This forum is specifically for the 2014 version (so 2nd gen) of the Moto G.
Unfortunately, it seems that the picture in the first post is a bit confusing, since it's indeed a pic of the 1st gen ...
Might be a good idea to change that.
I have taken a look around the web, but can't directly find a comparable banner for the 2nd gen that doesn't also include a "buy now" link or a watermark .. this is the best I've been able to find:

Hello Everyone
I Don't want to bother anyone here...But I purchased My New Moto G 2014 edition A Month Ago...
I am Not a developer or anything...just a noob in operating android..Don't know how to root or anything...just impressed by these things that by rooting your phone can be done.
So can i question here about my queries :
1. Is it safe to Root My phone? As i read somewhere that i shouldn't root my phone it will cause my warranty of the phone to end.
2. if it is safe, can I have a proper guide to root my phone from a noob's point of view. With pictures and a bit of text will be very good.
3. A bit more guide on how to have lollipop on my phone after rooting my phone.
4. I also wanted to know about CyanogenMod what is this.
I had operated an iphone 3gs Unlocked with cydia in it.

Dont root your phone till you get an official lollipop update because then you will need to unroot it back to install lollipop. It will be rolled out very soon.

all are made in China mate. It doesnt matter whether its made in US or China. If there's any problem, we have XDA or just blame it on Moto.

Yes, it may. Any such changes made can affect OTA. Keep it real and original till you get lollipop update. Expect it on any December date.

Reserved!

Is the logo.bin in system? So flashing just the system will put everything back ready for OTA?
Also, I've tried flashing recovery but never got it to work. Will I need to flash stock recovery as well, or does it revert back to stock after a reboot?

I'd like to suggest using a more specific title than Moto G (2014) if you mean 2nd gen. 2014 can be interpretted as developments in 2014. I bought my phone in Aug 2014, but I'm told it's 1st gen. Now I will try and find the forum for my phone (it's not this one).

Hey, I was wondering if anyone in the Netherlands has received the 5.0 update already. I have the XT1068 and I still haven't received the update.

no logo.bin is not in system and should not stop OTA even if you modify it to fix the bootloader message
as far as im aware all you need to get matching boot.img , /system folder and recovery.img , but these need to be correct version for the OTA update you received (either in zip or OTA)
for example the currently 'leaked' OTA for 5.0.2 xt1068 from india will only update if is finds dsds retall ALL version .23
it will not install over .14 or .27 versions.

i think its time for the OP to update this. so many freshy news and this is what? abandoned?

Motorola is rolling this out to select users. There is no NDA involved.
Well,i`ll admit i`m in the trial (tho won`t comment on it) and one of the steps to getting it involved agreeing to a NDA. If it was just a "all agreeing" one or something specific to this update alone i`m not sure.

Did anyone receive this update for en.uk firmware?
Just received this update for Moto G 4G - en.EU
Have just received this for the en.GB retgb version! (Sunday 21st September). Could this late delivery be related to using ART?
Installed no problem on the rooted device. After installing, all apps were updated. Took less than 10 minutes from start to finish.
Did you capture the ota file?

Dam you smoke pot you beat me to it. Was just uploading the OTA update to mega and made a post Will now go and get that thread of mine closed.
Just updated myself will come back with any improvements BTW just to the gpt.bin and fsg.mbn being touch it makes the Stock firmware before it useless will there be a new version of the Full firmware for us that wish to return to stock.
Edit: This is a first the OTA didn't take out my root, although i did need to uninstall xposed before updating.

I'm a complete technical newbie, so I apologise for what might be stupid questions. I used to own a HTC Desire which had to be rooted to make it suit my requirements, and now I have a rooted Moto G LTE (4.4.4, 21.1.46 from Tesco) which I've had to root to suit most of my requirements.
I'd like to install this update to (maybe) fix the SD card issue. I have "CWM recovery" installed which seems to break the installation of this update. I get a 'install zip' question in the recovery, I swipe yes and then swipe to install root again. At this point the phone boots normally, and immediately after boot it reboots into the CWM recovery screen again (and over). I rebooted into CWM recovery and paniced when I realised that the SD Card isn't there with my backup and so I wiped the cache. This fixed the reboot problem, but I'd still like to update, but don't want to risk breaking my phone.
Can I use the zip 2 posts above me to update to the latest version? Will that be compatible with a Tesco version phone?
How do I create a backup that is located somewhere the phone can see in CWM recovery mode?
Apologies again if this is a silly question, stupid question or anything else. I'm not technically minded, but I'm forced into these corners to make my phone work how I'd like it to.
Thanks!

[FIX][BOOT][LOGO][titan] Remove Unlocked Bootloader Warning

Remove Unlocked Bootloader Warning - Moto G (2nd Gen)
Device Logo: Moto G (2nd Gen) "titan" - (Stock from XT1069)
Same as stock logo, from original firmware, Lollipop 5.0.2.
For those who have unlocked the bootloader from their Moto G (2nd Gen), and want to remove that awkward warning.
This is not the same as fix logo provided by MotoTools. This logo is extracted from Moto G (2nd Gen) stock firmware.

Instructions:
1. Download .bin file from link provided below.
2. Put in same folder as mfastboot files. (Download mfastboot from here.)
2. Flash logo.bin with fastboot.
Code:
mfastboot.exe flash logo logo.bin

im guessing there is no way of getting rid of the "warning unlock bootloader" sign? before i relocked my bootloader i flashed the remove unlock bootloader warning.zip file and it worked, but after i relocked my bootloader the warning sign popped up again..
Try with Moto Tool AIO V3 (under Tools choose Fix boot logo)
Because, when you relocked, you probably flashed stock logo again... Try reflashing the custom logo.
I have updated the phone, now the bootloader warning is red.... can I install this fix?

@rafaelbrunner Did you tweak the bootlogo or did you simply extract the original non-unlocked bootlogo? If you tweaked the files yourself, what about doing a darker version? Rebooting in the night is a pain.

I only removed the Unlocked Warning from the default logo.
In fact, you can use any logo you want...
Below, I made you the M boot logo with a black background... Give it a try:

Thanks! I'd love to try it, but unfortunately the website keeps trying to download an .exe file.
Not that I'm concerned, that virus won't run on my Linux machine anyways. But could you upload the file somewhere else, like MEGA or Google Drive?
---------- Post added at 04:11 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:06 PM ----------
Edit: Managed to download the file now, nevertheless I'd recommend using a better file hoster next time. We don't want to spread malware on XDA, do we?
Edit: Thanks, nice boot logo! There's a small red border around the M, do you think you can fix that?
Also, include the logo into your OP, I am sure many people would prefer a dark one over a white one.
Glad I found this thread. Worked perfectly on XT1063 after Lollipop 22.21.16 upgrade!

I guess you are not an Motorola official right, or in any case related to Motorola, to bring us fixes or tell them what´s not working and so on ?
If every country get its OTA and you make for every OTA an own thread... how pointless is that ?
No offense but this section is for custom ROM development mainly and not just for simple firmware updates without active support, IMO ^=^

It's better than talking about this in CM12 thread like they were. I find that extremely disrespectful. You get somebody willing to put that much work into our device and then people like this were posting in his thread with instructions on stock 5.1, which will be crap regardless. You can upgrade a turd all you want, it will still be a stock turd.

I got the same update notification and installed it. Motorola support has NO CLUE what this update is about. What is it?
I just got the notification too. I'm running a Chilean provider (Movistar) ROM, but the update just says 'en.CL'. I unlocked my bootloader a long time ago though via Motorola code IIRC, and to tell the truth I don't remember what precautions to take when receiving an OTA.

Did you lose root after updating? Did you have to 'put bloatware back in' like the sticky says?
No my phone was not rooted
Anyway if bootloader was unlocked so you also can easily downgrade your moto x with 21.7 firmware
But be carefully
Backup your data first
I don't backup any data even contacts and update it [emoji2] and i m lucky

I don't follow... How is it that your bootloader is unlocked, but you are unable to root?
You can still flash a system app and root that way, correct?
I am updating from 222.26.7.ghost_att.ATT.en.US and the zip includes several system library updates and a new modem firmware.
I have an unlocked bootloader and a rooted phone, so to install:
* Boot to recovery (TWRP) and make a backup copy of update zip (/cache/Blur_Version.222.26.7.ghost_att.ATT.en.US.zip) at /sdcard (aka /data/media/0).
* Flash system and recovery to stock firmware in bootloader
* Install the update using stock recovery
* Reflash TWRP and reinstall SuperSU and Xposed

Shabby means his phone was not rooted prior to applying the update, not he lost root or was unable to root.
I would happily take it if it means better battery life root is useless in its current state.
Just got the update notification on the XT1060.
I'm trying to learn how to root this thing, as I've never done so on an Android device. Should I hold off on updating this until after I've rooted?
My brother's wife got this update and now her phone is not connecting to their wifi network, even after several resets and different configurations.
Hopefully the old root methods will be adapted to this update.
Please chime in if you have a similar problem or a solution.

Definitely consider rooting/unlocking your bootloader as an alternative to official releases. You just have so many more options once you've made custom roms available to yourself.
Installed in on my dev edition and haven't noticed any difference.. Probably not a significant update.

Did you use this OTA on a rooted device? If so, did it impact your root?

The device is not rooted.
Does anybody have the stock zip for this update or know where they're usually located? I've been researching the method CrashXXL used to add root/Xposed/remove bloat, but then Moto dropped this update and I have to start from scratch.

@iscaela posted the instructions to get update.zip file in the first page read but for this you need rooted phone
Don't Ever update your rooted moto X to the latest firmware via OTA specially verizon xt1060
My friend update a rooted xt1060 via OTA to the latest firmware and now his phone doesn't booted anymore Stuck on fastboot with an error of system failure
Now no firmware available right also fail to downgrade waiting for new update firmware

You also need an unlocked bootloader, which I don't have.

Soft-Bricked Prime Exclusive XT1625

Hi guys, i just received my new prime exclusive moto g 4th, once i turned on my devices an update appears so i installed it (OTA), i remember there was something in the name like MPJ24.139-64, once it finished updating i wanted to remove the ads following this tutorial MOTO G 4th Gen How to Remove the Amazon Lock Screen Ads and Bloat Ware . i did it all exactly as it is on the post. now my device can't start and i am not able to install the stock firmware cause all the stock rom versions available are actually lower that the installed on my phone and i think i can't downgrade because of the locked bootloader and it seems to be unlockable .
also it says on the recovery mode the next legancy: WE HAVE DETECTED AN ATTEMPT TO FLASH UNAUTHORIZED SW ON YOUR DEVICE. CONTACT CUSTOMER SERVICE FOR ASSISTANCE.

I think flashing S/W posted on Motorola site should bring your phone back to life.
See the thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=68502532&postcount=381 for the link to the same.

I would still give it a try as there is nothing to loose.
Or contact Motorola customer care to see what they say.

Please read the thread in http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4/how-to/update-9-1-16-t3453726
It looks like somehow the firmware for the Indian XT1624 was put on your device. As far as I know, no one has been able to install XT1625 firmware on their device after installing the firmware for the XT1624.

After a little research, it does appear that an OTA was released for the AMZ XT1625. Sorry, I can't think of anything else that hasn't already been suggested.
It seems Moto has changed their site and updated the s/w it now shows XT1625.
I am currently downloading from motorola right now. I am also making a backup like normal. I will let you know if it works for the XT1625 as mine is retail US.
OK I downloaded and flashed it. While it came to the July 1 security update build still said -49. There was no Amazon ad crap and I got a system UI fc and retail something fc. Beyond that it was working just fine after about 5 mins.
the problem is that on mine phone the bootloader is unlockable

yes i have

Have you tried unlocking the bootloader? I know you have an Amazon model but it doesn't hurt to try.

yes i have tried and it says that my device is no eligible for bootloader unlocking

Mine is booting up now, so far the same results as you. Although, I couldn't relock the bootloader. Could you?
EDIT: Trying a factory reset to see if those FCs get fixed....
EDIT2: They don't get fixed with a factory reset. Restarting it FCs File Manager. Restarting a 3rd time, it's fine. Weird

Looks like QuadRooter got fixed. Used the CheckPoint scanner to check. I'll take a security update even without updating the build number lol

I never tried to relock the bootloader. I still have a few more things to test before I will truly be happy lol.

Well it turns out you can't downgrade after flashing this. I tried flashing the previous firmware and got an error. I went ahead and nuked it all and put a build of CM13 on. Bonus for me is that I got received calls to work for once. So I'm fairly happy bow.

I restored my backup. I didn't try to downgrade. I will try that tomorrow.
I reflashed the moto firmware from moto website. Tried to downgrade and got an error myself. However I did have the factory -48 firmware. I don't remember where I got it from so sorry I cannot link it. I was able to flash twrp and wiped all data then flashed -48. I instantly received software update after I finished the normal setup. It updated to build number MPJ24.139-64. As soon as everything finishes reinstalling on my XT1625 I will post a screenshot.
Okay I found it again. Hope this will help out. Also this is only for Retail US. I do not think that it will work for AMZ
Firmware That I flashed. http://www.filefactory.com/file/3t2...PJ24.139-48_cid50_subsidy-DEFAULT_CFC.xml.zip
im in the same situation with a soft bricked, bootloder locked, amazon g4. and i would like to try to update with a zip file of the update if there is one to be found somewhere.
