Youtube 1080p and 1440p disappeared - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When I first got my note4 a few days ago I can choose 1080p or 1440p in youtube app. Yesterday I tried again but only 720p max can be chosen. I am sure the video is 4k support, and I tried both wifi and 4g connections too. I also tried delete the youtube update, clear youtube app data but no help.
Anyone met the same and any solution?

It is a problem of youtube.

It's has nothing to do with that. Google apparently removed the options in last update. You can read all the comments in you tube app.

This might work for you: http://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/2ic1zp/google_took_away_1080p_option_on_the_youtube_app/

Latest version of the Youtube app 5.14.5 gives 1080p option back but still lacking 1440p for QHD devices, guess were still waiting on google to fix this.
Its a staged rollout so if it doesn't appear in the play store yet for you can always sideload the apk via http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/youtube/youtube-5-14-5-apk/
So far so good working fine for 1080p, I had to wipe cache & data in the application manager after updating to get 1080p option to show up.

This worked for me, no 2k yet. I tried a differently method that is used for the LG G3 for 1440p but no matter how many times I tried it didn't work

Hmm downloaded the update from the link cleared data and cache, tried changing build.prop to 4.4.2, tried following the Reddit post and still only see 720p really bums me out not being able to watch in at least 1080p with a freakin 1440p screen
Edit: Rebooted and cleared cache and data and now see 1080p now just for 1440p to start working

I also try to use root explorer to delete system \ app\ youtube.apk, reboot, and then re-install v.5.9.0.13, also clear data and cache, but the 1440p menu is not show, can you also share the tested youtube video link for me ?

1080p disappeared last night. Again Google doing something on their end causing this. Now I'm stuck on 720 for the time being.

i have 1080 on my note 3 but not on note 4,another reason i hate the note 4...

My wife has sony z3 still having 1080p option... Only note4 is affected.

No solution for this problem yet?

I updated the firmware and cleared youtube app data.
And now I see 1080p option (but nothing above that).
Don't know what solved the problem - update or clearing app data.
At least we have 1080p now.

[Q] latest youtube update issue

After getting the latest youtube update i noticed that there is an image in the middle of my screen. (I think its the screen mirroring image) and it will not go away and is annoying when watching videos
is there a way to get rid of it without having to uninstall the updates?

I think this might be the issue as well, I'm running the latest YouTube app and my screen mirroring icon is the proper location. Is there something preventing you from reinstalling the app? or perhaps clearing the it's cache and seeing if that fixes it.
I'm having this problem too.
It only occurs when using bluetooth speaker or headphones.
The icon is at the correct location when not using bluetooth though.
Any help?

[GUIDE] Fix maximum resolution for YouTube (1080p, 1440p)

Hey guys, i was trying really hard to get youtube with the maximum resolution supported by the Note 4 but so far the only way was using a hack into the build.prop but that hack kills S-Note so i didn't want to keep it. Anyway playing tonight with the phone i was able to find a little trick of how to get this working as expected while keeping S-Note.
Let's start with the guide.
My Info:
1. Android 4.4.4, RAPTURE 1.0 by iB4STiD
2. KT-Note 4 Kernel by ktoonsez with SELinux permissive.
Requirements:
1. Root
2. Xposed Framework 2.6+
3. Titanium Backup or any system app remover
Guide:
1. First, you need to get rid of the current youtube app that you have installed, so go the Settings > Application Manager > All > Find YouTube > Click on it, then click on Force stop, click on clear cache, clear data and finally uninstall. (If you don't have the option to uninstall it but you have the option to turn it off then go to step 2)
2. Open Titanium Backup and search for youtube, long press over it and select the option to uninstall it, after this you should not have any youtube app in your device.
3. Install this YouTube App: YouTube 5.18.5 and don't open it
4. Open Xposed Framework, and click in Download, then search for YourTube (with the R after You and before Tube) and download the last version, after it installs don't reboot, search again this time for YouTube AdAway and download the last version.
5. Go to Xposed Framework again, and click in Modules, select YourTube and YouTube AdAway.
6. Reboot the phone
7. Open YourTube and change the following settings: Maximum default quality = 1440p, Override device support (check the box)
8. Open YouTube AdAway and select the following settings: Hide Ads and Hide logo and suggestions
9. Reboot the phone
10. Open YouTube and enjoy the Note 4 resolution.

Please let met know if this does work for you guys.
Did not work for me. I followed your instructions and used the following versions.
Youtube 5.18.5 (your provided link)
YourTube 1.2.4
Youtube AdAway 2.1.3
My Info:
Android 4.4.4, DynamicKat 2.0 NJ7 by bri315317
Thanks for your attempt. I hope this gets solved soon :crying:
This sucks. Especially because the 5.18.5 version is supposed to fix higher resolution for the g3 note 4 and nexus 6... But they're still not working. What's going on google?

Use the APK i put in my post not the one from play store, also sometimes it requires more reboots, in my case it was working but i opened the yourtube app and youtube adaway and it stopped working but after i rebooted it started working again. Also i attached more screenshots showing what xposed modules i have installed.

I tried this method and youtube and I could only get 720. I did however see another thread that had another method to acquire 2160 res and to my luck it worked but at the expense of my snote for some reason. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2950682 not to say this won't work I'm saying if you can't get it this way maybe like me this other method could work. Credit to the author here and in the other thread thank them for the leg work.

Ok, following the OP directions, and installing the linked YouTube, which was a newer version than I had installed or available on the play store (as of today's date anyway). I only got 720p...
HOWEVER
By reading the post linked in the quote above, I edited to build.prop to read version 5.0 instead of 4.4.4, and I instantly got 1440p. And as far as I can tell, snote is still working (though I don't use snote, so I'm just launching it and verifying it doesn't crash)
Here's what I changed in build.prop
5. Open build.prop
6. Change the line at ro.build.version.release=4.4.4 to ro.build.version.release=5.0 and save

YouTube app play back with screen off

Hi does anyone have a apk for YouTube so I can playback with the screen off thanks
Try Viral:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.Mata.YTplayer
It has 1mil downloads, but it looks like the recent update from YouTube makes it crash.
Ok thanks so much
Just downloaded it yup I can confirm it crashes any other suggestions thanks
that's weird, it works perfect on mine.
make sure it's on hardware acceleration under settings.
and try setting the video resolution to 360p.
Ok I will try that thanks
I've been using this one for a long time. Still works great for me. Just remember to refuse the update (every once and a while when you start the app it will say a newer version is available on app store, just say no...)

It was the first thing I did.
I managed to make it work again by installing the module "liboemcrypto disable".
Now I can watch films, but the max resolution will be HD, but I'm still happy with this.
friend, where I get the module "liboencrypto disable" and how I install it.
I have the same problem
you can also rename the liboemcrypto.so to liboemcrypto.so.bak in the root folder and it will allow you to use the app
