[Q] Will ALL radio bands work when switching my VZW Galaxy S4 to T-Mobile? - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
I've spent 2 hours searching, but I can't find any clear or up-to-date information. I have a Verizon Wireless Galaxy S4 (SCH-I545 running VRUFNC5), and I will be switching from Verizon to T-Mobile. I've read that the VZW Galaxy S4 does not have the AWS 1700 band enabled, but then I've read that recent updates have enabled it. So, I'm confused.
Will my phone be able to access ALL T-Mobile bands (3G, 4G, 4G LTE, etc) to fully access T-Mobile's network?
If not, what bands will I be missing? Am I able to flash the radio or modify any settings to activate any particular bands?
Thanks everyone!
Randy

The answer to your fist question "Will my phone be able to access ALL T-Mobile bands (3G, 4G, 4G LTE, etc) to fully access T-Mobile's network?":
From a quick glance no, you can see witch version supports what band here:

Confirmation of G2's 3G frequency band

Hey all.. I just got my unlocked G2 to work on my local carrier's 3G. Im from the Philippines which only supports Band I (2100) UMTS. Turned out that my old sim wasn't 3G ready/activated and I wasnt able to connect to the 3G network before. Bought a newer sim, inputted the right APN settings and I was good to go. Now I can browse and access the internet/market on my phone wherever I go.
The G2 is indeed an international device. Thanks for all the help.

[Q] T-Mobile 3G <-> Telcel Mx

Hello everyone, im from mexico, i just bought a DVP from T-Mobile, i think is unlocked cause when inserted my sim card from "Telcel" i can make calls, send/receive sms, etc, always have "E" letter besides signal metter, however i would like to use "3G" network, as i found on this forum seems to "E" means edge, and T-mobile is not compatible with telcel 3g, is this correct? just want to confirm this and i want to know if ATT version is compatible to 3G from telcel, thanks in advance, BR
As far as I know Telcel uses the 850 band for 3G. The T-Mobile version uses 900/1700/2100 and hence wont support the Telcel 3G. The ATT version has the 850/900/2100 band and hence theoretically should support the Telcel 3G. It is advisable that you confirm with someone in your area if the ATT version works, because as per specifications it should work. The TMobile wont work as it does not support the 850 band
Thank you
Thanks, very clear and direct, also quick answer, so if i understand correctly its kinda hardware diference, right? so no way to convert or configure an aws to pcs or backwards.. thank you!

It's not possible, at least on phones. Each specific submodel likely has different amps for whatever bands that submodel supports. They're (very likely) physically different.

[Q] SKT e300s on US AT&T LTE?

I have been trying many many many times to get my S4 LTE-A to work on the AT&T Network. I used the device on the SKT network, and had no problem getting LTE-A service. I have been using the BYOD Go Phone plan by AT&T for service while I am staying in the United States. I am able to obtain 3G, and "AT&T 4G" (HSPA+). I have verified that I have the correct APN settings, and my account is provisioned as a LTE Device. AT&T has verified my IMEI number as well. I have even fooled around with the SKT Hidden Menu, but I still cannot get LTE service. I saw someone post a tweet about getting LTE on AT&T, using the B17 LTE band, but for some reason, that one is not accessible on my device on the SKT Hidden Menu. Can anyone help me out? How can I get LTE service on my device? I was told many times that the device should get LTE, but no one at AT&T has any idea why I am not getting LTE. (I am in an area of LTE coverage. )
Thank you so much for your help!

Flashing AT&T ROM to another carrier

I was wondering if anyone has successfully flashed an AT&T rom to another carriers device, specifically a Verizon galaxy s4. I was told to try it but I wanted to know if it's been done before.
Is the bootloader on your s4 unlocked?

No it is not.
That's good. However, flashing an i337 ROM onto your phone may result in a hard brick. I don't know about the partition layouts on i337 vs version s4.
With an s3, cross-flashing custom ROMs from an international s3 to a North American s3 will hard brick the North American s3.

I think mine is an international version. How would confirm if it is or not?
Is the Verizon s4 a cdma phone with an 3g/LTE sim slot? Flashing an AT&T ROM to your phone may disable phone calls and data as the AT&T ROM requires a specific bootloader and radio frequencies to work. It could also hard brick the phone.
If I were in your position, I would find out how to flash a custom ROM before attempting to flash the AT&T ROM.
Any particular reason you want/need the AT&T ROM?

My phone has CDMA and GSM network settings. I am using this phone on AT&T because I cannot afford to buy a new one right now. Everything works except sending sms on a LTE signal. Fails every time. If I switch to HSPA+ I can send sms but being on this signal causes my battery to drain really quickly for some reason. So I'm trying to sms to work properly on a LTE signal. Someone suggested I try flashing a AT&T rom to my phone since it would most likely have the correct sms files which he believes is why sms doesn't work properly while on a LTE signal.
I understand. Are the APN settings the same for 3g and LTE?

Yes they are
I did a quick search and found this:
Does your mobile web work? mms uses mobile data and standard text messages do not. I have had mobile data take up to 2 days to work on a new activation you stated you took the apn settings off the att site but I just thought I would post what is on my phone just in case it may be different
Name: ATTPhone
apn: Phone
mmsc:http://mmsc.mobile.att.net
Multimedia message proxy: proxy.mobile.att.net
Multimedia message Port: 80
mcc:310
mnc:410
apn type: default:mms:hipri
both standard and roaming protacols are ipv4
everything else is not set also try turning mobile data off then back on.
also make sure that the phone is in global mode

Yeah everything works except send sms. I can receive sms all day but it fails to send. I can send and receive mms, make and receive calls and browse the web. It's just send a standard text message fails every time. Those are the same APN settings I have currently. And it's not a new activation. I've been trying to figure out a solution to this for about a month.
international version has better roms than any other carrier ....... am using an s4 att version with international carhdrom 4.4.2

The reason it isn't working on LTE is because the Verizon S4 only supports 2 LTE bands and does not have all the LTE bands needed for the AT&T network. There is no way for you to use the LTE network fully and get SMS to work. This is a hardware limitation.
US GSM (AT&T - Model: SGH-I337):
GSM/EDGE: 850/900/1900/1800 MHz
UMTS/HSPA+: 850/1900/2100 MHz
LTE: 700/850/1700/2100/2600 MHz
US CDMA (Verizon - Model: SCH-I545)
CDMA EV-DO Rev. A and Rev. B: 800/1900 MHz
GSM/EDGE: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
UMTS/HSPA+: 850/900/1900/2100
LTE: 700/1700 MHz (Bands 4, 13)
I have not personally needed to do this, but you can modify your "SMSC" preferred network type from "LTE/GSM" to "GSM Auto" which should route all your SMS messages through HSPA+ instead of LTE. Therefore, you can use your phone on LTE (calls/data) like normal but the SMS will be HSPA+.
Root device if you arent.
Install Advanced Signal Status
Hit "Additional Info" in the app and then "Phone information".
Change dropdown for "Set preferred network type:" to "GSM Auto".
You can hit "Refresh" button and it should show "+13123149810" for AT&T otherwise change it to that for AT&T.
Restart phone.
Hopefully that works!

Actually I can activate all the LTE bands through one of the hidden menus. But when I do it still doesn't work.

That is because the Verizon S4 itself, hardware wise, does not support all the bands AT&T uses (like band 17). There is nothing you can do to make your phone work on network frequencies that your device doesn't support, no software can change that.
Sorry.

Enabling LTE bands 1,3,7 and 20 on H910

Hi!
I get new unlocked H910, but I am not able to connect to LTE bands 1,3,7 and 20 in Europe. I use Czech SIM. The phone finds the network, but does not connect. I found out, that these bands are listed in the H910 specs. like roaming bands. Is it possible to enable it somehow to work for me?
Thanks

If you are rooted my answer is similar the my answer here only now the settings you want are in the band.selection area.

Unfortunatelly, I am not rooted.
I find out, that root could disable the FM radio - is it truth? That was one of reasons why to buy V20 (together with infraport).
Thanks again
