[Guide][Mod]Update rooted Moto E XT1022 to KitKat 4.4.4 - Moto E General

It's a known fact that the rooted Moto E (XT1022) can not be updated via the OTA update. Its my first time here and I'm proud to present my modded Moto E update. I'm not responsible for anything that goes wrong (it worked perfectly well for me). I've just modified the update script and packaged it back. You must have a custom recovery. Just copy the zip and install it. That's it. Why relock the boot loader and flash firmware again?
Download it here ---docs(dot)google(dot)com/file/d/0B0r12bko9SIaYzVFYmptaldlTkk/edit?usp=docslist_api

So will it work on modified system too.?
Or does it still need system to be just as stock.?

Read the op carefully. It needs to have a custom recovery.

I meant the system files.
If you modify say even de-odex a system app, the OTA usually don't work, no matter if you use stock or custom recovery cause it patches the system files.
So my question was, will this work in such case.?
Tapatalk with RAZR HD

I've removed the initial asserts and the apply_patch_check for debuggerd. If you change other system files, remove the apply_patch_check for the., @neo.ank

Be happy - according to the thread above you it looks like this is a response to the Apple lawsuit and strips out the internal search functionality (general search now only returns web results, not internal results such as contacts, apps etc.)

Are you trying to update with a custom recovery?
I have blue recovery...I havent installed a custom one..just root.
So if it is the search functionality, then no bigs! I thought maybe it was some bug fixes.

Blue is custom recovery. You will need to restore the stock recovery to process this update. You should be grateful you have a custom recovery...for now anyways. Check out this post for detailed info about the OTA

P.S. It fails when I attempt to update as well

How to run Sky Go on rooted S3

This is not my patch it was member UpInTheAir
but download:
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/19780267/SU-BusyBox-CWM_Manager-Uninstaller.zip
Flash the zip then delete the superuser apk..
Sky Go then works. To get root back just install superuser and busy box, root access back.
Only takes 2 minutes.
If this helps you please click thanks, going to watch Germany GP now

2mins you need practice 45secs, works great and recover root, also works. Well done briandevlin.
Going to watch F1 as well, red bull or who do you think will win? :thumbup:

uninstalled superuser, rom manager, and root explorer.
booted into cwm using the volume key, menu button, and power button.
it appeared to flash/install properly, with no errors as well.
Did you use a different method to flash as it says removing cwm, and i'm guessing it can't remove it if it's in use.
I flashed the zip on reboot un installed su, sorry I just tried again to see your problem, no the problem was me, and just install su from market and busy box to get back root. Sorry when I'm home I'll change the instructions.
Edit: no need to remove any apps.

have the latest version. uninstalled it, ran the script and reinstalled just to make sure.
Could it be because I've updated via Odin?
I still get the not supported on rooted android device. everything else that uses root tells me my device isn't rooted!

There must still be something that it detects, not sure what. If your bbox and superuser are deleted there is no root access so I don't know what it's picking up
Edit: Nothing to do with Odin.

Hi Brian,
Good to see you're finding an alternative good use for the script. :good:
Just a quick explanation;
The script will only remove those files that are saved in system/ app & system/ xbin folders because of the original need to be able to remove evidence of those files whilst returning to stock (for warranty) via nandroid backup (where firmware wasn't yet avaiable). I could have written the script to remove files from data/ app, but they could be removed via traditional method or factory reset.
All (I know of) custom ROMs will have installed superuser to system, but if you download from the market, obviously the script won't remove it, as it's now installed to data rather than system folder
Code:
set_progress(1.000000);
ui_print("Removing SU, BusyBox & CWM Manager...");
mount("ext4", "EMMC", "/dev/block/mmcblk0p9", "/system");
delete("system/app/CWMManager.apk");
delete("system/app/CWMManager-SGS3-v3.50.apk");
delete("system/app/CWMManager-SGS3-v3.55.apk");
delete("system/app/CWMManager-SGS3-v3.60.apk");
delete("system/app/Superuser.apk");
delete("system/xbin/su");
delete("system/xbin/busybox");
unmount("/system");
ui_print(" ");
ui_print("Done!");
ui_print(" ");
Cheers

Hi Guys,
Not working for me. I originally installed Omega ROM using Samsung GS3 Toolkit. I then installed SuperUser from the market. Switched my super user app from SuperSU to SuperUser using the settings within SuperSU. Uninstalled SuperUser. Flashed the zip in CWM. Root checked says I dont have propper route access. My apps which require root do not get the root access they require but when I attempt to watch content on Sky Go, I get the following message: 'Sky Go is not supported on rooted Android devices.'
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
Dan
Found the problem, it was the method of root I was using. I was previously rooted via the SGS toolkit method and files in the root folder. did a complete reset/flash etc and re-rooted via cf root.
but after all that I haven't got any apps on my phone that require rooting :S

Telstra JB Update (NEEDs STOCK RECOVERY)

Hey guys so heres the good thing we now have official aussie JB Release from Telstra.
Things you should know though is if you have TWRP or CWM as your recovery you will not be able to update at this point.
1.) If someone has a copy of the stock Telstra 4.0.4 ICS Recovery could you please attach to this thread (I was stupid enough not to keep a backup of my backup) Myself and im sure some others would much appreciate
or
2.) If theres way someone could do a full dump of the WHOLE rom (boot,recovery,system,fsg,modem,cdrom) so that I and others could just flash our phones that way
I have PM'd Apacheo to see if he has a copy fingers crossed
I hope this ends up being a very helpful thread lol.
+1
I'm in the same boat, would really appreciate if someone has a copy of the stock recovery.
used to be a link to it in the ics fastboot image thread but it's dead now.
thanks in advance
I took a dump of the stock telstra ICS using p3droids app. Surely someone else on here has updated and could do the same with the JB version?
Come on guys help those who help others.

now that you mentioned that, I've just tried that fastboot image (just to have a complete ics base for OTA), everything goes well, after reboot it hangs at the pulsating motorola logo (previously running the verizon jb by "firmware team" on my unlocked M)
I even tried p3droids app to dump my current setup then tried flashing it back...same thing, stuck
sorry Cuzzo for hijacking your thread

[Q] Recent OTA update

I am rooted with TWRP and flashed the G-Flex mod for the dual window. Stock Verizon.
I currently love my phone setup right now and don't want to have to return to stock, so I have a few questions about this OTA:
1. What is in the OTA, and is it worth taking?
2. Is there a way I can completely ignore the OTA and get it to stop reminding me?
3. If I do decide to take the OTA, will OTA rootkeeper allow me to OTA update and stay rooted?
4. If I do decided to reset my phone to stock, I should follow this guide right? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432476
Thanks for the help.

Rayglobe 3.2 also have dual window.
I wouldn't take the OTA since you have custom recovery (TWRP). I'll let someone with more knowledge chime in but don't take it.
Theres a certain apk you freeze in order to stop it from loading the OTA reminder but it depends on your phone. Some carriers are different.

thanks, I'll try to find the apk to freeze. I won't take it, but it seems like it keeps popping up saying its going to do it at a scheduled time, and I'm just hoping it won't do it overnight when I can't stop it.
Is the process for removing root or TWRP much harder than the process for setting it up? If its not too much trouble I can go back to stock for the update and reflash all my mods, etc.

Republic Wireless Soak Tests 4.4.4 - I have the update!

So I got chosen for the 1000 user soak test. Sadly I seem to be unable to take it. I have an unlocked bootloader an am rooted. I tried to remove Xposed Framework and unroot, but with no success.
When I revert back to a clean 4.4.2, I loose the soak test it seems. I have captured the update file though. You guys can dig through it.
I also tried to use the fastboot command "update (filename)" but got some errors. You guys let me know what you think.

Thanks friend, I've been waiting for someone to capture the OTA. Have you attempted to revert to clean 4.4.2 using the sbf yet? I am going to try just that. I've never put together a flahable update .zip but I'll attempt to make a rooted update out of this if I'm successful (unless someone beats me to it).

4.4.4 Downgrade?
Hello folks,
This is my first time here on the forums. So I could be asking some pretty noob questions. However about 2 months ago RW sent me a moto x 2013 for my hard efforts as a salesman. And being only 17 years old with a free phone was amazing. So I had 4.4.3 since its been here. And I by mistake updated today to 4.4.4. And now my root is lost and my phone is sloe as can be. And my girlfriend already hates how long it takes to send a text. Any help for a brother to downgrade to 4.4.3 or 4.4.2? Or at least a stable root for 4.4.4 for the time being as I wait for the s6 edge to come out. Thanks in advanced mates!
Is there a way to get the whole image?

As far as I'm aware, he isn't around anymore (glad I got to him when I did), so the only means of unlocking the RW Moto X's bootloader is to somehow find one that was never updated to 4.4.4 and use Sunshine
