[Q] installing Tmobile rom to i337 - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Currently I have a i337 galaxy s4 which I am using with tmobile sim card. I made it unlocked by ATT before I switched to tmobile. It has baseband UFNI1 and Android 4.4.2 installed. I managed to get it rooted using the Odin software, so I can use the tethering with the tmobile.
Now I am trying to find a way to use the Wi-Fi calling. I searched it a lot and figured out that I need a tmobile rom installed but it quickly got very confusing. It looks like what you need to do also depends on what android version you are using. For some you need safestrap, change the kernel for some you don't. For some you have Wi-Fi issues and need to change the modem etc.
So, I am trying to find the easiest and safest way that will make the Wi-Fi calling work. I don't necessarily need the very latest android version or the fancy custom roms etc,I only need something that will work without any issues. I am perfectly fine with a tmobile stock Rom if that's the most convenient way.
So,I would really appreciate if someone can help me on this. It would be great to have a set of noob friendly instructions. Thanks a lot.

Hi There,
Were you able to root your device for Wifi Calling. I followed the instructions of http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...nvert-i337-to-m919-wifi-caling-t2896719/page6 and went into the same issue. After TMOBILE stock rom, the phone does not boot. I was able to install the first rom and then able to get onto the latest version and able to use phone again with AT&T latest software update (android 5.0.1). Actually, this is the version I have when I started rooting.
If you find any solution, please let me know as I am on the same boat with you on installing TMOBILE ROM using the other thread.
thanks
Ram

You cannot install a T-Mobile stock ROM to an AT&T device. Samsung has safeguards in place to prevent it. You would need to root and then install a custom ROM, which on an AT&T is difficult to do with its encrypted bootloader.
However, this is not the appropriate location to ask this. Questions related to AT&T devices belong in the AT&T S4 forums.

[Q] Install T-Mobile M919 ROM on 9505G?

A lot of people want to do the reverse (install a 9505G ROM on a T-Mobile M919) but I want to get T-Mobile's wifi calling on my 9505G. Is it possible to install a ROM made for a M919 onto an unlocked, rooted, ClockworkMod recovery-flashed 9505G? I tried downloading a ROM from the M919 section of the forum but it never actually finishes booting. If this works and anyone has done it, I'd love to get info on how you did it. If it's not going to work at all, I'll stop trying to cram it onto my phone. If it matters, I haven't flashed a different radio or anything, just what comes in the flashable ZIPs that ROM creators upload.
Thanks!

Just install DarthStalker's rom for the i9505. Its in the Original Android Development forum. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2419809
It is for this phone and wifi-calling works. I am on T-Mobile and it works for me.

Cross ROM Flashing

I am trying to find solid answers on this before I do it, but can't find any evidence it will work, and without issue. I just want to gain my T-Mobile wifi calling, and be able to use IPv6, but the ROM that my Note 3 came with, does not allow any of this (APN protocol is perma-greyed out and of course no wifi calling).
So here's what I have: Mexican N900W8
The ROM I want to flash: N900T for T-Mobile. Stock ROM.
Can I just simply use Odin and just flash it without rooting or anything since both are stock ROMs? Or do I still need to root it?
Also, if it will just flash right over, will my phone identify itself as a N900T and get over the air updates for T-Mobile, or will it ID itself as a N900W8 still, and possibly have future update problems?
Lastly, will all the other hardware work fine without issue? Wifi (most important obviously), NFC, etc?
Thanks.
I tried looking for this kind of cross flash but could not find anything whatsoever concrete that re-assures me this will work.
I would really like an answer for this.
Can I cross flash a stock ROM or not, and in this case N900T to N900W8 without any wifi issues?

You can flash 900T ROMS on the W8, however, not via Odin. Has to be done via Custom Recovery and you still have to flash the W8 kernel for it to work. - Essentially yes, You have to root, but I don't think you can get your T-Mobile WiFi calling unless you have an actual N900T.

As radical said, you can flash it using custom recovery.
It will show up as N900T instead of N900W8, but you can change this using "build prop editor" from the Play Store.
You will not get any OTA from T-mobile, custom ROMs don't get official OTAs.
I went and got a N900T then from T-Mobile. Have a N900W8 for sale now.

[Q] Help regarding SM-G900P

Hey everyone, I been looking around the forums here and other sites and have learned a lot of info in pieces but I really need help with a particular issue. A friend of mine gave me a Sprint Galaxy SM-G900P (Galaxy S5) which is (of course) CDMA with GSM compatibility. Im unsure at the moment what service he was wanting to use but I know it is a GSM carrier (US) because he has a SIM he wanted to use. I owe him a favor so I told him I would try. Besides going the route of purchasing a unlock box and unlocking the phone with that, I discovered the SSU apk which SIM-Unlocks the phone. I downgraded the phone from Lollipop 5.0 stock to Android 4.4.2 KitKat (G900PVPU1ANE5) with ODIN. (FYI, i was stuck in download mode with no recovery mode for a week before finally getting one to work, and so happen to be that version that went through)..... I downloaded SSU and it unlocked the phone and I switched mobile network mode from CDMA to GSM Units. (NOTE: it says 4.4.2 and up will not work with USA carrier SIM cards without downgrading the Modem but I have not tried just yet) Im about to Root the phone but here is where my question comes in. I have read of people flashing roms to get their phones to work with certain carriers and other functions. Will rooting help me out at all? I guess IM asking if there is a ROM that I can flash onto the phone to enable the use of whatever carrier he is wanting to use with it. I know thats most likely useful in the situation, but Im awaiting that answer as we type. ANY help would be greatly appreciated ))) Thank you all.
Anyone? :/

SM-G920R4 US Cellular 6.0.1 Root

If anyone wants to root their US cellular S6 Smg920r4 on 6.0.1, I know there's no section here for US Cellular, but this works perfect. It's the Sprint TWRP 6.0.1 Marshmallow root method. Just follow the instructions in the Sprint thread. Root in minutes thru Odin. Hope it helps someone else like me who was looking and looking for Sm-g920r4 specific root.

I've got xposed running with a few modules that are stable and somewhat supported on marshmallow. Again it's super easy to root your stock firmware on your US Cellular SM-G920R4 Galaxy S6. If anyone has any questions, please let me know. Thanks
Twrp
My s6 won't boot into system it boots into twrp recovery. And I did make a backup of my phone with Smart Switch and now Smart Switch tells my device is not supported. Any solutions?
What firmware were you on? Were you already on 6.0.1 and did you get it fixed yet
How did you get Xposed to work? Did you have to use a custom rom? If so what one did you use?
thank
Thank to me
I'm still hesitant to pull the trigger on this. I see questions being asked about things that I don't fully feel comfortable stressing about. Was this a successful way to root or a fluke that may work for some?
how to install edge screen on s6, just like s6 edge

I was able to root my device though a youtube video by "android doctor" but was not able to get his 7.0 ROM to load on my G920R4. Does anyone have a ROM they WERE able to work on this S6 variant? Thanks

For sure. US Cellular is small beans compared to the other major companies so its always been hard to find it. This is the first device I have ever struggled to find a way to do it though. All other took work, but this one is the only one so far that has been impossible.
I was able to get his ROM loaded onto my phone but there was a spot where I had to "select CSC" and US Cellular wasn't listed as one of them. I think T-Mobile and Rogers were the only USA companies that it had. Maybe I should have tried it by selecting T-Mobile or Rogers but I just didn't really know what to do. The one that I tried (which was a UK CSC - because it mentioned something about selecting it if yours wasn't listed..but I believe it was only talking about UK companies not listed) wound up getting the ROM to load but I had NO touch screen capabilities.
After 6 hours of getting that that point and having to reload the official Samsung ROM, I gave up and went to bed.
I wish I could find someone that has been through this already to lean on for some assistance but with this phone, it seems like no one has been first. Maybe that is my purpose in life.. But then again, I also don't want to completely brick my phone in the process. Maybe I'll try again tonight.
