Galaxy Note 4 Video Quality At 4K - Verizon Galaxy Note 4 General

This is for anyone looking to get the Note 4 and wanted a sample of the Video quality. The video is done though the Note 4, and nothing was modified or changed in anyway.
You can also get a few photo samples here: Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Camera Samples So far the phones camera is awesome in my option.
Mod Edit: closed as a duplicate.

Does the Note 4 get hot recording 4K? The Z3 gets Hot recording 4K.

Not that I noticed, I had it at full brightness as well when doing so. I have not noticed any over heating yet.

Bump for newcomers.

My computer just punched me in the nuts for trying to play that video all the way through. Very clear from what would actually play without glitching. Nice job.

It's the graphics processor lagging. I have a new macbook air so mines nothing but thats one badass video. If you have a cutting edge video card you should be able to play it no problem.

[Q] High 1080P playback capabilities of N9000 and N9005

I'm very interested to know how the N9000 and N9005 perform playing heavy settings encoded 1080p videos. And i'm interested to see if the snap800 will be better at it than the exynos model since it can record/play 4k.
Such as this 1080p sample. Even both the note2/galaxy s4, that i tried, can't play this smoothly. Will the note3 snap800 be able to and the note3 exynos won't for example?
I would love to have real live info from that video clip as opposed to synthetic benchmarks, can anybody download it to both note3 models and test the 1080p sample and try with a good video player such as mx player or something and see if it plays smoothly?
And just for extra curiosity, can anybody download to the s800 at least and try to play this 4k sample?

it does not play using default video player. used MX player to play the video. it played well.
Awesome, tks, finally a phone that can play that video clip, i take it you only tried the 1080p sampe? Anyway xD looks like it's time for me to get a new phone!
Hope to hear from the N9000 too ^^
It ran fine on my Galaxy Note 2.
Ran fine on my Note 3 (SM-N9005)
I tried it in MX player and it's 16 seconds (is this right?)
It seems slow, is it supposed to be slow motiony?

I tried it when the note2 came out on a friends unit, and it wasn't smooth, maybe with the latest roms the video playback got improved?
But i also tried on a S4 when it came out and it didn't play smothly also, it had missing frames, so i didn't buy either phone, but i didn't try with updated or custom roms, maybe that's why.

ye, close to 17 sec.
I don't know if the video is in slow motion, but i guess it does kinda looks a little bit like that. The thing is that video is 108Mbps so if the note3 didn't play it smootly you could easily see it jitter/skip frames (as in my note1 ) probly the same thing that you see on the 4k video which is really high bitrate also.
Now i wonder how the N9000 copes at playing the 1080p and 4k clips, probly the same results no?
Bloody hell, 424MB for 17 seconds?! Remind me never to download an entire 4K Bluray...
Yes, the video is in semi-slow motion: It's a Time Lapse.
(I'm not entirely sure the 4K video is meant to run smoothly to begin with. It does the exact same freezing at the exact same point in the exact same manner every time. I'd take it apart in Premiere, but Adobe just took a look at the filesize and gave up.
Even my laptop, which is a 3.2Ghz i7 with 8GB RAM and a 4GB VRAM GT 740M, has trouble running it. (And by trouble I mean, "does this even count as frames per second anymore?") It can run TimeScapes 4K (the first ever official 4K Timelapse film @4096 x 2304) smoothly without issue...)
hehe ye, that 4k clip is just an abuse lol at 243Mbps it's a real task even for a normal pc, i just threw it there out of curiosity, normal 4k videos with lower bitrate will probly play fine (i hope...).
What i was really interested was the 1080p sample cause that clip is also very high bitrate for a 1080p, looks like the note3 can play it which means i can finally buy a mobile that play many of my high profile videos with 16 ref. frames and 10bit and etc, not even my standalone media player could play that one. Like that can use the mobile as a high end mediaplayer when out at friends house
have a couple more questions ^^:
1 - Now on the note1 when i used the mhl cable on tv i noticed that there was a bit of slow down compared to just playing it on the phone, also the battery discharged like crazy, i wonder if this will be the case on the note3 also?
2 - And, with this new usb3 and mhl2 combo, can we conect a usb otg cable to use an external drive and mhl at the same time? or it's still a no no? Either with a hub or Y-cable or any other method...

Unsure about your questions but:
Of course note 3 can play "some" 4k because it records 4k and so plays them back in gallery
Also, how do you acquire your high end vids?
I did notice mx player has an option for hardware decoding 10bit ....
Sent from my SM-N9005 using xda app-developers app
lol poor thing if it couldn't playback it's own recordings hehe
I'm really not concerned about 4k cause i won't get any 4k media for years i'm sure (as i think maybe the majority of ppl) but curious since the 4k is part of the s800 package... but i bet that even standard 4k bitrates with some encoding gimmicks (which are not hardware supported, since the default video player can't even play this ducks 1080p sample) will be too much for the note3...
Ye, mx player and others can play 10bit, but playing them smooth and artifact free is something that my galaxy note1 and home mediaplayer can't do :/ Such as many of the 10bit anime and high 16 ref frames profiles released nowadays.
Still missing a N9000 test tho
Hope is last thing to die so will wait if somebody can give some positive insight on those mhl and otg things, but i doubt it will happen, don't think it's something that would be on samsung's list of things to do.
the internal memory on these phones or normal desktop computers aren't fast enough to play 240mbps videos unless you have ssd etc... so it is not the chipset's fault but the internal memory's

[Q] Bad quality 4K recording.

I bought myself a Note 3(N9005, 32GB version) few days ago, but since the beginning I have had a problem with recording 4K videos. To be exact, it doesn't record at the promised 45-50 mbps bitrate, instead it records at 10 mbps or even lesser bitrate. So my question would be, how can I fix that?
All the other featured modes are working flawlessly. Would really appreciate some help. The phone is not rooted or customized in any way.
Thanks in advance!

Downscaled 4K looks much better though, so there is a huge benefit in making 4K videos. Anyway it seems like those crappy units of Note 3-s made their way only to Estonia, since me and shizny are both from Estonia and there is no more information about that problem on the internet, atleast I couldn't find absolutely nothing on such weirdness.
Actually jaythenut is correct. Though the Note 3 is capable of recording video for playback on a 4K TV your device having only a 1080p display is not going to appear different at all.
The Note 3 plays back recorded 4K Video in 1080p on both the phone and any other playable media device as it can't process anything higher than that.
Your better off recording videos in 1080p at the now 60f/s.

no one is right.
quality of recorded videos playback is not the same as seen on youtube, by other peeps recordings.
check the quality, bitrate of 4K recorded video on my device is 6000kbps, 1080p is 15000kbps.
If you think a little logically then how come 4K recorded video is worse than 1080p? Even the playback quality is worse, not only on the device itself, but also on monitor.
Have you ever watched 1080p video on 720 display? Any difference? Video is crispy and detailed, Now how about 520p video on 1080p screen?
Now this is the same as my 4K recording on 1080p screen.
Either the device is faulty and cannot record/play 4K videos or sample videos made on youtube are actually 1080p.
This is really strange. I'm from Estonia as well and I'm facing the exact same problems. All my 4K videos look like 240p ones or even worse.

the same problem here (lithuania), firmware N9005XXUBMJ1

Same here. 4K recording quality (and, of course, bitrate) is awful. Videos looks like 240p.
Lithuania, baseband N9005XXUBMJ1.
EDIT: Ok, it seems that this is common issue with particular batch of this model (maybe it only affects the Baltic countries), and service centers are aware of this problem.

Galaxy Note 4 Videos Thread!

if anyone knows me from any other phone forums, you'd know I do a lot of guitar videos for youtube, and i typically like doing them with my phone. so i did them a lot until i got my G2 because the G2 was by far the worst video-camera i've ever used in a phone. i'm glad to have the note 4 again because the video quality of all of my Samsung phones has always been the best! here's a few videos I've done so far. the quality is great. the audio isn't as good as I hoped it would be, but that may be because i've got a TPU case on here that's somewhat covering the one mic hole, and in my guitar videos, only the bottom half of the phone was directly facing the guitar amp! so noise cancellation may have been kicking in hard. either way, post your videos!
all in 4k resolution, even though my computer can't even play 4k on youtube lol

For videos where the sound matters an external mic might be worthwhile checking out. Monoprice has what looks like a decent one for under $20 (and there are others out there as well.)

because i can only see videos in 1080.
anyone?
I've watched a few movie trailers in 2k and they played fine. I don't know who could watch an entire movie like that. Looks wierd to me. I always disable that auto motion plus crap on 240hz TV's. I'd rather everything I watch not look like a soap opera. =)
If you're on mobile data and you haven't called T-Mobile to cancel Bing On then they won't let you watch Youtube videos in 2k let alone 1080. They reduce the quality of Youtube videos to use less data. Of course if you're on wifi this doesn't make a difference.
If you have unlimited LTE, you can turn off Binge On.

It was pausing for me on his new video also, so I searched other 2k videos and all the others played fine. I think it is just his video.
Yes. 2k videos freeze on me occasionally. I really am curious what could be causing it. I also had my entire phone freeze once when playing a video in the Break app. It totally froze and the speaker was emitting a crazy high frequency sound. I just held the power button until it rebooted
I can't say for sure, heard that they reserved the right to throttle any crazy suspicious usage, but so far I haven't got one.
I use 25GB just this couple weeks, it's just because I'm taking a break from work, and watch too much K Drama, lol. But usually every month, I used 15-25GB.

No problem....Yea, depending on my signal, I used to have 1080 YouTube videos freeze on me before I canceled Bing on.
The latest update seems to have fixed this
I think it has something to do with the updated modem, prior to update I was getting 7 -12 MB download at home, now back to normal 25-30mb.
And when i tried to play gta san andreas in full resolution break the game. Anyone?
I think the issue here might have something to do with ram management. It happened to me 3 times already. And even after the resent update it did it again! Hopefully there's a fix for this soon.

[HDR VIDEOS] 4k HDR videos from Samsung, LG, Sony and BBC Planet Earth.

Hello.
I'm not the person who have originally written this, but i'm gonna copy and paste it from the Galaxy S8 / S8+ section on Reddit where i found this.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello everybody,
Here is my collection of 4K HDR videos, all working on the S8. There are 13 videos with a variety of demo material from Samsung, LG, Sony, and BBC Planet Earth.
These videos only work in HDR with the "Samsung Video Library" player (available from Play Store). This will NOT work with any other video player (MX Player, VLC etc.)
For some reason, the video player only plays in HDR when the file is in .mp4 format, and not with .mkv. This is the reason why all the demo footage online doesn't work, most of it is in .mkv format.
If you have your own HDR footage, you have to change the container from mkv to mp4 using ffmpeg before you can play it on the S8.
Make sure to increase brightness to 100% and set screen mode to "Amoled Cinema" for the best viewing experience.
https://mega.nz/#F!jYwlgbBA!piXwD8sYa7zjsRtjStuAyw
Or this one: https://pastebin.com/uLUCVzit
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here is the source for that: https://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyS8/comments/6hc534/galaxy_s8_4k_hdr_videos/ (the post was deleted for some reasons).
Watching those videos, specially the 'LG_Cymatic_Jazz_HDR10.mp4' video made my jaw drop to the floor when i was watching that with the screen brightness on 100%.
WARNING: Once you have seen HDR videos on your Galaxy S8 / S8+ phone, you will never go back to another phone without HDR and Super AMOLED screen.
Enjoy.
EDIT: I added a new MEGA link with all of the videos in one link from my own MEGA account.
hi, do you know why when i move any video from the original download carpet it doesnt play as hdr anymore? happens with all videos, if i move them back to the download carpet they play as hdr again.

On what phone do you get that?

The HDR effect looks nice, but there is also a lot of vignetting/color banding (especially noticable on the Planet Earth clip with the small lizard). Looks way better on my LG OLED anyways.... But could be sloppy reencode job...

Ok, i don't have a Galaxy S6 or S7 here now, so i can't test to confirm this though.
Can someone else with access to a Galaxy S6 or S7 test some of those videos out on those phones to see if they works, or if they only works on devices who support HDR?

All i can is is WOW, makes my 4K Samsung TV seem very poor, look dynamics and colour really do surprise you and your eyes panic and adjust.

As you know it is being reproduced in HDR and not just good quality? Is there any symbol indicating that it is playing in HDR?
Might sound like a dumb question, but how do I confirm HDR is active? Have the S8+ and played these videos using the Samsung Video app (after setting display to max brightness and AMOLED Cinema). They do look nice, but I was not blown away. Perhaps HDR was not active?
