Home button issues - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi guys. today my galaxy s4 suddenly rebooted and now it cant get past the galaxy s4 screen on boot. it automaticly gets into this screen for several seconds, then a black screen and then again. also, when i put in the battery it automaticly starts, and gets in this loop.
i searched the forum a little and i suspect it is somthing with the home button. do i need to replace the whole display to fix thix? or what should i do.
And some important infomation, my home button is a little bent for the last 5 months, but so far it had no problems.

Have you tried to start recovery or download?
Remove the battery, wait half a minute, reinsert the battery and push at the same time Vol Up+Home+Power keys.
If that works you may wipe Cache and Dalvik Cache and maybe it will boot normally again.

yes, i have tried. first of all, my home button is bent and its impossible to press. i cant get to the recovery, but it can to download mode, and then it gets in the loop again after several seconds. it doesent work to reinsert the battery. when i insert the battery it automaticly turns on to the loop again.

Ahh...check your power button..it might be stuck for sure!
Try pressing it in various ways or open it up to see if it is stuck or not..

power button or home button..? power button looks fine but home is bent and not working for a while.

I agree with @DeepankarS. Seems your power button is stuck.
If so it is a good reason to have the bootloop. Please double check it.

there is a huge difference mate in being okay and looking okay
Thus is not the first kinda problem..the download mode rebooting is directly liked to it..because the download mode will never reboot without the power button being pressed (exceptions ignored)
Try tapping it on a flat surface too...not hard..but ya..
Or search..how people released the stuck power buttons here..

[Q] HELP! My Tab 7.7 can't boot!

Anybody knows what's wrong and how do I solve it? Here's the entire story (if it helps):
I went to Play and updated my apps. I press and held the power button and selected "restart". (I restart my device regularly) However, after shutting down, it does not boot at all and no matter how many times I press the power button it just wouldn't boot up!
I tried charging it too. Nothing happens even after plugging in.

Can you get to the boot loader, if so, try to wipe data from the recovery within the boot loader.
Or else leave the battery to drain fully , this will solve your problem and the tab will boot.
This happened to me couple of weeks ago and draining the battery solved this issue.

May I know how do I get to the bootloader? I can't even allow the battery to drain. The problem is it is not even starting at all. I pressed the power button a million times and NOTHING happens at all, the screen didn't even turn on.

You can get to the boot loader by pressing power button + volume down at the same time.
try it.

Nope. I wish it did.
Try to hold the power button in about 4 or 5 seconds. I doubt it'll do anything. It sounds like there's a problem with power button or hardware.
I had a thrive 7 before I got my gtab 7.7 and my first one I exchanged because of a problem identical to yours. It was very sketchy to power on.
Exchange or warranty if you can unless someone else has any ideas

Only alternative left to leave it till battery drains, if you can remember the battery percentage before this happens, otherwise i am out of solutions.
A service center would be an alternative choice.

I decided to give it another shot a minute ago and it miraculously worked! I have no idea what's wrong or what caused the positive issue but am happy that it is fine now. Thanks guys!

Caution: Factory Reset Warning

Im just opening this thread to let any new Galaxy S5 owners know to be very careful when trying to do a Hard Reboot by holding all the buttons down for 10 seconds (volume up and down, power key, and home key). This is known to cause a factory reset to occur upon device restart. Im currently looking into a solution to doing a reboot for an unresponsive device with out a battery pull, but for now a battery pull is the best solution.
Thanks,
Chris

it boots so it is just a soft brick.
did you try pulling out the battery for at least 10 mins before using odin?
some of my colleagues say that it automatically shuts down because
of hardware problems

Still no good sir shutting down automatically </3
It happened to me once i dont clearly recall how that happened but it was sorted out automatically. Try using a different battery from any other sgy user if you know any. And see what happens.
Edit: I just remembered It is most possible power button issue. Try to use a pin to pull out the power button. If it doesnt work then if you are okay with opening phones then rip off your galaxy y and push the power button out. Or else give it in any local repairing store they can do that for you.

Keeps resetting..help please..

Greetings fellow geeks.
i have a problem with this i9500..
it was working fine, suddenly it resets.
it keeps resetting every 4 seconds.
won't let me go to recovery.
i can go to download mode. but it won't respond to volume button, and resets after 4 seconds.
i have a custom ram on it.
if i place a battery back in, it will power on and keeps resetting every 4 second.
what should i do?
Maybe your power button stuck in? But if you can enter download mode then not I guess. You can always flash original firmware if you haven't necessary data on it.

Ok sorry my friend, read that you can use download mode well. I think there is something with your power button. Did you drop your phone? It shouldn't reset every time in every state, that looks like hardware failure. You can easly open your phone with little screwdrivers, but you will lose your warranty. If your power button is broken you can always order new ones from China, I did it with $1,3 (power and volume).

TNX mate.
if i may say something, the button isn't stuck.. it's pretty clicky and sounds like working fine. is it possible the cause is coming from something else?

No it's your power button for sure.
I had that issue with my S3 LTE. It is indeed the power button since it does exactly the same that my did, try to use some alcohol in a swab and pass on the button (let it penetrate the button area, next click several times to try to clean the button from inside).
Good luck.

I have the same problem with my i9505, I always fix it like this:
1) remove the battery
2) let the phone rest w/o the battery for min. 10min
3) put the battery in and try to go in recovery
4) if you can wipe cache and try to turn it on
If the problem happens again:
1) remove battery
2) short the pins like this x/-/x/- , then x/x/-/- and then -/-/x/x (x is the connected pin) with something that conducts electricity like a metalic ring or high resistor or s/t
3) do step 3) from the previous one
(Anyways what you do is that you drain the capacitors in the phone, and on the power button, that capacitor is the main problem)
If that doesn't help, then try to leave it w/o the battery overnight
EDIT: well that is not a permanent fix, the fix is probably that you need a new power button, or in the worst case a new phone

[stuck]help needed asap

I ran into a situation where I got my phone reset and it got into a bootloop. No probs I thought but I realized the long press power button doesn't work and I'm LITERALLY STUCK in bootloop. Phone is hot like hell.Need some tips ASAP.
Little bit of history:
Running alexis 3.0 rom with nx kernel, xposed with xposed edge, bixby remapped
Went down to 0 charge, put my phone to charge and turned it on
Buttons just wasn't working,neither power/volumes/bixby.Nothing
I rebooted to recovery with app, power button worked there so I supposed no big probs
The stupid idea came to format data, cache in twrp and check if the buttons work after that
That's when it got stuck and now I'm sitting here desperately trying to do something but power button just not working, phone's hot, trying to cool it off
The battery went up for 4% so my last ultimate hope is to discharge in the near future, hopefully asap

I have had this issue on my s8 where it got stuck in bootloop/samsung logo and holdimg the power button did nothing.
Holding the power button and volume down button for a few seconds or until it reboots seems to force reboot on my phone . From there you can let it start normally or go into recovery/download mode.
Hopefully this might work on your phone.

Thanks mate! I've just figured it out yesterday and phone is good now. Seems like the three-button combination is the always-working hard reboot.
