For those thinking of switching to note 4.. Srs - G3 General

I just went to my local tmobzsz and used the note 4, i have the g3 on zone rom with skydragon kernel so bare(bear? Idfk lol) with me.. I was really expecting a lot since it was a amoled 2k screen.
I turned it on and went straight to display settings and put the most vivid color settings it had and to my surprise my g3 colors were wayyy more to my liking (skydragon has a different color setting, colors really pop and my g3 has no tint, my girlfriends does tho) but yea my color settings are basically in the middle of the gallery icon in accessibility settings and i was really shocked to see how faded they were on the note and its not like my colors are crazy saturated to where everything looks weird but theyre amazing to me. Im really glad i went with the g3, the 805 makes no difference to me, i have greenify with no lag, and i used to game a lot on my phone but realised no matter what, if a game is high end, a small screen doesnt cut it.. our screen is sharper(ppi makes a difference) and the colors on skydragon are more vivid. Amoled always looked cartoonish to me aswell but thats my 2 cents. Think before buying or trading.
No phone has our high density, colors (on skydragon) or design. Yea the note 4 looks better than any NOTE OR GALAXY but our g3 is nexus like. And our brightness is blinding.
And for all those thinking of the n6.. That design killed it, dual speakers? Ok? Skydragon has fauxsound and with that app you can find around the webzs my speaker can be heard from 2 rooms away on full blast, 6 inches with wayy less pixels andd amoled ...after today. I have desided to stay.
Just waiting for mr faux to release a aosp kernel so those colors can be on cm

Just saying man... Were fully unlocked. Note 3 n s4 n 5 are still locked after years. And were the closest thing to stock android... With some bloat removed and aosp icon pack and my theme for tweaksbox. But your loss.
And about the iphone yea that screen is ****

I find the G3 alot like the nexus in terms of looks too, i mean cover up the colour panel at the bottom they look nearly the same - all black looks mean as

I've never had any issues with the color reproduction on our device quite frankly. Of course, if you keep two devices side to side and compare then you'll find differences but if you judge the G3 standalone - I don't really think you can complain about the colors. Despite not being an AMOLED our G3's blacks are quite deep (and I've used AMOLED previously with the Note 2).
All in all, it's nice to see people still finding the G3 great. I find both the Note 4 & the Nexus 6 to be great devices. Maybe the Nexus 6 is too huge for some people's likings, but you never know until you've held one in your hands. Still, nothing that'll make me switch from my G3 so soon. ☺

I might be the only person that cancelled a note 4 preorder and bought a G3. I loved the form factor and size of the G3. Perfect for my hand.
I also primarily use a phone as a just that, a phone. Novelty wears off real quick with me and I know I will never use a pen interface on a phone.

Im right there with all of you guys. But i never really thought pixel density mattered till today idk if its the fact that its amoled or not but the sharpness difference are crazy. The n6 really shouldve chosen the g3 screen to be honest, with all those high specs, less than 500 ppi. Might let some dow , especially for the price

G3 or Note 4
Hi all,
I do look at this a bit differently. Although the screen of of the G3 is indeed beautiful I really don't think it weighs up to the amount of resources it takes. Same probably goes for the note 4. Maybe some users really see the difference but if I load the same wallpaper on both my "old" Note 3 and my new G3, I must try really hard to see any difference at all. This leads me to believe that the screen quality has reached it's limits as to what you can actually see with the human eye. What would like to see is a phone that actually uses its processor and battery just for better performance (as in speed and ROM and RAM capacity and battery life). Isn't it crazy that so much time and money is being spend on even greater displays which my eyes can't grasp anyway?
This raises a few questions:
1* How come we have a microSD card with 128 GB of ROM but most phones come with 16 or 32 GB?
2* If the Note 4 (or G3 for that matter) would have the same display as the previous model, but with the new battery and processor? How fast would it go and how long would a battery last?
Obviously I'm not a developer and maybe the above isn't quite as simple as I put it, but I do know this: My rooted Note 3 with Slim Rom on it, runs faster and smoother then my new G3!
Maybe someone with more knowledge can explain.

Lmao. Had to. But seriously guys adjust your colors on skydragon and go test it out side by side. Sharpness g3 wins hands down, colors in my opinion are way better on g3 if you know how to set it up, coming from the n4 which had a **** screen till faux released his kernel with gamma settings, i became obsessed with screen colors.

The thing is, its not really the hardware that makes the phones runs smoother anymore, depending on what skin is ON android.. I HAVE A REALLY OLD PHONE RUNNING cM11 (just realised caps in on sorry)the motorola defy and it runs smooth. And its gunna be able to support android l because we have a def that resized the partitions to let it be able to run, and i bet its gunna run really good. The thing is companys add so much **** to android it needs the high specs just to run the software, screens dont really make a difference from 720 to 2k, its the size of the screen that kills the battery. I honestly dont know why google release the n6 with all those specs because android l is really optimized now it doesnt need 3 gigs of ram nor does it need that cpu the battery is a nice touch since it isnt removeable. But yea I ran L on the n5 and its butter smooth, kitkat on my n7 is butter smooth and i just added greenify to it, its so fast it looks fake. I guarantee the n4 is still gunna be really smooth because even carbon rom with all those extra features are stilllll smooth.
Its gotten to the point where specs dont matter but they see how people are and take it as a selling point(take advantage)

my Atrix Vs Nexus S experience

so my brother has a nexus S. i have an iphone 4, and i ordered from amazon last week the Atrix and i got it yesterday " returned it yesterday also . screen flicker problem. " anyway here is what i think between the 2 devices.
Speed :
surprisingly i found the nexus S faster in terms of response / no lag. my brother didnt overclock the phone. but in terms of use. the nexus S was faster.
the Atrix S sometimes lag athe app drawer, when you move an icon to the main widget screen. it might be cause of the stupid blur is too slow. but its for what its.
who knows when atrix would get faster than the nexus S if it got custom roms or clean rom just like the nexus S. but i dont think it will if any.
Games :
i tried need for speed shift on both phones. i couldnt tell the difference. in fact. it looked better on nexus S due to the colors .
however. we also tried the Nintendo 64 emulator. and some games like killer instect and golden eye run much better on atrix " almost not playable on nexus S. so we over clocked the nexus to 1.5 i think. it was better. but the phone started to hang and reboot
Screen :
personally, i think the super amoled is one of the best screens in the market. but i thought that high res qhd screen on atrix might make a difference. and i was wrong. i could still see the pixels on both atrix and nexus S. the difference is the colors are much better on nexus S. super amoled wins here hands down. qHD my @$$.
Sound :
i think both are the same. loud and clear sound on both devices.
Hardware design :
this is personal taste. but i did like the finger touch access on the atrix. even tho its hard to turn on the phone due to its awkward place. i found that its easier on nexus S. the curves on nexus S PERSONALLY looks better than the curves on Atrix.
Camera :
i tried few shots. i thought it looked better again on the nexus S. the atrix shots had this sort of dots/dust fliter on it. didnt look clean at all. dont know if my phone had a defective camera as well or not.

I'm sure this is a Motoblur issue. Man, that thing is laggy! If you try a different launcher (LP or ADW, for instance), it'll get much better. I have seen that, even in single cores like Defy or Milestone 2.

They need something to differentiate their brand of Android phones from others on the market. Vendor skins are the only real way to do it for the average consumer.
The hope is that you enjoy the enhanced functionality or look that a custom skin brings and will steer your future purchases based on that (i.e. you like motoblur and don't want to lose it, so buying a phone with HTC Sense will be less attractive than another phone with motoblur).
I don't think that average users are going anywhere near a custom launcher (nor do they know what a "Launcher" is even if they stumble upon it in the market).
Demo phones tend to run fairly well in stores (if they have an operational demo) and the average use time for a demo phone is pretty small. I don't think most people would come away with a negative impression from high end phones using the demo units.
hmmmm
Thank you for the quick review.
Did you ship it back for a replacement or just a refund?
The fact that Android itself doesn't require a dual core phone with a gig of ram speaks in volumes here.
As the OP stated, he saw improvements for the Atrix when he played games on the N64 emulator; the phone is fast, yes, but things like aa locked bootloader and 2.2 slow it down when in comparison to pure Google devices with a good ROM.
I'm on a 2.3.3 rooted, deoxed, ziplined N1 and this is the fastest I've seen any phone go, and I have a OCed Capttivste and I had the Atrix as well.

Probably have a defective camera or something sense the camera takes very clear and sharp pics on mine.
And for the speed heck even when i first got mine everything was super fast motor blurr didn't cause any problems for me, And ya im not a normal user which pretty much everything i get my hands on i want too hack or overclock
Like my galaxy tab im running voodoo and have it overclock too 1.4ghzs.
And for the screen it looks fine on my atrix and i don't see any pixels unless i turn the screen on very bright than i see them which i usely keep mine on low which is good enough.
And for the power button were its located at i like were its at hehe sense if its in my pocket the power button doesn't get bump and its easy for me too turn it on.

yeah i also do think i had a defective camera because it wasnt supposed to be like this.
and i am not dissing the atrix really i know its great art of a hardware. in fact when i retuned my atrix my brother told me why dont you go with nexus S ? it didnt feel right to me because somehow i knew i was going back step in terms of technology
its just the blur. 2.2, locked bootloader is really killing the phone. this phone, on paper, should be at LEAST 2 to 3 times more powerful than nexus S. yet the nexus S imho is winning in terms of pure speed and response. even zoom in and out in the browser was faster on nexus S. but once it was pure gaming ? the atrix ran circles over nexus S

Very interesting. Yes, AMOLED looks amazing, but it burns in, and it's very power hungry. I have a Captivate, and one of the things I hate about it is the AMOLED screen.

- The qHD screen color sucks for sure. Colors are distorted compare to IPS screen and color calibration sheet. Super AMOLED is vibrant yet suffer from burn-in problems and consumes too much power decreases the internet browsing time.
- The camera is a little pink here is my example of the quality.

i had a defective camera. and the screen used to flicker on high brightness.and i did mention it. why cant i make an impression based on the other things beside the cam ?
and i do agree the phone as hardware is awesome. its the best in the market and imho better than the optimus 2x.
but as its stands right now. the nexus S was a better phone if you are not a gamer. and thats only due to the software being locked down and 2.2 along with blur.
i did mention when i started playing emulators that requires power, the Atrix did circles over Nexus S.
the screen whatever you like super amoled, iphone ratina, motorolla Qhd,, is something personal. but in my eyes i saw the super amoled better because i thought with QHD i wont be able to see pixels on screen " which is a good trade off. no pixels, but less colors. just like the iphone ratina " . and i was able to see the pixels just like how i did with the nexus S. so it came back to me which has better colors and again, imho the super amoled was better.
not saying the qHD is bad. if i can pick one of the phones right now thats both working perfectly, imma pick the Atrix. its just the super amoled is better to look at. and if you are not a hardcore gamer, you will probably enjoy the nexus S more for now. due to the lack open bootloader, roms. etc
What new update are you referring to?

Chose this over the note 3. Good choice?

So I just signed up for att and they have an online special both this phone and the note 3 are free. The note 3 is a certified like new device so basically new. The main reason I chose this over the note is rom development this phone has a ton of roms in the other lg section. And the note still has a locked boot loader with no workaround so roms are very few. My question is what do u guys think is this an awesome phone that is with sticking with. I have 14 days to decide and exchange it.

well check for all known issues and if you have them.
first always pixel check on lcd screen with different colors.
sensors, check if they work. Basic stuff I do without leaving store cause that makes returning it that much more easier.
update it, check if audio is good
do a litle search as I am not known with att variant.
other then that, read the amazing discovery thread here in general section, its shows the neat things people found

This. The ATT Note 3 ROM dev section is EMPTY. Dead. Nothing. Maybe a few modified stock's.
G2 has everything imaginable.. AOSP, PA, AOKP, CM, Slim, $randomrom
Yes that's what I'm thinking gonna stick with this one. I think the note 3 is a better device but no roms is a deal breaker for me

My antutu 4 score 36308 beats Samsung 5 and note3.
If you lucky you might score a winner LG g2 like me.
note 3 is pretty unambiguously better, but the size is awkward. it's priced 1.5 times as high. if you're indifferent to size and can get either for free, don't pick the LG G2.
the big differences are the screen digitizer + stylus, replaceable battery, no on-screen buttons hogging your screen and the faster response of the touchscreen... LG G2's response time is mediocre and you notice it.
screen type is a matter of preference; Note 3 can produce a lot broader range of colors and has perfect blacks. white might not look so natural though. the pentile matrix is almost irrelevant to the perceptible detail - it provides the same level of luminance (as opposed to chrominance) info to your eyes and that's the only kind the eyeball cares much about when it comes to detail*. pentile is preferable to RGB-stripe for battery life reasons.
* see pic: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chrominance
btw, LG G2 kinda sucks if you don't mod it. get it only if you at least plan to root it, put a camera mod on it, get rid of on-screen buttons, lower DPI setting, etc.

you mentioned some good contrast point and you missed one important thing that is the SD card slot too.
However, I would have to strongly disagree that the G2 sucks. Ofc that is your opinion but that kinda too much. Some ppl love the dpi of the phone, and it is also exceptional stocked. For the camera mod you don't need root anymore, and the screen is gorgeous. Performance the g2 comes in par with note 3 in a more compact size. But everyone has their preference.
I agree. While I wish the Note came in a smaller package for the stylus, I don't regret picking up the G2. The Note 3 and G2 are basically the same internals. The major difference is the screen size, stylus, and SD card. I have a Verizon G2 that has built in Wireless Charging, which was something I required. The Note 3 DOES have a wireless charging backplate, but it only makes the phone that much thicker and it already requires 2 hands.
While I kinda wanted to play with the stylus, it wasn't a buzz kill. The G2's 5.2" Edge-2-Edge screen makes for a very compact phone for the size. It is even smaller then the S5 sporting a 5" display.
The major thing is that I can use my G2 with one hand (although it is close), built in wireless charging, has all the power of the current smartphones, amazing battery life, and has tons and tons of development.
The Stock software is very intuitive and takes notes from an AOSP custom rom. Floating Calls and Messages is awesome along with their floating apps and awesome little tweaks and features hidden everywhere. I would recommend you root to at least adjust the DPI. The actual DPI is 440 (resolution x size) but is set at 480. Adjusting the DPI down to 400 feels much better. Installing the Xposed Framework allows you to retain all the neat and thoughtful features of stock but bring in custom tweaks often baked into custom roms such as Themes, Status/Nav bar mods, etc.
Since you are on XDA, that tells me the G2 is a great match for you. For someone like my mom or sister, the Note 3 might be better matched (if they can handle it), else a Galaxy S5.

I used to have GNEX, NOTE1 and NOTE2. I also checked my friends' S3 and S4. Soon I discovered that the Super Amoled Screens all have one thing in common. When it comes to the display of dark scenes with low light(sometimes even in the bright light), you can actually see some irregular blockness all over the screen. That really bothers! And it's the main reason not to choose a Samsung phone anymore.
Eh that is software not hardware but anyways. When you are using the G2 in the dark it is blindingly bright even with the display turned all the way down. The AMOLED s much more usable in the dark. Love my G2 but this still annoys me.

depends on what you consider "a lot better". The 805 would be a nice bump in battery life and would make things snappier with a QHD screen. Would also see improvement in gaming. Im sure if the G3 came with the 805 people would be complaining less about the battery life. Also it really depends on how the software is utilized with the 805 to see real differences. Considering how bloated touchwiz is i doubt itd feel like a huge difference in performance.

I completely agree. I almost passed on the G3 to wait for the Note 4, but I'm glad I didn't. If I had, I'd be going to get the G3 today.
The Note Edge looks like it will be a complete nightmare for case makers or anyone that is prone to dropping their phone.

IMO the biggest improvement, beside GPU, is faster memory (2x900mHz, if I recall correctly)

That too. In a world full of useless gimmicks, I think Samsung just took the cake with this one...
I quite like the note 4. Just wish they changed the design a bit more, flush back camera and got rid of the physical home button.
I too had a lot of thoughts if I chose poorly by buying the G3 instead of waiting for the note 4 (speaking as a previous note 2 owner)
But c'mon there is nothing special about the note 4...legendary battery life on the note serious?
The note 4 had a 3200mAh battery(Same as the note3) and it will sip the juice more than ever thanks to the 2k screen..so no longer "legendary" battery life...it left with the note 2
Camera? Though I rarely use my phone for photos ( Prefer my much more loved Nikon D7000 )..but the G3 does it all and well.. i do occasionally take some photos in case I don't have my photography gear with me
And the results are pretty good for a phone...
Software?please keep me away from TW
S Pen? I rarely used it with my note 2
CPU / GPU bump? I don't use phone for intense gaming or so...and I believe the 801 SoC is more than enough
I though miss the AMOLED display :\
In a nutshell..I'm perfectly happy with the G3..Although I wish for AOSP Rom for the G3

Yeah ill get an edge
Well.. I keep wondering what exactly more people want from a smartphone.
How different can it be? If Samsung increases the size, it looses it's pocket-ability and market share. If they use even more premium materials, it becomes fragile (glass) and weight increases. These would be downgrades.
Design: It's basically a block with a huge screen. There's not many ways you can re-design that. Samsung did add metal to the edges to give a premium feel without weight increases and I think they have done a decent job at that. Remove the front buttons? Sure.. I'm sure many support the idea. But don't forget.. it's Samsung's signature design to have a centre physical button and many people buy Samsung because of that. Just like how Apple has their round button. The advantage is that you get more screen space too.
The dimpled back of the S5 received more negativity and they decided to keep the faux leather texture from N3. Nothing wrong about it. Miles better than glossy materials imho.
Internals: The CPU bump from 800 2.3Ghz to 805 2.7GHhz is very decent. You can't find anything better out there now (maybe except the NV's K1). A 64bit CPU won't do the end-user any good at this point. The screen bump from FHD to QHD is also expected and goes very nicely with the big screen. However, I have to admit that the curved screen edges are kinda sucky, esp if you're gonna apply an SP.
Software: Seriously.. I think the new screen grab function is very neat. No need saving individual pics or text before sharing. The photo taking from notes and handwriting detection is pretty nifty.. not to mention it does keystone correction! Also, a screen grab of a bunch of text will end up as ASCII when you paste it. It does OCR on the fly. Multi tasking is a step closer to windows-like. These are real new features.. not gimmicks unlike the smart-stay, smart-wave, smart hover or whatever.
In summary, I am pretty pleased with the Note4's offering. Beware, I am not a Samsung fanboy. The S5 was a crappy upgrade from the S4, being bigger, uglier and all.. but I would say the Note4 is a decent upgrade from Note3. :good:
Will I be switching to N4? No. I don't need the stylus nor the bigger screen size. Not needing such a device doesn't mean it's bad :silly:
Cheers!
After having a G2 and Flex which I liked both phones a lot I was going to wait for the Note 4. I just wanted something different. I played with a G3 and had to get it. So I'm glad I didn't wait for Note 4. Have a Jump to use and might try iPhone 6 though. Lol
Maybe if Samsung stopped downgrading devices at the same time.
The Note 4 is slightly taller and heavier than the Note 3
They removed USB 3.0 and went back with USB 2.0
The speaker is now on the back instead of the bottom
I agree that there is only so much that can be done, but look at the G3 for instance. They made the bezels as thin as possible compared to other phones, since it's not water resistant like the S5 I don't know what their excuse is for not making the bezels smaller. The battery is basically the same size, every other Note model has had a significant improvement in battery capacity, plus with QHD it's going to be worse just like the G3 is to the G2.
Overall Samsung makes a device that has good specs, but in a shell that is not pleasing to look at and easy to forget, with an OS that is full of so many half-baked features that since they don't work consistently, no one ever uses them. They need to get some new design engineers and take a page out of Apple's attention to every little detail, and either fix or remove most of their features so they actually work.

First Nexus 6 on video?

Dodgy vine unboxing video aside, I think this is the first hands-on of the Nexus 6, and it's also compared to the Note 4!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Fn8OnzDO5Y
Video Summary:
Note 4 display has better colours.
Note 4 has slightly sharper images (likely the 3mp extra coming into account)
Nexus 6 has better low light images and flash
Nexus 6 has the better software (surprising no one at all)
Shame its so short and doesnt really go into any of the other features. I really wanted to know how the Stereo speakers were on the Nexus 6.
notice how finalized model doesn't have that metal dimple but just like the 1st gen Moto X, wonder what changed their minds, it felt pretty good on 2nd MotoX.

The phone in the video is not the final version.
I also noticed that the video states the nexus 6 to have an LCD display while it has an AMOLED display. It's most likely a preproduction unit or something.

What's really disappointing is that the Note 4 has more vibrant and saturated colors and a much brighter screen. Hopefully the final release will have a brighter screen.

Could be something as simple as different ambient light sensor settings. Samsung may have it designed to crank the brightness up higher than it really would need to be? Who knows.
Also have to take into account the angles at which he was holding the phones. When he's holding them both up in front of him while the video is playing, they seem to be angled slightly towards each other... and the Nexus 6 seems to be getting a lot more glare. When you see him browsing the settings menu, the brightness difference is much less prominent.

I highly anticipate Samsung didn't give the N6 access to their latest and greatest AMOLED technology like they did their own flagship - enough said until official reviews post.

Both devices are at 100% manual brightness when on the home screen and settings pages (unsure on video, but likely the same). Do remember that on auto brightness, the Note 4 can actually go up another 140~ nits as part of an outdoor boost mode. The Note also has adaptive display color modes (likely enabled by default here) to saturate colors to increase contrast in sunlight, in addition to their less reflective glass panel. Samsung got it right from how it looks so far. Perplexed as to why they'd do an outside video though with a crappy camera.

SO you think that only Samsung Produce AMOLED panels ?
AU Optronics also make AMOLED displays, also I can't imagine Moto asking Samsung for the display in the first place as Im sure Samsung would stitch them up something rotten.
Regardless of who makes the panel its mor eof the fact that google have a 6" because this is all it is about who can make the best Phablet.
As long as the Battery can handle the screen i can't see why it wont sell in droves to the Phablet market over the note if the price is right, if its too close to the Samsung people will just buy the Samsung and not compromise.
The note 4 retails here between £550 and £600, so the Nexus 6 is going to have to respond to that !
so unless the lowest model of the N6 is around £450 i can't really see areason not to go with Sammys offerings and just ditch Touchwhizz when you get root and flash Stock.
Dont forget with a nexus we can change the screen color with custom kernels. If you want more contrast, add it! At least this is how i remember it on my galaxy nexus.

If that's the case, it shouldn't be bad by any means... just not as good efficiency or accuracy wise as the new displays.

Perhaps not only Samsung, but I'm sure they're the best. They have plenty of money and invented the technology...
The N6 may be 6", but for the average user they are losing that additional screen space to buttons. And the S-Pen is something that puts the Note a whole league ahead of the N6. Size isn't everything, especially when you hit the phablet sector. All these phones are big, so what else do they have to offer?
Don't get me wrong, I've been a Nexus user for years and just recently got the G3 to try it out (big mistake). I want the N6 to be amazing and win me over, but I feel like I'm going to be somewhat let down compared to other flagships yet again which is a big deal considering the price isn't any different now.

In your Case if your G3 is your Daily Driver i don't think the Nexus 6 will be disappointing as you have no L preview to flash and get used to Lollipop, the G3 is a solid device bar the OS skin which is so cluttered.
The best thing about the Nexus 6 will be the Build quality, the N5 is so soft and has finally succomed to light dinks out of the plastic and cracking between the plastic around the side volume / power and sim.

I thought the back of the Nexus 6 was soft plastic again? Either way the phone is gorgeous. I'm not sure how much I like the front of it though.. reminds me a lot of the Nexus 4.
My G3 has a great camera, and amazing display. It could be brighter, and a little warmer for color accuracy, but it is IPS and I love it. The problem with the G3 isn't within cluttered OS (I find it to be pretty close to stock Android), but with lag, build quality, probable lack of dev, and bugs.
The 801 cannot handle this device, plain and simple - at least in terms of Nexus speed. It also overheats when things get crazy. The phone looks great, don't get me wrong. But the casing has reportedly cracked at ports because it is still plastic (must be crap plastic at that). I do love the front design of the phone (back is whatever because it's always been in a case), especially in white. The T-Mobile boot loader has been open since day 1, and development is still dead. ATT just got theirs unlocked, but I feel like the device just isn't going to take off at this point. Reception has been a pain where I'm currently located, WiFi drops and hesitates to reconnect all too frequently, WiFi calling messes up, WiFi hotspots are broken without apps, and int'l roaming didn't work out of the box to name a few issues. LG software support is crap, so I have no hope for this device.
But then you might say - it's Android, who cares about bad software? Well, with a lack of dev, that is still a problem. Secondly, I used to be a flashaholic. I've had Android since the G1 debuted in 2008. But I've grown out of constantly flashing, updating, tinkering... I'll do a few things here or there, but I kept my Nexus 5 stock (rooted w/ recovery though) the entire time I've had it (still do). I did a few modifications, but that's it. I change phones every year or so because I haven't had one that just blew me away and made me feel like I could keep it for awhile, without needing to try a million different ROMs either. The Note 4 or Nexus 6 could be that device I actually keep more than a year IF they deliver the whole package. Displays and cameras are finally getting where they need to be, and if the hardware and software can make the phone blazing fast, I have everything I need.
Sent from my LG G3
Don't get me wrong, I loved the SPen in note 2 and 3.
But Touchwiz is just painful. Custom ROMs void the warranty too.
Plus the Exynos variant is quite a bit more powerful than the more common Snapdragon version, and also has a better camera and wolfson DAC. However, Exynos has poor ROM support outside of tweaked Touchwiz. And as I say, warranty = void.
A custom launcher can't get rid of all that bloat unfortunately. The note 4 pretty much maxes all available RAM out of the box due to the bloat.
Screen might not be as good, but the build quality looks to be better, front facing speakers, and above all else a phone that you can do whatever you want to. No restrictions.
Literally the only bad thing in my eyes is the lack of micro SD support, but everyone knew that before it was announced anyway. 64GB is more than enough for me.

Things I love so far (coming from note 4)

Just picked up my Nexus,
-Front speakers rock
-Stock Android is great as always blah to touchwiz..... I will say that I did not have any issues with Lag on my note 4 but I truly enjoy stock android.
-Camera has been great for me so far and has taken some great pics. Note 4 may be better but to be honest i cant tell a difference. I'm impressed
-its fast. Note 4 is as well but I guess i just enjoy the stock feel software wise
-Battery is still on the first drain so not sure about this yet. My note is on a custom ROM so Ill have to wait to root and do some comparisons then
-Call quality is great so far. I feel a bit better then the note 4. IMO
-love the buttons. They feel great
-Build quality seems good and feel pretty good in the hand to me. The note 4 is sharp. I don't use cases so the moto feels better in the hand.
Size is not much difference from the note. I compared to my note 4 with a case and the note was a tad bigger. Also compared to iPhone 6 plus and pretty much the same. Ive always enjoyed a larger phones so :good:

I actually have a similar thread, I returned a note4 for the n6. I didn't have them side by side so all my comparisons are indirect, I have the n5 so compared note with n5 and then n5 with n6.
Colors- didn't notice much difference
Screen size - note feels a bit smaller, but n6 seems easier to hold for some reason
Quality- imo the n6 looks better than note, I just felt like Samsung tried to make the note look fancy but failed, like trying to pimp out a Honda civic
Video- without a doubt the n6 is better, you can't beat dual front speakers no matter how much better (technically, though I couldn't notice) the display
General use- the note annoyed me, settings too complicated, too many frivolous features, physical home button., the rom itself just looks too much like a cartoon. The n6 just works.
One other thing is that the n6 seems to have better cellular and gps signal. Again, this is comparing with the n5, but side by side the note and n5 had similar cell signal and gps was slightly better in n5 than note. The n6 is better than the n5 in both, this was all in the same exact place and same time of day. I had an s3 and it constantly had gps issues, never had any issues with n5.
Last thing is rooting, if you are just going to stay stock, maybe go with the note, but if you know you'll root I'd say definitely nexus. Like others said, not much in dev. now but it's really only been in people's hands for what, a week or maybe two for some lucky people? Go look at the notes dev section, it's been out for months and the roms are all just derivatives of the basic TW rom, no aosp or cm roms yet.
I tell ppl two things I love better then the Note 4. Front speakers and the Stock OS. Can believe that smooth Lollipop feel jumping from app to app.
