[Q] Google Now launcher? No NOW tiles - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys I just redid my nexus 7, just stock OS android as before.
I tried reinstalling the google now launcher as I actually do like it but for some reason its not working. I cant swipe all the way left to get my tiles anymore. I could pre format.
Prior it said I needed a new version of google search and installed it but it still doesnt work.
Tried re installing NOW launcher
Tried force stopping and clearing caches.
Multiple reboots
different launcher then going back
etc etc
Anyone else ever see this?
thanks

Hi, tevil...
Try this....
In Google Now Launcher, LONG PRESS anywhere on one of the home screens.
All of the home screens will slightly recede into the background, and three options will appear at the bottom of the screen.... WALLPAPERS - WIDGETS - SETTINGS.
Tap on SETTINGS... you should see a 'Google Now' OFF/ON slider control at the top.
Slide it to the ON position.
Hope this helps.

Ged.

[Q] Missing Icons on Desktop

Ever since I upgraded to ICS 4.0.3. When my tablet goes to sleep and I turn it back on all the Icons on the desktop are missing. The funny part is if I touch the screen in the location where the app Icons would normally be it launches the APP. If I do a soft reset and wait for it to power back on the Icons are there. I can still run apps if there are in the task manager when I press and hold the home button. I am running Acer_AV041_A500_1.033.00_PA_CUST1 w/ root. Any help woud be greatly appreciated

Are you running default launcher or third party launcher?
Sent from my A500 using Tapatalk 2
I've had that too on Civato's rooted stock (the one with original odex) using stock launcher (full wipe before installing). It looks like the launcher crashes. If you manage to enter settings and go to apps and kill the launcher it will return back to normal for some time.
I've never seen this error on trebuchet launcher in CM9.
So far I've got this on every ICS bootloader/ROM combo that I have tried. It all started after I flashed the v7 bootloader. I have only tried Civato's Roms other than stock. Mine usually happens during playing 3D games and a lot of the times the screen is flashing like crazy. When I (finally) get to the desktop, I have the same issue as you. No icons visible. But they are still there and can be touched to launch them. I have completed a full wipe, data\media and all. I mean totally erased all data from the tab. Went back to full stock 3.1. OTA'd all the way to ICS and so far I've only seen the issue once. Where by this time with the unlocked bootloader/ROM combo it would have done it many, many times.
I want to believe that it is a hardware issue so I can return it while the warranty is still good. But until I am more sure I am just going to Flash a few more different bootloader/ROMs and see if it helps. While it stinks to have this issue, it is really great to have all of these options for flashing. Makes me happy I chose this tablet.

Just try installing different launcher to replace original.
Missing Icons
I am using the default launcher. Thanks for the tip. The next time it happens It will try killing the launcher from the settings apps. I have downloaded another launcher to try

Thanks man. I'll go back to the worst offender. One was much worse than the rest and I have a full nandroid of it. I'll reload it and add a new launcher this weekend and report back. Still running stock and the issue is much better, but with the JB port incoming I'm definitely going to need the patched bootloader.

Launcher Crash

I've been having problems for a while now, but the issue is that all the apps and widgets disappear from my home screen. It happens when I go to my screen with my email, browser, and calendar widgets on it. If I try to swipe to another screen, the widgets stay where they are and flash, but nothing from the next screen appears. The problem persists when I lock and unlock the tablet. If I rotate the screen, the apps and widgets go away, but my wallpaper remains. I can still press the buttons on the status bar and switch to different apps, but can't open new ones unless I open acer ring and search for them, or open them through settings. I did a bit of poking around and all I've determined the issue is a result of the Launcher crashing. If I do a force stop in settings and then return home, everything is back to normal, unless I go to the page with the widgets on it then i'm screwed again.
Any help?
Running RE-FLEXxx Rev 4 and V8 BL, but I noticed problems after updating to the ICS bootloader.
Have you tried other launchers? Nova is a good option. I use GoLauncherHD for tabs. Try a different launcher and see if it makes a difference.
Went with GoLauncher. I tried it a while ago and liked it, but reverted once I started using more roms. Seems to be working well so far, but I'd still like to know what the original issue was. Or a solution.
Welcome to the club.
Well, you're not the only one. It seems to be an issue with the ICS bootloader (Any flavor. Modified or stock.). If it gets too annoying you can remove scrollable widgets like the gmail and browser widget from your home and that will help. It's quite rare from what I understand. Not many people are having the problem besides a few of us. I think the solution will have to come from Acer... if it comes at all. What would be nice is if there was a searchable term for this. It really needs an acronym... SOF (screen of flashiness) maybe??? Anybody?
Problem persists with go launcher, although the flashiness is much more... interesting. Is FOD taken? Gotta have death in there somewhere.
I like "LOD"... Launcher of Death.
Welcome to third party launchers for tablets
Do you have any idea where the issue is? Is it in the launcher, or is it just the one that gets screwed up? And how does the boot loader effect the way it runs?
That's a very good question. How the hell can a bootloader affect a rom? I've read in several places that the trebuchet launcher had the bug...but since you're saying it happened on GoLauncher, then that throws that out the window. I'm running the JB rom and it works great. It's my DD now. Some games don't work, but who cares...lol.
Is there an easy way to make an widget that will force stop launcher? That'd be less annoying than opening settings and doing the whole process there.
Haha just realized when the launcher doesn't work, a widget is useless...
I wish that I had answers. Here is what I know about this. Launchers don't matter much. Every rom that I've tried when used with an ICS bootloader does this regardless of launcher. Every rom that uses the HC bootloader does not. Even the Flexreaper versions of ICS on the HC bootloader do not have this. It is very likely that I am just missing something more practical and am off base by pointing at the bootloader. But so far it has been the only switch that has worked for me. It does seem like 3d apps and advanced rendered widgets are part of the blame. I took a few logcats when this happened. I think I see where the errors happen, but I don't know enough to say for sure, let alone try to fix whatever it is.
My Gmail app does a similar flashing thing then crashes, but launcher still works. Play Music will also go blank/black. Anyone else having this problem or know if they're related?
(I know, 2012.... but nobody posted a solution and I found it.)
Solution was pretty simple. Go to Launcher in App settings, and wipe stored data,. You will lose some setup stuff but in least it won't crash anymore.

[Q] Nightly Pac Man Rom Build with Trebuchet issue

I am running pac_scorpionmini-nightly-20131017. For the last few nightly builds, starting a couple of builds before the few days of failed builds, I have been having an issue with trebuchet. When I go to my home screen, all of the icons and widget disappear. I go to recent apps and clear trebuchet and then press home again and everything shows back up. I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing this?

It sounds like you're getting a conflict with another launcher. It seems like a different launcher is trying to work when you press the home button. I would go into Trebuchet settings and make it your default launcher. I would also use TiBU to freeze any other launchers that might be included in the ROM.

I had a launcher for my Car Home Ultra app. I removed the defaults for it. My issue has improved but instead of closing trebuchet and pressing the home button again I can now go to the apps menu and back to home and everything shows back up. I may do a factory wipe to see if that helps. As far as I can tell there are no other launchers except the one I mentioned.
Thanks for the help.

Yeah, Same problem here. I went to the trebuchet settings and ticked "Hide icon labels" and this stopped the problem but I'm not sure if it for sure works or if i managed to get lucky enough for the icons to not disappear Thats all i know to do to fix this, Hopefully someone will find a a REAL solution!

Help! Live Wallpaper Picker cannot be launched - stock ROM

After a reboot I could no longer select any live wallpaper anymore all of a sudden. I have tried clearing cache and removing all data associated with the Live Wallpaper Picker but nothing has worked! Every time I am getting "Unfortunately the Live Wallpaper picker has stopped" when picking a previously installed live paper. This is VERY frustrating. I am running stock ROM rooted and have re-enabled all previously disabled apps and have unstalled greenify as well just in case. Have rebooted a few times and has not worked.
What I could remember doing was trying to clear all icons from the stock Touchwiz launcher as I am trialling other launchers. Would I have accidentally deleted some vital shortcuts? Removing the shortcuts does not remove the apps themselves, however.
I'm at a lost at what to do and really would prefer having to do a hard reset if possible. It has taken me 2 weeks to set up my Note 3 almost perfectly .....
UPDATE: I just found that I could still load Live Wallpapers IF I return back to touchwiz and set wallpaper via the menu (left) button. However I am still unable to set Live Wallpapers normally via the settings menu - the picker always crashes....
Any advice would be highly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

you could try this go to google play download any live wallpaper ,when downloaded press open and see what happens
tried already. The wallpaper picker will crash just like before. The only way is to get back to Touchwiz interface and use the menu button to set wallpaper. That way I can still select the custom wallpaper. This only occurred AFTER I went to Touchwiz and cleared up all the useless icons from the apps....I must have stuffed up something in TW...

I am too scared to replace the stock apk if its still working via touchwiz. At least it still works. I have probably broken something when i deleted off all the shortcuts in the TW desktop.

I get this as well, in Nova, LWP crashes. If I load Touchwiz Home, it works fine. Kind of irritating to swap launchers just to change the LWP settings.

Thanks for posting this, hadn't thought to try setting the live wallpaper from tw home. I had touchwiz home frozen with TB. Unfroze it, set the live wallpaper from tw home, and live wallpaper is back in Nova. It wasn't enough to merely unfreeze tw home, I had to set the live wallpaper from there too.

I have touchwiz running, simple and easy and I swapped between them, but the live wallpaper still crashes. Even after putting the .apk in the system/app folder and changing the permissions, etc. I'm running Sacs rom on an S4.
Unfortunately Live Wallpaper Picker has stopped - Fix
1. Backup and Uninstall the system
[Live Wallaper Picker]
{livewallpaperspicker.apk}
ONLY (NOT livewallpapers.apk) with [Lucky Patcher](you need to enable system files in Lucky Patcher) or some other App like that (you don't need to uninstall any already installed live wallpapers).
2. Download many livewallpaperspicker.apk you can find all over the internet for different Android versions(doesn't matter even if the version is not specified, download anything you can). (btw, I am using a LiveWallpapersPicker.apk by cycloneblast which I found in another thread. I've no idea what version it targets)
3. Install the livewallpaperspicker.apk for the Android version you are running.
4. If it still says unfortunately live wallpaper picker... then Install other versions and test them(you don't need to restart your device).
5. If still not working, then remove odex file of the Live Wallpaper Picker with Lucky Patcher and then repeat steps 3 and 4.
6. If STILL not working then remove corpses with [SD Maid](you need to enable system files in it's settings first which is usually turned off when you install it). WARNING: Use at your own RISK.
Hi. I have outlined the fix for this in my video on youtube here: youtubeDOTcom/watch?v=7DlTBr8r2Ws

Problem with third party launcher?

Is anyone experiencing this with a third party launcher, Nova launcher to be exact?
When I click the multi-task button (say, to adjust the brightness), I can't get back directly to the Home screen. If I press the Home or Back key, it takes me to the last app I was using (even when I came from the Home screen).
I went back to the Stock launcher and did not have this issue.
Anyone know what's going on and how to fix it?

Hello, you are not alone. I have experience the same thing. I submit the feedback to leeco and they cannot reproduce the problem you and I have. I even attached the video and show it to them. Still nothing. Are you also experience red screen when power to turn off the screen? You can see it on light background or app is running in front of you. Just wondering. Take a look at this thread I have talk to le engineer about this. http://bug.letv.com/us/ue/feedback/detail/A20165FC11YTC20

Yes, it was weird at first. Now it is fine. I still have problem with nova. Take a look in this thread I post. http://forum.xda-developers.com/le-pro3/how-to/leeco-le-pro-3-red-screen-occur-t3511080 I attached the slow motion video zip in there, you will see what I am talking about.

I did this and the uninstall button is still grayed out. I even set the launcher back to the Stock one.
I went to the Play store and try to uninstall from there, but instead of Uninstall button, I see a Deactivate. I clicked on it and it says "Nova is a Device Admin and must be deactivated before it can be uninstalled". Any idea on how I can deactivate it?
Nevermind, I found it.

Guys, he has given the solution long ago. Make sure Nova is being able to run in the background. Disable it on the app protection list and this problem should go away.
Nova Launcher 5.0 breaking recent apps
Updated to Nova Launcher 5.0 (released Dec 13) and it looks like the launcher is now disappearing from the Recent Apps menu again on the Pro3. Did the usual setting checks - enable run in background, disable app cleaning, uninstall/reinstall Nova, reboot etc.
Checking if anyone else has this problem and if there's any new Nova settings that might cause this.
Thanks.

Having the same issue after update Nova Launcher 5.0 and rebooted. But also face this issue since beta version. I this happen only the EUI rom because on CM13 its working fine without any issue. Im using X720 on TARS 5.9.20S rom.

At previous version i didn't notice trouble. On 5.0 I notice. Try to solve.
I notice the difference when looking at recent apps but I don't have any issues with Nova working properly.
