Nexus 6 Australian Thread - Nexus 6 General

Hi everyone
Thought I'd make a thread for prospective Australian owners to discuss the device.
I'm personally super excited by the fact that the Nexus phone is a phablet. A bit less enthused by the price but we'll wait for the official $AU price. It'll still be cheaper than the $900+ Note 4 which is its only other competitor currently.
Looks like it'll be coming to Telstra in December according to the well connected and reliable Crazy CS from Whirlpool:
http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2324246&p=3#r50
If so, that means it'll probably get released in JB Hifi and Officeworks. Maybe it'll be a bit cheaper like last year with their marginally better than RRP prices for the Nexus 5.
Anyways discuss away

I'm excited with this release and been waiting for this phone but bit disappointed with the listed price, I was hoping @ 500 mark.

Carrier release info:
http://ausdroid.net/2014/10/16/which-australian-carriers-will-offer-the-nexus-6-and-nexus-9/

I paid like 700 for the Galaxy Nexus here OZ. I'd pay it again for a smaller a Nexus 6. Why is there no choice if you want better battery and stock Android?

Re: Prices
So the AU prices for the Nexus 9 are out. As you can see there is roughly a 1.2x multiplier from the US price which is fortunately less than currency conversion + GST.
http://www.amazon.com/HTC-Nexus-Tablet-8-9-Inch-Black/dp/B00M6UC5B4
https://play.google.com/store/devic...Wi_Fi_Indigo_Black?id=nexus_9_black_16gb_wifi
Nexus 9
16GB = $399.99 US = $479 AU – 1.198 multiplier
32GB = $479.99 US = $589 AU – 1.227 multiplier
Plus of course the $19.95 shipping.
Extrapolating to the Nexus 6 (1.2 multiplier)
32GB = $649.99 US = $779.99 AU = $799.94 shipped
64GB = $699.99 US = $839.99 AU = $859.95 shipped
https://play.google.com/store/devices/details/Nexus_6_32GB_Midnight_Blue?id=nexus_6_blue_32gb
Preorder link but not open for pre-orders yet.
Personally a bit high for me as a day 1 purchase from the playstore. Think I might wait a couple of weeks and try to nab one off a local retailer (JB/OW/HN etc) for 10-20% off ala what happened with the Nexus 7. Although come to think of it, did they ever stock the nexus 5/4? Thought they only sold nexus tablets?
From past history grey importers like Kogan/DWI have not sold Nexuses for cheaper than RRP either.
Hmmm....needs more thought.

wow, not buying at that price point, goole lost me with this one.
Gone are the days of Nexus being device for poor man, they've joined the premium club.

With the release of the FCC data of the international and US version of the N6, we can see the lte and 3g bands they support. http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/general/nexus-6-fcc-t2917562

Before the Nexus 4, Nexus devices weren't cheap. The nexus 6 and 9 are definitely not as cheap as I'd want but they're still cheaper than the competition and google has upped the build quality a lot
Sent from my LG G2 running CloudyG3 ?

Well I paid $800 for the Galaxy Nexus (my first ever Android phone) when it was released - it was cool when I got it but looking back I wouldn't have got that phone again. Could've got the Galaxy S2 cheaper at the time.
The Nexus 6 looks to cost about $750 for the 64gb version shipped, purchased from overseas of course. From talking with some phone guys at Telstra they expect the Nexus 6 to retail outright around $800-$900, depending on where you get it from. That is not a good deal in my opinion. Considering the inflation in our prices for tech devices between $750 and $850/$900 could be very close to right for the 64gb version.

Buy from Google play for $699 + the usual $50 shipping to Australia will put it at $749 for the 64gb or purchase through carrier at the (as I was told) approximate price between $800 and $900 per phone.
$900 for Nexus 6 is actually more expensive than the Note 4; you can pick that up cheaper elsewhere.

Oh, but then you wouldn't have decent telstra 4g... I though you had another way of getting the international edition.
Thanks for the reply though!

If you wanted the phone cheaper with Telstra 4G I would get a Telstra plan (with no phone included) and buy the Nexus 6 outright from Google.
That is not a cheap option BUT could be slightly cheaper than going direct to Telstra. Telstra may have the best 4G network but in reality it is not much better than the other carriers. Fact. Telstra are WAY overpriced. I quit them for Vodafone and while Vodafone is cheaper and the internet is slightly less stable, I'm still able to carry on my business as per normal without problems.
FYI my original Telstra plan was:
$80 per month which included:
- 1 phone (Samsung Galaxy Ace)
- 1.1 gigs download per month
- 100 free calls
- 100 free texts
- 50 free international calls
- Locked in for TWO YEARS
My current Vodafone plan is:
$28 per month which includes:
- 2 gig download per month
- 500 free calls
- 500 free texts to any phone in Australia
- Locked in for one year
- Free phone (ironically, Samsung Galaxy Ace)

Pretty much what I'm planning to do.
I need the reception as I spend a lot of time in really marginal service areas where the extra range of 700mhz of 850mhz should make a significant difference.
I've thought about Optus, as they have a pretty decent remote area coverage but it just isn't as good as Telstra. I'm on a Telstra plan already, so I'll just keep going with that.

I signed up for the 70$ byo testa plan the other month.. receive 3.5gb for upgrading 950 in calls and unlimited sms/mms... I grandfathered my previous plan from when I got my galaxy nexus due to the value dropping significantly in that time period up to now. I continually complained when they used to call to try and get you to upgrade. Nexus 6 will be preorder on first available date just like with the 9 last week

wow, google is really screwing us now. At current conversion rate US 650 comes to AUD 758, instead we'll have to pay AUD 869 for 32GB version, not happy at all. Not sure if delivery is on top of that or is included?
For AUD 60 more, 64GB device makes more sense if anyone buys, that is.
Edit: change AUD 30 to 60

And how powerful do you need? Never see any lag (nor had a single freeze or crash) on my v1 LG.
Might be an idea to vote and keep an eye on the Dell Swarm though - seems to be a regular thing (4 since July) but you have to be quick to get one.
do the US bands work for you?

Doubtful. You are almost certainly on 2100MHz, which is covered by both the AT&T and T-Mobile US DVP quite nicely.
The TMOUS version also has 900MHz support, making it a better bet for world-wide use than the AT&T version.

WTB: Nexus One

Is anyone selling Nexus One in good condition that works on 900 MHz GSM and 2100 MHz 3G (WCDMA)?

I have a Nexus One in excellent shape. It was the original model sold from the Google Store before they were branded by AT&T and T-Mobile and I'm pretty sure they work on those bands. I'm on AT&T and with my SIM card in it, it is picking up on the EDGE network right now.
I'm waiting to get a dual core droid, so I could live a few weeks without my backup.
I forgot to mention: I'm willing to pay up to $220 for the phone, depending on it's condition. Shipping expenses are on me as long as you label the package as a gift.
Mine is a 3 month old in excellent condition with all the accessories but I would call for a reasonable price

HTC Nexus One is a 1 year and 9 months old phone.
Prices on online auction houses run in the same money frame, but I would rather have it from someone here in XDA.
There are a lot of cheap auctions on ie. ebay germany with phones in a good condition, no need to pay up to $220.
I would rather pay a few extra bucks to someone here, than to take my chances with some "unknown" person on from ebay.

Xperia Z has been discontinued in Japan

The ZR (sold as the A domestically) has so dominated Docomo's summer sales so far (and outselling the S4 2 to 1) that the Z has entirely disappeared from the current offerings on their website:
http://www.nttdocomo.co.jp/product/smart_phone/index.html
At the moment you can still order one but after the stock they have is gone I wouldn't expect any more (same thing happened to Galaxy Nexus on Docomo - very early discontinuation).

Thanks. I am spending my holidays in Tokyo and Kyoto and that explain why they keep to tell me in that this version is sold out. (hodobashis and bic cameras)
My galaxy SII just broke up, seems to be the mother board.
Anyway, Japan is the worst place in the world to buy a phone without contract at a cheap price.

That's terrible!
Contract phones is an awful concept. Imagine you would have to sign an internet contract when buying a PC. Or having to sign a contract with an electricity supplier when buying a washing machine. That would be insane, right?
Here in Belgium, simlocks are illegal and selling phones together with a contract too. Unfortunately, in 2009, the Court of Justice of the E.U. ruled that the ban of contract phones was contrary to E.U. law, so now they're selling them too over here (without a simlock nevertheless), but most people still buy a contractless phone anyway.

But our subscriptions aren't very expensive. Lucky me. Here in Malaysia, most phone sold are unlocked as 80% of the population use prepaid. Also here Sony are the cheapest around. XZ come out at around €520 and XZL at €400 (same price as N4) now I can get XZ for €380 and XV at €219(HK unit). And even with contract, none of the carrier here bother locking the phone, controlling any software or loading any crapware.
And my Prepaid give me 2Gig of data (they capped ur speed afterwards. 4G coverage is still limited but at least 80% of area got 42mbps), 3 Facebook credit, sometime they give u free KFC chicken, 100 minutes call to any local number, unlimited free call to the same Operator, 100mb of kakautalk and wechat and 30Sms for RM48 (€11.48). Afterwards per minutes is RM0.18 (€0.04).

Docomo supposedly had 1 million of each handset ready in advance according to an insider. No availability problems anywhere I've seen. I can confirm that at the shop there was much more activity around the XAs on display.
FWIW, the XA is positioned a lot higher for Japan - the developing-market ZR version is only 8GB but the version sold in Japan has 32GB internal. The waterproofing is a lot more important feature in the japan market, and the physical size hits the sweet spot for japanese hands it seems. (The S4 is just about the widest handset I could possibly use, the XA feels a lot better to me, but ultimately chose to go with S4 for unlocked bootloader)
I suspect the Z is withdrawn because a new model is about to take it's place - could even be an uprated Z as already leaked

The Xperia A is pretty much it until at least the end of August at the very earliest. Japan carriers do strict quarterly unveils of their whole product line and its been only a month since the summer lines were announced. Never anything in between.

HTC Nexus 9 - 32 GB LTE - 359$ Canada

Hey guys , I saw this on another forum and I want to share with you , if you have not seen this.
So Rogers Canada sell the device for 359$ without a contract (it's a promo limited time) This is the 32GB LTE is a really good price because Google play ask 669$ for this model. You can order by phone or go to store for having it. If some peoples wondered if the tablet is locked sim with Rogers, the answer is no it is only for phones.
You must activate it with a 5$ minimum data plan without a contract ( the 20$ fee connectionis you can have it for free on phone and on many stores ) After that you can cancel your account in the same days for having nothing else to pay.
Here the link: HTC Nexus 9 Rogers
Here is my experience with this:
I already have a nexus 9 16GB since last year ( i have got in solde for 350$ )..
Finally I decided to replace my 16GB for the 32GB LTE and selling my 16GB. Great move!
I was in a Rogers store last week and the store manager sold me without contract. The maganer told me he had no connection fees or charges for the sim card for tablets. So is said me is free for all of this. So i have Took the plan for 5$ and later in the day I call Rogers to cancel the line, and he said he had nothing to pay so no invoice because I cancel in the same day.
Have fun

[Q] Ordering Moto X Force to USA

I'm thinking to buy Force from England or from Mexico. Anyone had similar experience? Am I'm going to be charged for duty, tax...? If yes, how much?
Why not getting one from VZW? I got it for $424 plus tax with $300 trade-in credit.

Because has locked bootloader and limited LTE bands.
I'm doing the same from Mexico. Much cheaper than via UK (no VAT), and there's no duty on cell phone imports in the U.S.
i've got 2 phones coming my way
1 to colorado, USA
and 1 to Canada
another one also in process.
Is that really cheaper than importing from UK? Moto.mx says the 32g costs 10499 mxn which is about 635usd. Buying from UK via clove technology, u pay 415 GBP which is about 630usd too. So essentially the same price. But you can build your own from Moto.mx while clove.uk only carries black.

Depends on currency fluctuations for the day, between U.S. dollar and Mexican peso and UK pound. Some days cheaper one way, some days the other.
But you pointed out the most important part -- through Mexico the ability to customize how you like.

Just keep in mind that all customizations are extra. So you may end up paying more than just for plain black device from UK.

This guy gets +1 because he did an excellent job at helping me bring over the Moto X Force into Canada for me. =)
I still have to send mine in to get a new color. I told them before that I wanted the global version that's unlocked. I spoke to "Richard" and he said that the phone doesn't have a global version and only works with Verizon. This guy clearly didn't know what he was talking about as I've been using it minus a band with T-Mobile since day one. But anyway I'm hoping to send this one in and have them send me an xforce. Think they'll do it? I paid full price for two of these and I don't want the locked Vzw one.
You want to send back T2 to replace with Force? To who?
