets some good people working on Roms. I love the size of this phone and really want to stop jumping from phone to phone chasing that perfect combination. But my guess is the grass will always seems to be greener on the other side......nexus 5.

The icons and fonts are much smaller than a s4 screen. Especially when you factor in the on screen buttons the actual usable screen is much less than than I was expecting. In fact I am not to sure if it is much bigger than my iPhone 5.

After soft bricking my GS4, I had to get a new phone while i work on that. I had been eyeing the Moto X and it was cheap. But now that i have been playing with it for a few days, its great. For me the Software is great, I love the voice commands, coming from an iphone i sorely missed siri and I feel that Moto X realy handles this better then the GS4.
As for hardware, I miss my GS4. The bigger screen was nice, and I loved the IR blaster.
If I could get the Moto X Rom on to the GS4 ( after I unbrick it) that would be ideal.
I've been looking at this phone but the fact is Nexus 5 will be a better device in terms of hardware, software and future updates.
Also I love the people here saying this is the best phone they've ever used. I think they copy paste that from their post on their prior phones.
I'm sure moto x is a great phone but its momentary. When you get your next phone that'll be the best one yet.
Prove me wrong, keep your moto x for 1 year and I'll be impressed. Doubt many of you in this forum will do that.

Coming from the Note 2 (and about every phone before that) I'm happy with my decision.
Something definitely feels off the first two days transitioning from the Note 2. Then I realized what it is: I'm not holding a mini-tablet anymore.

My Moto X impression so far

This isn't so much for the people who have the phone, but I know a lot of people looking to buy the phone will read the reviews and visit general forum, so here it is:
What I love about it:
Touchless Control -- definitely put those iPhone 5s users in their place when they show off their fingerprint unlock. "Hey Google Now" gets recognized instantly, anywhere, and at almost any volume. I was explain it to someone about this feature in a noisy hallway with him holding my phone, and I was not even loud, and my phone woke up and started listening. Now I whisper it just to see it can hear me, and get super giddy and freaked out at the same time when it does...
Active Notification -- yeah yeah, I know you can download an app for it, but moto X's implementation is by far the best. It knows what you are doing. In the pocket? No problem. Out of the pocket, wake up right away. I don't even bother using the power button anymore. I just nudge the phone a bit when it's sitting on my desk, and the screen comes on. It's a beautiful thing, especially after switching from HTC One, and the One Mini, when the power button was so damn awkward to reach. Or you know, you can just wake it up by talking to it... Just say: open Gmail! and BOOM. It's there.
Assist -- again, Motorola got it right. This is how to make a rom. Assist has completely made my tasker useless... I was using tasker to silence my phone during appointments, at night, and play music and reply messages when I'm driving, now Moto X does all this, with minimal setup. I just let it do its thing, and it has gotten it right almost all the time. It also read your text messages when you are driving, which is pretty awesome.
What I dislike:
My biggest gripe... What is up with the vibration? It feels so mechanical and clunky, as if there is a robot squirrel in the phone grinding two titanium nuts together in its mouth to make the vibration. The long duration vibration is almost unbearable. C'mon Motorola, why would you skimp on something so important and basic?
The screen -- it's a decent screen, but after using the One, I would have to say it is nowhere near top notch. If a beautiful screen is a MUST for you, skip this phone. It's usable, but hardly from beautiful. When it's dim, I could almost see a hue of purple on everything. Pentile displays, I'm telling yah. The screen looks like my old GNex. I eventually liked my GNex because of the custom kernal could make the screen almost really really good, but on the Moto X, which leads to my last gripe...
The bootloader -- all you TMo and Rogers people are damn lucky. I really don't mind the bootloader so much, but I just want to root my phone. I know another root method will eventually come along, but man, Verizon and AT&T are making it difficult. Why do I want to root my phone? Well I happen to enjoy the Xposed framework and have been using it on almost all my other phones. It has completely replaced Rom flashing for me. I want my screen rotation in the quick setting menu damn it, is that too much to ask?
Well that's it. If you don't like to mess around your phone and can live with a robot squirrel and mediocre screen, this phone is for you...
For the owners of Moto X.. How are you feeling about the vibration and the screen? Any cool app or anything that doesn't require root to make the moto X experience better?
personally I like the vibration because it's easy for me to feel it on vibrate while I'm at work. And the screen looks just the same as the S4 I had to me, but some notice screens more than me. I agree with active notifications and all, and I love the twist motion to launch the camera. Only thing I don't like is how locked down it is. (Verizon). And the camera isn't great, so far I don't find the update to have helped too much
I feel like I either have absolutely no high expectations for vibration, or I have the only Moto X that vibrates normally. I haven't noticed any rattling on mine, and it's a really strong vibration. I like it.

Just so we remain accurate, the screen on the Moto X is not PenTile, but uses the same array as the Galaxy Note 2 from Samsung. Infact, Samsung is the one that makes the screen on the Moto X.

yeah i'm on my third, too. the first two had minor issues besides the vibration. the vibration was different on all 3, and seemed to get worse as i went along. looking back, i should have not nitpicked and just kept the first because it was nice and tight--none of this loud and rattley/loose nonsense that i have on the latest one, but hindsight is 20/20 i guess. 2 gsm dev editions and then an at&t that i have now, in case anyone's wondering. i saved over $300 getting a used at&t on this latest one.. at least that's how i'm justifying the imperfections this go-around.
So surprised you dont like the screen in comparison with the HTC One. I have both (got a Moto X after the One - which I was besotted with), the Moto X has darker blacks and deeper colours, I easily prefer it over the One. The one looks washed out in comparison - which I was really surprised about as I love the One screen.
Irky things
I have the VZW DEV edition. For the most part everything works great. I have issues where Music from Google Play over my blue tooth head set gets choppy when I'm active (walking, or moving about). My dialer quit suggest contact names when I'm dialing a number and telling me who's calling on incoming calls from contacts. It doesn't recognize my Motorola docks and if I have daydreamer mode set to run when connected to a charger or dock, it doesn't. I'm pretty disappointed with my $650 phone since my Bionic worked great in all these areas.

it doesn't sound like it, but if you think these are manufacturing issues with your particular phone, i've found that motorola customer service has no problem issuing a RMA for you.. i think you could do this anyway as long as it's within the window. their customer service people are a joke with trying to evaluate and fix the issue but they did refund my two GSM dev editions (one with bootloader unlocked). you could always try another one, and even return that and get back on the bionic until something else pops up. why they won't do straight up exchanges i have no idea. they lost my money when i bought a used AT&T the third time around.
however, for all its issues, this is probably my favorite phone ever.
To me the MotoX would be my only option if I went Android.
Main reasons:
- I really appreciate one-handed operation : The MotoX is just a little bit bigger than an iPhone 5 while having a much bigger screen. That makes it easy to reach both the top and bottom of the screen without having to shift my hand around every time to do so.
- The MotoX brought about a new, long-term, game changing feature (Always On Assistant) : It's not easy to bring about a Star Trek like feature which is actually really useful without killing the battery life. Motorola was the only phone to be able to accomplish this. Before the MotoX everyone thought that an always listening voice assistant would kill the battery life. This feature (along with TouchID on the 5s) are not given enough credit for their long term impact on the smartphone realm.
- Motorola was finally the first Android manufacturer to stop being whores to the spec war games : So many times I see android manufacturers cram in whatever specs they can to cater to the stat geeks, without any real thought as to what is actually needed. Motorola was finally the first to stop and ask "Hey, is a 1080p screen really needed over a 720p screen when the non-ocd consumer can't tell the difference anyways? All it really does is kill battery life!"
- I love the fact that the MotoX is assembled in the U.S. : The fact that Motorola took the profit hit to bring assembling jobs to America is a huge plus in my opinion. They could have simply lined their pockets further by having it assembled in China or wherever but they didn't. By doing this they also ensured that American customers would get a quick delivery when ordering online. A company that is willing to forgo extra profits in order to help the U.S. economy gets an A+ in my book.
- Near stock version of android : The skins that LG, HTC, and Samsung throw on their phones are cluttered and disgusting IMO. Not only that but having a manufacturers skin cluttered all over your handset makes it that much harder for them to put it on newer versions of android that come in the future. With the MotoX having a near stock version of android you know that the phone you are getting is clean but will also get future updates much quicker than other skinned handsets would.
- Active notifications look awesome : Instead of a random blinking LED (which is not always present on other handsets anyways) you get active notifications which only come up when the phone senses you are looking at it. Why doesn't everyone have this?
Other, more minor reasons:
- I like that Motorola gives the consumer choices : Even though I would get an all black version (with the back being woven), I still appreciate that Motorola would be the first android manufacturer to give the customer a real choice on colors.
- I really like Moto Skip : Being able to skip past my lock screen is a really convenient time saving feature when you have a long, secure password which I also really appreciate on the 5s with touch ID.
Sounds like a decent chunk of you guys had an HTC one before the x.... Why did you make the jump? Im contemplating that very move (currently have a one)
Moto X only looks like pure android. I'm willing to bet that they have made tons of changes under the hood. This is why this phone may never get advice development. Good thing it's heavily optimized. Makes me wonder if it will be a 2 year phone.

indeed. whatever happened to 'building the x in the usa means fixing production issues much quicker.'
I only miss root for two things:
1) center clock
2) greenify

Do you actually use the twist-motion for the camera often? Or do you find it too clunky, like what people were saying in comments when the feature was announced?

I actually use it every time I launch the camera. Also I take a lot of pics while driving (bad habit yes), but I go past a classic car lot frequently and take pics sometimes of a new 60's muscle car they might have. I would hate going back to anything else

I'm the complete opposite. I even use the twist gesture as a quick way to get into my camera gallery.
I've had a problem that's made me lose some great pics of my daughter. Sometimes when I activate using the twist motion, snap a pic, then go to look at it later, it's not in gallery. I've replicated it a few times. Stock and newest update. Not sure what the deal is there.
All in all: amazing phone. Love it.
