Returned My G3 For Refund After Seeing The.. - G3 General

Well.. It's gone.
I only got one "Overheat" msg in my 13 days with the G3.. And using the ONite batteries I purchased from Amazon increased overall duration of the device..
But then I went to BestBuy and seen first hand the SuperAmoled Screen of the Samsung Galaxy Note 4...
I Immediately went home packed up my G3 and returned it for refund.
With the $200.00 rebate directly from Samsung if you pre-order before October 17th and send in ANY old working smartphone, it made for a great deal for me.
Quite frankly, I don't care if T-Mobile even decides to lock down the Note 4.. The Screen IMO is the most Stunning Screen ever to be put in a Smartphone to date.. and I could live with it stock and just enjoying content on the Note 4.
I'll miss the style and size of the G3 ( which has no equal in that respect ) but SuperAmoled wins my dollars over Backlit LCD.. even if the Note 4 will cost me $100.00 more.. There were no issues of Touchwiz lag whatsoever in my 30 minutes with the device and "Gapgate" was not present on the any of the display models including the Note Edge. If you are even thinking of making the switch for your own personal reasons,
My Suggestion is.. Do It.

Unlocked now lol

Well AMOLED will definitely look better to most people, although it is not the most natural. I am going to wait for the Nexus 6 to be released and if it is a smaller size than 5.5" (from what I have read there are reports from 5.2" to even 6") then I will probably sell my G3 to get it.
I am still waiting for a bootloader solution and a variety of custom ROM's esp AOSP ones but I think it is not going to come and I expect the Nexus 6 will be easy if not unlocked by Google themselves for the dev community.

Please close this thread.
We don't care about you selling it and buying a Samsung instead...

As much as you want to disagree with Displaymate's claims, you can't argue with factual measurements/charts unless you're delusional.

Or you think they are lying..

AMOLED definitely has its pros and cons. Extremely dark and deep blacks (so dark the pixels are off) but the colors are way too saturated. So yeah, depending on one's own personal preference, it can be really good or atrociously bad. I personally prefer more natural colors.

People still buy SamSh!t phones?

I am aware of the AOSP ROM out but I am more concerned about the bootloader being unlocked so we can all flash ROMs through CMW/TWRP instead of all this kdz, Odin etc stuff and having a reboot persistent ROM on all G3 versions (well my D855 at least!). I was used to doing this with my SGS and it was piss easy so having to deal with all this stuff, I just don't have the time to try all it out.
Tbh, since I had been forced to use the LG stock ROM, it's not actually that bad compared to CM11.2 and I don't mind it now but it does lag (for a high spec flagship) and could do with some optimisation.
**Sorry, I have just been told on another thread that the custom ROM's being introduced now actually do persist through reboots so that is exactly what I wanted! I'm gonna try it out this weekend and hopefully find the fix for the lagging.

Dude the bootloader thing is already unlocked how havnt you found out. Lmao

I used to think AMoled was awesome, i like how black it is, but now i see the colour on other phones its way to intense.

Everyone is entitled to his or her opinion...
Why are so many of you so defensive about your device?... Buyer's Remorse maybe???
Shouts of "CLOSE THE THREAD" make you sound like your feelings are hurt.. I did not start this thread to start an argument. If you are happy with YOUR G3 then good.. So.. why are some making comments just short of name calling..
This is MY experience with the G3 vs the Note 4..
I feel the N4 is a Superior Device.. it's "The" device to have for 2014 IMO.. But, no device is all things to all people.. I enjoyed my time with the G3.. but the somewhat cloudy screen and low brightness really come to light when placed next to the Note 4.. That's A Fact. couple that with the overheating issues well... you get the picture.
But calm down... they are just telephones.

"Upgrade" from Froyo'd Nexus One to Galaxy S?

I have to admit my eye's been caught by this little beauty. The screen is the big attraction for me, particularly the size and the proper multitouch.
For anybody who's had experience with both the Galaxy S and the Nexus One with Froyo, would it be a good decision to trade in my Nexus and get the Galaxy?
I own the nexus outright with no contract, and I'm due an upgrade so could get the Galaxy for minimal expenditure, although stuck then on a 2 year contract.
I'm slightly disappointed about the lack of a camera flash on the Galaxy, although it's not something I ever use much.
Any thoughts?
I'm in exactly the same boat as you.
If they say it'll get froyo soon, or if I see some comprehensive dev going on, I'll probably get it, but I'm still very worried about Gingerbread. Samsung track record on updates is abysmal, right now I'd be shocked if we got it.
There is a lot of talk over the lack of a flash, although as a keen photographer I really don't understand why. Having a flash right next to the lens is the worst place for it anyway.
Besides, it all detracts from the fact that the lens and sensor on the Galaxy S are remarkably good for a mobile phone class of camera, the colour and exposure are very good, and produce very usable results. The lens itself goes down to F2.8 so works well in low light situations, and the screen is bright enough that you can see what you're photographing in bright sunlight, these are far more useful to me than a little LED thats going to put horrible highlights on peoples faces and in their eyes
This is a pic I posted in another thread, taken on the Galaxy S, and is completely untouched apart from a 50% reduction. The colour and exposure are exactly as they were captured. The white balance is spot on, the saturation is good although a little heavy in the greens. Its in focus and reasonably sharp.

Although if you plan to be photographing drunk mates in the pub late at night, then yeah you probably need a flash and dont care so much about image quality, because such pics are never very flattering
Right now, if you have 2.2, you might miss some of the extra features, but the Sammy is gonna get 2.2 soon too, and then there'll be no comparison. I dont have a Nexus One, but I've used the Galaxy S and an HTC Desire side by side, and there is no comparison, am soo glad I waited

thanks for your impressions and image.
from the shots ive seen the camera quality does indeed appear to be above most mobile phone cameras. for me, the pictures are quite nice considering it is a phone camera and readily available at all times.
the flash would have been a nice addition, but the same as trav, i wouldnt use it all that often, and agree that phone flashes are weak to begin with and dont add all that much.

I'm pretty sure we'll get 2.2 on this phone... Samsung said they'll do it, but their word counts for very little obviously after the Behold 2. But market pressure should make them upgrade it. The question really is about Gingerbread. I know the Nexus One is going to get that, but who here can say they expect Samsung to rewrite Touchwiz for an update designed for UI upgrades? That's the real problem here. I can't be sure if this phone has as much future support as the Nexus One.
The Nexus has a flash camera, which is important, but it looks like in every other hardware regard, the Galaxy S wins out. It's all about software now.
youtube. com /watch?v=xAqZ5Hk96QY
I don't know whether I'm being naive, but I'd assumed that by the time gingerbread comes out, the galaxy will be well and truely rooted and it'll be a matter of the necessary community existing to put new versions of android on it.
I do have a slight suspicion that the Nexus One is the better bet in the longer term, but the Galaxy looks so tasty right now!
However, given the shelf life of phones these days, the question will probably be irrelevant in 6 months time when we'll be looking at the latest 2ghz dual-core multi-camera behemoths.
What I'm really wondering is - if the Galaxy S is a significant enough upgrade over the Nexus to make it worthwhile - to be a noticable improvement day to day.
Very good question austinchimp!
If you are hesitating about buying this phone, I would suggest you to wait because if it does not have the features you've always wanted on a phone, sooner or later you'll continue to search for a different phones. That is an expensive strategy. I've waited pretty long for a phone as the SGS, and I don't regret buying it. I don't care about the hype of Iphone 4 or HTC Evo 4G, I love my Sammy.
Hmm interesting, looks like there is no touchwiz 3.0. Although all other samsung apps are there. Is it going to be end for custom UIs?
here is a photo i took the other day indoors with no flash just a light on.. great photo with this camera.

Does anyone speak enough Italian to understand what they're actually saying? Is it not just showing a hacked-on "Froyo style" launcher thing rather than a Froyo update from Samsung?
It's not froyo. It's Eclair running without that much of the touchwiz interface. The notification bar still has the touchwiz though.

iPhone 4 screen is amazing.

I have an HTC Inspire. I love the size of the screen and under normal circumstances am never unhappy with the picture quality. Until I use my buddys iPhone 4. No matter how much time has passed, everytime I pick up the IPhone it makes me feel bad about the quality of my screen.
Well the reason I am posting this here is because I have been patiently waiting for the sgs2 to come out here in America so that I can finally have a device with all the specs that I want. Most importantly the screen. I have never actually seen a Super Amoled Plus screen so I was hoping to get some insight.
I know the iPhone actually has a higher resolution, but the sub pixel density on the new Amoled Plus screens is higher. I just like the overal pop of the amoled screens in general and think it looks better than traditional displays. Can anyone who owns both devices give an honest opinion of which they think looks better quality wise.
It would be great to grab my buddys phone someday and say "meh, looks ok".

I just came from an iphone 4, and while the screen was my favorite thing about the iphone, i have had absolutely no regrets after switching the sgs2. Actually, i think the retina display is crap compared to the amoled. The colors are so much crisper and holding the screen a foot away from eyes will get you pretty close to the retina display effect.

I don't have an iPhone 4 myself, but here in Singapore enough people own them (90% of the population uses an iPhone 4 according to surveys), so I have plenty of contact with them. For me, the SAMOLED+ just slightly edges out the iPhone's retina display. The colours are fantastic, but I do love the pixel density on the retina too.
That said, as far as memory serves the retina display is not slouch at colours too. You want bad? Try the iPhone 3GS. The colours were GODAWFUL on that one.
I just hope that we will get SAMOLED+ Retina on a future Samsung device. And that might not be that far away, if the rumors of a 4.5 inch 720p SAMOLED+ is true.
I came from the iPhone 4. I will say that the retina display is insane. Looking at HQ photos and video you cannot see one single pixel. SGS II comes close but you can spot pixels if you look close enough. It is very crisp and clear though and the brightness and color density more than makes up for it

I couldn't agree more.
At first I thought it was a giganta-phone. But having been a phone owner since 1991 (when they used to cost real money), I must say the Note cleverly nudges the envelope.
My other smartphones look like wee toys.
My tablets look like laptops with their balls cut off.

And on the subject, a 5.5" or 5.7" is NOT at all in my opinion a big upgrade from the Note. Or atleast for those who already bought or planning to buy the Note since I haven't heard/read any rumors or anything about any phones in the 5.5-6.5" category.
Now a 6" android phone? With a Dual/Quad SoC with oled/amoled screen? YES SIR!
I was using 7" galaxy tab but its too big .i think if they keep the size og GN but make the screen lil bigger that would be enough for a phone..

I don't think so. It would kill pocketability. You can squeeze in a little more by killing all the hardware buttons, but this is close to the limit.
The pocketability is great now, but we haven't had people putting cases on yet. Bigger+CASE? Ugh.

Well I respect your opinion but for me it's different.
I measured my usual pockets(costumes/jeans) and they are 19cm deep(Jeans) and 17cm(costumes pants) when sitting. So I can staff in there any phone below the above sizes before it's top/bottom emerges.
Oh and both pocket's are abount 12cm wide.
Yeah, we all have many different clothes that it will not fit(maybe same goes for GNote) but making a statement here.
So a 6" GNote look alike phone based on my measurements consisting of H:160mm x W: 92-94mm is really the actual maximum size of pocketability for me.
BUT: Practical? Manageable? Easy to use? Good for a bit of longer than usual calling etc, etc? Nuh, I don't think so.
But then again.. I don't call/speak on the phone much!
Edit: It's not THAT bigger!

Display issues, banding, lines and distortions.

I sold my used phone for 550$, which is now the average selling price for brand new one. I bought at 680$ a few months back. The reason I had bought it is to act has a dual purpose device and omit buying a tablet and new phone. For that purpose, it does its job well but Samsung really cheapened out on the materials and slacking on software updates.
Got myself a brand new Galaxy Nexus for only 350$ (price error) and I find 10x better than Galaxy Note. I will never buy any other android phone if it's not from the Nexus line. I love the Nexus modern design and feel and progressive updates directly from Google. I use to have a Nexus S which was the THE phone that lured me away from my BB.
Good luck with the rest of you, I hope it brings you happiness as it did for me for a few months. Now I migrate to Nexus sub-forums.

Good Luck Mate!
I migrated from GNexus to GNote. I wouldn't give my reasons, as It would obviously start a disagreement here at the forums. I'm 10x Happier with the Note, except for the ICS part.
From My Nexus Experience,
= Use the GNexus Toolkit to Flash the ICS 4.0 Latest version (With Wallet, because the Other gave me errors). Before flashing, Make sure to get Root Access and Unlock Bootloader. If Flashing produces errors, or gives you bootloops, Erase the existing firmware using Manual Dos Commands in Fastboot mode. Relock the Bootloader after flashing, if you hate seeing the Padlock sign. For everything, Use the GNexus Toolkit, I think its a sticky in the development forum.
Have fun!
We obviously don't care about your opinion and are very happy to see go one less whiner is good for everyone else on this forum.
S-Pen scratches screen.- There's a thing called screen protectors. Use one.
Can't use with one hand.- Samsung included a one-hand operation keyboard if that's what you mean.
Display issues, banding, lines and distortions.- Supercurio is working on a fix and can be semi-fixed by setting screen mode to dynamic.
Heavy- Really? This phone is barely heavier than the iPhone 4S. You must be a weak man, work out!
Battery drains too quickly- Ahaha. yeah right
Flimsy battery cover- Flimsy or flexible? The Nexus uses the same one bro, just curved. And there are aluminum ones you can buy.
ICS upgrade taking too long- Have you tried custom roms, I mean this XDA where you get the latest and the greatest.
Price is tanking too fast- This one is the funniest one of all, the GNexus price is the one that is falling. A new GNexus on the Play Store is sold for $399 no contract, while a used N7000 will sell for $540.
Phone feels slower than Gnexus when it has better hardware.- I think you have a placebo effect going on.
TouchWiz crap- Custom roms? I wonder if you've ever used one?
Migrated from SGS2 to Note, and surely I feel this is better upgrade. The major deciding factor for me is the screen, if you need the biggest screen out there, you have to be here. Each to his own though....good luck
it'll be funny when he used Gnexus for a week and then think to himself, 'why the heck did I sell my Note? '
What's more funny is to see ppl using Xda forum yet not trying out new roms.
And I cannot see the Nexus have a better battery life than the Note. Stock wise.

Haha. You're just embarrassing yourself in front of everyone here. I can promise you there's nobody else thinking the Nexus is an "upgrade". All the reasons you gave just showed you're an imbecile.

I gave my old SGS to my brother and bought a GNote, new each time my brother ask me to help him solving a problem in his SGS, it looks very small and I feel myself struggled, but when I hold my GNote I take a deep breath.
It's like we say "Who wants to kill his dog, accuses it of rabies"

Galaxy S II is still a better option.
And it is also handy
Compatible ROMS, Kernels and Open Development for S II would be a plus point too!

Doesn't the Nexus have the same banding problems? It's the same screen tech. Anyway, most of the OP's reasons are kinda stupid. And the s-pen scratching the screen??? The screen can't be scratched by plain steel, the s-pen's plastic nub isn't gonna do a thing.

Big disappoiment Nexus 6

I got my new nexus 6 and im very disappointed and let down. At first I thought it was going to be better than the note 4 but it really isn't. Does not feel premium at all, instead it feels cheap, kinda like samsung phones. The blue color that tmobile offers is really ugly, like seriously, midnight blue? Aside from the fact that it has a big screen, it does not offer absolutely nothing, it has zero features to take advantage of the big screen. It doesn't have phablet features to help with the size. The screen is a huge let down it is not even a joke. The iphone 6 has a better screen. The speakers aren't loud but the sound is clear. The camera still blows as usual. I can't believe Google hasn't done anything to improve it. I can't comment on the battery just yet but I'm thinking that it would suck. The ambient display will suck the living out of it. Having said all that, I'm torn to pieces. I'm returning it tomorrow

Uh OK. You obviously don't have the phone. One thing about the x14 and n6 is they feel very premium. Almost wish they were a little more light and less premium as it comes across slippery. Very well made phones. Now move on....

Saw it at T-Mobile store today. Definitely does not feel premium. I'd say the In quality and styling it would be The Note 4 in first place, then the IPhone 6 Plus, then last the Nexus 6. The matte back is a greasy fingerprint magnet like a previous phone I had the Moto G. The screen does look pretty nice and the speakers on the front do sound good and loud. But I'll be sticking with my IPhone 6 Plus.

Cool story, bro.
Give it 3-4 weeks and we'll weed out all the people who pre-ordered just because it was hyped.
I don't like metal phone such as htc one m8 I had for 6-7 month and I really was scared to drop it or scratch it. Plastic phones forever for me. So I not worried about how the phone feels. I am going to get the N6 no matter what

Yup. This is pretty common with every new device release. Within the first month, threads usually pop up stating how they're disappointed with x device and thinking about going back to the phone they already owned or moving onto another.

This!
For those new to XDA, it has been known that once a hot new device hits the market, XDA will be flooded with opinions, assumptions, and disappointments....it never gets old.
Move on people.
Call bullsh!t without pictures. Sounds like a troll from the start.
While its perfectly fine to be disappointed with a phone and want to tell people about it, there is a much better way to do so then what was posted in the OP. Perhaps a constructive breakdown and examples of what is disappointing? The way the OP is laid out, it will only start issues.
