My Problems so far with the Z3... - Xperia Z3 General

I got this Phone for 3 weeks now (switched from Nexus 4) and I am happy, but there are some massive contras/issues yet:
1. It started to make a crack-sound when you make small pressure on the front and back side of the phone
2. It randomly (last time just 5min. ago, and it was jsut lying next to me beeing in standby) restarts (happened like 4 times yet) and the extra confusing part is, that I just have to enter my Phone-code, but not my SIM-Pin.
I was at my provider and wanted to get a new one, but they told me, that it's not possible yet, because it's fresh out and I need to wait like 3-4 weeks.

Also comming from nexus 4. facing some soft reboots, but I dont see that as a big problem. Probably they will fix it with a update? I'm happy with the phone.

My issue is how the screen reproduces reds, they are almost neon and no distinction between various shades. I'm returning mine

Doesn't help. The effect is caused by the display hardware, I guess it's connected with Sony using blue LEDs for backlighting, not white ones.
It's a like-it-or-not effect; personally, I like it.
I did a 1:1 comparison using two Z2 Tablets, X-Reality switched on and off. Videos on the X-Reality enabled tablet were far better; better contrasts, better details.
Of course I did not believe in Sony's advertizing, first. But it DOES work. And that's the only reason for me keeping the bootloader of my Sony devices locked. I give a you-know-what on the DRM keys (except the ones preventing the Z3's camera quality getting even worse, if that's possible at all); but I do NOT want to lose X-Reality.

Both are switched off. I think it's as Chefproll says, however other people whom I have spoken to about it says that their handset does not display this issue. I've also got backlight issues whereby it's brighter on one side than the other (in portrait it's brighter on the left than the right) and some slight yellow staining in the bottom left corner

Suggestion about the random turn offs, did you by chance trim an existing SIM? The phone restarts when a SIM is ejected/inserted. It's possible the trimming went wrong and there is a tiny short that causes the phone to think the SIM was removed and inserted.
If you have a trimmed SIM, try a carrier nano SIM.

No they sent me a new nano sim along with the phone itself.

Pretty sure this happens if you have the Google Now detection enabled for all screens. IIRC you can just OK the box and carry on.

If you pull sim card you probably need to enter pincode. So I think this is software related.

Came from a Z2. I felt that Z3 sound is a little bit lower than Z2. Anyone one noticed that, or is it some kind of settings tweak?

There was an option "Clear Audio+" - when i turned it on the sound was way better (from the speakers).
An other issue I just got is, when I use my Sony MBR-10 headphones via bluetooth and the Z3 is in my pocket, it seems like the connection sometimes stuck, so there is something like a hick-up while hearing music, no total loss of connection. I can reproduce this issue, like I said, when the phone is in my pocket and I am walking.

Yeah this is the reason for the error message.
However have anybody else noticed that Z3 detects the "ok google" much worse than any other? I have tried side by side against M8, Moto 360, Nexus 7 and Tablet Z and Z3 is usually the only one which doesn't detect the command.

Confirmed. Compared with a S4. If the S4 still recognizes "OK Google" or any spoken command, Z3 fails. You need to get real close to the microphone to make it work.
Changing the microphone sensitivity does NOT help at all.

I just got mine yesterday, are you still having the crack sound? mine is doing the same thing and its driving me nuts.

Mine isn't cracking or creaking, you may want to get a replacement. Headphone volume is really low though.

Im waiting for a replacement but my old one never had any creaking issues.

When I went to Carphone Warehouse to see a Nexus in person I WISH I listened to the guy.
He said LG are know for poor build quality - they get a lot of complaints and returns. He liked the Nexus but didn't think it will be smooth going being a LG phone and said I should wait....
He was right...
My nexus has loose buttons (power button has become loose with use), The side creaks/snaps as if something wasn't put together correctly.
The Sound quality from the mics on videos IS APPALLING !
Rear speaker is tinny, wosre than any phone I have heard TBH.
The camera could be better
The Battery is crap (if you use the features you are supposed to use like Google Now, Location etc)
The WiFi reception pickup is worse than any device I have owned.
The ear-peace has processor noise on it- especially bad when you take a call.
I really don't know what to make of the phone. It has its advantages too but in fairness its just not the golden ticket it was made out to be.
My FFC has dust in it....so many hardware issues.
What are the screen issues? I'm planning on buying this since I don't live in US i would ship it in my country but it looks like I need a warranty for this device maybe a used galaxy s3 better to buy then?

My 4th device is nearly OK, but there is some creaking and that rubbery frame in some places hase a little "give",
Any device that has any creaking, screen problems, loose parts etc shouldnt go throu QC

My £30 2 year old Xbox 360 controller doesnt squeak. Its a brand new £400 device, not used or refurb, there should be no build quality issues. And try using most used buttons on the device when wvery single time you can hear and feel it being not right. Previous device didnt have it so why should I accept that one?
Look at iPhone or Lumia, from build quality view these are perfect devices, and fault ratio is a lot lower than e.g Nexus4.
I had GNexus (3 of them) one had screen issues, second was clicking like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QxGhlnRCneY

Screen freeze when trying to unlock.
For example: Screen is off, wants to unlock phone, turn screen on with power button, screen is on, but doesnt respond to any touch (cant swipe to unlock).
Turn screen off, then turn it back on, now touch is not frozen and unlock is possible.
What batch is it from?
What batch does your current nexus 4 is from? I heard there is some kind of batch the first released ones and the second one is after the sold out?

This will propably software issue. ashirviskas overtook me.
I have an issue with a rattling sound coming from the top of the device, it sounds like something is loose or disconnected on the inside. Maybe the headphone jack? Or the earpiece speaker? I wasn't looking for anything wrong with the device, its just that I noticed it when I put my phone down on the table. It sounded broke in some way. I kinda looked at it funny and said to myself, "That isn't right?". So I picked it up and tapped on the phone (lightly) and definatly noticed there is something loose on the inside. Is this a reason for a return. I have had phone for 10 days and this my first time noticing this. I have not dropped, put down hard or, anything of that manner to the phone.
For those that came in here that haven't purchased a N4 yet, let me tell you there are many people, like myself and my wife, who received phones without any of the issues listed above.
People with issues are louder than those of us without, so while it may look like the N4 is riddled with issues...it is not as bad as it sounds in this thread.
We both have 16Gb versions, one ordered in the first batch, and one in the 2nd.
- Neither screen has yellowing of any sorts, even after playing games or watching movies for a period of time.
- Neither has creaks, squeaks, or rattles
- Neither has soft or loose buttons
- Neither has poor speakers (back or ear)
- Neither has had freezing issues on the OS or apps
- Neither has had the screen flicker
- Neither gets abnormally hot during use
- USB and 3.5mm headphone connectors are solid
- Battery lasts all day with typical use (for instance, yesterday while waiting for the Hobbit to start, I was streaming music and browsing the web for just over an hour. During that time the battery dropped 8%. To me, that's pretty damn good) (and yes, I have Google Now turned on, with the unwanted services turned off)
all that said...I'd expect my experience is pretty normal, where as those posing issues were the unlucky ones. Don't let these reviews scare you out of buying a really great device.
So does the 16 gb is enought to you? Do you think it is enough if I plan on installing like only 3 Graphic intense games then 2 to 3 HD movie length videos, productivity apps like a reader for ms word, powerpoint, camera apps, video player and such (but i think those apps does not consume much space?) then a lot of picture but would occasionally (like every 3 months) store them on PC?
my back speaker pops something serious at random times when all the way up but dear god this screen is beautiful
Rattling sound + i dont believe volume buttons will live long .....but haters gonna hate... Still best phone ever had

[Q] Verizon G2 Rattles When Shaken: Problem?

My G2 makes a rattling sound when shaken, but only in certain situations. When holding my phone normally, with the screen facing me, and shake the device away from and towards myself, I don't hear anything. However if shaken up-down or side-side, I hear a plastic, rattling noise that seems to come from around the camera. Is this normal, or do I have something to be concerned about? I keep pressure on all buttons, and even the SIM card tray, and still hear it.
Broken or loose IOS?

Ive noticed this as well. I've also noticed a vibration from the earpiece area while talking on the phone. The top of the phone resonates if I thump it. :-/

No, I've just learned to live with it, I would like to RMA it, but I certainly don't want to PAY to RMA it, which I'm guessing would be the end result. I'm fairly sure it has to do with the OIS, because my camera seems MUCH more sensitive to movement when taking pics now. I wish I had another G2 available to take some comparison photos with to try and verify it
Mine does it. (D802, not Verizon)
Looked in the mirror, was the camera shaking (not much)
Guess it's because it's loose when not in use. It can move afterall since this phone has physical camera stabilization.
Even my expensive Nikon says this rattling noise. Tbh I see no problem.

Seems like the Z1's are tearing apart

As soon as I got my Z1 I started hanging out in the Z1 section on XDA and I have noticed quite a few people with problems like the flaps falling off or the phone being water damaged. My friend got his Z1 about 2 weeks ago, he's not really a tech guy and only uses his phone for Facebook texts and calling but yesterday his phone just shut off for no reason on 82% and couldn't for the life of him start the phone up so he called me and I just randomly suggested for him to hold the power and volume up button for 10 seconds whilst having the phone connected to a charger and voila it worked.
What I am trying to say is that it feels like the Z1 has quite a few flaws, software as well as the hardware.
Don't get me wrong, I still love my Z1 and wouldn't trade for any other phone right now.
And there are people whose flaps don't fall off and go swimming with their Z1 without any probs or so they claim.
Anecdotes. They work both ways

Hey man,
I own my z1 for 3 months already and I've tried everything on my Z1 (including swimming). I don't find any problems on my phone, so perhaps he should ask Sony to check out his phone as he is still in the warranty I assume?
Cheers! Z1 the best.
I'm not sure what some of those people are doing to their Z1. My Z1 has been great to me so far. Also noticed a few people complaints the battery life sucks which I think is a false accusation because I use my Z1 to listen to music at work 6-8 hours a day together with constant texting, facebooking, some youtube/netflix activities, some gaming here and there and I would still have 40% or more battery life at the end of the day without stamina mode activated. With stamina mode activated from full charge I was able to use the phone with similar activities for 2 days and 9 hours before having to charge it at 1% left. The only complaint I have about this phone is the lack of "manual" controls in Manual mode for the Camera app. I wish it would let me manually adjust my shutter speed, and aperture. Though I have a DSLR for real photography it just great to have those adjustment on hand for when I don't have my DSLR with me. After all the Z1 posses great potential. Also it gets pretty warm sometime while using google chrome. Hopefully in kitkat update Sony will greatly improve the camera app or at least will get to it in the near future.
I haven't try the waterproof capability yet as I don't get warranty since I bought the phone 2nd hand. I'll let that happens more naturally like the other members

What I thought about the flaps when I got it: There sturdy and there not in danger of falling off.
Now: After roughly 1 month of pulling the flaps out. They have gotten considerably weaker and I do believe it would fall off eventually so I bought a dock. Much better experience for my phone.
Used the flaps once and that was to insert sim and sd I haved never charged through micro usb I use the magnetic dock charger and it seems to charge faster than usb (done a test with my mate and his z1 both from 1%) overall im happy with device mind you this is my second on as tye microphone stopped working on first one

By the way I also don't have a case for this phone, I did get an aluminium bumper case for it, that was great but I got fed up of the added bulk and when holding it the edges dug into my fingers and caused mild discomfort so I reverted to the naked Xperia Z1. So far so good. No case for a month now. It has one or two very mild scratches on the back but there to very very hard to see. But I still have the screen protector on the back I'm not worried. In comparison I dropped my Galaxy S3 a few days after I got it and the sides scratched, the silver paint came off. I've never dropped this because it's not nearly as slippery as my i9300.

My Z1 is perfect, I have XU, XS and I'll buy Z2 when Sony release it - never had any problems with Xperia's.
I just love that devices...
Screen is perfect, touchscreen problems?-never had something like that...
Battery is awesome (2-2,5 days without any problems)
Flaps are great, although, I'm using magnetic charger, my device is often connected to PC (for developing/theming) and they are still great.
I'm sorry to hear that someone has problems with this device but I must repeat - I have/had many Xperia devices and all of them is/was perfect

Keep in mind that I only said that my Z1 has the flaps problem, they are getting weaker and weaker everytime.
Also one question to all of you saying that you're using magnetic charger, so just because we have a magnetic charger does it mean that it's ok for Sony to make the flaps the way they are right now? The flaps are there so you can open and close them, that doesn't mean that we shouldn't use them just because there is a magnetic charger.
I've had my phone since October and opened and closed the USB flap at least once a day. It's still fine.
FOr me i think it's still depend on your luck
no problems here either, this is one of the best made phones I've ever seen. Definitely no more issues with this phone than any other.

[FIX][C6902/C6903][NON-ROOT]Sony Xperia Z1 touchscreen issue fix

Hey everyone,
For those of you who has the incredibly annoying touchscreen issue with your Xperia Z1.
I've discovered that Sony X-Reality engine for mobile is the cause of the problem.
How to fix:
1)Go to Settings
2)Go to Display
3)Uncheck X-Reality for mobile
Done
This worked for me so far (I have C6903)
so please test it on your handset to see if it works for you too.
This look like the people saying that Cursor Speed set up to low speed fix the touch screen..LOL..
X-Reality is an image enhancement so I really don't know what it have to do with the touch screen issue, like the Cursor Speed.
I think is placebo only.
Also, when X-Reality was on the screen could not register more than 7 touches at once.
After I turned X-Reality off it was able to register up to 10 touches like it was supposed to.
x-fake is sh*t anyways. turn it off and you actually get better image quality instead of the more than amoled saturation anyways

touchscreen issue?! Hmm my works okay so far...it works like the sh**y screen from my xj so i havent recognized any issues...
I had touch issue too. Phone works fine but after 15-20 min it gets heated up and ghost touch happens everywhere and i wont be able to use the phone at all. After fighting with them regarding this for a month they accpted that its a hardware issue and replaced my phone.
i give it a try .. i will come back with opinions after few days. thanks
This works for me also, wierd stuff....
Will try more later, but already with that X-reality turned off it feels much more responsive.
Might be placebo though, it probably is since X-reality shouldn't have ANYTHING impacting the actual screen touch
I unchecked xreality as soon as I got the phone, it didn't stop me getting the touch screen issue.
I have however not experienced it on kitkat yet but that might be because I use the phone less than before.

It was placebo.
This does not work and does nothing for you, if you believe this then you are stupid. I have tried the usual tests and it's exactly the same as before.

Because it didn't work for your phone doesn't mean it won't work for everybody. And you have no right to tell people who are trying to fix their phone "stupid." Sony's kernel has problems regarding the screen and unless you replace the kernel you'll still get issues. I created this account just to let people know that this exists, and I'm glad that it actually worked for some people. For me, even after the X-Reality is off I get a couple of misplaced touches when the screen is on for over 40 mins, but as far as I've seen it is only fixable by root methods or replacing the kernel. When X-Reality was on I was not able to touch the screen properly 5-10 minutes after it was on.
As you can see from the quote below it actually works for some of us Xperia Z1 users. If it doesn't work for you try replacing the kernel. If that doesn't work too, you have to face that your phone is defected and you have a hardware problem. No one is to blame but Sony in this case.

Man you are a life saver! My phone was almost ridiculous to use. I thought I needed to take the anti shatter film off and put a glass protector on because it may have been the issue. Why in the world would Sony let x reality mess with the screen sensitivity?
Thank you so much!

It seems to me that the touchscreen starts acting up when my hands are sweaty, has anyone else noticed this? If it starts acting up I just wipe it on my shirt and it seems to go back to normal.

Explain more about fixing it with a new kernel, never heard about that
I finally found the fix. The phone develops an issue over time. I bet any of you with the issue did not have a problem until later on which is my case. Yes it has something to do with the sensitivity but the major culprit is something that gets scratched up super easy.
Yes, the anti shatter film. I removed mine two days ago and used a zenus oleophobic screen protector. It has not felt this good since it was new.
My opinion the deep scratches in the anti shatter film allow dirt and sweat to get in and makes the phone go crazy. Most of my touch screen problems happened when I was typing. They never happened when I was scrolling. This is the fix for sure. Also x reality does seem to help until I did the swap.

The kernel's primary function is to manage the computer's hardware and resources and allow other programs to run and use these resources. Which means that the kernel enables the OS to communicate with the processor, memory, and IO devices including the touchscreen. If the kernel doesn't perceive the input coming from the hardware correctly, issues like the touchscreen issue in this case would appear.
I haven't tried it myself since the X-Reality fix -mostly- did it for me, but you can replace the stock kernel with another one to see if the kernel has the fault or not. You need an unlocked bootloader for it. Doomkernel is one of the popular xperia kernels since it provides many functionalities. Link below.

Hi all,
Posting this in the hope that people are still looking for some answers for this problem. I have a Z1 and for me it's not the anti shatter film ( removed it for this reason ), x reality, any settings in any menu and a glass or plastic screen protector does not help and modifying the clearpad.idc file only relieves it slightly. I have tried custom kernels and different rom's to no avail. But I have found an interesting quirk - the problem will ALWAYS appear while playing games and just as an experiment I installed Smart Screen. I set it to turn off / on ONLY the screen when I swipe a finger over the proximity sensor ( turned off phone locking ). While playing games and the problem appears I flick my thumb over the sensor to quickly turn screen off and on and the problem disappears ( until the next time ). While I'm not a programmer in any way it almost seems to me like a screen controller / buffer issue.
Since I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere I hope that it might provide an insight for someone skilled that could possibly design a fix.

does z2 has touch problems?

im now on z1... and i have that problem when touch screen takes life of its on and starts to go around -.-
same thing is on z1s and z2 tablet...
how about z2 the phone?
so far so good?
Any liquid on screen creates this problem for me with th Z2. It does not matter if its moister, sweat or rain drops they make the screen cray cray only way out is to wipe the screen.
Not only..when i chat more than 20 minutes some of my finger touches are not recognized and i must to touch the screen with my other hand to rec.it.. its strange.. .314.. hope Sony will fix it. (hope its not something with the metal frame and sensor confusion).

This is true of every capacitive touch screen I have ever used.

I owned Z2 and Z2 Tab. If you leave so munch oil or finger-print on your screen it will cause touch problem, wipe out and everything is fine.
You may try tempered glass or mate screen protector to reduce this problem.
This is exactly why I never wanted to give up my slide out keyboard phone. I wish more people were like me, I kept holding out for someone to make a respectable keyboard phone but I guess there's no market. I am not a fan of using the touch screen for entering text and numbers. Today was a prime example, my morning was rushed and I am fumbling to try an enter a new hires phone number. So frustrating, I swear it was the 15th try that I finally got it! Here I am fumbling with a phone while trying to direct workers to their tasks and deal with production and management at the same time.

still holding ontu my n900 and n950... my z1 died and got new under warranty... wanna sell it and go for z2 if it doesnt have touch problems like z1...
rocking n950 for now...
yes it does
thats my z2 has ghost touch i dunno what to do to fix it yet
old firmwares seem to bring up alot of ghost touches
i had very little on 314 firmware
also on my older units, i had them regardless of the firmware
I remember back when I had .55 the screen sensitivity was pretty bad, especially during phone calls when it suddenly turns on when it shouldn't, also double tap to wake wasn't as responsive. After upgrading to .314 it seemed to fix those problems
I had this problem with my Z2, too.
Then, after an unlucky drop, my screen was broken, so I got the screen repaired. After approx. a week my screen got more and more its own life. At the end the phone was totally unuseable. The repair shop replaced the screen again, since then it just apperars from time to time like before.
I think Sony has some issues with these screens. My S2 which I had before the Sony had never such issues, even if the screen was quite dirty. Maybe thats why they introduced the Z3 so fast?
Here you can see the "amok screen". I enabled "Show touch" in the developer options.

Really strange, since I have never had that problem with my unit,
by the way, just for curiosity, how much have you paid for repair and where have you done it?

Paid for repair 225€ at a shop in Berlin. No official repair shop, in this case it would have been about 350€. However, it is no longer waterproof.
But they replaced the defective (ghost operated) screen without any questions at no cost.

Kinda too much, but then again Sony in Serbia replaced my back cover for 50e, but when I come to think about it, it's probably because the average salary here is around 300e
